Micromeria frivaldszkyana is an endemic species found only in Bulgaria. Its essential oil (EO) composition is unknown. This study assessed the EO yield and composition of M. frivaldszkyana as a function of the location and of drying prior to the EO extraction. M. frivaldszkyana was sampled from two natural habitats, Uzana and Shipka in the Balkan Mountains; the EO was extracted via hydrodistillation and analyzed on GC/MS. The plants from the two locations had distinct EO composition. The EO content (in dried material) was 0.18% (Uzana) and 0.26% (Shipka). Monoterpene ketones were the major gro

Abstract Background Availability of appropriate genetics is important for the development of smallholder poultry (SHP). The biological potential of improved dual purpose chicken germplasms was evaluated in Nigeria. Birds were fed ad libitum for the first 140 days after which restricted feeding was practised. Result Lowest and highest hatchability of eggs set was 55% (FUNAAB Alpha) and 89% (Sa

Hence it requires very accurate crystal centering, which is difficult especially for invisible crystals e.g. LCP crystals. Therefore, we perform raster diffraction scan to find crystal positions based on their diffractivity using low-dose exposure. It had been time consuming process due to two reasons; i) slow readout time of CCD, ii) manual inspection of hundreds of diffraction images. To tackle this problem, we installed new fast-readout CCD detector, MX225HS (Rayonix, L.L.

Abstract This chapter tackles how the Iranian revolution transformed Shiism, Sunnism, and Sunni-Shii relations. It cites how local factors shaped how local elites perceived Iran and to what extent this antagonism became violent or not. Opposition to the revolution took many forms, such as Sunni Arab nationalists like Iraq’s Saddam Hussain and global Salafi networks and the anti-Shia ideologues and movements in South Asia. The history of Sunni-Shii relations involves the history of the Iranian revolution and reactions towards the conflict between export and containment. Most Middle Eastern politics focus on the Sunni-Shii divide that ranges between the rivalry between Iran and Sunni-led countries and the shift of many Sunni Islamic movements from a pan-Islamic vision to an anti-Shii stance.

Abstract This chapter focuses on the crusades that resulted in the Victory of Sunni Internationalism. It starts with how the Sunni Saljuqs took Baghdad in 1055, which symbolised the start of the end of the Shii Century as Shiism ceased to be the religion of the current political powers. The deaths of Malik Shah and Nizam al-Mulk, and the lack of a clear succession plan allowed the Abbasid Caliphs to re-establish authority. Moreover, the Abbasid Caliphs emphasised pan-Islam and sought a rapprochement with the Shia. After the defeat of the last Crusader outposts by the Sunni Mamluks, Sunni rulers desired to punish people who cooperated with the Frank. However, some Shia saw the matter as an opportunity to regain the patronage of a major political power.

According to a 2019 report produced by the National Commission for Human Rights, a government formed commission, at least 509 Hazaras have been killed since 2013 (NCHR 2018: 2). According to one of the Vice Chairs of the Human Rights Commission Pakistan, the country's leading human rights watchdog, between 2009 and 2014, nearly 1,000 Hazaras were killed in sectarian violence (Butt 2014). The theme of this special collection of papers, the lived experiences of women who belong to religious minorities, has been a blind spot both in international development policy engagement and in much of the international scholarship on women, security and peace. Women who belong to religious minorities, who are socioeconomically excluded and are vulnerable to multiple sources of gender-based violence in Pakistan seem to have fallen through the cracks of the ‘leave no one behind’ agenda. The aim of this volume is to shed light on the day-to-day experiences of women and their families who belon
