Abstract:
Certain conflicts between offenders over their illicit activities end in the murder of one of the protagonists. These homicides are refered to as settling of accounts. This article examines why and under what circumstances offenders choose to solve their differences by a settling of accounts. Three categories of conflicts between offenders were identified. The 444 cases of settling of accounts ending with 531 victims that occured in Quebec from 1970 to 1986 were analyzed within those categories. The findings indicate that these homicides occured in cases where the stakes were very high. This s

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a powerful engineering tool that has different applications in the Petroleum Industry. In recent years, CFD has been used to analyze the complex 3D multiphase flow inside production separators. Due to changing reservoir conditions oil companies replace old internals with upgraded ones. In this study, a numerical simulation of the turbulent multiphase flow using the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) is used to assess the effects of the oil droplet size distribution on the oil carry-over in a production separator. Input shaping techniques have been proposed to reduce the vibration in the positioning of the manipulators. However, a practical application is not simple as the target requirements becomes more precise, because the number of mechanical resonances that need to be taken into account increases, and the robustness against the resonant frequency variations is more critical. The vibrations of the positioning at the final state are easily estimated by the plant transfer function and the jerk waveforms at acceleration, deceleration, and settling. The purpose of this paper is to investigate suspended sediment transport around a marine pipeline near the seabed by solving the Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations with the standard k-ε model. High Reynolds number flow simulations are considered in the present study. The suspended sediments are seeded upstream of the pipeline. Particle trajectories of the suspended sediments downstream of the pipeline have been visualized by using a Lagrangian approach. A MEMS actuator and its controller are jointly optimized, both sequentially and simultaneously. The sequential problem is formulated to account for controllability by means of a constraint on the actuator’s natural frequency. By varying the frequency constraint, sequential optimization generates a set of designs with significantly increased displacement, compared to the original non-optimized design, and with various settling times. In simultaneous optimization, a non-linearly weighted objective function combines the two objectives, and the relative weights are varied. The tradeoff between the

The annuli between two casings can be closed or open to formation. After completion, the temperature of the annular fluids will be close to the formation temperature. This is because it will take some time for the well to begin to exchange heat with the produced fluids from the reservoir. If the well is located in deep water, the wellhead temperature will be equal to the bottom seawater temperature. At the start of production, warm reservoir fluids will be transported upward to the surface. This will transport heat to the upper part of the well and heat up fluids in the closed annuli. Because
