Abstract:
ABSTRACT Effects heat stress on physiological responses can be seen on increase body temperature, pulse rate and blood pressure (systole and diastole) and also weight loss. The aim of this study is to analyze the physiological responses of workers exposed to heat in confined space heater PT Nippon Shokubai Indonesia. This was an observational study with cross-sectional design. The sample was all of population (10 workers). Data was collected by measuring heat stress (WBGT), physiological responses before and after working and also questionnaire of individual factors. The result of heat stress measurement show that average of WBGT is above the Threeshold Limit Value (34,9OC) with the workload of the workers was in the heavy category (461,94 ccal) and work time category 0-25%. The result showed that the average body themperature before working was 36,73oC and after working was 38,13oC. The average pulse rate before working was 90,85 beats per minute and after working was 96,1 beats per minutes. The average systolic and diastolic blood pressure before working was 124,85 mmHg and 72,05 mmHg and the average after working was 126,05 mmHg and 72,45 mmHg. On the other hand, the average weight before working was 59,58 kg and after working was 58,3 kg. Hence, there were difference on the result of body temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and weight before and after working in CS heater.

Lee, Soo Mi. "Princess Shokushi's poetry and its allusions to women's unseen narratives in the Genji Monogatari." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/4174.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis aims to offer a scholarly approach to the poetics of Princess Shokushi, one of Japan’s most celebrated and influential female poets of the pre-modem era. Princess Shokushi is generally regarded as a poet of imagination, mainly because she wrote a number of passionate love poems despite her lifelong celibacy, imposed on her by her position as imperial princess. While some scholars conclude that Shokushi’s poetry came from her mastery of the traditional craft and a vigorous poetic imagination, others see her poetry as the personal expression of her innermost feelings and life experiences. Focusing on this controversy over whether or not her poetry is, in fact, based on real life experiences or merely invented—which some claim she did by exploiting the poetic conventions of the Japanese male poets of the day—this paper explores Shokushi’s distinctive poetic expression through her use of the literary technique called honka-dori, allusive variation. This research pays special attention to the poems that allude to The Tale ofGenii and reveals how Shokushi’s frequent allusions to this tale and its characters signal her profound interest in the story beyond the conventional literary trends of her time. Shokushi often refers to the specific female characters in her poems—Oigimi, Ukifune, and Lady Murasaki—, abandoned imperial princesses, whose lack of strong family support leaves them in close confinement deep in the mountains. By examining Shokushi’s poetry in the contexts of this narrative, ultimately, this paper will show how, in alluding to these female characters, Shokushi not only furthers her own image as an isolated imperial princess, but also throws light on these female characters’ inner sufferings, which are unknown to the male characters with whom they associate.

Abstract:
This project explores my relationship with elements of Japanese culture. Central to the project will be the Japanese practice of cosplay (dressing in costume), otaku (geek) subculture and their influences in the worlds of Japanese manga comic books and animated films. It will focus on the importance of kawaii (cute) in Japanese culture. The artworks will explore notions of identity and the ‘space between’. I shall do this through the gathering of Japanese objects which will be fused with my own image. I shall use photography, print and digital manipulation finishing in a sculptural installation referencing pop culture and commercial display. This project will constitute 80% practical work to be presented in a final exhibition piece accompanied by 20% written exegesis.

Abstract:
Criticisms and evaluations of Teika as a person and as a poet began during his own lifetime. The history of reception of Teika’s biography, poetry, and other works is surveyed from the thirteenth century up until modern times. Although Teika was generally regarded as an extremely skilled poet and occasionally venerated as a demigod of waka, factional battles among his descendants led to criticism of his poetry. Rumors of an illicit affair with his contemporary Princess Shokushi inspired a fifteenth-century noh play and further embellished his reputation among early modern readers. Teika’s distinctive calligraphy plays a prominent role in his posthumous fame.
