AbstractIn this study, we focus on a specific form of metacommunication found in an emerging digital genre: Hotel reviews posted on TripAdvisor. In particular, we investigate how tourists represent their service encounter interactions. The main goal of the present study is to identify what these digital metacommunicative practices reveal about communicative norms and expectations among groups of reviewers writing in three different languages. We analyzed a multilingual dataset of 1800 reviews written in English, Dutch, and Italian. The results reveal that reviewers commented upon a broad range

Abstract:
The paper deals with Italian helping verbs (modal, aspectual, causative verbs) and light verbs which form complex predicates and with the rules that guide its use in Italian descriptive grammars published in Italy between 1953 and 2005. The author shows that those forms in both – traditional and contemporary Italian descriptive grammars are treated at the level of word classes whereas it could be more appropriate to discuss them as clause elements as they form complex predicates. In our opinion this way of describing such verbs is due to the tradition in Italy to focus on a form and not on fun

The paper explores the professional practice of “cultural mediation” in the Italian context. This activity is taken here as a vantage point from which the dynamics of identity projections can be observed, as they emerge from a real-life interaction. The analysis is carried out on a recorded and transcribed encounter involving three participants: a service provider working for a Foreigners Advice Bureau run by the municipal authorities of a major Italian city; a French-speaking asylum seeker from Cameroon; and a Moroccan mediator. The encounter is characterised by a high degree of interactional

Interaction with local speakers of a second language (L2) in a naturalistic setting during study abroad is beneficial to language learning in many respects; particularly in the development of pragmatic competence, or the awareness and ability to use the appropriate language for a specific social context (Kinginger, 2011; Magnan & Back, 2007; Schauer, 2009; Shively, 2011). Abstract:
The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) allowed to adopt that new of 'functioning', which refers to bodily structures and functions, activity and participation and interaction between these and personal and environmental factors. The model is increasingly becoming the reference for the planning/organization of inclusive interventions, in Europe and in the Italian schools: it has been one of the main topics (l. 107/2015) in the last three-year Italian teacher training plan. The work presents procedures the early results of three professionaltraining courses evaluation (2017-2019). The courses involved 73in-service teachers and aimed to enhance the design skills of Individualized Education Plan (IEP) on ICF model. According to the Kirkpatrick Model, the evaluation has been conducted on the teachers’ ‘learnings’ and ‘transfer’ detected through pre-post test and a document analysis of the IEP. The study highlighted few linguistic and semantic difficulties and a better teachers’ sensitivity to the environmental component of the functioning. It offers some useful hints for the construction of a possible trans-national platform (as sharing of practices, data-base)about the training of school teachers on ICF bio-psychosocial model, as well as arguments regarding the tools for verifying the effectiveness of teachers training interventions.

Abstract:
The most recent data available from the Ministry of University and Research (2017) confirm that in Italy, students of foreign origin who have reached the age of secondary school still prefer to enrol in technical and professional institutes rather than in high schools. The same data also reveal how their school performance tends to be on average lower than that of their peers not of foreign origin, especially in scientific or technical subjects. Very often, the causes of this are to be found in a not yet adequate level of CALP. In this paper we illustrate a project (Po.Li.S.: Potenziamento Lingua dello Studio), the purpose of which was to improve the CALP of these students and in so doing their overall school results and motivation to study.

Abstract:
Belgium, like Italy, is often considered a text book example of partitocracy. The dominance of political parties involves many functions and dysfunctions in a polity that is highly fragmented along linguistic and ideological lines. Political parties not only assert their institutional position as gate keepers to what demands and interests are aggregated for legislative and executive politics. They also play a dominant role in the policy-making process, by framing problems, ideologically promoting solutions, and negotiating compromises in the cumbersome formation and continuation of coalition government. Like other actors who play a role in the policy-making process, political party organisations too are faced with the increasing complexity of problems, and with the demand to back up their proposals with expert-based argumentation. In Belgium, each party organisation comprises a study service. Although their origin and history has been documented in general party organisation studies, this chapter is the first contribution to understanding the way these intra-party study units are organized and how they generate policy relevant advice. Findings concern all major political parties, across the language border.
