Abstract:
In the article the fragments of the chronicle «Tarikh-i Mehmed Geray» of the Crimean historian Dervish Mehmed bin Mubarek Geray Chingizi, the content of which covers the description of the foreign policy of Peter the Great in the south at the end of the XVII century, are examined. The copy of the work has been preserved in the Austrian National Library. The material for analysis is the publication in Turkish of the master’s work of Ughur Demir «Tarikh-i Mehmed Giray» (assessment – transliteration of the text)» (consultant: Prof. Dr. Nejdet Oztürk, Istanbul, 163 pages). The translation from the Ottoman into Russian is carried out by R. Abduzhemilev. In the introductory part of the article, the source is described: the author’s personality, writing period, marking and volume of the manuscript, text script, and versatility of the contents. The works of the orientalists, where the chronicle is presented in the scientific-research context, are noted. The author focuses on the military campaigns during the reign of Peter I in the south at the end of the XVIIth century (the siege of the fortresses of Or, Dogan and Azak). The events described in the text: the struggle for the Or fortress, the refusal of Khan el-Haj Selim Geray to participate in the Ottoman campaign, the direction of the tsar’s troops from the north, the readiness of the troops of the Crimean Khanate to repel the siege, the negotiations of the parties, the siege of the Dogan fortress, the Azov fortress, an offensive from the sea, the defense of the strategic positions of the Crimean Khanate and Ottoman Empire.

Abstract:
AbstractC. F. Gellert's 1748 novel "Leben der schwedischen Gräfin von G***" portrays the moral actions of Jews as a result of good Christian conduct. In reaction, G. E. Lessing disputes this depiction in his one-act-play "Die Juden" from 1749. The recognition that a Jew could fulfill the ideals of the Enlightenment helped overcome the prejudices of Christian stage characters and of the audience, but it failed in the social circumstances of the time. Christian reception (J. D. Michaelis) understood a "noble Jew" to be a violation of the poetic principle of probability - and even for Lessing such a figure was the exception. Moses Mendelssohn, however, believed that Judaism was especially well-suited for fostering the development of certain virtues. In light of far-reaching interreligious concepts on the one hand and religiously motivated conflicts on the other, Lessing's early works reveal today the persistent value of self-critical examination concerning hidden prejudices towards religious and cultural minorities.

Abstract:
On 12 November 1745, the ad hoc militias of two peasant factions collided near Schmitzingen, a small village in the Black Forest country of Hauenstein, which constituted the southeastern quarter of the Habsburg province of Outer Austria. Several days before, the larger of the two forces had laid siege to Waldshut, the administrative seat of Hauenstein. The smaller band of peasants, recruited from cantons in the north of Hauenstein, had marched through the night to relieve the town. As it approached Waldshut, this relief force was ambushed, encircled, and routed. Two peasants died from wounds suffered in the melee, and many more were severely wounded.

Abstract:
The article describes the important moments of life and active political activity of one prominent female figure in the history of Transcarpathian region – Countess Ilona Zrínyi, who lived in Mukachevo in the 17th century and protected Mukachevo Castle from the Austrian invaders. The Countess' personality is also shown as a symbol of freedom and courage, which was especially emphasized during the siege of Mukachevo Castle by the Habsburgs in the second half of the 17th century (1685–1688). The article analyses eleven original letters written by Ilona Zrínyi before the siege of Mukachevo Castle. They testify to the connection between the Countess and the leadership of the Uzhanskyi and Berezhskyi counties (present-day territory of Transcarpathian region). They are stored in the Berehove Branch of the State Archives of Transcarpathian Oblast. These letters are important sources of evidence of Europe-wide history of our region. In the final part of the present article we have collected evidence based on press material and documents in the State Archives of Transcarpathian Oblast describing the so-called «Ilona-days», i.e. celebrations commemorating the personality of the great political and historical figure, Countess Ilona Zrínyi. All the official documents provide proof of the fact of how local people of Uzhanskyi and Berezhskyi counties (present-day Transcarpathia) loved and deeply respected the countess for her courage to fight for freedom against the Habsburgs, for her never-ending feeling of responsibility for her nation, and attentive care for her own motherland. During the siege of Mukachevo Castle with Ilona Zrínyi had her son, Ferenc Rákóczi II with her, who was still a child. The siege at that time taught the future leader of the liberation struggle of 1703–1711 to be courageous, and to love his motherland. Further research into sources related to Ilona Zríny’s activities may continue in the archives of Hungary and other countries as she unsuccessfully sought to form an international anti-Habsburg coalition. Keywords Countess Ilona Zrínyi, Mukachevo Castle, Transcarpathian history.

Abstract:
After Fort (Ostrog) Umrevinsky had lost its defensive and administrative function, a cemetery emerged on its place. Excavations were carried out near the northwestern and southern palisade and in the center of the fort. Eighty-three graves, located mainly in the southwestern and central parts of the cemetery, were excavated. Among them were three ritual graves of newborns––one under the southwestern corner tower on the river bank, and two others under a structure in the center of the fort. We have also excavated a collective grave of nine individuals––males and females of various ages. Based on several criteria, this grave is similar to those at Fort Albazin, where victims of the siege had been buried. Similar circumstances may have been involved at Umrevinsky. In the central part of the fort, a grave of a high-ranking uniformed teenager was found. Based on the totality of traits, two large spatially separated groups of burials are described, and their chronological sequence is assessed. Graves of the fi rst group date to 1740–1790; those of the second, to the early 1800s. Planigraphic analysis suggests that the structure in the center of the fort was likely the church of the Three Holy Hierarchs, known from written sources. The reasons why the cemetery was founded in the fort yard are discussed. The location of the place where the founders and pioneers are buried remains an open issue.

Abstract:
Gut capacity (wet mass of all digesta) was measured in the euro (Macropus robustus erubescens), the wallaroo (M. r. robustus) and the feral goat (Capra hircus). Gut capacity, as a proportion of body mass (mean+/-s.e.), was greatest (P<0.01) in the goat at 20.4+/-1.5%, 13.2+/-0.5% in the wallaroo, and 11.6+/-1.2% in the euro. Similarly, the mass of total fermentation contents was greatest (P<0.01) in the goat at 17.1+/-1.2% of body mass, 11.2+/-0.5% in the wallaroo and 10.6+/-0.7% in the euro. However, the allocation of the gut to various functions was similar among the species; the fermentation contents of the stomach were 70%, the small intestines were 9%, the caecum was 5%, and the colon was 9% of the total mass of digesta. There were no mechanisms in the gut of the two macropodids that selectively delayed digesta; the size distribution of digesta particles was similar in all sections of the gut. However, in the goat 25% of the dry matter from the ruminoreticulum was retained on 2.4- and 1.2-mm sieves, but no digesta from the other sections of the gut were retained on the 2.4-mm sieve and only 0.5-2% was retained on the 1.2-mm sieve. It was concluded that the goat has evolved a larger gut to meet higher metabolic energy requirements, but the allocation of the gut to various functions is similar among ruminants and macropodids, and this is a response to the evolution of herbivory in grasslands. The selective retention of large particles in the rumen, rumination and greater capacity account for the more complete digestion of plant cell wall by ruminants than by similar-sized macropodids.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this research is the development of a technology for the enrichment of slag from metallurgical processing of copper ore concentrate based on the results of spectral, chemical, sieve and petrographic analysis. The results of spectral analysis indicate the copper content in all three samples of mineral raw materials at more than 1 %. The results of chemical analysis indicated a high copper content in the samples from 13.4 to 17.1%, as well as a high iron content from 9 to 18%. Analysis of the results of the sieve analysis showed that the largest amount of copper is contained in the size classes 0.063–0.05 mm at from 18.6 to 24.1 % and 0.04 mm at from 15.6 to 38 %. In accordance with the petrographic studies, the size of copper grains varies from 0.1–0.3 to 1–5 mm. The most common sizes of copper grains in the studied samples are 0.2-0.3 and 1-2 mm. Based on the results of spectral, chemical, sieve and petrographic analysis, a technology for the enrichment of copper-containing slags has been developed. Gravity wet enrichment technology with a capacity of 5 t/h with Cu recovery in the range of 80–95 % suggests the grinding of raw materials with a constant water supply up to 40 m3/h from the sludge collector. The heavy fractions are fed to a magnetic separator and then to a classifier for the extraction of magnetic concentrate and slag, which after the separation of the fraction of 0.08-0.4 mm with the MVG screen can later be used as a raw material for the building industry. The light fractions after the concentration tables are fed to the classifier, on which the copper concentrate is released. The average density fractions are returned to the closed cycle for further grinding in a ball mill. However, such a wet enrichment scheme requires a continuous water supply and the sludge collector’s presence, which cannot always be ensured. Therefore, the technology of slag dry enrichment with a particle size of 0–100 mm has also been developed. The central apparatus in the proposed enrichment technologies is the MVG vibrating screen, which is designed to separate bulk materials by particle size from 20 microns to several millimeters. Polyfrequency oscillations in the frequency range from several Hz to kHz are implemented on the screen, eliminating blockage of the sieve cells, destruction of the formed aggregates of stuck particles, ensuring their intensive movement in the layer and efficient passage of particles reaching the sieve surface through the cells. This type of vibration makes it possible to achieve much greater efficiency of separation and dehydration of materials than in traditional screens and to ensure continuous self-cleaning of the mesh, which contributes to the process of separation and dehydration. Due to the lack of tension, high durability of the working surface is ensured. Due to the transfer of minimum loads on the base, the screen is installed without arranging special foundations, including on the floors of buildings and structures. A standard- sized row of screens was developed with a screening surface area from 1 to 4 m2 and a different number of tiers.

Three image indices are presented that characterize aggregates in a hierarchical scheme involving overall shape (or form), roundness of corners, and particle surface texture. The corresponding dimensionless image indices are called aspect ratio, angularity, and roughness, respectively. Calculating these indices requires that image-analysis techniques be used to find the following data for a sample of two-dimensional particle images: shortest and longest dimensions, perimeters, convex perimeters, and perimeters of ellipses with areas equivalent to those of the associated particles. To demonstrate the usefulness of these three dimensionless indices, selected sieve-size fractions for 25 fine-aggregate sources were subjected to image-analysis testing and to uncompacted void testing (ASTM C1252). Both uncompacted void contents and image-analysis indices could generally differentiate between natural sands and crushed fine aggregates. However, the image-analysis indices provided additional useful information. For example, the image-analysis results identified that two sources of crushed fine aggregates had relatively low uncompacted void contents because they had relatively smooth surface textures or relatively low aspect ratios. In addition, the image-analysis results were able to distinguish morphological differences between aggregate sources that were measured to have similar uncompacted void contents.

Abstract:
William Barton Rogers, conceptual founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, pursued two interrelated careers in nineteenth-century America: one centered on his activities in science and the other on his higher educational reform efforts. His scientific peers knew him as a geologist and natural philosopher, director of the first geological survey of Virginia, author of over one hundred publications in science, and promoter of professionalization. His colleagues in higher education, meanwhile, thought of him as the reform-minded professor at the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia, who later left the South and established one of America's first technological institutes. Comparatively little has been written about either of these areas of Rogers's life and career. We know much more about the scientific and educational thought of such figures as Louis Agassiz at Harvard, Benjamin Silliman at Yale, Joseph Henry at Princeton, and Alexander Dallas Bache at the helm of the Coast Survey. The literature on Rogers, by comparison, has offered little insight into his life and even less about his relationship to broader developments in nineteenth-century science and higher learning.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Prezentowany artykuł nosi tytuł Jerozolima w Maran Atha Johanna Gottfrieda Herdera (1779). J.G. Herder (1744-1803) należy do wybitnych postaci naszego regionu. Do mniej znanych dzieł Herdera należy zaliczyć komentarz do Apokalipsy św. Jana Maran Atha.

Abstract:
Responding to the critiques of the four previous authors, Walzer opens with a statement of the inherent imperfection of any theory of war. He reminds us that theories are merely frameworks for decisions and cannot provide answers in and of themselves. Moral decisions in war are especially difficult, for it is often necessary to choose between equally valid claims. Walzer continues the discussion of sieges initiated by both Koontz and Boyle and concedes the validity of Koontz's criticism of inconsistency in his theory of noncombatant immunity. Addressing the different authors' moral doctrines–Hendrickson's consequentialism and Koontz's and Boyle's deontology–Walzer argues that it is better to judge each case individually, weighing both the consequences and principles, rather than strictly adhere to one moral doctrine, an approach commended by Smith. Finally, in the search for a perfect just war theory, Walzer issues a realist reminder that there can be no such thing as a morally perfect war.
