Abstract Failure of steel materials in sour environments is of great importance in the oil and gas industry. Iron sulfide deposits created from steel corrosion in the presence of H2S complicate the corrosion failure mechanism and the ability to inhibit those mechanisms. Iron sulfide films decrease the general corrosion rate but introduce higher occurrences of pitting corrosion. Most sour failures in the field are due to pitting or underdeposit corrosion which is difficult to monitor and inhibit. Several studies have been conducted describing the bulk behavior of sour corrosion with and without

Abstract SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) is one of the most important processes being used for extracting oil from Alberta’s Oil Sands field. A typical SAGD facility in Alberta has several units that require careful potential corrosion evaluation and materials selection to ensure safety and integrity of the plant for full design life. These are (but not restricted to) well pads, bitumen treatment, deoiling, produced gas and evaporator systems. Many of these units are typical of SAGD and enough data on corrosion rates and materials performance may or may not be available. The major conce

Reverse flow is the source of several unsteady effects that complicate load predictions for high advance ratio rotorcraft. As a way of improving load predictions, an ongoing series of experiments has been aimed at gaining a physical understanding of the unsteady aerodynamics of the reverse flow region. The current work contributes phase-averaged, three-component velocity field measurements collected on a rotor at high advance ratios. Stereoscopic particle image velocitmetry (PIV) was performed on a Mach-scale rotor across three advance ratios (0:6 ≤ μ ≤ 0:8), three radial stations (0:3 ≤ r/R ≤

Degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) is a laser-induced grating technique that shows increasing potential as a diagnostic probe for reactive environments. Traditionally, the development of DFWM as a diagnostic for gaseous systems has focused on using the population-grating (PG) mechanism to measure concentration and temperature. Recently, several authors have observed a thermal-grating (TG) mechanism in gases. This mechanism is similar to that observed for many years in liquids and solids.1 The gas-phase thermal-grating mechanism deserves further study since it can complicate population-grating

Because the operating mode of a machine affects the physical response and hence the diagnostic parameters, real-time information regarding the operating mode is likely to improve the performance of an online fault detection system. Abstract Surface hardening by nitriding is a commonly used heat treatment to enhance tribological characteristics, fatigue, and corrosion resistance of ferrous components. Nitrided white layer is known for its high hardness but also for its brittle nature. It is not uncommon to see white layer chipping or breakaway during metallurgical sample preparation that may complicate the analysis of the ‘true’ white layer characteristics in the microstructure of the nitrided load. Many power conditioning aspects not considered or ignored in low average power pulsed lasers can complicate and degrade performance and operation in higher power systems. With electrical to optical conversion efficiencies of the order of a few percent, to achieve an output of several hundred watts requires many tens of kilowatts input power. In the case of high repetition rate machines, the associated high rms currents accentuate the effect of component equivalent series resistance (I2R) and design of interconnecting conductors. A series of long term polarization tests were performed to investigate efficient use of the 100mV polarization growth/decay for demonstrating CP effectiveness. Several conclusions were drawn. Absolute time limits for measuring polarization growth or decay could not be justified. Simple extrapolation of polarization growth or decay curves also could not be justified; future extrapolation needs to be mechanistically based. The application of CP can change the local environment at a steel surface including creating passivity. Redox reactions in soils complicate analysis of polarization data. For

The author holds that while the symptoms and costs of banking sector problems are widely recognized, the magnitude of the remedial task is often significantly underestimated. Still, around half of community pharmacies in the United States do not maintain buprenorphine in their inventory. Community pharmacists must contend with a convoluted meshwork of state and fe
