Slow shot velocity and its acceleration phase in the shot sleeve have great influence on the flow pattern of the liquid metal in the shot sleeve. In this paper, a three-dimensional model based on the SOLA-VOF algorithm was developed and used to simulate the flow of melt in the shot sleeve. The mathematical model was verified by water analog experiments with constant plunger velocities. Based on numerical simulation results, the influences of the plunger acceleration on the wave profile of the liquid metal in the shot sleeve under different fill ratios and sleeve diameters were investigated. The objective of this study was to find the optimum process variables for minimizing the amount of air entrapped within the shot sleeve during the slow shot phase of the injection process. To achieve this objective, the relations between process variables (e.g., plunger speed/acceleration, initial filling percentage, sleeve diameter, etc.) and the wave formation within the shot sleeve of a die casting machine have to be determined. For this purpose, a mathematical model has been developed to study the transient wave formation in shot sleeve. The model based on the theory of waves of finite amp

Due to the high velocity of the molten metal during the injection phase, the die casting of aluminum is so complex and it is almost impossible to calculate these exact performances. There is strong and consistent epidemiological evidence that short sleep duration is associated with increased risk of obesity from early childhood. Childhood obesity and inadequate sleep have negative consequences for health and well-being, and the ability to target both of these public health concerns with a novel obesity intervention involving sleep extension is appealing; yet little is known about the mechanisms linking short sleep with obesity. In adults, hormonal mechanisms have been proposed; in young children, behavioural mechanisms and parenting are likely to be involved. Furthermore,

There is a frequent need in the transmission industry to modify pipe work by welding on additional pipes and branches to existing pipelines. It is very expensive to shut down the pipeline during this operation, and it is therefore, customary to make these welds onto live pipelines. This procedure must be done with great care, since a burn through would allow the leak of pressurized products. However, a greater problem is the rapid cooling of any weld due to the high heat sink effect of the flowing gas. In ferritic steel pipelines, this can lead to excessive hardening of the heat-affected zone
