Abstract:
Providing the population with consumer goods is one of the state’s main tasks. Therefore, in terms of welfare, development of light industry is a priority. Studying modernization of the light industry in the first half of the 20th century require a regional approach to identify common pattern and peculiarities of territories. The authors draws on previously unpublished archival documents (dating from 1928–40) from the State Archive of the Russian Federation to consider the development of light industry in the Urals during the pre-war five-year plan. The article uses general scientific method and such methods as comparative-historical, system-structural. With their help, it was possible to draw a historically objective picture of the development of light industry in the Urals in 1928–40. The authors focus their attention on the dynamics of production of essential goods in regions and republics of the Urals and identify the most rapidly developing industries. The article reviews the state of material and technical base of the enterprises; the process of reconstruction of the main industries and of equipment renewal. Most factories and plants received new equipment. During the first five-year plans the textile, footwear, and clothing industries were in the lead. However, the rate of production mechanization remained slow. The article introduces into scientific use statistical data on the expansion of light industry enterprises network during the first five-year plan. There were established sewing, saddlery, footwear, textile factories, workshops of individual tailoring. The number of light industry enterprises in the Urals grew from 91 industrial facilities in 1928 to 412 by 1940. The raw material base of light industry of the Urals was insufficient for the growing needs of production. Shortage of raw materials, dependence on numerous suppliers of raw materials, and their territorial remoteness complicated the work of industries, resulting in reduction of the enterprises’ capacity. The results of the study can be used in writing of general works on the development of light industry during the pre-war five-year plans in Russia, and in the Urals in particular.

Abstract:
Working processes in the technological sewing process are performed on machine systems characterized by machine-manual work, where the worker and the machine work simultaneously. Such a work system requires a great deal of responsibility in terms of quality, quantity, and the accurate and timely execution of tasks, which requires the quick and accurate response and extremely good psychomotor and visual skills of workers. This paper presents the process of determining the working method and normal times for the technological operation of runstitching women’s blouse collars, which includes the design of an ergonomically designed workplace, the selection and technical equipment of the universal sewing machine and the determination of the optimal work method and normal times using the Methods-Time Measurement (MTM) system. The research results obtained indicate that the technical equipment of a universal sewing machine has a significant impact on the structure of the technological sewing operation and the working method, i.e. the number of auxiliary manual technological suboperations. Improving technical equipment, i.e. increasing the number of automated functions used on a universal sewing machine, reduces the number of auxiliary manual suboperations, reduces the time required to perform the technological operation and increases work productivity.

Abstract:
In the production of clothing and footwear, machine tools and semi-automatic machines are widely used. Sewing enterprises and factories of art products are partially equipped with single-needle semi-automatic embroidery machines with microprocessor control modules. Their main equipment is non-automated universal lockstitch sewing machines, chain sewing machines, zigzag stitch machines, in which embroiderers manually move the hoop with the workpiece during the embroidery process. One of the promising areas for improving sewing processes and multi-color embroidery is their automation through the use of mechatronic modules in the equipment used and semi-automatic embroidery machines. On equipment with mechatronic modules, the main operations are performed automatically, which reduces their labor intensity and improves the appearance of products due to higher stitching accuracy. The possibility of simultaneous maintenance of several semi-automatic machines by one operator increases labor productivity. A method for designing a mechatronic module for a thread trimming mechanism is proposed, which is based on calculated and experimental recommendations when designing new semi-automatic embroidery machines or upgrading those used in industrial enterprises.

Abstract:
The effects of lack of equipment adjustability on nominal ranges of motion of upper body limbs for industrial sewing operations were studied, with a particular focus on Mexican-American males. Key upper body-segments of an industrial sewing operation were marked and analyzed using cinematography for a random pool of male workers descending from northern Mexico. Experimental results revealed that the worker's posture was affected by the adjustability of the sewing equipment, which was designed for the 5th to the 95th percentile of the US population. The awkward postures in turn affected the mean angular range of motion for the body-segments studied. As a result, there was a significant percentage of the available pool of worker's that may face occupational disorders, in spite of the fact that the equipment is adjustable, albeit from the 5th to the 95th percentile of the US population. These findings are particularly important to companies whose workforce is predominantly from populations that do not fit the US population profile. An adjustability index tool was developed as an equipment purchase/design tool that quantifies the percentage of the available pool of workers at risk of occupational disorders due to improper postures resulting from lack of adjustability. Finally, a cost framework is presented for choosing equipment that minimizes internal and external costs associated with equipment adjustability.

Abstract:
The technology of processing clothing elements is very mobile and changes with the appearance of new materials and equipment. The selected design and technological solutions that ensure the conformity of aesthetic properties and requirements can be satisfied through continuous improvement of sewing production technologies. This study aims to develop an algorithm for choosing the optimal equipment, taking into account the material parameters and the permissible requirements for the technological process of manufacturing sewing products from artificial leather. As a result of the analysis of the range of sewing machines and manufacturing companies, Juki sewing machines were chosen to build a complex matrix of machine equipment. A morphological scheme of the selection process and a mathematical description of the two-dimensional matrix of elements have been developed. That has made it possible to reflect the simultaneous consideration of all process components and their influence on the technological parameters of the machine. The database of the parameters of the equipment selection system was built in the form of matrix elements: a matrix of the type of operations, a matrix of material coatings, a matrix of the base of materials, a matrix of machine assignments, and a matrix of qualifications. Each matrix is a production rule for making a decision at a separate selection stage. The operation matrix was constructed using the TechLab mobile application, which includes 50 processing schemes for artificial leather products. The analysis of the schemes has made it possible to determine the frequency of occurrence of types of seams for processing artificial leather products: 1.01.01 (28.75 %), 2.01.01 (16.75 %), 1.06.02 (11.00 %), 2.02.01 (15.50 %), 5.01.01 (24.25 %), 6.02.01 (3.75 %). The mathematical notation of the algorithm for choosing the optimal machine equipment has made it possible to visualize the structure of the process using a graph. The graph was built using Gephi. Such a notation takes into account the qualification of the worker, the type of technological operation, and the material’s properties, including the material’s thickness, coating, and base.

Abstract Original measuring equipment is presented, together with the systems aimed at investigating process parameters of the operation structure and establishing optimal working methods to evaluate properly real working conditions of the man-machine system in garment engineering and technologies. The measuring equipment consists of the system for measuring and storing data on process parameters and bi-plane system of video recording. The system for measuring and data storage is equipped with four sensors, which measure rotation speed of the main shaft, arm movements in the taking and laying-off zones, as well as the movements of pedal regulator, used to manage and control the overall sewing dynamics, all in a simultaneous and contactless manner. Bi-plane system of video recordings is used to record simultaneously the working movement systems (working methods) at the workplace analysed. The operation of seam sewing on the front part of a ladies’ costume is analysed on a designed workplace, using the above described measuring equipment and system of measuring. The whole cycle of recording the technological operation included 10 consecutive executions, while the operation is performed by an operator of an average level of skill (KPZ = 1,00, coefficient of proficiency). On the basis of process parameter measurements, employing computer processing of the signals from the sensors, graphs are obtained for the technological operation structure, with the duration of individual suboperations indicated, and also showing the changes occurring in the course of sewing caused by pedal regulator movements (which manage and control the overall dynamics of sewing and the function of the processing microcomputer of the sewing machine. Bi-plane video recording system is used to investigate the working method employed, basic movements and optimal logical sets of movements, as well as the cyclograms of the movements, used to define spatial and temporal values. The results obtained are compared with the system of synthetic normal time (MTM) and indicate negligible discrepancies.

Abstract:
Based on the codes of the MTM time measurement method and the GSD predictability time system, the study also gave some codes to build the time standard for assembling the back pocket and the waistband according to the traditional sewing processes (TSP). Then, combined with information about modern sewing equipment and time study, the research came up with several modern sewing processes (MSP) to replace TSP. The research results showed that when processing the back pocket using the back pocket hemming machine and the automatic back pocket setter machine, the ironing stage was eliminated, time-saving up to 73.5% and decreased to 66.66% of the number of operations compared to TSP; using the Kansai waistband sewing machine in combination with the folder saved time up to 65.15%; using the belt loop attaching machine saved time up to 66.7%; using the programming machine (to attach the leather label to Jeans) saved time up to 22.7% compared to TSP.

Abstract:
Furniture (chairs, beds, sideboards and so on) are items needed by every household that potential to be cultivated as a livelihood. Some of the basic materials for making furniture products are available locally (village) and some come from the city. Techniques for making furniture products such as how to make wooden frames, cut furniture cloth or leather, sew furniture fabrics, and the process of assembling and combining them into a furniture product must be owned by furniture workers, in order to open a furniture business. In addition to the technical skills that must be possessed, the required equipment such as tools, sewing machines and so on must also be owned for this furniture business to be successful. Some of the difficulties of Jelbuk furniture entrepreneurs are that they do not have enough skills to sew and do not have a sewing machine. If there is sewing work, it is always given to another party whose existence is 20 km from Jelbuk. This is what makes Jelbuk entrepreneurs less economically empowered. Therefore, the purpose of carrying out this activity is to provide guidance on sewing techniques and procurement of sewing machines as an alternative solution for these furniture entrepreneurs. This activity was carried out in several stages, namely 1) procuring sewing machines that were tailored to the needs of making a furniture product, 2) providing guidance on sewing techniques, and 3) training on techniques for making fashion furniture products according to consumer tastes. Guidance on sewing techniques is given starting from getting to know the sewing machine and its characteristics as well as sewing guidance to make a simple product to the details. The results of the community service activities are enough to help improve the ability of sewing techniques so that all pron products can be done at their own place without having to be given to other parties, so that the completion is faster and more cost efficient. The guidance process is still given for 3 months until it is completely independent. The ability of furniture entrepreneurs increases, the settlement process is faster, the number of consumers increases and will ultimately increase the income of furniture entrepreneurs in Suger Kidul Village, Kec. Abstract:
The paper presents the application of MTM, RAV and ZAK methods in the determination of working methods and time norms for the technological process of sewing. The technological operation of sewing the back sleeve seam on a men’s jacket is used for the study. The paper presents the designed workplace in a real production process. In addition, the appropriate working method and the time norm are determined using the MTM (Method Time Measurement), RAV (determination of sewing time for straight seams) and ZAK (determination of sewing time for curved seams) methods. The aim of the study was to combine the methods for determining different types of time (manual, machine-hand and machine) for performing technological operations and precisely calculate the time norms. For the described methods of determining the production time, computer programs were developed that speed up the calculation of the time norm. If the working method is defined in advance and the characteristics of the sewing machine are known, the time norm for each technological operation can be determined in advance. Based on these calculations, it is possible to determine the total time for the production of clothing in advance and thus to plan and schedule the production process and plan the delivery dates to customers. The results show that the technical equipment of the sewing machine and the working method have an influence on the structure of the technological sewing process. By choosing an appropriate working method, the workload and fatigue of the workers is reduced, as an appropriate number of auxiliary hand sub-operations are used. In this way, the appropriate time required to perform the technological operation is achieved.

Abstract:
As the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, a widespread shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) specifically N95 face masks were exposed. This need was quickly answered by home sewers who did not hesitate to answer the request of medical professionals to help fill the PPE shortage. As the United States entered a national quarantine, home sewers turned to social media, specifically Instagram to share their participation and communicate the need to recruit others to join them in their mask sewing efforts. This research aimed to interpret the Instagram post messages shared to understand the motivations of participation in mask sewing efforts. Social media hashtags were used to identify the messages related to home sewing face masks for the pandemic. A netnographic qualitative research approach uncovered five overarching themes: this is helping me, call to action, do it right, rising to the occasion and I’m ready for this.

AbstractIntroduction:Reports of medical care at mass gatherings reflect variability in mission and delivery models. Equipment recommendations are similarly varied. Thoughtful pre-planning and experience-based analysis are the best mechanisms for defining general and specific equipment recommendations. Objective:This report presents a suggested supply and equipment list developed over a six-year period of medical coverage at an air show, with an emphasis on the usage and cost of expendable supplies. Methods:The authors were involved in the planning for and execution of emergency medical care for a large, local, military air show on an annual basis, including provision of expendable medical supplies. A list of such supplies was developed over the initial two to three years, formalized and refined over the subsequent two years, and analyzed in the final, highest patient volume year of coverage. Detailed usage and cost was tracked over the final year for expendable supplies. Results:The results of this analysis indicate that comprehensive emergency medical care from first aid to mass casualty care can be offered at reasonable equipment and supply costs, if existing equipment resources can be supplemented by expendable supplies from a pre-determined list. Given the need for large quantities of supplies for a mass casualty contingency and the low likelihood of occurrence, a loan arrangement with a supplier, with return of unused supplies, is particularly convenient and economical. The approach used in this study should be appreciable in other similar settings. In concurrent scheduled events, the iterative process described can lead to greater specificity of needs for expendable supplies.

The importance of safety at the workplace cannot be overemphasized. The research was conducted at the Fashion Design and Technology department of Takoradi Technical University. Unfortunately, many safety precautions are overlooked with time. Users of sewing equipment and tools tend to believe they have gained enough experience over time with regard to handling same, so refuse to protect themselves with any protective gadgets. This study was therefore to identify the need for safety in the above-mentioned department through general risk assessment, examining what safety measures and practices were being followed, and the effect of accidents on work performance by examining some performance enhancers. The paper adopted the descriptive approach in analyzing issues. Primary data were obtained for analysis using questionnaire, in addition to some secondary sources of data. It was found out that some limited amount of security measures was observed. It was generally agreed that accidents or failure to observe safety practices resulted in delayed or uncompleted assignments. The major complaints included limited classroom space and workshop space, and inadequate sewing equipment for numerous students which impeded supervision and learning. It was recommended that the production unit (workshop) and classrooms be spacious and equipped with modern working equipment.

Abstract:
Abstract This essay intends to provide an introduction into an interesting aspect of the German war economy of the First World War not previously examined in detail: home-based outwork for the production of military supplies. In particular, this type of home-based outwork enjoyed great popularity amongst women with no previous experience of this form of work, such as soldiers’ wives and war widows. They were supported by various charitable welfare societies and women’s organizations which campaigned for public welfare during the war. Their efforts included the establishment of sewing rooms in which military home-based outwork was provided as emergency work. Orders were supplied by the military procurement bodies of the German Reich. Although many potential workers were thus withheld from the armaments industry, the development was not seen as a problem by the military administration. However, it did react critically to the many cases in which particularly female home workers were duped by firms when picking up their work. Especially in the area around Berlin, the military authorities intervened vigorously to enforce standard wages for the home workers sewing military uniforms. Nevertheless, the year 1916 marks a turning point: This benevolent stance on home-based outwork changed under the pressure of new employment priorities. New contract regulations made military home-based outwork difficult for unskilled male and female workers to access. These were in theory then available to work in the armaments industry and in agriculture, areas both struggling to meet labour demands. Moreover, the changes led to an organizational separation between sandbag sewing and other home-based outwork involved in producing textiles for the military. In the case of sandbag sewing, a separate war committee was responsible for the planned distribution of sandbag orders throughout the whole Reich.

Abstract:
One of the main directions of logistic support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is medical support which is aimed at life safeguard and health of military personnel, well-timed and efficient provision of medical care in the event of injuries, injuries and diseases, fast renewal of combat power and ability to work in different conditions of its handling and at different period of time. The readiness of medical service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the medical support of the troops depends on the well-timed organization of medical supplies and the refilling of medical supplies full and complete. The qualitative and efficient allocation of medical equipment and medical supplies is a determining factor in this process. The aim of the work – reasoning of the irregularity of distribution logistics in the unified logistic system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the study of the main aspects of management of the distribution of medical supplies from the position of military pharmaceutical logistics. To get the purpose of the research, the analysis of domestic scientific sources and the current normative and legal base of Ukraine have been carried out. Research methods are: information search, comparison, systemization, semantic analysis, synthesis and modeling. In the conditions of logistic support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the security and defense forces of Ukraine, the logistic function of the distribution of logistical equipment, inventory, military equipment and services (food, bath and laundry services, etc.) should ensure the activity of troops (forces) in peacetime and war time. It is the guarantee of the ability to ensure the defense of the state and appropriate response to military threats to the national security of Ukraine, efficiently using available potential and resources. Distribution logistics from the position of military pharmaceutical logistics is the management of all functional subsystems of the medical supplies and health services of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in order to optimize the distribution of the material flow (purchased medical supplies) from the supplier to the final consumer (according to the applications of the Military Medical Clinical Centers of the Regions). Same, distributive logistics in the structure of a unified logistic support system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not carry a commercial component, and its functions consist in planning, organization of distribution, control and regulation of the logistic process of distribution of material and technical means (including medical equipment and supplies), inventory, military equipment, services (catering, bath and laundry service, etc.). According to the authors, the term «marketing logistics» is not possible to use as a single system of logistic support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and in its subsystems. To sum it up, it was suggested to use the term «distributive logistics». On the basis of theoretical generalization of the data of scientific literature and normative legal acts, the main aspects of management of the distribution of medical equipment and supplies from the standpoint of military pharmaceutical logistics are studied. The functions of distributive logistics are defined, the model of the current logistic chain of distribution of medical equipment and supplies in the medical service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is constructed. It is noted that in order to ensure the qualitative and efficient distribution of medical equipment and supplies, a regulatory and legal framework which regulates the division of powers between institutions and units of medical supplies and defines the responsibility for their implementation in the current conditions of the reformation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Abstract:
The paper presents the results of the development and construction of a mathematical model for the design of an aerodynamic grabber of cut textile parts from a pile of loading manipulators of general-purpose sewing machines to create purpose-built robotic technological complexes based on them. Automatic one-by-one loading of cut parts from textile materials from a stack of sewing machines is one of the main stages of automation of the equipment and work process when using modern general-purpose computerized sewing machines. A numerical calculation of the stationary suction force F_st was performed during the piece-by-piece separation of cut textile parts from the stack by an aerodynamic gripper. It was established that the obtained results of the calculation of the stationary suction force of the gripper of the sewing manipulator can be used for other fairly close values of the geometric parameters of the aerodynamic plate. This allows us to assume that the equations used to calculate F_st reliably describe the studied work process under the accepted limitations and idealization of the work environment for piece-by-piece separation of cut textile parts from the foot. A mathematical model of an aerodynamic grabber of cut textile parts from a stack for automated loading of sewing machines has been developed. A method of calculating the stationary suction force of the aerodynamic grabber of the sewing manipulator based on the results of calculations based on the use of a mathematical model has been developed, which allows us to assume that the equations used to calculate F_st reliably describe the studied work process under the accepted limitations and idealization of the working environment for piece-by-piece separation of textile cut parts from the foot
