Abstract:
The paper describes an example of designing the radar’s side lobes cancellation system. It is based on the scheme of one channel interference canceler. The analysis of the antennas, which are ussually used in radar’s side lobes cancellation systems, is done, and active phased array antenna is chosen as an antenna of the radar’s side lobes cancellation system. The array pattern was formed by using antenna synthesis iterative method in order to fulfill the radar’s side lobes cancellation system’s antenna requirements. The antenna modeling results and its’ analysis are presented. The radar’s side lobes cancellation system with active phased array antenna eliminates intentional noise or impulse interference from any side lobe directions of the radar antenna.

Abstract:
A time-coded sequence of source pulses has been designed to allow for increased range to the target and reduced side-lobe energy with correlation. The method was designed for a new type of marine-combustion seismic source that can be fired repeatedly, but the method also can be applied to other acoustic-pulsed sources. The basic concept is that one can reduce autocorrelation side lobes by using semiperiodic sequences to concentrate much of the side-lobe noise into time intervals corresponding to the semiperiod. Signals can then be detected with better sensitivity in the time interval after the first autocorrelation peak and before the first periodic side lobe, because this interval contains only lower-level crosscorrelations between the sequence components. Compared with a source which fires pulses randomly, an 8-dB reduction of autocorrelation side lobes has been simulated for sequences of [Formula: see text] duration.

Abstract:
This article presents the effect of fiber Bragg gratings side lobes on interrogation systems consisting of sensor and matched filters. The conducted research shows that high-value side lobe structures applied as sensors and/or filters are characterized by some interesting properties. The paper presents both numerical analysis and experimental verification of the fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) interrogation systems with matched filters for gratings containing high side lobes. Numerical modeling of Bragg structures was performed for two different cases: uniform and inverse apodization. Modification of apodization can change the side lobe reflectance level even above levels found in uniform structures. This is a case not described in the literature, especially in terms of possible applications. Transfer characteristics, i.e., the relationship between power intensity as a function of wavelength shift, were determined. A collection of gratings with spectra corresponding to those analyzed in numerical experiments were fabricated. Next, the transfer characteristics of the interrogation systems containing real FBG were determined. The properties of the proposed systems are described. It has been shown that a significant level of sidebands, which is often the subject of many drawbacks in filtering or telecommunications systems, can be an advantage. It has been demonstrated that a high level of side lobes can be used to increase the measurement range of the FBG sensor interrogation systems. It has been determined numerically and confirmed experimentally that from the point of view of the design of sensor interrogation systems, it is beneficial to combine specific pairs of gratings: one with a spectrum characterized by a low side lobe level and a second one in which the spectrum has very high side lobes.

Abstract:
In radar antennas, asymmetric side lobes are useful, where undesired signals such as noise and ground clutter should be minimized. Also, for practical implementation, the feeding network of such antennas should be efficiently designed. In this paper, a simple analytical method for synthesizing asymmetric side lobe pattern with a wide-angle steered null in the nonuniformly excited linear arrays is presented. In this method, the difference in the side lobe levels on both sides of the main beam is achieved by varying just the phase excitations of the two-edge elements. The major novelty of this paper lies in the fact that the required asymmetric side lobe pattern can be achieved by changing a single phase shifter resulting in a simple feeding network.

Abstract:
In powerful FRII radio galaxies and quasars the polarization of the two radio lobes is often very asymmetric and strongly correlated with jet sidedness. These sources usually have one-sided jets and the lobe on the jet side depolarizes more slowly than the one on the counter-jet side (Laing 1988; Garrington et al. 1988). This correlation can be interpreted in terms of depolarization of the receding lobe by a halo of hot gas surrounding the radio source and is in the expected sense if the jet asymmetry is due to Doppler boosting.

BackgroundIt has been suggested that there is frontal lobe involvement in schizophrenia, and that it may be lateralised and gender-specific.AimsTo clarify the structure of the frontal lobes in schizophrenia in a postmortem series.MethodThe volume of white matter and cortical components of the frontal lobes was measured in brains of controls and patients with schizophrenia using planimetry and the Cavalieri principle. The components measured were: superior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, a composite of inferior frontal gyrus and orbito-frontal cortex, as well as total frontal lobe cortex and white matter. In addition, the anterior cingulate gyrus was measured.ResultsNo diagnosis, gender, diagnosis × side, diagnosis × gender or diagnosis × gender × side interactions were observed in the volume of any of the components, the grey matter as a whole or the white matter. No evidence for volumetric inter-group differences was found for the anterior cingulate gyrus.ConclusionsSuch structural abnormalities as are present in the frontal lobes are more subtle than straightforward alterations in tissue volume; they may include changes in shape and the pattern of gyral folding.

The results of numerical simulation of an antenna array radiation pattern in impulse mode by the method of sampling phased array signal processing are represented in this paper. The studies of array parameters impact (the number of elements and the distance between them) on its penetrometer characteristics are discussed. It is established that the change of the distance among array elements leads to narrowing of the main lobe of the radiation pattern as well as to shifting of the side lobes nearer to the main one. Meanwhile, the increase in the number of elements in the array leads to narrowing of the main lobe and decreasing of the side lobes level.

Abstract:
In this thesis, a maximum likelihood receiver to obtain the target range profile that uses the clutter prediction derived from the target-free previous observations is suggested as a fast time processor for pulse compression radar systems. The maximum likelihood receiver is proposed to overcome the range sidelobe problem, which is introduced by the pulse compression method. Conventional methods, such as the matched filter receiver, as fast time processor result in the targets with high radar cross sec- tion masking the low radar cross section targets at the neighboring range cells<br>since sidelobes of the matched filter is determined by the autocorrelation of the spreading code and linearly proportional to target signal power. An unbiased estimator, like the maximum likelihood receiver in this thesis work does not su&crarr<br>er from such issues. In addition to that, to suppress the signal dependent interference, namely the clutter, at the output of fast time processor<br>the previous target-free observations are col- lected and utilized to predict the clutter signal for next time instant. This prediction is used in the maximum likelihood receiver. The clutter prediction is done for the stationary case and the internal clutter motion case, and their SINR performances with the maximum likelihood receiver are evaluated. In conclusion, such an approach managed to have an unbiased estimation of target range profile and the clutter suppression advantage in the fast time.

Khan, Iqtidar Ahmad. "Analysis and Synthesis of a New Class of Low Side Lobe Planar Arrays." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/93222.

Full text
Abstract:
Numerical techniques for designing planar arrays with low side lobe level often require memory intensive optimization algorithms and also initialization in the form of some known values of radiation pattern parameters beforehand - information that may not be available when designing arrays. A few analytical methods exist in the literature that can be used to design rectangular lattices of isotropic elements for desired half-power beamwidth and side lobe level, but the number of elements of the array often should be known before the design process. Some array designs based on analytical techniques may suffer from severe performance limitations, an example is the uniformly excited array which cannot produce side lobe levels below ̶13.3 dB. The goal of this study is to present an analytical technique for synthesis of planar arrays that, for specified radiation pattern requirements, not only provides quick solutions for the required number of elements and its distribution along the length and width of the array rectangular lattice, but also produces low side lobes without any limitation. A new class of non-uniformly excited equally spaced planar arrays is introduced and investigated in this study. The new array uses the patterns of uniformly excited linear arrays as its building blocks and has a separable element current distribution, hence making it mathematically convenient to analyze its radiation properties in terms of those of its constituent linear arrays. The proposed planar array does not suffer from the side lobe level limitation of uniformly excited planar arrays, and its synthesis, due to the analytical nature of description of its radiation properties, does not require iterative procedures that are inherent to numerical techniques. Radiation characteristics of the proposed planar array, including directivity, side lobe level, half-power beamwidths, far-field three dimensional radiation patterns, and element excitation currents, are examined and simulation results for several example cases are presented. The analysis culminates with successfully mapping a continuous radiation pattern to discrete element currents in a rectangular lattice geometry. The synthesis procedure is validated by successfully designing various planar arrays with desired requirements in terms of side lobe level and half-power beamwidths in the principal planes. Several design examples are presented. Radiation characteristics of the synthesized arrays are compared with the desired design requirements which were used as input information in the synthesis process. For the cases studied, the achieved performance characteristics are close to the desired ones.<br>MS

Abstract:
Recognition of speech at the receiver end generally gets degraded in distant talking atmospheres of laptops, teleconfereing, video conferences and in hands free telephony, where the quality of speech gets contaminated and severely disturbed because of the additive noises. To make useful and effective, the exact speech signals has to be extracted from the noise signals and the user has to be given the clean speech. In such conditions the convenience of microphone array has been preferred as a means of civilizing the quality of arrested signals. A consequential growth in laptop technology and microphone array processing have made possible to improve intelligibility of speech while communication. So this contention target on reducing the additive noises from the original speech, beside design and use of different algorithms. In this thesis a multi-channel microphone array with its speech enhancement of signals to Wiener Beamformar and Generalized side lobe canceller (GSC) are used for Laptops in a noisy environment. Systems prescribed above were implemented, processed and evaluated on a computer using Mat lab considering SNR, SNRI as the main objective of quality measures. Systems were tested with two speech signals, among which one is Main speech signal and other is considered as Noise along with another random noise, sampling them at 16 KHz .Three Different source originations were taken into consideration with different input SNR’s of 0dB, 5dB, 10dB, 15dB, 20dB, 25dB. Simulation Results showed that Noise is been attenuated to a great extent. But Variations in SNR and SNRI has been observed, because of the different point origination of signals in the respective feilds.Variation in SNR and SNRI is been observed when the distance between the main speech originating point and microphone is too long compared to the noise signals. This states that origination of signals plays a huge role in maintaining the speech quality at the receiver end.<br>D.No 4-22, Gandla street, papanaidupeta-517526 chittoor district,Andhra pradesh India naveenkumarthupalli@gmail.com

Abstract:
The thesis summarizes a selection of my research within Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). Mainly the research is aimed at applying and developing signal processing methods to single channel and multi channel SAR for wideband systems. SAR systems can generate images looking very similar to optical pictures, i.e. photos, and sometimes with much finer resolution compared to optical systems orbiting Earth. SAR has also for instance been used to obtain fine resolution images of the moon, Venus and the satellites of Saturn. Other applications for SAR has is to detect changes in ice sheets and deforestation. In this thesis, SAR systems capable of very high resolution imaging are con- sidered, and data from such systems, namely the VHF system CARABAS-II and the UHF system LORA, is used. High resolution imaging in this thesis refers to high resolution with regard to wavelength, this independent of system operating frequency. Two of the topics in this thesis are related to detection and parameter estimation of moving objects in SAR, the first one using CARABAS-II data and the second with LORA data. On the CARABAS-II data, a speed estimation and refocusing method is introduced and applied to single channel CARABAS-II data. The results show good estimation accuracy as well as good ability to focus the object and suppress forest clutter by ap- plying the refocusing algorithm. The results on LORA data are satisfactory especially with regard to forest clutter suppression. The ability to detect and focus images of ships allow for surveillance of coastal areas and help in rescue of ships lost at sea. Detection and location of cars and trucks allow for traffic monitoring to obtain statistics of how many cars travel the roads and their speed. In the thesis, two more important aspects for SAR processing is presented. One paper presents windowing of UWB SAR images. A strong object such as a power line in a SAR image cause ringing on both sides of the power line. This ringing can cause a small house to be covered by these so called side lobes. Applying a window can make these side lobes in the image much suppressed, however if windowing too much, the power line will smear over the image, covering the small house. The last topic in the thesis concern with theoretical limits for measurement accuracy of parameters for a moving object in a SAR image. These parameters are position, velocity, radar cross section and phase. The theoretical expressions are verified using simulations for a single channel system for estimation accuracy of target speed and relative speed.

Abstract:
For each function (modulation, deflection, shifting and filtering), an exemple of application highlights the decisive characteristics of the component. This thesis is particularly devoted to the anisotropic interactions occuring in Paratellurite crystal. Such material is widely used for filtering and deflection applications due to its high figure of merit and also for its large optical transparency domain, from Ultra-Violet to Infra-Red. Optical, acoustical and acoustooptical properties of Paratellurite cristal are detailed. More precisely, we are interested in anisotropic interactions, in particular NPM (Narrow Phase Mismatch) and TPM (Tangent Phase Mismatch), respectively employed for Acousto-Optic Tunable Filters (AOTF) and Acousto-Optic Deflectors (AOD). This leads to the study of the optical bandwidth of a deflector with a potential application as a tunable transmissive grating beam splitter for multiple laser line separation. Then, we propose to cascade an AOTF with an AOD in order to get a wide bandwidth tunable optical low frequency shifter. Finally, we present the design and fabrication of a multi-transducer component based on dual anisotropic interaction in the visble spectral range, from 400 to 650 nm. A significative reduction of sides lobes is observed (-50%) with an homogenisation of the optical bandwidth of the filter on its spectral working range

Abstract:
This project presents the description, design and the implementation of a 4-channel microphone array that is an adaptive sub-band generalized side lobe canceller (GSC) beam former uses for video conferencing, hands-free telephony etc, in a noisy environment for speech enhancement as well as noise suppression. The side lobe canceller evaluated with both Least Mean Square (LMS) and Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS) adaptation. A testing structure is presented; which involves a linear 4-microphone array connected to collect the data. Tests were done using one target signal source and one noise source. In each microphone’s, data were collected via fractional time delay filtering then it is divided into sub-bands and applied GSC to each of the subsequent sub-bands. The overall Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) improvement is determined from the main signal and noise input and output powers, with signal-only and noise-only as the input to the GSC. The NLMS algorithm significantly improves the speech quality with noise suppression levels up to 13 dB while LMS algorithm is giving up to 10 dB. All of the processing for this thesis is implemented on a computer using MATLAB and validated by considering different SNR measure under various types of blocking matrix, different step sizes, different noise locations and variable SNR with noise.<br>Mamun Ahmed E-mail: mamuncse99cuet@yahoo.com

Abstract:
In this chapter, Maureen Sie argues that our nature as loving beings can explain our nature as moral beings. Because love and morality seem to be similar phenomena in many ways, she distinguishes several kinds of loves and explains how they relate to different moral dimensions of our existence, taking as her starting point C. S. Lewis’s work on the subject and renaming his fourth kind of love “kindness.” She argues that recent findings in affective neuroscience suggest that this fourth kind is a natural kind of love. She discusses the dynamics of Lewis’s account, showing that each of the loves that he distinguishes requires the fourth love (kindness) to keep them from taking a nasty turn. She concludes by explaining why this kind of love actually fits the naturalist picture well if the recent finding that oxytocin is involved in our trusting interactions with strangers is correct.
