The study comparing the effectiveness of a novel liquid-based Pap test (the PapSpin) with the conventional Pap smear. The impetus behind the study is meritorious: although the conventional Pap smear has been highly effective in diminishing mortality from cervical cancer, it is not perfect. <p>In this thesis an approach to joint source-channel coding using direct source to channel mappings is studied. The system studied communicates i.i.d. Gaussian sources on a point-to-point Gaussian memoryless channel with limited feedback (supporting channel state information at most). Criticality calculations are often performed in MCNP5 using the Shannon entropy as an indicator of source convergence for the given neutron transport problem. The Shannon entropy is a concept that comes from information theory. The Shannon entropy is calculated for each batch in MCNP5, and it has been shown that the Shannon entropy tends to converge to a single value as the source distribution converges.
