Abstract:

This thesis explores the literacy practices in literacy history, in everyday life and in Swedish tuition for immigrants (sfi) of five Kurdish adults. The study analyses connections and dividing lines between literacy practices of the sociotextual domains of everyday life and literacy practices of the sociotextual domain of sfi. It also explores the interaction between literacy history and present literacy practices. Further, there is a focus on the connections between identification, learning and literacy practices. The methodological approach is inspired by ethnography, employing individual semi-structured interviews and classroom observation. Video documentation, audio recordings and field notes are used for documentation. Theoretically the study is influenced by the research field New Literacy Studies where literacies are conceived of assets of socially and culturally grounded practices. The interviews are analysed from two perspectives: focusing on content and on linguistic discursive practices. In the analysis of interviews and observations, a number of interacting aspects of literacy events and literacy practices are also researched, such as purpose, time, place, participants, verbal language and artefacts. A lack of connection between the participants’ notions of who they are and the identities offered to them in sfi impairs the conditions of their active participation in the literacy practices, and consequently also impairs their learning. Identities connected to literacy history are of importance in this process. To exemplify this, the professional career they had in Kurdistan is still of central importance for two of the participants of the study. This complicates their identification as sfi-students and their engaging in the literacy practices of the sfi-education. If sfi teachers know which identities from everyday life are important to their sfi students and try to find connections between the sfi teaching and these identities, the chances improve of the students accepting the identities which they are offered in the literacy events. Then it will also be more probable that the students’ participation in the literacy events in sfi will lead to deep learning. In the sfi classrooms, the participants take part in literacy events of everyday life. There are three types of overlap between the literacy practices of sfi and of everyday life. (1) Literacy events from other sociotextual domains take place in the sfi-classrooms, but without recontextualization into sfi. (2) Literacy events based in sociotextual domains of everyday life are recontextualized into sfi. (3) Literacy events belong to more than one sociotextual domain. In spite of these three types of overlap there are complications when it comes to students starting out from literacy practices of everyday life when they take part in the literacy practices of sfi. It is not possible to transmit literacy practices in their totality, from one sociotextual domain to another. The literacy practices are situated in a specific sociotextual domain and will undergo a transformation as they are based in a different sociotextual domain. On the other hand, it is possible for sfi students to make use of everyday micro practices (e.g. cooperation and non-linear reading) when they take part in the literacy practices of sfi.

Abstract:

La mise en oeuvre de systèmes de détection de défauts à même les structures ou infrastructures en génie est le sujet d’étude du Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). Le SHM est une solution efficace à la réduction des coûts associés à la maintenance de structures. Une stratégie prometteuse parmi les technologies émergentes en SHM est fondée sur l’utilisation d’ondes ultrasonores guidées. Ces méthodes sont basées sur le fait que les structures minces agissent comme guides d’ondes pour les ondes ultrasonores. Puisque les structures aéronautiques sont majoritairement minces, les ondes guidées constituent une stratégie pertinente afin d’inspecter de grandes surfaces. Toutefois, les assemblages aéronautiques sont constitués de plusieurs éléments modifiant et compliquant la propagation des ondes guidées dans celles-ci. En effet, la présence de rivets, de raidisseurs, de joints ainsi que la variation de la nature des matériaux utilisés complexifie la propagation des ondes guidées. Pour envisager la mise en oeuvre de systèmes de détection basés sur les ondes guidées, une compréhension des interactions intervenant dans ces diverses structures est nécessaire. Un tel travail entre dans le cadre du projet de collaboration CRIAQ DPHM 501 dont l’objectif principal est de développer une banque de connaissances quant à la propagation d’ondes guidées dans les structures aéronautiques. Le travail de ce mémoire présente d’abord les résultats d’études paramétriques numériques obtenus dans le cadre de ce projet CRIAQ. Puis, afin de faciliter la caractérisation expérimentale de la propagation des ondes guidées, une seconde partie du travail a porté sur le développement d’un absorbant d’ondes guidées. Cet absorbant permet également d’envisager l’extension des régions observables par les systèmes SHM. Ce deuxième volet contribue donc également au projet CRIAQ par l’atténuation de réflexions non désirées dans l’étude menée sur les maintes structures aéronautiques nourrissant la banque de connaissances. La première partie de ce mémoire relève l’état des connaissances de la littérature sur la propagation d’ondes guidées dans les structures aéronautiques. La deuxième partie présente rapidement le formalisme derrière les ondes de Lamb ainsi que les différentes approches analytiques pour caractériser les interactions entre ondes guidées et discontinuités. Par la suite, les outils utilisés pour effectuer les simulations par éléments finis sont présentés et validés par le biais d’une phase expérimentale. La deuxième partie se termine avec la présentation des différentes structures et discontinuités étudiées dans le cadre du projet CRIAQ. Finalement, la troisième et dernière partie de ce mémoire présente les travaux numériques orientés vers la conception d’un absorbant idéal pour ondes guidées. Afin d’y parvenir, une étude paramétrique quant à la forme, les dimensions et les propriétés mécaniques de l’absorbant est entreprise. Enfin, une étude expérimentale permettant de valider les résultats numériques est présentée.

Abstract:

Syftet med den här studien är att skapa kunskap om lärares arbete med digitala verktyg i SFI-undervisningen. Dels att kartlägga vilka digitala verktyg som används i SFI-undervisningen och hur dessa används. Dels att studera lärarnas upplevelser av hur detta påverkar deras arbete och elevernas undervisning. Resultatet av min studie diskuteras också ur ett sociokulturellt- och ett kognitivt perspektiv. Studien baseras på intervjuer med fem lärare på två SFI-skolor och visar att de har en del gemensamma undervisningsmetoder. De använder digitala verktyg som visuella hjälpmedel i klassrummet och de utnyttjar olika modaliteter för elevernas inlärning. På andra punkter skiljer sig lärarnas undervisning åt, så som i användningen av mobila applikationer. Likaså hur lärarna återkopplar på t.ex. skriftliga uppgifter. Vidare visar studien att eleverna på många sätt kan gynnas av digitala verktyg i undervisningen då det både kan fungera som stöttning och sätter eleven i centrum av undervisningen. Lärarna upplever att fördelarna på många sätt överväger i undervisningen med digitala verktyg. De menar dock att elevernas ibland bristande digitala kompetens kan vara en utmaning. Likaså påpekar de att det krävs tid och inspiration för att förnya undervisningen och fortsätta utvecklas i takt med tekniken.

Abstract:

Syftet med denna intervjustudie är att se hur lärare arbetar med informations- och kommunikationsteknik (IKT) i sin undervisning, inom svenska som andraspråk. Kvalitativa semistrukturerade forskningsintervjuer gjordes med Sva-lärare i Stockholm. Studien utgår ifrån två övergripande forskningsfrågor; dels hur lärarna motiverar användandet av IKT och dels vilka metoder och verktyg inom IKT som används. Resultatet visar att tekniken har en central del i lärarnas undervisning och tjänar olika syften. Dels blir eleverna mer motiverade när de aktiveras och själva tar tag i sitt lärande, det blir också mer underhållande undervisning och det underlättar en individanpassad undervisning, stimulerar olika inlärningsstilar och kan underlätta lärarens arbete. Lärarrollen ersätts inte av tekniken, utan får nya former då läraren kan möta eleverna oberoende av tid och rum. Verktygen de använder skiljer sig åt men samtliga arbetar med lärplattformar (via mobil, datorer eller I-pads) och samtliga låter eleverna ha sina privata mobiltelefoner till hjälp. Lärarna upplever utmaningar, såsom när ITsatsningar läggs ner, de upplever sig ensamma om sitt engagemang i skolan eller får brist på tid att utforska teknikens möjligheter ytterligare.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how teachers work with information and communication technologies (ICT) in teaching Swedish as a second language. Qualitative semi-structured research interviews where done with five teachers in Stockholm. The study is based on two overarching research questions; the teachers reason of using ICT and second which methods and tools they use. The result shows that ICT has a central role in teaching and serve different purposes. The students are more motivated when they are activated and they reach higher control in their learning, it also becomes more entertaining teaching and it facilitates individualized teaching, stimulates different learning styles and more. The role of the teacher is not replaced by technology, but it takes on new forms when the teacher can meet students regardless of time and place. The tools they use are different but they all work with learning management systems (via mobile, computers or I-pads) and all teachers allows students to have their private mobile phones. Teachers are experiencing challenges such as IT investments closed down, they feel alone in their involvement in school or have a lack of time to explore further opportunities with the digital work.

Abstract:

In tracing the experience of Chinese Canadians in the 20th Century, we need to look further back into its history. Most people believe that the increasing number of immigrants from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China in the 1980s and 1990s played the most important roles in the social and economic changes during the latest decades of the 20th Century. The contribution of the Chinese Canadians settlement throughout the 20th Century should also be considered as it marks the beginning of the rise of their social status and identity in Canada. Although the Chinese Canadians earned their fame and status since the 1980s, they had been racially discriminated for more than a century. To probe into the situation, the social and political situations in the Chinese Canadian community will be meticulously analyzed and their contribution in difference aspects examined. In addition, other minority ethnic groups, such as the Japanese, Jewish and Indian, will be used as a comparison to demonstrate the change of policies towards the Chinese in Canada. In doing so, both English and Canadian Chinese newspapers will be used to illustrate the cultural difference between the “whites” and “non-whites”. To illustrate the changes, the 20th Century will be break into three parts. In most of the pre-Second World War period, the Chinese community was isolated from the mainstream community with their activities largely confined to Chinatowns in cities, such as Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto and so on. For the Chinese living in small townships, such as Prince Rupert, Richmond and so on, their daily life will also be examined. When Canada declared war on Japan on 7th December 1941, Canada became an ally of China during the war. A sentiment of acceptance of the Chinese in the mainstream society began to take shape. Some of the Chinese chose to contribute their efforts to Canada by joining the Canadian Armed Forces and went into battle alongside the White Canadians. After the Second World War, Canada adopted a new policy towards the minority ethnic groups and Chinese Canadians started to enjoy political equality. In May 1947, the Canadian Government repealed the Chinese Immigration Act. In 1967, after the liberalization of the Canadian immigration policy, the Chinese, once again, were allowed to immigrate freely to Canada as an individual. With granted full citizenship, the Chinese social and political status began to change. In 1957, Douglas Jung, a Canadian born Chinese, was elected a Member of the Parliament, which can be seen as the beginning of the Chinese involvement in the political arena of the Canadian community. Since then, Chinese Canadians were able to achieve equality in the society. Based on documentary accounts and oral history research, this thesis re-constructed the history of Canadian Chinese involvement in the 20th Century and the change of their identity and social status thereafter.

Abstract:

Commercial composite aerospace structure is required to be designed and managed under the damage tolerant principle. Airworthiness is maintained through a process of regulated inspections and if required maintenance. Currently inspections use visual and assisted visual (non-destructive inspection - NDI) techniques. Damage tolerant operation is therefore reliant on inspectability. Unlike metal structure composite and adhesively bonded structure may show few if any recognisable indicators prior to rapid failure, either visually or using NDI. Although stringent manufacturing processes are demanded to best ensure components are fit for service strategies such as reducing stresses by oversizing components or in the case of bonded features additional mechanical fasteners may be included to allow operation with this potential structural uncertainty. Structural Heath Monitoring (SHM) uses data from in-situ sensors to assess the condition of the structure. If via SHM any uncertainty associated with difficult to inspect components could be eliminated less reliance would be required of additional structure or features allowing lighter and more efficient structure to be viable with no impact on current airworthiness demands. Despite much previous research no SHM system is in use with in-service composite or bonded aerospace components. When operating a structure under Damage-tolerance operational requirements damage must be positively identified to allow repairs to be made whist ensuring appropriate airworthiness demands are maintained. Such demands must also be met by structure inspected using SHM. Unlike previous studies this research combines the process of structural design and in-situ monitoring to address the issues identified. Termed SHM enabled design this approach allows the implementation of monitoring technology and the potential for benefits including the reduced reliance on inefficient additional structure to be viably included in actual structure ... Mina frågor handlar om hur de ser på behovet av litteracitet, vilka mål de har med sina studier och hur de ser på förutsättningarna att lyckas. För att få svar på min frågeställning har jag valt att göra kvalitativa intervjuer med fem inlärare av svenska som andraspråk som befinner sig på olika nivåer i det svenska utbildningssystemet. Jag har även tagit del av tidigare forskning och rapporter på området samt gällande kursplan. Resultatet visar att det är många faktorer som påverkar den enskilde individens motivation och förutsättningar att bli funktionellt litterat. Samtliga informanter anser att litteracitet är nödvändig för att klara sig i det svenska samhället. De har dock olika behov av litteracitet då deras mål med studierna skiftar. Två informanter har som mål att bli färdiga med kurs 2C på sfi. Den ena informantens mål är att sedan gå ut i arbete och den andres mål är att klara vardagliga situationer och sociala kontakter så som kontakten med barnens skola, tandläkarbesök etcetera. Tre av informanterna planerar att gå ett yrkesförberedande program på gymnasienivå till hösten för att sedan kunna gå ut i arbete. En av dessa har dock akademiska studier som sitt långsiktiga mål då hon planerar att läsa till sjuksköterska. Förutsättningarna att lyckas med studierna är kantade av svårigheter då informanterna upplever att flera faktorer försämrar deras möjligheter att nå framgång i studierna. Dessa faktorer rör främst tid till studier utanför undervisningstiden. En sådan faktor är svårigheten att lära sig läsa och skriva på ett språk som man ännu inte behärskar vilket är ett tidskrävande arbete. En annan faktor är bristen på barntillsyn då informanterna endast har barnomsorg när de själva är i skolan. Den tredje faktorn är trångboddheten vilken gör det svårt att hitta en ostörd plats att göra sina läxor på.

Abstract:

The U.S. Navy is currently conducting research which will support the production of a MW-class free-electron laser (FEL). The Navy's end-state goal is to design and implement a defense system capable of destroying a fast-flying, anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM) target. To this end, the necessity of ensuring accurate pointing control of the beam is required. The first part of this thesis focuses on the U.S. Navy's desired end-state and investigates the ability of feedback and feed-forward control methods to provide improved pointing accuracy to a beam director mounted on a naval vessel similar in size to that of a Ticonderoga-class cruiser while traversing through various sea-states. The second part of this thesis examines the feasibility of employing the FEL as a means of deep-space (Mars and beyond) communication and orbital debris removal and tracking of objects in low-earth orbit (LEO).

Abstract:

Syfte: Syftet med arbetet är att förbättra dimensioneringsprocessen för knutpunkter i stålstrukturer. Förslag har getts på en förbättrad dimensionsprocess baserad på de BIMrelaterade datorprogrammen SBI Steel Connections och FEM-design. Syftet har brutits ner till följande frågeställningar:  Hur går konsultföretag till väga idag för att beräkna knutpunkter vid stålkonstruktioner?  Hur kan den vanligaste dimensioneringsprocessen för knutpunkter förbättras?  Vilka fördelar blir det vid en sammankoppling av de BIM-relaterade datorprogrammen SBI Steel Connections och FEM-design? Metod: Arbetet grundar sig i en fallstudie och ett flertal metoder användes för att samla in data. Dessa är semistrukturerade intervjuer, litteratursökning, dokumentanalys och beräkningar. Resultat: Genom arbetet framgår det hur dimensioneringsprocessen ser ut för knutpunkter i stål. Resultatet är att processen varierar beroende på företag. Vissa delar i processen kan utföras på olika sätt men grundprincipen är densamma för de flesta företagen som har intervjuats. Vid dimensionering av knutpunkter som kan ske både för hand och med hjälp av ett datorprogram kan det uppstå felslag vid inmatning eller felskrivningar. Denna del av processen kan förbättras med hjälp av en ökad användning av egengjorda mallar. Det sker ett utvecklingsarbete under våren 2015 där målet är att skapa en sammankoppling mellan SBI Steel Connections och FEM-design. Genom denna sammankoppling reduceras några av de fel som anses tillhöra den mänskliga faktorn. Konsekvenser: Undersökningen har medfört en förståelse med både fördelar och nackdelar för olika sätt att dimensionera knutpunkter i stål. En del företag stävar efter en större utveckling, medan andra anser sig jobba bäst på det sätt som de alltid har gjort. Det framgår att den mänskliga faktorn är något som påverkar dimensioneringsprocessen märkbart och dessa fel behöver reduceras. De rekommendationer som framgår i arbetet är att företag ska se över processen och de förnyelsemöjligheter som finns i branschen. Det rekommenderas även en större användning av de datorprogram som används vid dimensioneringsprocessen. Begränsningar: Avgränsningar gjordes utifrån de kunskaper som erhållits i utbildningen för att studien inte skulle bli alltför omfattande. Däremot har ny kunskap bidragit till ett större ämnesdjup som utbildningen inte berört. Studien orienterades kring knutpunkter av stål och en av de vanligaste knutpunkterna studerades. Stålkvalitet och dimensioner på pelare och balk valdes utifrån knutpunktsexemplet i SBI:s handbok publikation 186 (PT3). Rapporten behandlar enbart beräkningsprogrammen SBI Steel Connections och FEM-Design. Detta medförde endast avgränsningar på material, val av knutpunkt, pelar- och balkprofiler samt laster.

På SFI utgör kulturmöten en del av vardagen för lärare och elever och i mötena sker ett interkulturellt samspel. Syftet med denna uppsats är att ur ett interkulturellt perspektiv undersöka hur SFI-lärarna arbetar med vuxenutbildningens värdegrund kring jämställdhet. Genom inspelningar från kvalitativa intervjuer med fem verksamma SFI-lärare synliggörs deras erfarenheter kring jämställdhet i undervisningen, deras upplevda möjligheter och svårigheter samt hur det interkulturella samspelet framträder och hanteras. Resultatet visar att lärarna arbetar olika medvetet med jämställdhet vilket överensstämmer med tidigare forskning. Vidare upplever informanterna att eleverna i undervisningen får möjligheter till nya insikter men att de som lärare har svårt att hitta relevant undervisningsmaterial. Lärarnas positiva attityder syns i samspelet med eleverna men det förekommer också etnocentriska inslag. Slutsatsen är att en öppen och medveten interkulturell syn hos lärarna gynnar det interkulturella samspelet kring jämställdhet i undervisningen samt att samarbete och diskussion med kollegor ökar lärarnas medvetenhet kring sin kulturella prägling.

L’objectif de cette thèse est de réaliser un système de Contrôle Santé Intégré des structures aéronautiques (CSI ou SHM) autonome et à double-fonctionnalité. Ce système doit être en mesure d’assurer son autonomie énergétique tout en réalisant les tâches de détection et de localisation des endommagements. Latechnique retenue pour alimenter ce système est basée sur la récupération d’énergie vibratoire par transducteurs piézoélectriques SHM collés. Durant ces travaux, un modèle analytique complet de la chaîne de récupération d’énergie vibratoire a d’abord été créé. Ce modèle, validé par la Méthode des ÉlémentsFinis (MEF), permet d’améliorer le rendement du système en déterminant les dimensions, les locali-sations et le type de matériau piézoélectrique idéals des transducteurs. Ce modèle a ensuite été étendu à une configuration plus représentative des conditions de vibrations d’une structure en vol. Une bonne corrélation entre les résultats provenant du modèle prédictif et les essais sur un banc de mesures a étémise en évidence. Une puissance de 1.67mW a été récupérée et la capacité large bande des transducteurs a été vérifiée. L’application de la récupération d’énergie au contrôle de structures composites en cours d’assemblage sur les lignes de production a également été étudiée. Dans ce cas, un transducteur stratégiquement localisé et alimenté par une source de tension disponible génère des ondes de Lambdans la structure afin de pallier l’absence de vibrations naturelles. Un réseau de transducteurs secondaires disséminés sur cette structure récupère et convertit cette énergie vibratoire en énergie électrique. Une puissance de 7.36 mW a été récoltée et ce système a été en mesure de détecter une chute d’outil sur le composite et d’éclairer de façon autonome une diode électroluminescente (DEL) simulant ici la consommation de la transmission sans fil de l’information
The aim of this thesis is to develop a self-powered Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system for aeronautical applications. This system has to be fully autonomous and has to be able to carry out SHM tasks such as damage detection and location. The energetic autonomy of the system is provided by a vibrational energy harvesting technology using bonded SHM piezoelectric transducers. In this document,an analytical model of the energy harvesting process has been proposed. This model, validated by the Finite Element Method (FEM), allows the optimization of the energy harvesting system by determining the ideal type of transducers as well as their optimal dimensions and locations. Then, this model has been applied to a configuration aiming to be more representative of the in-flight vibrations experienced by a structure. Good agreement has been found between the analytical simulation and the experimental measurements. A power of 1.67mW has been harvested and the wideband capability of the transducers has been verified. Afterwards, the possibility of using the vibrational energy harvesting technology to control composite structures on assembly line has been investigated. For this case study, a transducer strategically located nearby an available power supply generates Lamb waves throughout the structure to tackle the absence of natural vibration. The remaining sensors, spread all over the structure, convertthe mechanical vibrations into electrical power. Using this technology, a power of 7.36mW has been harvested. Finally, this SHM system has also been able to detect a tool drop on the composite structure and to light simultaneously and autonomously a light-emitting diode (LED) simulating the consumption required to transmit the information wirelessly

Abstract:

A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool is developed in this thesis to solve complex fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. The fluid domain is based on Smoothed Particle Hydro-dynamics (SPH) and the structural domain employs large-deformation Finite Element Method (FEM). Validation tests of SPH and FEM are first performed individually. A loosely-coupled SPH-FEM model is then proposed for solving FSI problems. Validation results of two benchmark FSI problems are illustrated (Antoci et al., 2007; Souto-Iglesias et al., 2008). The first test case is flow in a sloshing tank interacting with an elastic body and the second one is dam-break flow through an elastic gate. The results obtained with the SPH-FEM model show good agreement with published results and suggest that the SPH-FEM model is a viable and effective numerical tool for FSI problems. This research is then applied to simulate a two-dimensional free-stream flow interacting with a deformable, pressurized surface, such as an ACV/SES bow seal. The dynamics of deformable surfaces such as the skirt/seal systems of the ACV/SES utilize the large-deformation FEM model. The fluid part including the air inside the chamber and water are simulated by SPH. A validation case is performed to investigate the application of SPH-FEM model in ACV/SES via comparison with experimental data (Zalek and Doctors, 2010). The thesis provides the theory of the SPH and FEM models incorporated and the derivation of the loosely-coupled SPH-FEM model. The validation results have suggested that this SPH-FEM model can be readily applied to skirt/seal dynamics of ACV/SES interacting with free-surface flow.

Playback Theatre offers changes of narrating, listening, and re-enacting personal stories. Through the practice of playback theatre, practitioners go through self-exploration and self-awareness. The researcher conducts a case study on Nan- Fei-Jue-Shi playback theatre by examining various aspects of practice of playback theatre, including art, ritual, social facts and personal growth. The researcher intends to clarify how these factors affect the self-awareness of the theatre members. During the practice of playback theatre, the members of theatre troupe have developed the abilities of empathy and self-awareness to think from the process of discovery, accommodation and assimilation. All of these enable practitioners to break down the inertia of body expression and cognition. The research result shows the significant sense of performers and spectators as a unified community.

Zeng-Ding-Han-Fei-Tzu-Jiao-Shih and Han-Fei-Tzu- Sin-Jiao-Jhu were often used to research Han-Fei-Tzu. They were important research results in the 20th century. CHEN,CI-TIAN mentioned in the preface. He thought CHEN,CI-YOU quoted his own results, but CHEN,CI-YOU did not make a note. CHEN,CI-TIAN’s suspicions come from 1. CHEN,CI-YOU used CHEN,CI-TIAN’s personal literature. 2. They have exactly the same conclusion. 3. They used almost identical Japanese literature. CHEN,CI-TIAN originally targeted CHEN,CI-YOU’s original(Han-Fei-Tzu-Ji- Shih), but these questions can still be seen in Han-Fei-Tzu- Sin-Jiao-Jhu. This article is written to solve CHEN,CI-TIAN’s questions and I tried to analyze the respective characteristics of their books. This article is based on comparative method. I discussed from the four parts. 1. I started to understand the background of the two researchers and books. The discussion is included the purpose of writing a book and book’s revision process. The government started agricultural land consolidation for the improvement of agricultural production environment in 1958. Major implementing items of agricultural land consolidation are the adjustment of cultivated land shape and structure, land exchange and integration, the improvement of agricultural irrigation facilities, etc. in order to have the results of facing road for every final piece of land and direct irrigation and draining system. After joining WTO in year 2002, the Council of Agriculture (COA) established a 4 year policy program between 2005 and 2008 for agricultural development. Within the program, the future agricultural land consolidation is requested to coordinate with new situation of agricultural operations. The purpose of agricultural land consolidation must take the improvement of operational efficiency in agricultural sector and farmers’ living standards into account. Thus, agricultural land consolidation is has been directed towards the concerns among production, living, and ecological in the sector. This research compares the effectiveness of recent agricultural land consolidation in two different areas. Tai-Ten area of Yuan-Li Township in Miao-Li County and Shu-Fen-Wen area of Chi-Gu Township in Tainan County are adopted for the comparison on their consolidating achievements. The results are obtained through past research projects and field investigation. Two areas completed the original project plans with different prospects of including some village renewal or not. Therefore, Shu-Fen-Wen area is considered as having better achievement on living aspect as compared to Ta-Ten area. We further analyzed possible problems for the two areas in terms of legal, planning, and implementation aspects. Final suggestions are given in accordance with the conclusions.
