Learning powerful deep generative models for 3D shape synthesis is largely hindered by the difficulty in ensuring plausibility encompassing correct topology and reasonable geometry. Indeed, learning the distribution of plausible 3D shapes seems a daunting task for the holistic approaches, given the significant topological variations of 3D objects even within the same category. Enlightened by the fact that 3D shape structure is characterized as part composition and placement, we propose to model 3D shape variations with a part-aware deep generative network, coined as PAGENet. Nanoparticle shape evolution during reaction mixture reflux was monitored by characterizing particles extracted from the reaction mixture at different times. It is illustrated that during nanoparticle synthesis the reflux process can prov

Research syntheses provide one means of managing the proliferation of research knowledge by integrating learnings across primary research studies. What it means to appropriately synthesize research, however, remains a matter of debate: Syntheses can assume a variety of forms, each with important implications for the shape knowledge takes and the interests it serves. To help shed light on these differences and their stakes, this chapter provides a critical comparative review of six research synthesis infrastructures, entities that support research syntheses through investments they make in synt

SUMMARY In order to maintain shape and withstand intracellular pressure, most bacteria are surrounded by a cell wall that consists mainly of the cross-linked polymer peptidoglycan (PG). The importance of PG for the maintenance of bacterial cell shape is underscored by the fact that, for various bacteria, several mutations affecting PG synthesis are associated with cell shape defects. In recent years, the application of fluorescence microscopy to the field of PG synthesis has led to an enormous increase in data on the relationship between cell wall synthesis and bacterial cell shape. This paper deals with the development of 2-D space maps during navigation in unknown environments, by synthesizing the shapes of consecutive free spaces. Each shape extracted from each current-free navigation space is represented by attributed graphs. Thus, the synthesis of the shapes is based on the synthesis of graphs for the generation of new graph forms that represent the new shape traveled by an autonomous robot. Illustrative examples from a space with obstacles are presented.

Object shape dependent kinematic manipulability measures are essential for the formulation of optimal path planning and trajectory synthesis algorithms used for moving objects in operations such as mating parts and for formulating related object shape optimization prob

Transmitarray antennas, which consist of a feed antenna plus a printed planar structure that emulates a lens, are able to provide high directivity antenna performance, and have been the subject of sustained research over the past ten years. The transmitarray lens consists of a lattice of cells, with each cell occupied by an element that includes conductors of specific shape. The feed field incident on each elemen

Characteristic modes (CMs) provide deep insight into the electromagnetic behaviour of any arbitrarily shaped conducting structure because the CMs are unique to the geometry of the object. We exploit this very fact by predicting a perhaps surprising number of important antenna metrics such as resonance frequency, radiation efficiency and antenna Q (bandwidth) without needing to specify a feeding location. In doing so, it is possible to define a collection of objective functions that can be used in an optimizer to shape-synthesize antennas without needing to define a feed location a priori. We d

Indeed, communications engineers continue to bemoan the fact that that the antenna elements are often still designed with such coupling as an afterthought. Thus, some authors have used the decoupling surface (DS) idea, whereby a separate DS is added to the MEA systems to reduce the above coupling. For high resolution wave direction finding, much attention has been recently paid on linear arrays which are used to extract 1-D directions of wave arrival. The techniques based on linear (1-D) arrays can be used to extract 2-D directions of wave arrival if two linear arrays oriented to different directions are used and if an additional pairing process is employed. However, we believe that for the 2-D direction estimation, more efficient techniques should be explored based on 2-D arrays.

Abstract:
Investigations of recent firefighter line of duty deaths caused by rapid fire progression have highlighted a deficiency in firefighters’ understanding of how certain tactics affect the fire dynamics of ventilation-controlled fires. Many fires are in a ventilation-limited, decay state by the time firefighters arrive at the scene, meaning that introducing additional ventilation to the environment has the potential to cause rapid and intense fire growth.
