Abstract:
According to the problems which are relay protection is difficult to adjust and when line fault occurs it will easily get override trip in the underground 6 kV power supply system in Gu Shu-yuan Coal Mine. This paper presents a centralized selective short circuit and leakage protection system. Which focuses on the analysis of the short circuit longitudinal differential protection, based on pattern recognition method of single-phase earth leakage protection principle, and completes the rapidity and selectivity of the leakage fault line selection . Through the simulation, experimental and field operation shows that the schemes can effectively improve the reliability and safety of high voltage power supply system in Gu Shu-yuan Coal Mine ,it also establishes the necessary foundation of the goal of "network relay protection" in high voltage power supply system for in China.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper offers a re-evaluation of the significance of porcelain during the Yuan dynasty by analyzing a type of ceramics known as luanbai or shufu wares. These matt white porcelains, sometimes inscribed with the characters shu and fu, have generally been seen as official wares, manufactured on the orders of the highest echelons of the Yuan central government and classified as high-quality luxury wares associated with the imperial court. This paper proposes that this conventional interpretation is misleading. Instead of understanding luanbai wares as part of the narrative of ceramics manufacture and the history of porcelain, I explore their relevance by situating them in the context of Yuan-dynasty material culture more broadly, court-sponsored craft manufactures, and the practice of inscribing objects. This approach reveals a different story, highlighting the absence of court control over ceramic production, the ensuing freedom to experiment locally with new ceramic production methods, and the significance of the demands of consumers in territories outside Yuan China.

Abstract:
AbstractThe early depictions of the transition from the Han 漢 (25-220) to the Wei dynasty 魏 (220-265) are surprisingly diverse. Within a span of less than two hundred years, several historians arrived at different views on the event’s legitimacy and as a result described it in widely varying tones. This is still visible in the dynastic histories: while Chen Shou’s 陳壽 (233-297) Sanguo zhi 三國志 paints the picture of the establishment of a legitimate dynasty, Fan Ye 范曄 (398-446) in his Hou Han shu 後漢書 describes a ruthless overthrow of the Han court by Cao Cao 曹操 (155-220) and his son Cao Pi 曹丕 (187-226).

Abstract:
Thesis (M.C.P.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Urban Studies and Planning, 2003.
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 83-89).
This thesis seeks to examine the extent of the role that the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) played in Taiwan's high-technological development and whether developing countries of today can promote such development by creating similar institutional arrangements. Literature on innovation systems was reviewed, particularly national innovation systems and the role of R&D institutions within these. Taiwan's recent economic success, deemed attributable to economic and institutional reforms in recent decades, was also studied. In depth analysis was carried out of its leading high-technological research institute, ITRI, which bridges the gap between industry and academia. Although the case of Taiwan is sometimes presented as a unique example of industrial success of an SME-based state, this thesis argues that this success was possible because the research and development process had a large institute at its core. One way of creating such a research scale is by merging existing institutes, a process that would result in more efficient use of capital and human resources. The case of high-technological development in Pakistan is briefly assessed in order to gauge how its existing institutions structure could be amended to allow such changes to be made. The study concludes with the following three main points: (i) scale is an important factor: Taiwan's SME-based industry was able to succeed because of a large research institute at its core; (ii) in developing countries, governments decide which form of high-technology to pursue and when; thus, timing and choice of sector are important; and (iii) political leadership was seen to be important in the case of Taiwan's development in high-technology, and can play a key role in developing countries of today.

Lau, Ling-yee Liny, and 劉令始. "Wind and water of two villages : investigating a possible connection between fungshui and prosperity of two villages in Ping Shan : the case of Hang Tau Tsuen and Hang Mei Tsuen." Thesis, The University of Hong Kong (Pokfulam, Hong Kong), 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10722/208064.

Full text
Abstract:
As someone who have studied Fungshui and offers Fungshui advice, I am aware that the collective success of a village is often qualified, traditionally, by the number of wealthy landlords, accomplished scholars, illustrious officials, male offspring, and long-life people. In modern times, the attribution to good Fungshui in a village is similar: by the number of rich businessmen and landowners, accomplished professionals, high-ranking government officials and high-profile celebrities. The emphasis is still on men, even though there are more clanswomen and many successful clanswomen. Based on this notion of attributing the success of clansmen to good Fungshui, I wonder if this could provide a means of measuring how “good” is good Fungshui of a village. The Tang clan is one of the five great clans (i.e. Tang, Hau (侯), Pang (彭), Liu (廖) and Man (文)) residing in Hong Kong. Since the migration and settlement of the family to Ping Shan in the 12th Century by the 92nd generation ancestor Tang Yuen-ching (鄧元禎) with his son Tang Chung-kwong (alias Tang Man-lei) (鄧從光, 字萬里), the Tang clan of Ping Shan has been evolved for more than 800 years with a long period of economic prosperity and social achievements. Many villagers in Ping Shan attribute this success to good Fungshui in and around the villages. In what ways does Fungshui contribute to the economic and social success in villages in Ping Shan? How can this seemingly unmeasurable Fungshui qualification of success in Ping Shan be measured in more concrete terms? These are the research questions for this dissertation. This is an investigative research into the land and the people of villages in Ping Shan, with focus on tracing notable clansmen from past to present as a measure of the reputed good Fungshui of the land. It is with my interest in heritage and my lifelong dedication to the understanding of Fungshui that I attempt this unconventional research in making a connection between two pedagogies – the intangible cultural heritage of Fungshui and the cultural landscape of Ping Shan. The place Ping Shan, after all, is where I grew up, and this is a place to which I have strong emotional attachment. As such, I feel obligated to find out more about Ping Shan. I did not know the outcome of the research, and my expectation was that even if I did not find the connection, I would at least find out more about the history of the people and the geography of the place and contribute towards the understanding of the cultural landscape of two villages in Ping Shan.

Abstract:
Chapter 6 explores the contrasting evidence for activity spanning the Han, Six Dynasties–Tang, and Song–Yuan periods at Sha Po. The study of structural remains and artefactual evidence associated with Sha Po’s Six Dynasties–Tang kiln-based coastal industry is supported by the results of a programme of thermoluminescence dating of kiln remains. Collectively, the evidence suggests that Sha Po was a planned and imperially controlled kiln complex directed towards the production of salt, with lime as a process-related by-product. In a pattern typical across Hong Kong, the industry’s post-abandonment phase is associated with Northern Song and some Southern Song–Yuan ceramics.

Abstract:
This chapter explores Shou-Wu Zhang's minicourse on Faltings heights and L-functions. It essentially consists of three parts. The first part discusses conjectures and results in the literature which give bounds, or formulae in terms of L-functions, for “Faltings heights.” The authors also mention various applications of such conjectures and results. The second part is devoted to the work of Yuan–Zhang in which they proved the averaged Colmez conjecture. Here, the authors detail the main ideas and concepts used in their proof. The third part focuses on the work of Yuan–Zhang in the function field world. Therein they compute special values of higher derivatives of certain automorphic L-functions in terms of self-intersection numbers of Drinfeld–Heegner cycles on the moduli stack of shtukas. The result of Yuan–Zhang might be viewed as a higher Gross–Zagier/Chowla–Selberg formula in the function field setting. The authors then motivate and explain the philosophy that Chowla–Selberg type formulae are special cases of Gross–Zagier type formulae coming from identities between geometric and analytic kernels.

In ASME 2002 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences and Computers and Information in Engineering Conference. ASMEDC, 2002. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/detc2002/edc-34382.

Abstract:
It is generally believed that the first escapement regulator invented is the waterwheel steelyard-clepsydra device made in ancient China by Su Song during the Northern Song Dynasty (960~1,127 AD). The device, which was a unique feature of the ancient Chinese escapement regulators, was used in Su’s famous clock tower, Shui Yun Yi Xiang Tai (Water-Powered Armillary Sphere and Celestial Globe). Evidence found in certain historical literature, however, suggests that the astronomical clocks made before the Northern Song Dynasty were also equipped with escapement regulators. But due to insufficient literature on the specific design of the devices and the fact that none of the earlier escapement regulators have been recovered, it has been very difficult to recreate the original mechanism design. Therefore, in view of this problem, we wish to present a reconstruction design procedure for the ancient machinery in this paper. By combining the innovative mechanism design methodology with the mechanical evolution and variation theory, we can systematically recreate all feasible and appropriate designs that are consistent with the science theories and techniques of the subject time period. In this paper, the waterwheel steelyard-clepsydra device made by Su Song was adopted as the original design for the reconstruction of ancient Chinese escapement regulators. Utilizing the procedure proposed in this paper, the reconstruction designs we recreated included 12 six-bar and eight-joint waterwheel steelyard-clepsydra devices, among which 10 were with four-bar linkages and 2 were with rope-and-pulley mechanisms. These results can be further used in the study of ancient Chinese mechanical clocks, especially in reconstruction research.
