Abstract:
A numerical analysis of flow maldistribution and shell side flow on heat in a shell and tube heat exchanger is presented. The flow field at the inlet and in the headers was obtained by solving conservation equations of mass and momentum by employing k-ε turbulence model. As the flow maldistribution in the header affects the heat transfer performance of the STHE, pressure drop and velocity distribution of the fluid inside the header were analyzed. Two types of headers were considered with varying header length for a Reynolds number range of 1000 to 3000. As the header length was increased to 15

The modeled heat exchangers are relatively small, have single shell and tube passes. The leakage effects are not taken into account in the design process. Abstract:
Now a days, Shell and tube heat exchanger (STHE) is the best well known a heat exchanger broadly used in oil refinery, and other large chemical process due to fit to very high pressure application. The simulation process comprises of modeling and meshing the geometry of the STHE using CFD package ANSYS 15.0. The aim of the project is to design STHE with respect to heat transfer, flow characteristics, temperature field inside the shell and pressure drop. This is to be investigated by numerically modelling using ANSYS software tools. The heat exchanger (HE) contains 10 tubes inside a 600 mm long

Heating and chemical reactors benefit substantially from the serpentine tube arrangement in a tubular structure. Small space and high heat transfer coefficients may be achieved using the serpentine tube-in-tube design.
