Abstract:
Sadism is a concept that is applied to rape–torture and rape–murder as well as the pleasures of consensual sadomasochism. From the 1890s, forensic psychiatrist Richard von Krafft-Ebing was responsible for popularising the term. This article explores Krafft-Ebing’s understanding of the “degenerative” sadist and looks at how popular and psychiatric ideas changed over the past century. Why did it quickly become a common term in society? Why was sadism regarded as a “perversion” of “normal” male sexuality? In forensic terms, one interesting thing about the invention of sadism is why it needed to b

Sexual deviance is in some way a socially constructed phenomenon that shifts over time with public opinion. The various forms of sexual deviancy are grouped and defined utilizing the DSM-IV descriptions (American Psychitric Association, 1994), because this clasification it is the most frequently used in forensic settings. Adult sexual assault is an essential focus of forensic psychology, variously diagnosed as sexual sadism, paraphilia NOS (not otherwise specified), or undiagnosed. Purpose Sexual sadism is a well-known risk factor for severe forms of sexual violence including sexual homicide and serial sexual homicide. The research is decidedly mixed about the association between sexual sadism and other, nonsexual forms of criminal conduct. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on data from a census of 225 federal sex offenders from a jurisdiction in the Midwestern USA, the current study examined whether sexual sadism had a spillover effect into nonsexual crimes using correlation, ANOVA, and negative binomial regression models. Sadism was initially described as the experience of sexual pleasure produced by acts of cruelty and bodily punishment. Sadism was conceptualized as if sadists were fundamentally different from nonsadists. Recent studies have suggested that sadism is distributed as a dimension rather than as a category. The aim of the current study was to assess the psychometric properties the MTC Sexual Sadism Scale. Our analyses were conducted on a sample of 486 sexual offenders assessed at a correctional institution in Massachusetts. In summary, the results indicate that the MTC Sexual Sadism Scale possesses

Abstract In India, the act of Sadomasochism can be dated back to the ancient times of Kamasutra where it had been intended to increase lust. Also, many acts of non-consensual sexual sadism (especially in torturing enemies) can be seen in history. The present article describes a case of sexual sadism and reviews the current diagnostic approaches of sexual sadism and its medico legal implications. The reported cases of sexual sadism indicate just a tip of the iceberg as most of the cases go unreported in a country like India, where any talk of sex or divorce are a taboo. The present review examines the published literature that is relevant to developing an understanding of the relationship between the concepts of sexual sadism and fantasy. Relevant articles were identified through searches of multiple databases. The concepts of sadism and fantasy are initially considered separately and a brief overview of the literature relating to their definition and prevalence is presented. Early influential models and studies into the role of fantasy in sadism are then reviewed. Despite their methodological limitations they continue to dominate the research in this area. M

<p> The Marquis de Sade became famous, or infamous depending on one's perspective, for the ferocious depictions of sexual predation which are found throughout his literary works, and consequently, the character of the sexual predator is indispensable to understanding the author's philosophical standpoint. For Sade, the laws of nature determine the sex of the individual, but they also require him or her to satisfy a set of physical needs which reject the masculine/feminine binary as often as they embrace it.
