Abstract:
The autobiography of Sigismund Neukomm is established, with annotations and commentary, from all the correspondence held at the Mozarteum, the Wiener Stadtbibliotheket and the BnF (a total of almost 140 letters, all of which are transcribed) as well as from the biographical information included in the most thorough catalogue of the composer's work (approximately 1200 entries). A transcription of this handwritten catalogue from the 19th century is accompanied by a detailed study of it and Neukomm’s canons are considered in the light of his biography. There follows a study of the biographical context, of the documents in which the 14 enigmatic canons are presented and of the symbolism of the canons themselves. The definitions of Albrechtsberer's composition treatise (1814) are used to take apart the enigmas and to analyze the canons: the inventio technique is shown to be consistent with the circular canons by tone and the workings of the paired-voices canons are explained. The study concludes by the analysis of an enigmatic canon composed by Neukomm, for Luigi Cherubini, which defies the rules of canon construction

Abstract:
The purpose of this essay is to examine whether visiting noblemen at the castles of Borgholm and Kalmar with their vast network of acquaintances can determine a tendency towards a political stance in the civil war of Sweden in the late 16th century. This is done by examining the guests and the company of the bailiff, born as a commoner but later governor and nobleman, Christoffer Gyllengrip Andersson, who in the end of the century would perish in the same manner as many of the peerage who fell at the bloodbath of Linköping in the year 1600. The networks are analyzed with the help of accountings and census records from the above mentioned castles between the years 1579-1592 whereon by the year 1593 the following national as well as local events will be analyzed and presented until the year 1600. The essay shows that allegiance to one or the other side can be seen to certain degree in the presented era delving into Kalmar Castle generally, allthough the true nature of one’s political ideals become most visible in the later 1590s when the noblemen actually are forced to take sides, instead of the double-agent poppycock of which they were in the antecedent decade of 1580. The essay shows that the information given by the census-records can be anchored in history’s more famous line such as when Olof Andersson Oxehufvud (one of many) is assigned as governor in the year 1594 to prevent the eminent empowerment of his uncle Karl, Duke of Södermanland, Närke and Värmland.

Bordeaux 3, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009BOR30021.

Full text
Abstract:
It’s about an analysis on the rhetorical theory in the fictional world of Persiles the Greek novel by Cervantes. Of the three aspects that conforms the rhetoric act in Aristotle’s, the logos, the pathos, and the Ethos, we choose the last one. We emphasize on Michel Meyer´s problemological rhetoric theory, as soon as we read the Persiles, as soon as we read Persiles, under an apocrítical glance, seeking how ethos responds to a question, a problem. In addition to the philosophers Meyer, Danblon we frequently resorted to speech analysts: Maingueneau, Amossy, among others. Ethos is looked for in the starring characters, for protagonists and some secondary characters. Since ethos is composed by phronesis, arétè and eunoia, we elaborated the relations between ethos and persuasive act in an analysis of Periandro´s story, its worth to say, how it uses the narration as a rhetorical strategy. We also elaborated the relations between ethos and lie, highlighting that they are allowing the main characters to be without arétè, and, regardless this, they gain ethos. As far as the word effective, we analyzed the relations between ethos and authority. To this we add the referenced critics of Persiles, who they have not addressed this issue, but whose analysis helps us understand the context and the singularities of Cervantes´final novel. The contributions of Casalduero, Romero Muñoz, Baena, Molho, Moner are invaluable; we enthusiastically took Lozanos Renieblas´, Pelorson´s and Nerlich´s interpretations. In conclusion, it is attempted to show how ethos aids the conformation of the world of the Greek novel, for which ethos of the cervantinian author displays, in ironic form, the relations between its work and its eponym: Las Etiópicas de Heliodoro

Abstract:
Sigismondo D’India, (1582? -1629?) a contemporary of Claudio Monteverdi, was one of the major composers of the early XVIIth century and one of the founding fathers of modern music. This thesis aims at setting him against a background which requires some reminiscing and updating, that of the court of Turin, where the musician settled between 1611 and 1623. It was the most fruitful period of his musical career, the study of which addresses three issues: music, patronage and nobiliary identity.I shall first study the movements of musicians, artists, printers and musical sources, and shall analyse besides some works by the composer. It appears that Sigismondo D’India, together a singer, a guitar-Player, a composer and a poet, stands out as one of the boldest and the most idiosyncratic musicians of his days. His musical career goes hand in hand with artistic patronage, which made his travelling easier, connected the various cities accommodating the musician and his dedicatees and facilitated creative emulation. The study of patronage through D’India’s creativity in music points out, among other things, the numerous relationships between him and his dedicatees. Finally, through the notion of nobiliary identity, I shall focus on the way in which the composer contributed to building up the cultural identity of a court while building up his own status as a nobleman. The nobiliary identity can thus be considered a first step toward national identity. I also aim at showing that D’India was perfectly up to the role of gentleman-Musician, and that his music contributed to building a model of urbanity

Abstract:

Abstract:
La Galatea and Persiles, two romances written by Cervantes, are frequently misunderstood because they do not establish the same relation with reality as in Don Quixote. They explore an imaginary space and seem to work in contradiction with the rule of verisimilitude and what we consider to be the foundation of the modern novel. After this assessment, the present study has been elaborated in order to understand the reasons for these special features in Cervantes's first and last books, a writer whose “ingenio” has often been praised. That is why, for a start, I will focus on the similarities between them and, first and foremost, I will contextualise them: the imagination and the imaginary will be the guiding principles. This work tries to show how these books are able to meet the readership's and the theoreticians' expectations. At the same time they explore an imaginary space, proving that it is possible to invent a free writing

Abstract:
The subject of the thesis are the documents of the canony of Teplá, as well as some aspect of the administration of the monastery in the Middle Ages, namely under the abbot Sigismund Hausmann (1459-1506). It contains, besides the introductory chapter, three main parts, treating the history of the monastery in the Middle Ages, its documents and its administration, respectively. In the introduction, the basic secondary literature and primary sources for the topic are introduced. In addition, the structure and the methodology of the thesis are outlined. The history of the canony from its foundation up to the year 1526 is given in the first part. The following turning points are chosen for the periodization: 1420, 1459, and 1507. The presentation is based mostly on primary sources and it is focused mainly on the later Middle Ages. The second section, devoted to the medieval diplomatics of the monastery, begins with the typology of the diplomatic material of the Premonstratensian canonies in Bohemia and Moravia. The treatment of the documents of Teplá is divided according to the extant types of material (charters, letters pattent, letters missive, cartularies, registers and the remaining official books). External as well as internal features of every diplomatic type are followed in three periods: to the...

Abstract:
The object of this diploma thesis is the incorporation of Luxembourg among the Lands of the Bohemian Crown. This theme was chosen primarily for the reason that it have not been compiled and analyzed by historiography so far. Available literature usually takes the incorporation of Luxembourg in the Bohemian Crown automatically as a fact without further reasoning. As a result of this approach there is considerable amount of inaccuracies and mistakes in literature. Primary inaccuracy is in a date or in a time period determining the incorporation of Luxembourg in the Bohemian Crown, when literature often indicate the reign of King Charles IV or even the reign of King John of Luxembourg. The purpose of this diploma thesis is not only analyzing the process of incorporation, but also disproves continuing inaccuracies. For this reason the diploma thesis draws and analyzes essential facts primarily from original sources and confront them with available literature. First chapter briefly introduces the institution of the Bohemian Crown for her distinguish from the Kingdom of Bohemia. Further it analyzes the terms "crown" and "incorporation". At last it describes a beginning of the Bohemian Crown and analyzes fundamental documents of this institution. Following second chapter describes the personal union...

Title: The Last Princess of Luxembourg. The Life Elizabeth of Görlitz in the Period between Years 1390 - 1425. Abstract: The thesis aims to describe the life of the last princess of the House of Luxembourg, Elisabeth of Görlitz. Based on an analysis of narrative and diplomatic material spanning between 1390 - 1425 it describes her life from birth until the moment she ultimately became a widow. Elisabeth of Görlitz (1390 - 1451) was the granddaughter of the emperor Charles the IV. and the Swedish king Albrecht I. During a significant period she used to be the only heir of the House of Luxembourg and therefore since her childhood she was an important woman from the political point of view. She married Anthony Duke of Brabant after several unsuccessful engagements. This marriage led Elizabeth to the Western Europe, where she spent the rest of her life. Thanks to this marriage, Luxembourg became the property of the newly married couple. After few years Anthony died in one of the most famous battles of Hundred Years' War - The battle of Agincourt. Soon after that, Elizabeth got married for the second time. Abstract:
DOCTORAL THESIS Ivana HERGLOVÁ --- KINGDOM OF BOHEMIA - NEIGHBOUR OF BAVARIA IN THE LATE MIDDLE AGES AND IN THE EARLY MODERN TIMES --- Abstract --- The thesis is dedicated to research in the field of Bavarian-Bohemian relations, mainly in the field of politics, in the 15th and early 16th century. Main interest is given to the contacts between the Kingdom of Bohemia and the four partial duchies into which Bavaria was subdivided in this period - (Lower) Bavaria-Straubing, Bavaria-Munich, Bavaria-Landshut and Bavaria-Ingolstadt. The work is divided into four large parts. The first goes on the Hussite Wars (1419-1434/36). The second part analyses Czech royal election of the year 1440 and the motives of the selected candidate, the duke Albrecht III of Bavaria-Munich, to finally decline the election. This chapter is followed by a summary of the political cooperation between Czech kings Ladislaus Posthumus (1453-1457) and George of Podiebrad (1458-1471) and the duke Louis/Ludwig IX of Bavaria-Landshut. The last chapter of the thesis describes the attempt of the Bavarian dukes (of the now reunited Duchy of Bavaria) William/Wilhelm IV and Louis/Ludwig X to become the kings of Bohemia as a part of their competition for hegemony in the middle European region with the house of Habsburg.

The work The Image of Jan Hus in the Early Modern Czech Literature tries to map different ways of description of this Czech preacher in selected literary texts from 15th to 18th century, to capture the changes which his image underwent. The chosen authors come from different countries and use different languages, represent different environments, social classes and opinion groups, they also have different education and religion. Individual literary works were assessedby means of comparing the key episodes that are either repeated in the texts, or the author intentionally did not use them. To understand the image of Jan Hus as a whole, also contemporary iconography was taken into account , which in some cases has been taken from other literary texts than those which were compared, so that the image of Hus whereas complete as possible. The comparison of the texts and iconography showed, how accurate the observation of the described scheme was and how the image of Jan Hus was gradually changing. The combination of written and iconographic material from specific time intervals allowed us to observe the gradual change of conceptions of the personality of Jan Hus and events connected with him, because the authors represent the opinion of their ethnic group and time.
