Abstract Context: The failure of the vital signs to predict the severity of shock and the drawbacks of the trauma scoring systems have led to extensive research on shock index in polytrauma patients. This prospective, observational study was conducted to study the efficacy of the Shock Index (SI) and Modified Shock Index (MSI) as predictors of 24 h mortality in polytrauma patients. Aim: To validate the Shock index and Modified Shock index as predictors of 24 h mortality in polytrauma patients. Abstract. A useful index for estimating the transit speeds was derived by analyzing interplanetary shock observations. This index is the ratio of the in situ local shock speed and the transit speed; it is 0.6–0.9 for most observed shocks. The local shock speed and the transit speed calculated for the results of the magnetohydrodynamic simulation show good agreement with the observations. The relation expressed by the index is well explained by a simplified propagation model assuming a blast wave. For several shocks the ratio is approximately 1.2, implying that these shocks accelerated during p

AbstractThe effect of diffusive shock acceleration on a distribution of particles is explored for multiple shocks, taking into account adiabatic expansion between the shocks. Specifically, the spectral index is calculated numerically for two cases: a sequence of identical shocks, and a sequence of pairs of shocks with alternating shock strength. How these two cases evolve to the asymptotic limit is examined, and it is shown that the evolution of the paired-shock case can be described by a sequence of identical shocks with shock strength equal to the mean of the two.

The results reveal that economic policy uncertainty (oil price shocks) responds negatively to aggregate demand oil price shocks (economic policy uncertainty shocks). The indirect measurement of shock waveforms by acousto-optic sensing requires a method to reconstruct the field from the projected data. Under the assumption of spherical symmetry, one approach is to reconstruct the field by the Abel inversion integral transform. When the acousto-optic sensing modality measures the change in optical phase difference time derivative, as for a heterodyne Mach–Zehnder interferometer, e.g., a laser Doppler vibrometer, the reconstructed field is the fluctuating refractive index time derivative. A technique is derived that reconstructs the fluctuating index directly

The supply bottlenecks index (SBI) provides a consistent narrative of supply issues related to wars, natural disasters, strikes and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract:
Quantifying the impact of supply shocks on global commodity trade networks is an increasing concern for researchers under the current threats of climate change and the lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper proposes a novel methodology to estimate these effects across the entire trade network: we create a weight matrix based on an index that captures the extent to which two coffee-producing countries compete within consumer markets. This paper investigates the sudden 2019 termination by the United States Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) of trade with India as a quasi-natural experiment. Abstract:
With economies around the world facing more dire challenges as an immediate result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for national governments to borrow funds has grown. The abrupt increase in debt level highlights the importance of implementing suitable models to project emerging debt scenarios and assess debt sustainability. Given that sustainable debt levels vary from country to country, we applied the IMF’s Debt Sustainability Analysis to assess the Philippines’ debt burden over time to be used as an input in the construction of a debt index tracker that incorporates other relevant fiscal
