Abstract:
AbstractMany scholars have noted the linguistic links and similarities in content between the books of Esther and Jonah, and other biblical books. Some scholars have raised the possibility of a connection between Jonah and Esther themselves. This article will focus on establishing some further points of contact between these two books by comparing the descriptions of the fasting and mourning in Shushan (Esther 4) and Nineveh (Jonah 3). The mourning depicted in both Esther and Jonah should be understood as a petitionary mourning. As I shall demonstrate, there are many points of contact in plot, content and language related to the expressions of mourning in both texts. I will suggest that by creating links between these descriptions, the author of the book of Esther hints at some theological and moral implications that lack in its explicit text.

Abstract:
Recent national and international demand for additional resources of the fossil fuel resulted in extensive hydrocarbon exploration activities in Egypt to further explore possible petroliferous rock units that were conventionally deemed as barren or having non- commercial reserves such as the Alam El Bueib Formation. This increased the stress to enrich the lithological correlation of this formation across the north Western Desert to better understand its regional lithological characteristics and thus its potential regional reservoir/source rock quality. Palynostratigraphic analysis of Lower Cretaceous successions in the Tut-1X and Amoun-1X wells in the Shushan Basin, north Western Desert enabled the recognition of the upper Alam El Bueib Formation in both wells, in contrast to a previous study, which suggested non-deposition of this formation in the Amoun-1X well. This highlights the important role of the palynology as a key stratigraphic tool, which helped effectively in recognising this problematic monotone clastic formation, where other marine microfossils are lacking. This also shows that recognition of this formation based on lithological criteria only was impractical and misleading. Marker terrestrial and marine palynomorph taxa recovered from the upper Alam El Bueib Formation enabled dating it as late Barremian– early Aptian and were used to identify two palynological biozones that can be traced out regionally across the Shushan, Matruh, and other nearby basins. These biozones are the early Aptian Murospora florida – Afropollis operculatus – Pseudoceratium securigerum Assemblage Zone and the late Barremian Stellatopollis barghoornii – Pseudoceratium anaphrissum– Cyclonephelium vannophorum Assemblage Zone. An undifferentiated interval was recorded just below the upper Barremian strata in the Tut-1X well due to very low palynomorph recovery and absence of marker forms. Composition of terrestrial and marine palynomorph assemblages suggests the upper Alam El Bueib Formation was deposited in fluviodeltaic to proximal inner shelf settings. The Alam El Bueib Formation shows notable regional variations in thickness and considerable lateral and verti- cal changes in lithology due to local tectonics and relative difference in its depositional settings in the Shushan and Matruh basins. Regionally, the Alam El Bueib Formation shows dual reservoir/source rock characteristics, where thick and poorly fossiliferous sandstone units act as reservoir rocks, while moderately fossiliferous finer clastics and carbonates already acted as intraformational source rock intervals in some parts of the Shushan and Matruh basins.

Abstract:
A quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay was developed that could detect DNA of Rhabdocline pseudotsugae and R. oblonga among DNA of Douglas fir needles to a limit as low as three copies of target DNA. Differential infection rates of two varieties (seed sources) of Douglas fir interplanted in a field were studied in relation to staggered bud breaks. Infection of Douglas fir var. San Isabel corresponded to ascospore release times for Rhabdocline spp., whereas infection of var. Shuswap Lake did not occur throughout the spore release period during 2 years of study, despite abundant inoculum and adequate moisture during bud break. Rhabdocline spp. DNA was never detected in Shuswap Lake and disease symptoms were not observed in any year. We provide evidence that Shuswap Lake is resistant and probably immune to Rhabdocline spp. infection and Rhabdocline needlecast under Michigan conditions.

Abstract:
The Shuswap core complex records Mesozoic and Paleocene crustal shortening with superimposed Eocene extension. During the shortening phase the crust was thickened and slowly uplifted. Within at most 20 Ma of the climax of compression, the crustal welt was rapidly uplifted and tectonically denuded.Shortening of the continental crust may be balanced in the underlying lithosphere by thickening or underplating, forming in either case a lithospheric root beneath the crustal welt. We consider a model whereby Tertiary crustal extension in the Shuswap core complex, and possibly also in other segments of the North American Cordillera, is accounted for by the detachment of this root. Both the time frame and the stress field resulting from the detachment are compatible with geological and geophysical observations. Far-field stresses played an accommodating role, but the potential energy required for extension of the Shuswap complex was induced by lithospheric thickening.

Abstract:
Shusha is a very valuable historical, town-planning, architectural and natural monument. This is one of the richest with architectural monuments cities in Azerbaijan. Shusha was not only the administrative, but also the cultural and economic center of Karabakh. Many remarkable cultural figures of Azerbaijan - composers, singers, musicians, poets - were born and raised here. Built by Panahali Khan 250 years ago, Shusha is the largest monument of history, culture, urban planning and architecture of Azerbaijan, an open- air museum, which was protected as a historical and architectural reserve. The unique town-planning system of the city of Shusha is characterized by a combination of separate quarters, typical for eastern cities. As a result of the occupation of the territory of Karabakh for about 30 years, the medieval city of Shusha, which has a peculiar urban structure, was half destroyed, despite the fact that before the start of the war, the ancient quarters and numerous historical and architectural monuments were in excellent condition. In the fall of 2019, the staff and students of the Faculty of Architecture of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction had launched the project “Urban Development and Restoration of the Historical and Architectural Heritage of the town of Shusha”, dedicated to the study of the historical past, architectural monuments, and the unique urban structure of this pearl of Azerbaijani architecture. The need to collect a large number of archival materials, the difficulty in finding them, since Shusha was occupied, as well as the fact that the project was developed by students in their free time, led to the fact that the work was completed at the end of 2020. The project, launched at the request of the students and presented to the general public a few weeks ago, also includes proposals for the urban development of the city and the restoration of individual architectural monuments. This article talks about the historical and current state of the city of Shusha, examines various aspects of the historical development of the city associated with the formation of the urban structure, architectural monuments, explores the problems of restoration of individual objects. Some preliminary designs of monument restorations carried out by students within the framework of the above project are given.

Abstract:
“Good-hearted person” is referred to a personality with good morals, who is fair, decent and neat. In order to raise a good hearted person, or for a person to have good virtues, it is necessary to mention the significance or sublimity of these values. When asked how is raised a person with morals in Japan, İnazo Nitobe stated that what teaches these values are Bushido warrior codes. With Confucianism prevailing in Edo period (1603-1868), Shushin education taught how to do good deed. Confucius’ work “Daigaku” specifies four main factors for the ruling of the country: These can be explained as “Shushin” (self-nurturing), “Seika” (family nurturing), “Chikoku” (protecting the homeland) and “Heitenka” (endless respect for the Emperor). Prior to the World War II many values of good morals have been a part of Shushin education and since the first grade of the primary school was taught how to become a good Japanese. In 1945, Shushin education was ceased by the Allied Forces. In the 1960’s, considering that they lost Japaneseness and Japanese soul in their character, the Japanese made three month Seishin (spirituality) education mandatory for every employee. In the present day Japan, Dōtoku (Moral Knowledge Course) is provided from the primary to high school. As work life starts this education continues with Kyöyö (Workplace Training) journals. This study is an analysis of Dōtoku coursebooks and some workplace journals.

Full text
Abstract:
Seismic reflection techniques show an imperative role in imaging complex geological structures and are becoming more acceptable as data interpreting tools in 2D/3D view. These subsurface geological structures provide complex seismic signature due to their geometrical behavior. Consequently, it is extremely difficult to interpret these seismic sections in terms of subsurface configuration. The main goal of this paper is to introduce seismic attributes as a powerful tool to interpret complex geological structures in different geological settings. In order to image these complex geological features, multiple seismic attributes such as coherence and curvature have been applied to the seismic data generated over the Shushan Basin (Egypt) and Arkoma Basin (USA). Each type of geological structure event usually generates a unique seismic “signature” that we can recognize and identify by using these seismic attributes. In Shushan Basin (Egypt), they provide a framework and constraint during the interpretation and can help prevent mistakes during a 3D structural modeling. In Arkoma Basin (USA), the seismic attributes results provide useful information for broader analyses of the complex structural relations in the region where the Ouachita orogenic belt intersects with the southern Oklahoma aulacogen. Finally, complex geological structures provide dramatically diacritical seismic signatures that can be easily interpreted by collaborating conventional seismic interpretation techniques with multiple seismic attributes.

Abstract:
Parasites were examined in 41 annual samples of sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) juveniles originating from lakes in British Columbia: Chilko and Shuswap. Nine species of parasitic helminths and two species of parasitic Crustacea were recovered from various organs. The number of species ranged from three to nine per year. Most (94%) parasites belonged to three tapeworm species, identified as core to the parasite community because they also infected the most hosts. Two of these cestode species are probably maintained by resident freshwater hosts in the lakes. Positive numerical associations were observed between four parasite species pairs. Parasite communities in both lakes were composed of similar species, with the exception of three rare Chilko Lake species that were never recovered from Shuswap Lake. Parasites were often as variable within stock (temporally) as between stocks (geographically), except for the prevalence of Eubothrium sp. and Neoechinorhynchus sp. and mean annual intensity of Proteocephalus sp. and encysted digenetic metacercariae, which were greater at Chilko Lake than at Shuswap Lake. Discrimination between the two lakes based on their parasite community is possible only in extreme cases of infection and thus is of limited use to fisheries officers attempting to distinguish between these stocks.

Full text
Abstract:
A crustal cross section through the Omineca belt at the latitude of the Trans-Canada Highway has been drawn to satisfy available surface geological information and Lithoprobe seismic data from this part of the Cordilleran hinterland. Palinspastic restoration of Tertiary normal-sense shear zones leads to the conclusion that the Omineca belt at latitude 51°N was extended in the Eocene by approximately 45 km, 20–25% of the width of the belt. It is shown that the Okanagan–Eagle River fault, which defines the western margin of the Shuswap metamorphic core complex, is likely to have accommodated approximately 30 km of displacement. Restoration of this fault and of 15 km displacement on the Columbia River fault (eastern margin of the Shuswap complex) juxtaposes upper-crustal rocks with similar stratigraphic, structural, and metamorphic characteristics and indicates that the crust was over 50 km thick prior to Eocene extension. Comparison of the crustal geometry in the present and restored sections suggests that extensional strain was partitioned such that the upper crust was most highly attenuated above the central Shuswap complex, whereas the lower crust was most greatly stretched beneath the Intermontane and western Omineca belts.

Abstract:
Our culture allows us to quantify death with precise statistics. We know that at least a million Americans so far have lost their lives to Covid-19. We have the daily numbers of mass killings in the United States; of those killed at the hands of Vladimir Putin’s criminal war; of deaths due to starvation, specific diseases, obesity, psychosis, suicide, and so on. There are new technologies that claim they will be able to predict exactly when we will die from natural causes. And so on. What seems completely absent are platforms that entertain rational discussion of what exactly death and dying are, what they mean. What happens to a person when he or she dies? Why so silent about this fundamental question? It turns out there is a small subculture of serious investigators curious about reports and conceptual issues that speak to this question. Gregory Shushan’s book, The Next World: Extraordinary Experiences of the Afterlife is an original treatment of the subject, as wide-ranging in thought and feeling as it is rigorous and scholarly.

Abstract:
Reconstruction, restoration and preservation of the historical cities of Azerbaijan is one of the urgent problems of modern architecture. Among them, one of the most interesting cities is Shusha, which was declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2023. In the presented article, for your attention are some notes about imarets (palaces), the genetic roots of which date back to folk housing. Historically, palaces - villas and palace complexes were built in medieval Azerbaijan. The construction of palaces was carried out in cities, no fewer of them were in the suburbs, their choice was due to the urban situation, the landscape of the area, the presence of a river, a lake.

Abstract:
Nine zircon and 18 apatite fission-track ages are used to determine the low-temperature cooling history of part of the Shuswap metamorphic core complex of the Canadian Cordillera. The zircon ages range from 54 to 38 Ma and the apatite ages from 49 to 28 Ma. These ages reveal a similarity in cooling histories across the Shuswap units until temperatures of ~250°C were reached at about 45 Ma. From this time onwards, the regional cooling pattern within the core complex was controlled by the relative movements on two normal faults, the Victor Creek fault and the Columbia River fault. Cooling since 45 Ma was variable, depending on the structural level of the sample. On this basis four thermotectonic units are defined. These units are controlled by normal faults that crosscut the lithological units of the core complex and reflect the latest stage of its evolution.

Higgs, Alice. "‘Unsettling Coyote: Engaging with Indigenous Canadian Theories of Eco-Sexuality in Gail Anderson-Dargatz’s The Cure for Death by Lightning (1996)’." Journal of Australian, Canadian, and Aotearoa New Zealand Studies 1, no. 1 (June 11, 2021): 78–110. http://dx.doi.org/10.52230/bcms7029.

Abstract:
This article argues that The Cure for Death by Lightning is a novel that attempts to make a meaningful and serious engagement with the Shuswap figure of Coyote. In doing so it raises vital questions regarding the extent to which a settler writer can and should appropriately engage with an Indigenous story. Through a focus on both the material animals in the novel, such as domesticated farm animals and the wild coyotes of the bush, and also the representation of Coyote and the Shuswap characters, this article will argue that Anderson-Dargatz encourages a re-evaluation of the way in which we engage with non-human animals, introducing an eco-sexual framework that encourages empathy and kinship with all beings. By using Kim TallBear’s (Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate) and Melissa K. Nelson’s (Anishinaabe/Métis) definition of eco-sexuality, it will argue that the novel pushes for the centring of Indigenous knowledge in building more sustainable relations with animals. However, it will also acknowledge that despite this eco-sexual engagement, the novel ultimately still continues to centre the settler experience in its narrative, encapsulating and enacting a form of displacement in its very construction. By treading this fine line between an attempted serious engagement with Shuswap culture and questions of cultural appropriation, the novel is an example of the notion that it is imperative that settler literature must engage and destabilize the types of oppressive hierarchies that underpin both species and settler-Indigenous relations, namely settler-sexuality and anthropocentrism, if settler culture is to follow.

ABSTRACT This article is a comparative close reading of two poems, one from the nineteenth century by Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, the other a dramatic monologue from the twentieth century by Anne Spencer. The poems both deal with the abuse of patriarchal power in the story of Queen Vashti, contextualizing the story in both centuries, showing how, with masks firmly in place, women writers delivered powerful messages of protest to the male communities using an ancient story that speaks powerfully to their present as well as ours.

Arxeoloji irs tarixi yaddaşın mühüm mənbəyidir. Arxeoloji obyektlərin sayı zaman keçdikcə azalır. Arxeoloji abidələrin dağıdılmasına insan və texnogen faktorlar böyük təsir göstərir. Azərbaycan xalqının arxeologiyasının öyrənilməsində tarix və mədəniyyət abidələrinin rolu böyükdür. XIX əsrin ikinci yarısından Azərbaycanın mədəni dəyərləri Azərbaycanın tarixi abidələri və toponimləri xarici alim və səyyahların diqqətini cəlb etmişdir. Bununla yanaşı, Azərbaycan alim və tədqiqatçılarının ölkəmizin arxeoloji irsinin öyrənilməsinə, qorunub saxlanmasına, tədqiqinə və təbliğinə verdiyi töhfə böyükdür. Tarixi informasiyanı özündə daşıyan arxeoloji abidələr zamanın sınağından çıxaraq zənginləşən, nəsildən-nəsilə bir yadigar kimi ötürülən ən qiymətli xəzinələrdən biridir. Archaeological heritage is an important source of historical memory. The number of archaeological sites decreases over time. The destruction of archaeological monuments is greatly influenced by human and man-made factors. The role of historical and cultural monuments in the study of the archaeology of the Azerbaijani people is great. Since the second half of the 19th century, Azerbaijan's cultural values, historical monuments and toponyms of Azerbaijan have attracted the attention of prominent Russian and foreign scholars and travellers. However, we must not forget the great work of Azerbaijani scientists and researchers, their contribution to the study, preservation, research and promotion of Azerbaijan's cultural heritage. Archaeological monuments, which reflect historical memories, are one of the most valuable treasures, enriched by the test of time and passed down from generation to generation as a memento. Highly appreciating the importance of archaeological monuments, our state has given specific tasks on the protection and restoration of archaeological monuments, as well as palace complexes, historical and architectural monuments, a set of comprehensive measures, and indicated the principles of working with individual items. Abstract:
Geological, isotopic, and geochronology studies carried out by university and government researchers, concurrently with the Lithoprobe program, have greatly refined our understanding of the regional geology, crustal structure, and tectonics of the Omineca Belt. Sound correlations have been established between surface geology and seismic reflection data. Cretaceous–Eocene thrust faults that are imaged in the subsurface in the Shuswap complex may be part of a break-forward thrust system that feeds into the Purcell Anticlinorium and the Foreland Belt. The Monashee décollement is the western continuation of the sole thrust beneath the Foreland Belt and provides a means of linking shortening across the entire orogen. The thermal peak of metamorphism in the central and southern Shuswap complex is now known to have occurred in the Late Cretaceous–Paleogene in contrast with earlier held views. North American basement rocks are now known to extend beneath the eastern half of the Canadian Cordillera. Geochronology studies have revealed Early Proterozoic and Late Cretaceous–Eocene metamorphism in basement rocks of the Monashee complex, and suggest that these rocks were located to the east of the metamorphic front throughout the Jurassic and Early Cretaceous. Anatectic peraluminous granites were produced in the Shuswap complex between 135 and 52 Ma in response to pulses of crustal thickening and heating, and in some cases served to localize Eocene extensional shear zones and to transfer extensional displacement from one shear zone to another. A flat Moho and other seismic reflection data are consistent with interpretations of lower crustal flow to balance early Tertiary extension in the upper crust. Crustal-scale extension and the Slocan Lake fault zone provided the source and setting for Ag–Pb–Zn–Au mineralization in the Nelson–Silverton area.

Abstract:
Eight day-neutral and seven short-day strawberry (Fragaria ×ananassa, Duch.) varieties were evaluated on raised beds during 1990 and 1991 in the Fraser River valley, B.C. Among day-neutral varieties in 1990, total variation in marketable yield originated in fruit count (26%), total yield (18%), average leaf size (22%), and runner count (19%) per plant. In 1991, total variation in marketable yield originated in fruit count (38%), runner count (23%), crown count (13%), and total yield (16%) per plant. `Selva' was one of the most productive day-neutral varieties and had the heaviest fruit and the fewest culls during both years of the study. The short-day varieties had uniformly low yields of marketable fruit during the establishment year, 1990. Variation in marketable yield in 1991 originated in runner count (34%), total yield (18%), and fruit count (16%) per plant. Of the short-day varieties in 1991, `Shuswap' had the highest marketable yield and, along with `Pajaro' and `Sequoia', had the fewest culls. `Shuswap' was a prolific producer of runners, while `Sumas' and `Redcrest' yielded well without prolific runner production.

Abstract:
In some but not all populations of sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) that mature mainly at age 4, there has been a persistently ``dominant'' line, a ``subdominant'' line about 10-25% as large, and two weak lines having less than 1% as many fish as the dominant one. Suggested causes of this phenomenon that have been shown to be wrong or inadequate are the presence of a few sockeye of ages 3 and 5 in the spawning stocks and a somewhat larger rate of harvest of the nondominant lines. The only plausible type of explanation that has been suggested so far involves interaction between the dominant line and the others, and the only specific example involves a 4-year cycle of abundance of a predacious fish at Shuswap Lake, described by F.J. Ward and P.A. Larkin. Other types of interaction are possible, but have not been documented. The magnitudes of the instantaneous interaction mortality rates at Shuswap Lake are estimated as about 0.78 per generation for the subdominant line out of a 7.65 total, and 1.11 out of 7.94 for the weak line 3, line 4 being similar.

İşğaldan azad olunmuş şəhərlərimiz üçün beynəlxalq praktikaya nə qədər müraciət və istinad edəcəyimiz bu gün sual altındadır. Əgər II dünya müharibəsi timsalını götürsək Avropa şəhərlərinin ən uzağı 5 il ərzində dağıntılara məruz qaldığını görəcəyik. Yaponiyanın bu tarixi şəraitdə də çox az bir zaman kəsiyində yerlə yeksan-tam dağılmış şəhərlərinin bərpasının tarixinin də şahidi olmuşuq. Lakin, keçən əsrin 90-cı illərində I Qarabağ müharibəsi dövründə baş vermiş müharibə fəsadları sonralar şəhərlərimiz üzərində 30 ilə yaxın müntəzəm dağılma ilə nəticələnmişdir. Bu illər arzində 2 regionumuzu bütünlüklə əhatə edən şəhərsalma problemlərinin həlli bizdən çox geniş və müddətli bərpa və yenidənqurma prinsiplərinə fərdi şəhərsalma yanaşması tələb edəcəkdir. Ümumilikdə qarşımızda aşağıdakı təxirəsalınmaz işlərə start verilməsini tələb edir: 1) İşğaldan əvvəl bu regionların ərazi və əhali sayı haqqında yeni təhlil və hesabatlar aparılmalıdır. 2) “Böyük qayıdış” prosesində potensial əhali sayının statistik məlumatları nəzərə alınmalıdır. 3) Şəhərlərin işğaldan əvvəlki şəhər təyinatları – dayaq, altmərkəzlər və s. yenidən təhlil olunmalıdır. Çünki, hər bir region, rayon şəhər planlaşdırılması öz layihə prosesinin başlanılmasında ilkin olaraq əhali sayına istinad edir. Regionun öz daxilində kənd və şəhər ərazilərində vahid iqtisadi bazanın yaradılması, torpaqlardan səmərəli istifadə, məhsuldar qüvvələrin bərabər paylanması prosesi üçün bu statistik məlumatın çox böyük önəmi vardır.
