Full textThe present research work is carried out with the objective of sustaining the viability of a business project, which consists of providing the cleaning and repair service of all types of footwear. This business proposal is carried out thinking about the need of a large part of the population, who have stored shoes, as well as in poor condition and who do not have the time available to give them an adequate cleaning. In this sense, we opted for the shoe cleaning and repair service, a service that will be provided in a delivery manner, providing comfort, security and accessibility to customers. For this, a complete analysis of the external, internal and industry environment was carried out, in order to determine some business difficulties and identify those opportunities that allow us to develop strategies and develop the objectives set. Subsequently, a market research will be carried out in order to collect information, using qualitative as well as quantitative methodology to conclude and obtain data that will serve us in the validation of the hypothesis raised. In addition, a marketing plan will be prepared for the design of strategies, as well as an operations plan and organizational structure of human resources. Finally, a financial economic plan will be developed in which all the economic information, economic projections and financing of our business plan will be analyzed, which will help us determine the viability of the project.

Full textRECCO is a company that develops rescue system for avalanche accidents. The system works by a RFID tag (reflector) and a detector. The detector senses the reflector that is attached to jackets, helmets, shoes and ski boots up to 200 meters or 30 meters through the snow. The detector is used by experienced avalanche rescue groups. RECCO will implement reflectors in hiking shoes to search for people who are in the woods and in the mountains. The purpose of this master theses is to develop a shoe test machine to be able to test the service life of the reflector. The background study was performed by an information search about the biomechanics of the leg and foot, different leg movements that may affect the shoe, different types of hiking shoes and several shoe test machines available on the market today. The implementation of the project began with a test to examine how large the forces are on the reflector acting in the shoe. The test was conducted by a pressure sensitive sensor connected to an Arduino UNO. The maximum force on the reflector was 7.1 N. This was followed by a brainstorming session that resulting in seven different concepts. The concepts were then evaluated against each other using a PUGH matrix, which resulted in a concept for further development. The analysis was conducted using SolidWorks, Matlab, and ADAMS. Detailed drawings and assembly of the model were made using SolidWorks. The calculations were made on bearing housings, plain bearings, linear ball bearing and the motor using Matlab. ADAMS was used to simulate the movement and to verify the Matlab calculations. The result of the final concept was succeeded. The machine's movement and the influencing forces on the reflector mimic the performed test that was made at the beginning of the project. Improvements that can be done is to change to a more powerful motor to achieve a more constant speed or a flywheel to reduce the strain on the motor. For further work RECCO can program a switch that turns off the motor when the number of cycles are achieved.

Toscano Oliveros, Cristina [Parte I Análisis estratégico y de mercado], Molina Acuña, Hernán [Parte II Análisis organizativo-financiero]

Full textThe community structures of three shore types namely: "mixed shores" (those where rocky and sandy-shore habitats are intermixed), pure rocky shores and pure sandy beaches in False Bay, South Africa are compared in this study. Four habitats were identified - pure rock (unaffected by sand), mixed rock (rock affected by sand), mixed sand (sand between emergent rocks) and pure sand (beaches with no emergent rock) - representing a gradation from pure rock to pure sandy beaches. The specific aims of this study were to: (1) Sample quantitatively and describe macrofaunal communities on mixed shores in False Bay; (2) make direct comparisons among both the four types of habitats and three types of shores; and (3) test the hypothesis that sand inundation increases diversity at both habitat (a-diversity) and shore (diversity) level. The biological communities of mixed shores are described in terms of species composition, trophic organisation and zonation. Mixed-shore zonation patterns are different from those previously described for pure rocky shores in the region. The ability of Charomytilus meridiana/is and inability of patellid limpets and various algae, to withstand sand inundation are largely responsible for these differences.

Full texts method of mean comparison test is carried out to compare the basic dispatching rules. From the results of statistical analysis, it is concluded that the effects of basic truck dispatching rules on the system performance are not significant. But, the main factors affecting the performances are the number of trucks, the number of shovels, the distance between the shovels and dump site, finally the availability of shovel and truck resources. Also, there are significant interaction effects between these main factors. Finally, an adaptive rule using the standardized utilization of shovels and trucks is developed.

Gibbons, M. J. "Studies on the meiofauna of rocky shores." Doctoral thesis, University of Cape Town, 1988. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/8410.
Full textAnnual macrofaunal and meiofaunal standing stocks were estimated on an exposed rocky shore along the west coast of False Bay, South Africa, using comparable area based sampling techniques. While meiofaunal densities exceeded those of macrofauna in all zones, by an overall ratio of approximately 400:1, macrofaunal biomass exceeded that of meiofauna by an overall ratio of 10:1. The numbers of meiofauna were not evenly distributed across the shore but varied with the algal standing stocks in each zone and their sediment load. By incorporating turnover ratios from the literature, mean annual productivity ratios were calculated which suggested that meiofauna were responsible for 25 of total (excluding bacterial) secondary production. To follow this up, the impact of wave exposure on the meiofauna of one species of alga (viz. Gelidium pristoides) was examined on five shores around False Bay. Meiofaunal densities (dominated by animals between 63um-280um) were significantly greater on sheltered than exposed shores. As the minimum width of Gelidium fronds exceeds that of these permanent meiofauna, and tufts offer little resistance to wave action, only those individuals living in the dense, holdfast region of plants could escape the impact of waves on exposed shores. Total meiofaunal biomass per plant remained constant irrespective of shore type, due to the greater numbers of juvenile bivalves and amphipods on exposed shores. Algal and herbivore biomass were not significantly different between shore types around False Bay and therefore, the proportional contribution by meiofauna to total secondary production on sheltered shores was predicted to be greater than on exposed shores, where the biomass of macrofaunal filter feeders was very high. It has previously been argued that differences in meiofaunal communities between plant species are a result of differential surface area, number of habitats and refugia from predation. The possible fate of meiofaunal productivity as food for higher trophic levels (fish) and the mediating role played by algal complexity was investigated in a series of carefully designed laboratory and field experiments.

Full textUltra high energy cosmic ray composition is crucial to determine their source. Current techniques measure it with a limited duty cycle of 10%. The EASIER project (Extensive Air Shower Identification using Electron Radiometer) is a radio detection system integrated with the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory. Its goal is the measurement of the mass composition at high energy via the observation of the electromagnetic profile of air showers with a 100% duty cycle. The principle of EASIER was applied in the VHF band (30-80 MHz) in which a coherent signal was already observed and in the C band (3. 4-4. 2 GHz) in which an isotropic emission is expected. A large part of this thesis describes the development and calibration of the experimental setups in both bands. The installation of 7 detectors in the VHF band led to the detection of 36 events. Their characteristics indicate an emission beamed around the shower axis with a characteristic distance of the order of 200m for vertical showers. In the C band, 7 detector units were installed and led to the first detection of a radio signal in this band. The extension to 61 units raised the number of candidates to 4, all detected at distances to the shower axis lower than 300m. The comparison with simulations allowed us to set limits on the parameters of an isotropic emission. The distances of detection are limited by the emission mechanism and are up to now too small to fulfil EASIER goals. Improvements are underway to lower the sensitivity in both bands

Full textThe purpose of this project is to prepare and help ShoesCloset company for international business activity, namely in Germany. After having a careful study on the core foundation of the company I conclude that ShoesCloset has indeed potential to succeed by offering what the target segment is looking for in footwear. Nevertheless, the firm still has to improve in areas such as marketing, management operations, distribution channels and internal structure. In relation to the German market and according to my studies the best mode of entry is through direct exports, which would be under the supervision of the CEO. Moreover, it is imperative to increase the productive capacity in order to satisfy both national and international expected demands.
