Abstract:
Keywords

Abstract:

Abstract:
To investigate the effect and the mechanism of compound injection of Shenqi (Codonopsis and Astragalus) on Docetaxel resistance of human lung adenocarcinoma cell A549/ DTX. The cytotoxicities of Shenqi Injection were assayed with the MTT method, the effects of Shenqi Injection on apoptosis induced by Docetaxel in A549/ DTX was examined by flow cytometry (FCM). The expression levels of apoptosis regulator Bc1-2 and Bax were detected by Western blot. After treatment with Shenqi Injection for 24 hours, results showed that 15 μL / mL Shenqi Injection significantly increased toxicity of Docetaxel on A549/DTX. Shenqi Injection could reverse the Docetaxel resistance in A549/ DTX in vitro. The drug resistance reversal index (RI) was equal to 2.71 analyzed with MTT method. Shenqi Injection could enhance the apoptosis effect of Docetaxel on A549/DTX. We conclude that Shenqi Injection can reverse the drug resistance on A549/DTX, and its mechanism is to promote apoptosis may be related with the up-regulation of Bc1-2 expression and down-regulation of Bax expression.

Abstract. The taxocene of live epiphytal foraminifera was for one year monitored monthly on six phytal substrates in shallow water (<1 m) in two bays around Nevis, NE Caribbean Sea. Mosquito Bay was subject to a nutrient flux from a leaking septic tank. Long Haul Bay was comparatively undeveloped. SHE Community Structure Investigations (SHECSIs) revealed that the populations on five plants had logarithmic series distributions of species abundances, the slopes of lnS vs. lnE for these five time-series being within −1±0.3. In three time-series, they were within −1±0.05.Cluster analysis of twenty-five sediment samples in shallow water (<3 m) indicates that Nevis is largely surrounded by a single thanatacoenosis, for which SHECSI indicates a logarithmic series population structure. However, it is not possible to reconstruct perfectly the epiphytal population from the sediment thanatacoenosis. The thanatacoenosis included 40% allochthonous Amphistegina gibbosa, Archaias angulatus and Asterigerina carinata, washed in from offshore reefs, and few planorbulinids, although the latter dominates the biocoenosis on seagrass leaves in the backreef.

Abstract:
Introduction: This cross-sectional descriptive study aims to detect the incidence of different types of Malaria in Shendi, Sudan, during the period from November 2019 to February 2020. This study was conducted in Shendi, Sudan, which lies 150 km from the national capital of the Republic of Sudan, Khartoum. Methods: One hundred samples were taken, and the study was conducted in several hospitals in Shendi (Shendi teaching hospital, Almak Nimer hospital, and many laboratories in Shendi). This study examined different types of malaria parasite among the population of Shendi, taking into account the age, gender, residence. A rapid immunochromatographic test and blood film were used to diagnose the incidence of Plasmodium falciparum compared to the other types of Plasmodium. Results: On blood film test, 98% of already diagnosed cases of malaria by microscope were positive, and only 2% were negative; furthermore, 96 % of malaria cases were caused by P. falciparum, and only 2 % were caused by Plasmodium vivax. Conclusion: The present study concluded that the incidence of malaria was high in the study area. More than two-thirds of patients diagnosed with malaria in Shendi in 2019-2020 were young aged 15-30 years, and more than half of the cases were female. Blood film examination is the gold standard for malaria diagnosis. P. falciparum was responsible for 96% of cases, and the other species were much less common.

Abstract:
The present study investigated whether Shenqi-wan possesses a protective effect against hydrogen peroxide ( H 2 O 2)-induced apoptosis of the hippocampal cell line HiB5. Through morphological and biochemical analyses, it was demonstrated that HiB5 cells treated with H 2 O 2 exhibited several apoptotic features, while cells pre-treated with Shenqi-wan prior to H 2 O 2 exposure showed a decrease in the occurrence of apoptosis. In addition, a patch clamp study revealed that Shenqi-wan inhibited profoundly N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) receptor-activated ion current in acutely dissociated hippocampal CA1 neurons. These results suggest that Shenqi-wan may exert its protective effect against H 2 O 2-induced apoptosis via inhibition of NMDA receptors in hippocampal neuronal cells.

Abstract:
At present, the resources of anadromous fish in the world are drastically reduced and one of the solutions to promote its recovery may be to identify and protect its feeding grounds. To determine whether the feeding grounds of anadromous Coilia nasus in the Yangtze River are still in the sea area, the quantitative line analysis of Sr and Ca contents (Sr/Ca ratios) and the area distribution analysis of Sr content in the otoliths of C. nasus in three water areas (Poyang Lake, Yangtze River estuary and Shengsi Sea area) were carried out by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) to analyze the habitat use and the migratory patterns of different estuarine C. nasus. These results showed that the Sr/Ca ratios of all otoliths fluctuated significantly. By comparison, it was found that C. nasus of Yangtze River might exist in the Shengsi Sea area, and the Shengsi Sea area might be one of the feeding grounds of migratory C. nasus. Therefore, it is urgent to carry out a comprehensive investigation on the distribution of related groups in the Shengsi Sea area and the influence of potential threat factors, such as fishing and harsh habitat, to effectively protect the resources and habitats of C. nasus in the Shengsi Sea area.

As an example of Shenyi capsule on non-small-cell lung cancer combined with chemotherapy, this review discusses the synergistic effect and mechanism of natural drugs in oncotherapy from the yin-yang perspective in ancient Chinese philosophy, so as to reflect the therapeutic principle of natural drugs for tumor more comprehensively. The major focuses of this review are on the philosophical thinking of yin-yang as a tool which can not only explain the effect of Shenyi capsule in NSCLC combined with chemotherapy but also explore the mechanism of Shenyi capsule at the cellular and molecular level. Learning from the “yin-yang” thinking of ancient Chinese philosophy will bring more enlightenment to the research and development of traditional Chinese drugs in the future.

Abstract:
Purpose. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of Shenqi fuzheng injection on leukopenia and T-cell subsets in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) undergoing radiotherapy. Methods. A total of 124 patients with advanced NSCLC treated in the oncology department of our hospital from January 2017 to January 2019 were included and assigned at a ratio of 1 : 1 to receive conventional radiotherapy (control group, n = 62) or conventional radiotherapy plus Shenqi Fuzheng injection (study group, n = 62) via the random number table method. Results. The study group showed a significantly higher objective response rate (ORR) and a lower incidence of leukopenia versus the control group ( P < 0.05 ). After the treatment, Shenqi Fuzheng injection resulted in significantly lower levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in the study group versus conventional treatment given to the control group. After the treatment, the control group showed significantly decreased ratios of CD3+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, and CD4+/CD8+, and an increased ratio of CD8+ T cells, and significant differences when compared with the study group. The T-cell subsets of the patients in the study group showed no significant changes than those between the treatment. The median OS was 20.0 months in the control group and 23.5 months in the study group. The differences between the two groups in terms of OS did not come up to the statistical standard. Conclusion. Shenqi Fuzheng injection for NSCLC patients undergoing radiotherapy elevates the number of white blood cells, regulates T-cell immune function, reduces tumor markers, and enhances clinical efficacy. Further clinical trials are, however, required prior to clinical promotion.

Abstract:
In this study, ‘Xinli No. 3’, ‘Shengli rootstock’, ‘Shenli rootstock’ and ‘Shengzhen No. 1’ were used as rootstock, and ‘Jinchun No. 39’ cucumber was used as scion to study the effects of different rootstock on the yield and quality of grafted cucumber, and to select high quality rootstock suitable for cucumber grafting. Different rootstock affected the survival rate, phenology, the height of plant, stem diameter, growth potential, yield and quality of cucumber grafting. Among them, the survival rate of ‘Shenli rootstock’ grafted cucumber is the highest, and the growth of ‘Shengzhen No. 1’ grafted cucumber is relatively the strongest. There was no significant difference in fruit tuber, melon edge, thorn color and pulp crispness between self-rooted seedling (CK) and each rootstock grafting combination. The average yield of ‘Xinli No. 3’ grafted cucumber plot was not significantly different from that of self-rooted seedlings (CK). The length of ‘Shenli rootstock’ and ‘Shengli rootstock’ grafted cucumber was significantly higher than that of self-rooted seedlings (CK), and the length of ‘Shengzhen No. 1’ Grafted Cucumber was significantly higher than that of self-rooted seedlings (CK). The contents of vitamin C and soluble protein of ‘Shengli rootstock’, ‘Shenli rootstock’ and ‘Shengzhen No. 1’ grafted cucumber were significantly higher than those of self-rooted seedlings (CK), and the contents of soluble sugar were lower than those of self-rooted seedlings (CK). Therefore, ‘Shengzhen No. 1’ and ‘Jinchun No. 39’ have strong compatibility with cucumber. As rootstocks, the grafted cucumber plants not only have strong growth potential and high yield, but also significantly increase the content of soluble protein and vitamin C.

Abstract:
The story of seismic imaging over BHP's Shenzi Gulf of Mexico production field follows the history of offshore seismic imaging, from 2D to 3D narrow-azimuth streamer acquisition and to its leading the wide-azimuth movement with the Shenzi rich-azimuth (RAZ) survey. Each RAZ reprocessing project over the last 15 years applied the latest processing technology, culminating in hundreds of scenario tests to refine the salt model, but eventually the RAZ data reached a technical limit. A new ocean-bottom-node (OBN) survey acquired in 2020 has produced a step-change improvement over the legacy RAZ image. The uplift can be attributed to several factors. First, an OBN feasibility and survey design study demonstrated that a core of dense nodes combined with sparse nodes would improve the accuracy and resolution of the full-waveform inversion (FWI) solution. Second, the OBN data acquired following the survey design and employing FWI as the main model-building tool realized the predicted improvement. The result was a substantial change to the complex salt model, verified by a salt proximity survey as well as other salt markers, and improvement in imaging over the entire field. In addition to the improvement arising from a more accurate FWI velocity model, the steep-dip imaging also benefited from the new full-azimuth and long-offset data. However, the best steep-dip and fault imaging comes from the FWI image, a direct estimation of reflectivity from the FWI velocity. As the maximum frequency used by FWI moves toward the maximum frequency of the final reverse time migration (RTM), the FWI image approaches the resolution necessary to compete as the primary interpretation volume. Its subsalt illumination surpassed that of the RTM and even the least-squares RTM volumes. These imaging improvements are providing a new understanding of the faults and stratigraphic relationships of the field.

Abstract:
Hydrocarbon discharges into the ocean, both regulated and accidental, occur from offshore drilling and production operations, and can result in oil sheen (≤3 μm thick) and slick (>3 μm thick) formation, potentially harming marine birds. Sheens may commonly occur around offshore oil and gas platforms in Atlantic Canada, however, there is little information on regularity of occurrence. Further, there are few direct studies on potential impacts of sheens, associated with offshore oil and gas operations, on marine birds. We reviewed potential sources and frequency of hydrocarbon accumulation on sea surfaces from offshore oil and gas operations in Atlantic Canada, and the likelihood of overlap with marine birds. We conducted a literature review on lethal and sub-lethal effects of low levels of oil contact and ingestion on marine birds, focusing on studies that describe measured dosages of oil. We extrapolated from these data on low-dose oil exposure to link possible effects to marine birds resulting from exposure to sheens. We found that sheens occur around production operations in Atlantic Canada at allowable levels of oil concentrations in produced water. Frequency and extent of occurrence cannot be estimated from current monitoring practices. While immediate lethal effects to seabirds likely are not common from external oiling of feathers from sheens, added stressors, such as cold weather, can result in external oiling from sheens having significant impact on seabird metabolic rate and can be ultimately lethal. Ingestion of small amounts of oil, doses that realistically could be expected from exposure to sheens, in some cases resulted in sub-lethal effects to adult seabirds, primarily affecting metabolic rate, sub-lethal health impacts, and reproductive output. Nestlings and eggs do not come in direct contact with sheens, yet these life stages are highly sensitive to oil, and transfer of oil from adults exposed to sheens likely is above tolerance levels at times. Negative effects to reproductive output from small doses of ingested oil could be causing undetected impacts on marine birds and marine bird populations. Lack of standardized monitoring of marine bird contact with sheens and potential harm makes assessments of magnitude and extent of impact problematic.

Abstract:
We carry out a numerical study of the quantum walk search algorithm of Shenvi, Kempe and Whaley Shenvi et al. (2003) and the factors that affect its efficiency in finding an individual state from an unsorted set. Previous work has focused purely on the effects of the dimensionality of the dataset to be searched. In the current paper we consider the effects of interpolating between dimensions, the connectivity of the dataset and the possibility of disorder in the underlying substrate: all these factors affect the efficiency of the search algorithm. We show that in addition to the strong dependence on the spatial dimension of the structure to be searched, there are also secondary dependencies on the connectivity and symmetry of the lattice, with greater connectivity providing a more efficient algorithm. We also show that the algorithm can tolerate a non-trivial level of disorder in the underlying substrate.

Abstract:
This study was designed to compare the effects of Jinkui Shenqi and Wuzi Yanzong pill on sperm motility and sperm DNA fragmentation rate in patients with asthenospermia. 130 cases were randomly divided into an observation and control group (n=65). The control group was treated with the Wuzi Yanzong pill while the observation group with the Jinkui Shenqi pill. The sperm motility parameters rate (PR), semen concentration, sperm motility, DFI and α-glucosidase, fructose, seminal plasma zinc (Zn), acid phosphatase (ACP) in seminal plasma biochemistry and other indexes of were observed. The biochemical indexes of seminal plasma of α-glucosidase, fructose, Zn, ACP in two groups were significantly (p<0.05) improved after treatment. Compared with the control group, the indexes of the observation group improved more obviously after treatment. Pearson correlation analysis of DFI and PR indexes in 130 patients before treatment showed that sperm DFI and PR percentage were negatively correlated in asthenospermia patients (r =-0.572, P<0.05). There was no significant difference in DFI, semen concentration, PR, and sperm motility between the two groups before treatment. The DFI, semen concentration, PR and sperm viability of the two groups showed a tendency to improve after treatment, and the effect of the observation group was less significant than that of the control group (p<0.05). Two groups of patients have completed treatment successfully, no adverse events occurred during treatment. Jinkui Shenqi pill can effectively treat asthenospermia, which can effectively improve the effect of sperm motility in patients. It has less adverse reactions, safe and reliable, and is worthy of promotion.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of color Doppler ultrasound combined with superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in the detection of small renal tumors less than 3 cm treated with Jinkui Shenqi pills. 50 cases were randomly selected from the patients with angioleiomyoma (a kind of small renal tumor) less than 3 cm confirmed by pathological examination and treated in our hospital from January 2018 to January 2020. All patients were treated with Jinkui Shenqi pills. All patients were first detected by color Doppler ultrasound and then by SMI. The results of color Doppler ultrasound were used as the control group, while those of color Doppler ultrasound combined with SMI were used as the experimental group. After that, the specificity, sensitivity, positive and negative detection results, and detection accuracy were compared between the two groups. The specificity and sensitivity in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group, with statistical significance ( P < 0.05 ). The cases of positive and negative detection results in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group, with statistical significance ( P < 0.05 ). The detection accuracy in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group, with statistical significance ( P < 0.05 ). The specificity, sensitivity, positive and negative detection results, and detection accuracy of color Doppler ultrasound combined with SMI in the detection of small renal tumors less than 3 cm treated with Jinkui Shenqi pills were all significantly higher than those of color Doppler ultrasound; therefore, the application of color Doppler ultrasound combined with SMI for the diagnosis of small renal tumors is of high value.

Abstract:

In order to comprehend the many aspects of social and cultural historiography of traditional China, it is imperative to recognize who are the main actors. In traditional Chinese society, there is a significant category known as the Chinese gentry, or the shenshi 紳士 in Mandarin. They were known as the Chinese scholar-official class who administered the traditional Chinese dynastic government system since more than two-thousand years ago until the abolishment of the system in 1911. The Chinese gentry emerged from the intellectuals who became officials by going through a special, open-recruited, educational system; a system that enabled every person from any strata in traditional society to enroll. However, their office and titles could not be passed to their offspring through birthright. All ministers, governors, magistrates, intellectuals, poets, men of letters, and also the metropolitan and local informal leaders emerged from this class. Chinese histories in the times of the various dynasties are decorated by the roles and actions of this shenshi.

Abstract:
Nearly 5% of the Shenqi Fuzheng Injection’s dry weight comes from the secondary metabolites of Radix codonopsis and Radix astragali. However, the chemical composition of these metabolites is still vague, which hinders the authentication of Shenqi Fuzheng Injection (SFI). Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with a charged aerosol detector was used to achieve the profiling of these secondary metabolites in SFI in a single chromatogram. The chemical information in the chromatographic profile was characterized by ion mobility and high-resolution mass spectrometry. Polygonal mass defect filtering (PMDF) combined with Kendrick mass defect filtering (KMDF) was performed to screen potential secondary metabolites. A total of 223 secondary metabolites were characterized from the SFI fingerprints, including 58 flavonoids, 71 saponins, 50 alkaloids, 30 polyene and polycynes, and 14 other compounds. Among them, 106 components, mainly flavonoids and saponins, are contributed by Radix astragali, while 54 components, mainly alkaloids and polyene and polycynes, are contributed by Radix codonopsis, with 33 components coming from both herbs. There were 64 components characterized using the KMDF method, which increased the number of characterized components in SFI by 28.70%. This study provides a solid foundation for the authentification of SFIs and the analysis of its chemical composition.
