The article analyzes the implementation of Philip Roth’s (1933–2018) artistic method in the novel “American Pastoral”, which connects the historical events with a personal family drama and problematizes the Jewish identity in diaspora. The analysis shows that several key events from the history of the United States (the second half of the 20th century) were used as a conceptual basis for narrative structure and for the set of characters. World War II, the Vietnam War, which Roth had not previously discussed in a comprehensive manner, the 1967 Newark riots, and the Watergate scandal turn out to

Abstract BACKGROUND: BH3 profiling is a functional assay that assesses the degree to which cells are primed to die via mitochondrial apoptosis. We previously used this technique to show that pre-treatment CLL cells from patients who responded to frontline chemoimmunotherapy had higher levels of apoptotic priming than cells from refractory patients (Davids et al., Blood, 2012). BH3 profiling also detects dependence on individual anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins. Recently, ABT-199, a selective, potent, small molecule antagonist of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, has been found to be highly

This paper discusses $\widehat{\mathcal{D}}_k$ and related topics. An infinite graph is quasi-transitive if its vertex set has finitely many orbits under the action of its automorphism group. In this paper we obtain a structure theorem for locally finite quasi-transitive graphs avoiding a minor, which is reminiscent of the Robertson-Seymour Graph Minor Structure Theorem. We prove that every locally finite quasi-transitive graph $G$ avoiding a minor has a tree-decomposition whose torsos are finite or planar; moreover the tree-decomposition is canonical, i.e. invariant under the action of the automorphism group of $G$.
