Abstract:
This paper reports the conversion of a large unsignalised roundabout (HURIYA SQUARI!) relatively close to the University of Baghdad campus to a signalized intersection. The study focused on reduction of vehicle delay and queue length at this intersection area. During the course of this research project, two software packages for the analysis and design of isolated intersection, SIDRA (Akcelik, R.1986 and 1991) and HCS (Transportation Research Board, National Research Council 1994) were available. A trial site selected and the observed dara used in the evaluation of the SIDRA and HCS outputs. The evaluation process indicated that SIDRA produce vehicle delay, which is reasonably consistent with the observed vehicle delay. Hence, SIDRA software used in the evaluation of alternative designs of the HURIYA SQUARE intersection. Five proposals of signaling plans and four proposed geometric layouts examined. The first proposal evaluated on site; the other four proposals examined with aid of the SIDRA software. Based on the carried analysis, the intersection geometric layout, signal timing, and phasing plan which result in lower vehicle delay and higher reserved capacity selected.
The Local Authority (AMANAT BAHGDAD) adopted the selected design and the large roundabout converted to a signalized intersection. Observation of traffic behavior following the conversion indicates a considerable improvement in traffic movement performance

Abstract:
The number of shopping malls and vehicles in Baghdad has quickly increased along with the city's population. This has resulted in an increase in daily trips, which affects the roadway network's traffic flow and causes congestion, particularly on Al-Mansour Street and Al-Rowad Street near the city center. To determine the best signal time, the 14th Ramadan signalized intersection was evaluated and analyzed using the SIDRA 8.0 and SYNCHRO 11.0 software. First, the findings revealed that the chosen traffic facility is presently experiencing a substantial reduction in service level that is leading to forced conditions (LOS "F"). It is suggested that the cycle time at the intersection of the 14th Ramadan be changed from 240 seconds to 160 seconds and 125 seconds in SIDRA and SYNCHRO, respectively. Signal timings have reduced the delay for the 14th Ramadan intersection (76.8%), thus improving LOS from (F) to (D) for the intersection. The best delays after optimization in SYNCHRO 11.0, however, were 31% reduction with LOS of (E and D). Cycle times have also been lowered for the intersection to 25% as part of the optimum signal timing optimization. In SYNCHRO 11.0, which is better than SIDRA 8.0, the back of the queue has improved at the 14th Ramadan intersection by 33%. However, SYNCHRO has a better representation than SIDRA for current traffic saturation

Abstract:
Abstract Intersections affect the safety and capacity of urban traffic. Therefore, the design and selection of the type of intersection need to be made very carefully. According to the demand level, a different intersection can be designed. Modern roundabouts are one of the types of circular intersections that provide advantages over other types of intersection in terms of smooth operation and safety. Modern roundabouts exist in several types today worldwide. In practice, the distinction about the kinds of roundabouts would not be fully clarified; as a result, queuing and delay can be seen as negative effects. The aim of this study was to analyze the operational performance of the roundabout at Jalan Mutiara Emas Utama in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru, during peak hours. The traffic volume was also measured for a 1-hour peak-hour period in the morning and evening. The geometric data and performance of roundabouts in the year 2020 were taken from Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB). and analyzed using the SIDRA version 9 software. As result the performance analysis indicated that the demand flow of vehicles at the south lanes, Jalan Mutiara Emas Utama (R3), and west lanes, Jalan Mutiara Emas Puteh, (R10), exceeded the capacity and resulted in LOS F. The roundabout’s performance in 2020 was compared to the current year, 2022, with both left-turn lanes achieving a free-flow speed resulting in Level of Service (LOS) B in 2020 and LOS A in 2022. Specifically, the north lane (R2) and east lane (R1) transitioned from LOS B to LOS A in 2020 and 2022, respectively. However, the south lane (R3) and west lane (R1) require capacity and LOS improvements to alleviate traffic conditions. Overall, the project’s success is expected to benefit MBJB by enhancing traffic management in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru.

Abstract:
Traffic congestion has significant social, economic and environmental costs associated with it. Efficiency of intersections contributes significantly towards the efficiency of whole urban road networks as they are the main bottlenecks in the system. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the operational efficiency of priority controlled, roundabout and signalised intersections under a range of traffic conditions with different volume and turning ratios using SIDRA software. We used three measures to represent the operational efficiency namely: intersection capacity, average delay and total emissions. The analysis revealed strengths and weaknesses of each intersection types under a range of demand and traffic conditions. At low traffic demand, priority controlled intersections outperformed the other two forms of intersection control. At moderate traffic demand, roundabout performed the best while at high traffic demand, signalised intersections performed the best.

Abstract:
In Baghdad city, Iraq, the traffic volumes have rapidly grown during the last 15 years. Road networks need to reevaluate and decide if they are operating properly or not regarding the increase in the number of vehicles. Al-Jadriyah intersection (a four-leg signalized intersection) and Kamal Junblat Square (a multi-lane roundabout), which are two important intersections in Baghdad city with high traffic volumes, were selected to be reevaluated by the SIDRA package in this research. Traffic volume and vehicle movement data were abstracted from videotapes by the Smart Traffic Analyzer (STA) Software. The performance measures include delay and LOS. The analysis results by SIDRA Intersection 8.0.1 show that the performance of the roundabout is better than the signalized intersection but experiences high delay, and low LOS. Therefore, alternatives are proposed to improve the performance for current and future traffic volumes with low-medium delays.

Abstract:
Due to rapid development and urbanisation, the traffic systems in Perak are developing and continuously growing in numbers. Evaluation of junction concerning capacity and safety is very important since it is directly related to delay, level of service, accident, operation cost and environmental issues. Traffic congestion happens due to delay and reduction of average speed during AM Peak hours at two roundabouts. This study aims to improve the traffic flow by determining the LOS at two different roundabouts. A traffic study was conducted at “Bulatan Bahagia” and “Bulatan Sultan Iskandar” in Ipoh. Sidra 5.0 application was used as an alternative to Highway Capacity Manual to analyze the junction and LOS performances. This analysis was carried out using SIDRA Software 5.0 to determine the LOS at “Bulatan Bahagia” and “Bulatan Sultan Iskandar” in Ipoh. This study provides recommendations to improve the roundabout performance. The result shows the improvement in the level of service from LOS F to LOS B and from LOS F to LOS D. The percentages of reduction for delay were 2 % and 5% respectively. The finding shows that speed on road has a direct correlation with traffic congestion. The speed improves up to 57 % and 20 %. The analysis indicates that Sidra application utilisation gives the best alternative design for intersections and improve the LOS due to sustainable traffic demand on both upstream and downstream roundabouts.

Abstract:
This paper aims to assess the performance of signalized intersections in Bahir Dar City, Ethiopia, utilizing SIDRA software. Signalized intersections play a crucial role in urban traffic management, influencing the efficiency and safety of transportation systems. Through a case study approach, this research evaluates the effectiveness of signalized intersections in Bahir Dar City, focusing on aspects such as traffic flow, delay, and level of service. The study utilizes SIDRA software, a widely-used tool for traffic analysis and simulation, to model and analyze intersection performance under various conditions. Data collection includes field observations, traffic counts, and intersection geometries. The findings provide insights into the current state of signalized intersections in Bahir Dar City are Inadequate split signal phasing and a general lack of need for the signal in favor of a roundabout are the main factors influencing how well an intersection performs. Before improvement, the average wait time and length of the line at the intersection were greater than they were after improvement. So as to enhance the junction by phasing time correction and signal replacement with a roundabout. Finally, the intersection's average delay, queue length, and quality of service have all improved. Accordingly, the findings of the Depo signalized major intersections' performance analysis show that some of the intersections are overloaded or in poor condition and offer recommendations for improvement to enhance traffic efficiency and safety.

Abstract:
Congestion has become a significant issue with the increasing population and vehicle volume. Biratnagar, an economic hub of Nepal, is a crucial entry point from India. The Kanchanbari intersection has been dealing with challenges such as congestion, long queues, and frequent accidents. This critical situation needs our attention. This paper aims to optimize the intersection using SIDRA Intersection 8.0 software. Traffic volume data was collected over 72 hours, and geometrical characteristics were recorded manually. The model was designed for morning, afternoon, and evening peak hours. The maximum traffic flow was in the evening from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. A model was developed using SIDRA 8.0 to analyze the current conditions. The model was validated to ensure accuracy by comparing the simulated queue lengths with real-time observed data. Optimization was conducted using signal length optimization and controlled left turn movements. Both strategies significantly reduced average delay and queue length, proving the latter the most effective.

Abstract:
Abstract: Traffic signals and roundabouts controls are commonly used in several at-grade junctions in urban areas for maximizing traffic efficiency and safety by separating traffic movements in time. The intersection performance is measured by comparing the parameters like- capacity, degree of saturation, delay, queue length, fuel consumption, operating costs and emission, etc. This research paper provides a comparative study of operational performance between a roundabout and signalized intersection at Gergi-Imperial. The traffic data on all approach of the intersection were collected by video camera during the most congested days of the week. The traffic volume obtained in different classes of a vehicle was converted to uniform vehicle fleet by the passenger car equivalency factor. The geometric data for the selected intersections were measured manually. Data analysis and processing were performed using SIDRA (Signalized and Unsignalized intersection Design and Research Aid) intersection software to compare the traffic flow condition at the intersection. The performance measures such as Average delay, Degree of saturation and Level of service at each intersection were interpreted for comparison. The capacities of the signalized intersection were found to be higher than the capacities of roundabout. Signalized intersection was found to be better than the roundabout in terms of the degree of operational performance. Abstract:
Traffic congestion is a major problem in developing country like Nigeria. Traffic congestion at intersection is on the increase in Auchi metropolis as the numbers of vehicles increases there, which eventually lead to traffic delay and traffic crash casualties. For this research, an Markovian/Markovian/1 (M/M/1) queuing model was used to analyse the queuing characteristic of the intersection to determine the arrival rate and service rate of the vehicles. An operation research software known as Temporary-Ordered Routing Algorithm (TORA) version 2.5 was used to analyze the arrival and service time data obtained to determine the operating characteristics of the M/M/s model for each of the intersection. The result showed that the average traffic intensity of the intersections was more than the optimal traffic intensity of 0.5 indicating the intersections were congested. Signalised & unsignalised Intersection Design and Research Aid (SIDRA) software was further used to analyse the intersection to access the performance measure of the intersection. The result from the SIDRA software also confirmed that the intersection was congested. It was recommended that the capacity of the intersection should be increased; government should construct traffic signals and enforce law to sanction motorists that inappropriately park along the road sides close to intersection; appropriate government agency should carry out more public enlightenment on the use of traffic signal and other roads signs; and alternative roads should be constructed to mitigate the congestion at intersections.

Abstract:
Computer simulation is a vital means for the examination of expressways and urban lanes and streets. Transportation experts concentrate on the arrangement and dissemination of traffic jams on roadways. The objective of this study is to calculate and analyses the travel time, delay time, degree of saturation, and level of service and travel speed in Jordan intersection in Baghdad, Iraq using Sidra software. The number of vehicles passing Jordan intersection was recorded by the author of this work from 7am to 3pm for four days. A simulation model has been used to assess the performance of the current intersection. Results demonstrated that the level of service (LOS) for Jordan intersection is D with (35 sec/veh) average delay and degree of saturation (0.996 v/c). It was concluded that Jordan intersection needs further developments like using intelligent transportation system application (ITS) to regulate traffic signals, whereby reducing traffic jam, using closed circuit TV (CCTV) might assist traffic office in identifying jam point to reduce traffic jam.

Abstract:
Over the world, signalized intersections and road networks with heavy traffic have posed severe issues. So, it is crucial to employ cutting-edge software tools to ensure the current system can be managed and assessed. Therefore; this paper aims to analyze and evaluate the traffic flow performance at AL-Masbah signalized intersections in Baghdad city during peak hours by utilizing SIDRA INTERSECTION 5. For purposes of evaluation, the Level of Service LOS, average delay time, capacity, degree of saturation, queue for Intersection, fuel consumption, and carbon dioxide emission have been considered. In this study, video count was used to collect data. The main input data included peak hour factor (PHF), numbers and width of lanes, percent of heavy vehicles for each direction and movement, median, phasing, and timing. The results of the analysis indicated that the intersection is operated at LOS ( F) with a backlog queue of 166.1 which is the queue for any lane used by movement (vehicles)and a 1262m queue for any lane used by movement (meters) m, while fuel consumption was at a rate of 849.9 liters per hour. Furthermore, the results revealed that carbon dioxide (CO2) emission was increased by 2124.8 Kg per hour. So, It can be concluded that the intersection needs to improve its level of service by changing its geometry or by implementing an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).

Abstract:
This study investigates traffic flow challenges at the bustling Mintu Chattar roundabout Situated in Laxmipur Mor, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Located in close proximity to a hub of hospitals and medical establishments, this intersection routinely witnesses traffic congestion, becoming a familiar occurrence in the area. From dawn to dusk, traffic officers are required to step in to manage the traffic flow of countless individuals commuting to hospitals, workplaces, educational institutions, and other destinations. Our capacity analysis using Sidra Intersection software reveals significant bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours, necessitating traffic police intervention due to inadequate control measures. The research identifies key contributing factors: insufficient entry and circulatory lanes, uneven traffic distribution, and high overall traffic volume. A detailed case study of the south leg highlights the severity of the situation, with Level of Service (LOS) dropping to F during evening hours, resulting in long queues (over 61 vehicles) and delays exceeding 82 seconds per vehicle. The integration of the design life model from SIDRA software has also illustrated the correlation between Level of Service (LOS) and capacity with the projected rise in traffic volume for the next five years. In order to improve traffic flow efficiency, the study proposes exploring design optimization of the roundabout. This includes investigating the impact of geometric redesigning, such as gradual expansion of approach lanes width, on capacity at the roundabout leg, considering both existing and future traffic scenarios.

Abstract:
Traffic impact assessment (TIA) on a proposed commercial development in the neighbourhoods of Ampang Town in Selangor was conducted. In this study, trip rate analysis and regression analysis were carried out to assess future traffic expected to be generated by the proposed new commercial development. Calculations of trips were based on the Malaysian Highway Planning Unit (HPU) Trip Generation Manual (TGM) Malaysia 2010 related to a category of proposed new commercial development. Before and after construction study on the proposed new commercial development at neighbouring critical intersections and roads was carried out to determine existing and projected traffic volumes. A Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software was used to analyse traffic growth rate. This procedure uses a growth factor in the traffic data to show an increase in demand for transport journeys in the future. Then, intersections and roads traffic performances were analysed using the Signalised and Un-signalised Intersection Design and Research Aid (SIDRA) software. Result of SIDRA analysis with traffic projection horizon of year 2026 shows deterioration in Level of Service (LOS) D at one of the existing main junctions leading to the proposed new commercial development. Finally, traffic improvements were proposed to address future impact of generated traffic caused by the proposed new commercial development. Consequently, this study has provided a framework for TIA preparation and would assist developers and local authorities in their decision making to meet all the requirements needed in the design and improvement of traffic flow.

Abstract:
A roundabout is a highway engineering concept meant to calm traffic, increase safety, reduce stop-and-go travel, reduce accidents and congestion, and decrease traffic delays. It is circular and facilitates one-way traffic flow around a central point. The first part of this study evaluated the principles and methods used to compare the capacity methods of roundabouts with different traffic conditions and geometric configurations. These methods include gap acceptance, empirical, and simulation software methods. Previous studies mentioned in this research used various methods and other new models developed by several researchers. However, this paper's main aim is to compare different roundabout capacity models for acceptable capacity predictions for single-lane and multi-lane roundabouts. In conclusion, previous studies such as RODEL, SIDRA, Swiss, HCM6, and IRC overestimate capacity, while the GHCM method underestimates it. Each VISSIM and SIDRA predicted higher capacity than HCM2010, Paramics, and Simtrafic capacity methods. Generally, the precise prediction of capacity value depends on the circulating flow, exiting traffic flow, driver behavior, and geometric variations. Also, a comparison between seventeen methods was made using virtual data. For a single-lane roundabout, Girabase and Swiss models estimated higher capacity values when compared with other models, while HCM 2010 estimated lower capacity. The Shamueli’s model provides an estimate of capacity about the same as the lower bound of the HCM 2000 model. Brilon’s model estimated lower capacity values for a multi-lane roundabout compared with other methods. At low circulating flow, the Girabase model estimated a higher capacity value, while with the increasing circulating flow, the FHWA2000 estimated a higher capacity than the Girabase model. Also, there is a bit of a difference between SIDRA 5 and 8.0. There is a small interval between models that are implemented in a single-lane roundabout. Therefore, the models are better at predicting the capacity of a single lane than they are at predicting the capacity of multiple lanes.

This study provides an overview of the current situation ofsignalized intersections in Satdobato. Satdobato, located in the central business district of Lalitpur connects busy approaches and faces congestion. The environment and traffic flow parameters are modeled in a microsimulation software ‘SIDRA Intersection 8.0’. The calibration and validation of the intersection model in the software are performed using field data. The performance of the intersection is evaluated based onthe LOS, and delay, and back of the queue. The evaluation of the performance is followed by the implementation of the performance enhancement strategies. Optimization of the signal timing is performed by changing the cycle lengths and splitting the timing. Further, the continuous left-turning movement is controlled under signal time. Appropriate recommendations are provided based on the evaluation of the system performances after making changes in the model.

This thesis discusses about the use of Akcelik & Associates Signalised & Unsignalised Intersection Design and Research Aid (aaSIDRA Intersection) Software in the analysis of unsignalised intersection in Sarawak, Malaysia. aaSIDRA Intersection software was used to analyse the data which were manually obtained through traffic volume study carried out at the two junctions during the morning peak period and also helps in producing the capacity and Level of Service of the intersection. Four parameters were analysed in this thesis: critical gap, follow-up time, proportion of heavy vehicles or motorcycles and total number of vehicles for each of the approaches of the intersection. Referring to the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), these variable parameter values are determined and then the expected output of the aaSidra being used in the analysis of this study are average control delay, existing level of service, and capacity of the junction. Fixed values to be input into SIDRA Intersection are obtained from the traffic volume study. The input influences the value for the average control delay which assists in determining the Level of Service of the intersection. These output values are highly influenced by the respective input values. All factors analysed under four parameters to determine the level of service of the two junctions were contributing equally and correlates with each other and there was not one that exceeds the other factor. The critical factors affecting the level of service are critical gap and traffic volume.

Transportation is the movement of people and goods over time and space. This is an important matter in our lives, and people cannot live without it. Transport enables access for people from their homes to their work, education, health services, shops, and so forth. The transportation system has many problems in Kabul city, such as traffic congestion, lack of reliable and safe public transportation, road accidents, and difficulties for non-motorized transport. Therefore, it is vital to utilise advanced software tools to explore possible solutions to the traffic congestion problem. This study is aimed at evaluating and analysing Shaheed Intersection in Kabul, Afghanistan using the SIDRA INTERSECTION program. It evaluated traffic performance at one of Kabul's most important intersections using parameters such as level of service (LOS), delays, queue, fuel consumption, CO2, CO, (CH2O) n, and NOx emissions. The results revealed a significant time delay, a hazardous amount of emissions, and a low LOS (F).After a comprehensive investigation of the results, which is essential to build an underpass from east to west that will significantly reduce delays and emissions and increase the LOS until 2031.

Abstract:
A flyover is a bridge constructed along an intersecting highway over an at-grade intersection. It allows two –direction traffic to flow at free flow speed on the bridge. The flyover is one of the methods for solving traffic problems at at-grade junctions on highways including capacity, congestion, long delay and queue length. Traffic signalization at the upgraded intersection often uses the same fixed time control plans, even after the installation of a flyover over the intersection. Most of the flyovers in India are constructed at the junctions on highway bypasses of big cities. The present work deals with a efficient scheduling of flyover at the grade intersection under the mixed traffic environment. From the results and the modeling carried out in the “SIDRA Intersection” software different points are observed. The present work consists of the Proposed Intersection at Rajkamal Square, Amravati.

Abstract:
Traffic intersections are considered essential elements in any traffic system, playing a vital role in organizing traffic flow and directing vehicles. The importance of these intersections lies in being the points where different roads intersect, facilitating movement between areas. However, poorly designed intersections can lead to significant issues, such as congestion and long wait times, negatively impacting drivers' experiences and the effectiveness of the traffic system. When intersections are not well-designed, they result in irregular traffic flow, necessitating the need for precise scientific studies to analyze traffic flow. These studies should rely on sound scientific principles to understand the relationship between intersection design and traffic performance. There can be cost-effective operational solutions, such as optimizing traffic signals or changing movement patterns, which contribute to improving efficiency. A review of previous studies shows an increasing interest in evaluating the impact of intersections on traffic using computer programs. This study aims to review the most important of these studies and focus on key points that highlight how to improve the performance of these intersections and increase the efficiency of the traffic network. This paper discusses some studies related to intersections and their effects on traffic, with a focus on using computer programs to assess their performance. These studies include traffic performance analysis and examining how intersection design and traffic signals affect movement efficiency. Programs such as "Synchro," "VISSIM," "SIDRA," and "HCS" are used to evaluate the level of service and delay times at various intersections. Simulation techniques are also employed to solve traffic problems and improve flow, with some studies comparing these programs to determine their different impacts on traffic.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction/Objective The management of internal quality control (IQC) in Sidra Medicine Clinical Chemistry Division has been evaluated in order to promote a more consolidated and efficient process of IQC management. The statistical data produced from Cerner QC Module are transferred to IQC review templates consisting of formulas to auto- calculate parameters such as multiple of expected QC failure frequency and desirable comparison limit between analyzers. The IQC review and documentation process using the in-house excel template requires several hours to complete, hence a faster and more efficient IQC management module is required. The main objective of this study is to improve the initial IQC management set up, work flow and review procedures and to implement Biorad Unity Real Time (URT) program to develop a more efficient IQC management system. Methods The URT software has been recently configured and implemented to consolidate and streamline IQC management. URT is built through Sidra Medicine IT Enterprise level which allows multiple users to login. IQC data are downloaded using scripts from Cerner which are filtered through Biorad Unity Connect (UC) software. Additional quality tools are also explored such as various user defined statistical reports, IQC analysis using peer reviewed total allowable error (TeA) and assignment of the most appropriate Westgard rules. Determination of sigma metrics and uncertainty of measurement is also performed using the URT application. Results The generation of any IQC report is less cumbersome and time consuming as compared with the previous process. However, some user defined formulas in the IQC templates are not found on the URT reports. The URT Levey Jennings chart are also more user friendly and directly compares the daily IQC data with Unity inter-laboratory peers enabling the production of instant and monthly reports through QCNet site when assay investigation is required and for IQC report documentation. Conclusion The combination of Cerner IQC, Unity Real-time, QCNet Inter-laboratory reports and in house IQC templates produce a high level and very detailed IQC review which effectively evaluate assay performance to assist on IQC troubleshooting and root cause analysis to be able to apply the most appropriate corrective actions.

The design and construction of roundabouts, as a solution that will replace the classic intersection, has great application in our area, because it has proven to be the best traffic solution. The aim of this paper is to determine whether the roundabout will provide better traffic conditions than a traffic light. Baseline data were collected by counting traffic at the intersection in question and then processed in the SIDRA INTERSECTION software program. The program analysis covers the following criteria: service level, time losses, costs and emissions. Reducing speed has increased the safety of all road users, which in addition to the environmental aspect is the most important positive effect. With traffic congestion, traffic intensity and service levels have been raised. The construction of the roundabout would continue the trend of construction of roundabouts in Banja Luka, which, in addition to traffic amenities, gives this city an aesthetically pleasing new dimension.

Cities in Jordan, especially the capital, Amman, are witnessing traffic jams due to the increase in the number of cars and the increase in population (whether it is a natural increase or an increase due to successive migrations from the neighboring countries). This study aims to evaluate and improve the level of service (LOS) and delay of the Elba-house intersection in Amman city, Jordan. The required data were collected from the governorate traffic departments and also directly from the field. The intersection was evaluated using SIDRA INTERSECTION 5.1 software. The results show that the level of service is F, and the intersection is crowded with a total delay time of about 285.8 seconds. A tunnel in addition to a roundabout was proposed to decrease the average delay and increase its level of service. The reanalysis of the intersection provided good results whereas the level of service can be increased to B and the average delay reduced to 13.3 seconds.

Abstract:
Background: Intersections affect the safety and capacity of urban traffic. Therefore, the design and selection of the type of intersection need to be made very carefully. According to the demand level, a different intersection can be designed. Signalized intersections are one of the intersection types in which the sequence and duration of the flow at the intersection are provided by the lights. Generally, this type of intersection is used on roads with high traffic volume. Methods: In this study, to make a distinction and clarify the kinds of roundabouts, first, the roundabouts types are introduced according to geometric and operational aspects. A signalized intersection, where a circular island is placed and also signalized, was investigated in terms of capacity, delay, and emissions located in Niğde. The traffic flow performance of the current state (nested signalized roundabout) was calculated with HCM Method (for signalized intersection) using SIDRA and compared with roundabout solutions of the intersection with HCM6 (for roundabout) method using SIDRA Intersection analysis software. Results: From the results of the intersection capacity analysis study based on HCM6, it was seen that the application of a roundabout scenario (intersection considered as a modern roundabout) showed higher performance at the intersections than the intersection having a secondary signal. Capacity increased to 67.8%, the average delay decreased to 72.8% and 95th percentile queue dropped to 82.2%. Conclusion: Roundabout controlling instead of a nested signal system can be an example of the increase in the performance of traffic flow. This highlights the importance of choosing the appropriate roundabout design.

The study provides an overview of the existing operational performance of Jawalakhel Roundabout with and without cycle lanes in terms of current and future traffic. Jawalakhel is located in the central business district of Lalitpur and connects busy approaches. This connects Pulchowk in the North, Lagankhel in the East, Ekantakuna in the South, and Zoo in the West. It is serving to minimize the resulting conflict between the vehicles; however, due to increasing vehicular movements it is facing challenges like delay, poor level of service and traffic congestion. Video graphic survey method was applied for the collection of traffic volume data and pedestrian volume data during peak hours. The environment and traffic flow parameters are modeled in software 'SIDRA Intersection 8.0'. The calibration and validation of the roundabout model in the software are performed using field data. The performance of the roundabout is assessed based on the LOS, Average Delay, Queue length and is followed by the implementation of the performance enhancement strategies. After analysis, delay; degree of saturation; level of service & 95% of queue vehicles was calculated for existing condition and performance after five years were also analyzed. As a result, the existing performance of the Jawalakhel roundabout was not found to be satisfactory. The result was observed after changing the geometric design of Jawalakhel roundabout.

Abstract:
Abstract Traffic congestion is one of the most important factors contributing to air pollution. Vehicle emissions account for a significant portion of this pollution. Estimate the negative impact of traffic congestion by empirical model for predicting total delay time as a function of traffic conditions and geometric features and calculating the quantities of gases emitted during the traffic congestion at the signalled intersection is the goal of this paper. Two signalized intersections in Babil City with different characteristics are select. video recording is used to measure traffic volumes during peak and off-peak times. Afield survey is used to measure geometric design elements, signal timings, phasing, and selected emissions of HC, CO, and CO2 in (kg/hr) are based on delay. with 95% confidence, a linear regression model predicted the delay model. according to the statistical analysis, both geometry and traffic characteristics have a substantial influence on delay time. The constructed regression model for estimating delay has a high degree of correlation with actual values. The proportion of the total width of the exit route of an intersection of straight-forward departing traffic to the total width of groups of lanes departing on the same exit route at the same phase at the stop line it is observed that although the SIDRA 8.0 PLUS delay overestimates the delay at the high (v/c) range, there is no noticeable difference with the field delay and the study will offer suggestions to transportation and public health officials on how to try eco-routing and deco-signal timing to lower the risk of air pollutants.

Abstract:
Traffic management is a major problem in large cities of Pakistan. Pakistan is a developing country with aging infrastructure of roadways and railways. The traffic conditions are deteriorating due to inappropriate design. Traffic problems due to improper design have resulted in loss of the life and property. The main purpose of this study is to identify the existing traffic condition of Sialkot City, Pakistan at Daska, Model Town Bhed Puli and Gulistan Cinema intersection. The Sialkot City is connected with Narowal, Gujrat and Gujranwala through Metalled streets. Sixteen hours of Manual Traffic Count was conducted at each intersection. Equivalent factors for Passenger Car Unit recommended by Government of Punjab are used. Afterwards, analysis has been carried out using Signalized and unsignalized Intersection Design and Research Aid (SIDRA) software. It is observed that Level of Service (LOS) is poor and Volume Capacity Ratio (V/C) is higher for the selected intersections. In order to eliminate the issues of the selected intersection, a few enhancements are suggested and are described in detail. LOS is improved by provision of signals for Gulistan Cinema intersection and Model Town Bhed Puli intersection along with separation of slow moving vehicles by providing service lane; whereas for Daska intersection, freeway provided for traffic channelization with provision of bus bay and parking lane.

Abstract:
This paper addresses the analysis of the operational performance of a roundabout and a 3-legged intersection located in quite a busy area of the Aligarh city. The city has an urban population of around 0.9 million people. The roundabout and 3-legged intersection are located in the close proximity of busy commercial areas and schools. Roundabout that has been taken under consideration is un-signalized and 3- legged intersection is priority controlled. The Current study has been undertaken analyze the operational execution of the two intersections and to pave the way for forthcoming investigations related to improvement of the intersections in the Aligarh District region. Traffic data was accumulated on weekdays during peak periods (5:30 pm to 6:30 pm). Video recording was taken in consideration to accomplish this task. The traffic was categorized in 3 classes; light vehicles, heavy vehicles and bicycles. To execute the evaluation of functioning performance of both intersections, SIDRA INTERSECTION software has been used. Results have shown that both the roundabout and 3-legged intersection are operating nearly at their maximum capacities and Level of Service (LOS) is not adequate for such amount of traffic influx into both the intersections. Volume to capacity (v/c) ratio has revealed that both the roundabout and 3-legged intersection are in an unstable state and roundabout condition is worse than the 3-legged intersection as the heavy vehicle volume influx is quite higher for the roundabout.

Abstract:
Roundabouts are progressively being utilized on occupied arterial streets for traffic quieting purposes. Be that as it may, on the off chance that one indirect leg is close to a conveyance center point, for instance, stopping territories of strip malls, the passage traffic volumes will be especially high in pinnacle hours. On the basis of the Al-Turkman Roundabout, which is one of the most important roundabouts in Baghdad city, linking the areas of east of Baghdad to the city center in the area of Bab Al-Moatham. This area is characterized by its high traffic volumes (congestion), especially at peak periods causing a low level of service (LOS) with increased travel time delay, costs, and CO2 emissions. The research relied on the use of the SIDRA software to assess these variables by collecting traffic volumes in this area. The research proposed a series of planning procedures which are divided according to serial time scales. These planning procedures are to address the problem of congestion and traffic jams in the area, improve the level of service, and reduce travel time, cost and CO2 emissions. The research concluded that the application of the planning proposals in the study area has improved the level of service from E and F to C, reduced travel time by 16%, reduced costs by 25% and reduced CO2 emissions by 29%.

Abstract:
Intersections in urban areas can often cause significant traffic delays due to the multiple directions of traffic flow. The Kathmandu Valley experiences chronic gridlock and congestion. This study aims to improve traffic flow at two busy intersections (Kanti Children's Hospital and Shital Niwas) in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal through evaluation of the existing traffic flow condition and reducing delays and queues using various alternatives and including signal coordination. A survey was carried out to collect morning peak hour traffic volume and geometrical features of the two intersections and developed a signalized intersection model in SIDRA software. The model was validated based on observed and modelled queue lengths for each approach, and the existing performance of the intersections was evaluated. Various alternatives were then developed to improve the performance of the intersections. Results showed that coordinating the signal systems significantly reduced the average delay time and maximum queue length at both intersections. Specifically, the average delay time was reduced from 106 seconds per vehicle to 26.5 seconds per vehicle at the Shital Nivas intersection and from 43.1 seconds per vehicle to 21.7 seconds per vehicle at Kanti Children's Hospital intersection. Similarly, the maximum queue length was reduced from 744.7 meters to 122 meters at the Shital Nivas intersection and from 456.2 meters to 147.7 meters at Kanti Children's Hospital intersection.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The proposed development of Sibu Central hinges on the fact that it attracts high number of visitors from all over Sarawak. The development of Sibu Central would definitely improve the surrounding areas in future as Sibu Central will be one of the landmarks for Sibu. This development therefore will automatically generate more road traffic which will affect the performance of the existing road. The performance of the existing road was evaluated by two signalized intersections surrounding the proposed development of Sibu Central. It was carried out in order to determine the current traffic volume data, upon the completion of Sibu Central and 5 years after the development was completed. The road performance of Intersection 1 and Intersection 2 was analysed by using Sidra software. It was found that the existing road was still within the satisfactory performance, as the Level of Service (LOS) was in the range of LOS A until LOS D. This was due to the current traffic volume that was still under the capacity of the existing road which also influenced the satisfactory result for Volume by Capacity (V/C) ratio, average delay and queue length of all directions in Intersection 1 and Intersection 2. This result will not be adequate as the capacity of the road still remains unchanged due to the fact that the traffic volume keeps on increasing every year. The deterioration of the existing road in Intersection 1 and Intersection 2 was established in this study based on the performance of LOS, V/C ratio, average delay and queue length.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Closely spaced intersections can be specified as special types of intersections with short-distance characteristics that are generally located in urban areas. This study aimed to develop a sustainable transportation framework of machine learning algorithms to predict and minimize fuel consumption as a measure of environmental impact at closely spaced intersections. In the theoretical framework, this study incorporates key traffic parameters such as left-turn-lane length, cycle time, distance between intersections, left-turn movement ratio, and traffic volume fluctuations to model fuel consumption. In this context, different scenarios were modeled and compared with SIDRA Intersection (version 6.1), which is a well-known traffic analysis and intersection modeling software, by using partial least square regression (PLSR), polynomial support vector machine (PSVM), and artificial neural network (ANN) models to conduct a comparative analysis of their applicability. The results demonstrated that the ANN model best captured fuel consumption variations across different key influencing factors. Among all models, cycle time showed the highest sensitivity, highlighting its critical impact; the optimization of left-turn-lane length and cycle time is performed using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to minimize the impact of left-turns on fuel consumption. These enhancements promote more efficient and environmentally friendly traffic management. The integration of the predictive and optimized PSO-ANN model establishes a foundation for optimizing intersection performance. The findings indicate that an overall improvement of 8.9% in fuel consumption is achieved by evaluating the optimized parameters under varying traffic volumes. The proposed framework supports sustainable signalized intersection management by improving fuel efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the impact of geometry of central island of roundabout on operational performance in terms of delay and capacity measures. A roundabout with an elliptical central island having major and minor axes of 63 and 44m respectively was selected as a case study. Using SIDRA Intersection software two simulation models are developed while considering two geometric shapes of central island; one with an elliptical shape and the other with a circular shape. The peak traffic volume of each approach was assigned to both models as a preliminary simulation then twelve scenarios were generated by assigning identical lane volumes starting from a value that gave level of service A and increasing gradually to level of service F. In each scenario 100% of the volume assigned to an approach while the other was assigned with 75% of it and this process was reversed for every run. The results revealed that at high degree of saturation, the elliptical roundabout generally possessed a higher performance especially in term of delay and capacity compared to the circular roundabout. Furthermore, a parametric study was carried out through running eight more simulation scenarios to examine the impacts of heavy vehicle percentage (HV%) on the roundabout operational performance. The (HV %) started from 2% and increased to 12% with alternate approach virtual volume, and the results showed that performance of the elliptical roundabout was higher than the circular roundabout. However it was more susceptible to increase of HV% in term of control delay and capacity.
