Abstract:
Sibling rivalry is a form of relationship conflict with siblings that can affect individual development, both positively and negatively and give impact on the child, parents, and society. Puskesmas Kabila is one of the health centers in Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo, which has the lowest achievement of health services for children under five, namely 61.1% in 2019 and as many as 70% of mothers who have more than one toddler tend to experience sibling rivalry. This literature study aims to determine the factors associated with the behavior of sibling rivalry in toddlers. This literature study research was conducted by examining 13 literatures consisting of 8 journals and 5 books. The results will be analyzed descriptively. The independent variable in this study is the factors examined in research journal articles, while the dependent variable is the behavior of sibling rivalry in children under five. The research instrument used was a data table to make it easier to interpret the results of a literature study. The results of the literature study show that the factors associated with sibling rivalry include: parenting styles, emotional intelligence, parental knowledge, differences in gender and age as well as parents' attitudes towards children.

Abstract:
Toddler age is one of the age stages that occurs in the age range of 1 to 3 years. At this time, children will find it easier to learn and understand new things. Some children grow up with their siblings. The existence of these siblings often creates feelings of jealousy, anger, and fear in children, which feelings will lead to sibling rivalry. The negative impacts of sibling rivalry include the occurrence of tantrums in children, giving rise to a regression attitude, low self-efficacy, not wanting to share with siblings, and aggressive behavior both physically and verbally. Parents have an important role in preventing sibling rivalry, Erik Erikson in his theory explains that toddler-age children are entering a phase of autonomy vs shame. Where children begin to learn to be independent and have self-control over their own lives. The purpose of writing this article is to explain how the role that parents can play in preventing sibling rivalry in toddler age children is based on the perspective of Erik Erikson's theory of development. The method used in writing this article is a literature study by collecting several sources from research journal articles that are in accordance with the topics discussed. The result is that parents must provide understanding to the child that they will not lose attention and affection because of the presence of siblings, and continue to give full attention to toddler age children so that this stage can be successfully passed by the child, increasing parental knowledge about parenting patterns, characteristics children in each stage of growth and development, knowledge about sibling rivalry, the causes and ways to prevent and overcome sibling rivalry, and teach children how to channel emotions properly.

Abstract:
This analysis addresses ideas which, during the last century, developed around the relationship between literature and film as narrative arts. From a historical perspective, a description is provided about how these disciplines have confronted one another and how they have learned to coexist under the cloak of semantics as a regulator of the signification processes that both cinema and literature stimulate. Moreover, the article discusses the differences between these two art forms, particularly regarding “matters of expression,” highlighting the points of connection between the two in order to potentiate their comparative analysis.

Abstract:
While current research has begun to address parental influences on talent development in sport, sibling interaction remains relatively under-examined. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the underpinning mechanisms through which sibling interaction impacts on talent development. Retrospective phenomenological interviews were conducted with four sets of siblings ( n = 9), where at least one sibling had competed to an elite level. Findings revealed several higher order themes that impacted positively on the talented athletes’ development: regularity of interaction in sport, emotional interpersonal skills, rivalry, resilience, co-operation and separation. Separation appeared as the athlete reached elite status, suggesting that these former mechanisms primarily impact during the development phase. Such findings support and extend the sibling, elite sport and talent development literature and provide valuable insight for both practitioners and academics. Importantly, coaches should consider a sibling’s role as an important mechanism outside of the formal coaching structure for talent development.

Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to review recent literature and introduce a systemic approach to the nature of sibling relationships during the first years of life. A growing body of evidence suggests that siblings play considerable roles in each other’s development, and that the quality and the character of the sibling bond may have far-reaching effects. The present review elucidates the interactions between subsystems, particularly the functioning of the sibling subsystem; it also considers influences from other internal and external factors. It discusses siblinghood between children with regard to three main domains: warmth and support, rivalry and jealousy, and conflict. The final part of the article suggests some implications considering the influence of child siblinghood on adolescent and adult life.

Abstract:
This study addressed children's reports of self-disclosures to their siblings and best friends in early adolescence. Twenty-four boys and 22 girls in Grade 4 (<em>M </em>age = 9.48,<em> SD </em>= .59) and 19 boys and 28 girls in Grade 6 (<em>M</em> age = 11.15 years, <em>SD</em> = .55) were interviewed regarding disclosures to siblings and friends. They also completed the Sibling Relationship Questionaire (Furman &amp; Buhrmester, 1985b) and the Friendship Activity Questionaire (Bukowski, Hoza, &amp; Boivin, 1994) to rate the quality of each relationship. Participants were more likely to disclose peer, academic, and shared interest issues to friends than siblings. Boys reported discussing shared interests more frequently with both siblings and friends. Respondents who disclosed to their siblings also reported higher warmth, rivalry, and greater conflict in their sibling relationship. Early adolescents who did not disclose to their friends reported greater friendship conflict. Findingds are discussed in light of recent theory and empirical literature.

Abstract:
As academic literatures and political demands, global justice and populism look like competing ways of diagnosing and addressing neoliberal inequality. But both misunderstand neoliberalism and consequently risk reinforcing rather than undermining it. Neoliberalism does not just break down political and social hierarchies, but also relies on and sustains them. Unless populists recognize this, they will find that assertions of sovereignty do more to reinforce neoliberalism and reproduce its hierarchies than to resist them. Recognizing neoliberalism as not simply corrosive of solidarity but also producing its own affective ties suggests that global justice advocates need to develop a critique of individual attitudes that egalitarian liberals have often seen as private and been hesitant to judge. In short, if either populism or global justice hope to take advantage of neoliberalism’s failures to advance an egalitarian politics, they need to reckon more carefully with their own entanglement with neoliberalism’s hopes and hierarchies.

Moffett, Helen. "Rewriting Christina Rossetti : cross-gendered sibling rivalry, fraternal intervention and the counter-poetics of dissidence." Doctoral thesis, University of Cape Town, 1993. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/21974.

Abstract:
Bibliography: pages 355-372.
Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Michael Rossetti, paying especial attention to unravelling the received tradition that as an artist, Rossetti was indebted to Dante Gabriel's patronage. Instead, I argue that she negotiated her career as a poet against a covertly competitive backdrop of sibling rivalry, in which Dante Gabriel made strenuous efforts to direct and control her creative work. This thesis also examines and challenges the myths that William Michael set in motion as his sister's initial editor and biographer, and which still inform our perception of her as a poet and as a sister. I also investigate her standing regarding the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, a relation which is more problematic than is generally believed, maintaining that she was excluded from equal membership within this glamorous circle while simultaneously strategically important to them, both as a poet and a model. Clearly, the various misrepresentations of Rossetti's life and works are gendered. I employ the tools of feminist literary practice and new historicism in order to reveal the extent to which the treatment of Rossetti both by her brothers and various critics, has reflected patriarchal pressures and strictures. Primary manuscripts, some unpublished, or published in censored versions, are scrutinised and pieced together in an attempt to present a more accurate view of both Rossetti's relationships with the men in her life, and her own sense of herself as a poet. Close attention is also paid to the singularity of her personal history, which was underscored by her strong sense of poetic vocation. This attempt to rework the traditional picture of Christina Rossetti provides significant new perspectives on and readings of her canon, and her brother's. I trace patterns in her poetry which are related to her struggle for creative agency in the face of fraternal intervention, and propose a model of dialogic interrogation for re-reading significant texts. I conclude that a comparative study of intertextuality between the Rossettis contributes vitally to the further understanding of both poets.

Vallarino, Moncada Adriana. "Sibling rivalry in black-legged kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla)." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2008. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/200/.

Full text
Abstract:
Chicks of several species compete with their siblings for parental provisioning of resources and care. This competition is mainly manifested by begging or food hoarding and in only few species, as in the black-legged kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla) direct aggression between the offspring is present.. It has been proposed that the degree of asymmetries between the members of a brood influence the severity and outcome of this conflict. Several inequalities between the offspring have been identified (e.g. age, size, egg quality). First- hatched chicks (A) are older, larger and hatch from a different quality egg and size than second- hatched chicks (B). These inequalities provide different advantages to the chicks within a brood but their influence in sibling rivalry have not been widely tested. In the present thesis egg components of A and B eggs were analysed, comparisons of behaviour, survival and growth of chicks in two different years were made and egg size and quality were experimentally manipulated in order to test their importance in the sibling rivarly outcome of the black-legged kittiwake. In chapter II egg composition analyses of A- and B- eggs within a clutch were made. It was found that mothers allocated more carotenoids and less testosterone to A- eggs, while corticosterone, lipid and protein content did not differ, although A- eggs were 4% larger than B- eggs. In chapter III comparisons of behaviour, growth and survival between two environmentally different years were made. 2004 was a year with poor quality food whilst 2005 was a year with good food quality. The majority of second-hatched chicks in 2004 died before reaching 10 days of age and were all dead before 15 days while in 2005, more than 80% of second-hatched chicks fledged. Same behaviours were performed by A and B chicks in both years but the behavioural patterns did: aggression increased with age in 2004 while begging and feeding decreased in A and B chicks; these behaviours did not change with age in 2005. In chapter IV the influence of egg size on sibling rivalry was experimentally tested by eliminating age and egg quality differences within a brood and manipulating only the egg size differences. Comparisons of survival, growth and behaviour were made between experimental and control broods in which all the natural asymmetries were present. Differences in egg size determined which chick became dominant but these differences did not change the brood behaviour. Furthermore, experimental broods showed very different behaviour from control broods and the frequency of aggression was different between experimental broods formed by A- or B- eggs. In order to test if eggs are adapted for their hatching position, in chapter V an experimental manipulation of the brood composition was carried out and one of the clutch eggs’ was swapped to make it hatch in a different position from the one it was made to hatch. The natural asymmetries in age and egg size were maintained. Broods with two first-laid eggs were less aggressive than control broods and than broods with two second-laid eggs. If A- and B- chicks are specifically made for their hatching position, their stress response should differ when they were artificially made to hatch on the same position and exposed to a stressor. This was tested on chapter VI and it was found that second hatched chicks from A- and B eggs did not differ on their stress response when facing a handling-stress protocol. On each year, natural broods fledged in higher proportion than experimental ones, which indicates that asymmetries within a brood are adaptive. It seems that eliminating within brood asymmetries is costly for the parents and perhaps these differences are optimal for maintaining a high efficiency index for the parents in terms of the amount of investment and the number of fledged chicks. Thus apparently, the main asymmetry influencing sibling rivalry is the difference in age of the offspring caused by hatching asynchronously.

Lokaj, Rodney John. "Petrarch vs. Gherardo : a case of sibling rivalry inside and outside the cloister." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2001. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/23092.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis analyses the relationship between Petrarch and his brother, the Carthusian monk, Gherardo, as described in the De otio religioso and the Rerum familiarium libri. I take Petrarch and his brother as literary constructs representative, respectively, of early humanistic poetics and traditional asceticism. This new methodological approach integrates certain areas of critical endeavour which have traditionally remained excluded from main-stream Petrarch studies. My reading of the De otio inverts current interpretations inasmuch as it sees the work not as praise of 'pre-humanistic monasticism', but rather as a denunciation of Carthusian otium. Such intellectual inertia does not lead the monks back to God but turns them into instruments of the devil. Petrarch tries to rectify this stance by teaching the Carthusians about otium litteratum (imitatio, classical learning which 'spices' Christian learning, callidae iuncturae, etc.) and by challenging the validity of certain values (e.g. the Carthusian definition of religion, happiness, etc.). My reading of the Familiares presents the sub-group concerning Gherardo (called the 'gerardine' letters or cycle) as yet another way of rectifying the situation. I interpret the Ventoux letter (Fam., IV 1) as both a cryptic allegorisation of Gherardo's initial position, and a fictitious, anachronistic anticipation or summary of the aims of the gerardine sub-group. That is, in the Ventoux letter Gherardo is excluded from Petrarch's direct reading of St Augustine. The gerardine cycle then constitutes an accessus ad Augustinum whereby Petrarch teaches his brother about poetics, law, history, philosophy and theology. The accessus ends with the Familiaris XVIII 5 accompanying a copy of the Confessions. That is, the gerardine cycle closes when Gherardo is ready to read Augustine for himself. The gerardine cycle thus affords a glimpse into the structural strategies used by Petrarch in his Familiares.

Abstract:
Instead of asserting any alleged rivalry between Marlowe and Shakespeare, Sawyer examines the literary reception of the two when the writers are placed in tandem during critical discourse or artistic production. Focusing on specific examples from the last 400 years, the study begins with Robert Greene’s comments in 1592 and ends with the post-9/11 and 7/7 era. The study not only looks at literary critics and their assessments, but also at playwrights such as Aphra Behn, novelists such as Anthony Burgess, and late twentieth-century movie and theatre directors. The work concludes by showing how the most recent outbreak of Marlowe as Shakespeare’s ghostwriter accelerates due to a climate of conspiracy, including “belief echoes,” which presently permeate our cultural and critical discourse.
