Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the study of internal crisis communication, not only the communication from the management to the employees, but also the employees’ communication with each other, in order to highlight the role of communication in the employees’ sensemaking during a crisis situation. Design/methodology/approach – The study was conducted as interviews with both managers and employees at a municipality in the Stockholm region, where a former employee had just been accused of embezzling approx. 25 million SEK. The interviews were analysed with particular interest to descriptions of how information was communicated, and how the sensemaking process developed. Findings – The crisis communication was successful when it came to informing external stakeholders and media. But the management and the employees had different views on the communication. The employees felt that management did not present all the information they needed, which made their sensemaking based on assumptions and rumours, and on the culture in the unit. Management interpreted that the crisis was not due to a culture problem, while the employees felt that there was a shared responsibility. Blaming the former employee was perceived as a way of dodging the cultural problems. Practical implications – Conclusions can be generalized into three points: first, differences between external and internal crisis communication need to be taken into account. Second, a crisis can strengthen existing patterns within a dysfunctional culture. Third, do not use single employees as scapegoats, putting all blame on them. Originality/value – The study shows the significance of culture and rumour as components of sensemaking in a crisis situation. The results should be applicable to most kinds of organizations, commercial or not.

Abstract:
Systematic analysis of the level of communication efficiency at an enterprise ensures its increased performance. Thus, it helps to establish long-term partnership relations with contact audiences and to form consumer loyalty in the external environment. As for the internal environment of an enterprise, the analysis of communication processes can reveal the “unformalized” relations between management and subordinates, determine the degree of autonomy of the individual units, evaluate the effectiveness of the feedback between the components of the management structure. It thus helps to establish effective communication processes within the enterprise. Therefore, assessing the effectiveness of communication processes at an enterprise is of particular significance. In view of this, the purpose of the article is to develop a methodological support for estimating the level of internal communications efficiency at the enterprise. The system of indicators for the internal communications assessment has been proposed, which includes quantitative and qualitative indicators and makes it possible to comprehensively assess the state and the level of internal communications efficiency. In order to assess the level of internal communications effectiveness, the methodological approach is proposed, which is based on the use of expert methods, taking into account logical rules for constructing functions of each element attribute and the process of internal communications. This methodological approach may be used at the industrial enterprises in order to determine the level of internal communications efficiency at the operating departments or at the enterprise as a whole.

AbstractVariability in the size of the dural sinuses and jugular bulb is not uncommon and usually manifests as a high jugular bulb encroaching upon the floor of the middle ear. A rarer entity is the superior and medial extension of the jugular bulb into the bone of the posterior wall of the internal auditory meatus. We report a case where this anomaly was encountered during acoustic neuroma surgery making exposure of the fundus of the internal auditory meatus technically impossible. The possibility of a communication with the superior petrosal sinus is discussed.

Abstract:
<em>Work effectiveness is the degree of achievement of an organization's goals based on the activities carried out. Work effectiveness is influenced by various factors including leadership, internal communication. The research objectives are: (1) to determine whether there is the influence of leadership and internal communication on work effectiveness (2) to find out how much influence leadership and internal communication have on employee work effectiveness both simultaneously and partially. The population of this study was employees of the Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang; it is 90 people. There are three variables studied in this study, namely: (1) leadership (2) internal communication (3) work effectiveness. Data collection methods used are questionnaires and documentation. The data analysis method used is the descriptive analysis of percentages and multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS for Windows Release 16. Based on the descriptive analysis, the percentage of leadership is 84.24% (very good category), the level of internal communication is 86% (very good category), while the level of work effectiveness is 78.78% (good category). Based on the calculation of multiple linear regression analysis also obtained F calculate of 17,234 with a significance of 0,000. Because the price of significance obtained is less than 0.05, the regression model obtained is significant. This means that the working hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, that is, there is the influence of leadership and internal communication on work effectiveness. The magnitude of the effect is simultaneously 28.4% while partially is 16% for leadership variables and 5.29% for internal communication. Based on the results of research, leadership and internal communication have a positive influence on work effectiveness. Leadership has a greater influence than internal communication.</em>

Abstract:
This contribution focuses on the issue of internal enterprise resources in the service sector. The level of opinion in top managers is being observed, respectively what significance is being attached by top managers of enterprises operating in service sector to internal enterprise resources from the perspective of their current and future situation. Statistically significant differences between the meaning of internal resources nowadays and in the future are being analysed and indicated via the pair Wilcoxon test on a testing set consisting of 255 enterprises within the service sector from the whole of the Czech Republic. Within the evaluation of the current situation top managers assign a high importance mainly to employee standards, financial resources, the name of the enterprise, management quality, service and marketing portfolio. Evaluating prediction of enterprise internal resources and their importance's future development has pointed to a relatively high growth of significance in enterprise strategy, enterprise education, marketing, and information and communication systems. Statistically significant differences from Wilcoxon test have been proven in employee education, enterprise strategy, information and communication systems and marketing standards. Indicated internal resources will gain greater dominance in the future, and they may significantly influence the existence of enterprises operating in service sector.

Abstract:
This paper studies a class of cooperative games, called graphical cooperative games, where the internal topology of the coalition depends on a prescribed communication graph among players. First, using the semitensor product of matrices, the value function of graphical cooperative games can be expressed as a pseudo-Boolean function. Then, a simple matrix formula is provided to calculate the Shapley value of graphical cooperative games. Finally, some practical examples are presented to illustrate the application of graphical cooperative games in communication-based coalitions and establish the significance of the Shapley value in different communication networks.

Abstract:
In creatures with external fertilization, e.g., metazoa, it is well established that there is precontact sperm-egg communication in the form of chemotaxis. An intriguing question is whether also in mammals, where fertilization is internal and the need for precontact sperm-egg communication is not self-evident, such a process occurs and what its physiological significance may be. Here we review the evidence related to such a process in mammals, evidence which suggests that sperm attraction to the ovulated egg may indeed occur. On the basis of the available data we propose a hypothesis, according to which a sperm population is heterogeneous with respect to its physiological state; some spermatozoa are at a physiological state ready for fertilizing an egg, while others are premature or overmature. According to the hypothesis this is a dynamic state; the population of fertilizing spermatozoa gradually loses its potency and, at the same time, other spermatozoa mature and acquire fertilizing ability. After ovulation, only the fertilizing spermatozoa are attracted to the egg, while the rest are either repelled or inhibited and thus prevented from reaching the egg. The potential significance of sperm-egg communication is discussed.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper was threefold: 1) to examine the internal factors influencing centralization of stock procurement processes, 2) to assess the relationship between demographic factors and staff understanding of Information Communication Technology (ICT) with performance improvement, and 3) to examine the relationship between prevention of corruption with management commitment. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 82 members of staff from procurement division in a South African municipality, with specific reference from the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Province. A census sampling method was used and a Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) software was used to analyse the data. The results indicate that ICT, planning tools, communication tools, inbound logistics, and staff competency are the most contributing factors influencing decentralized procurement process of stocks in a South African municipality. Although a hypothesis between performance improvement and gender was rejected, the study showed significance relationships between performance improvement with qualification (p=.035), experience (p=.000), and age (p=.000). It further proved that there is a significance relationship between understanding the ICT and performance improvement (p=.031) and that prevention of corruption is significantly related with management commitment (p=.001). Based on the results, the study recommends that a supporting internal control should be established to ensure that the centralization of stocks by procurement is executed by individuals with clear understanding of inbound logistics, clear communication, commitment, and comprehensive planning. Since the findings of this study are based on 82 members of staff from one South African municipality, it is recommended that a larger sample size may be used in future studies in order to improve accuracy of the results.

Abstract:
Communication in parallel applications is a combination of data transfers internally at a source or destination and across the network. Previous research focused on quantifying network transfer costs has indirectly resulted in reduced overall communication cost. Optimized data transfer from source memory to the network interface has received less attention. In shared memory systems, such memory-to-memory transfers dominate communication cost. In distributed memory systems, memory-to-network interface transfers grow in significance as processor and network speeds increase at faster rates than memory latency speeds. Our objective is to minimize the cost of internal data transfers. The following examples illustrating the impact of memory transfers on communication, we present a methodology for classifying the effects of data size and data distribution on hardware, middleware, and application software performance. This cost is quantified using hardware counter event measurements on the SGI Origin 2000. For the SGI O2K, we empirically identify the cost caused by just copying data from one buffer to another and the middleware overhead. We use MPICH in our experiments, but our techniques are generally applicable to any communication implementation.

Abstract:
Purpose In recent years, scholars, business practitioners and consultants frequently talk about building the networked enterprise. The purpose of this paper is to examine the connections between networked enterprises, organizational legitimacy and organizational performance. Design/methodology/approach A survey was developed that measured the following aspects of a networked enterprise: employees who network and communicate extensively via internal digital platforms across their organizations; leaders who actively use internal digital platforms to communicate with employees; leaders who actively communicate with stakeholders via external digital platforms; and an innovation culture. The survey measured the following forms of legitimacy judgments: moral; instrumental; and relational. Altogether, 501 executives and managers were surveyed (207 executives, 147 senior managers and 147 managers) in mid-to-large sized (over 500 employees) companies. Findings The analyses showed strong statistical significance for nearly all relationships. Internal communication on digital platforms, networked employee communication and an innovation culture all contributed to moral, instrumental and relational legitimacy. Leadership communication on external digital platforms (social media) was not a significant contributor to moral or relational legitimacy but was a significant contributor to instrumental legitimacy. Higher organization legitimacy was correlated with higher profit growth. Practical implications Leaders and communicators should prioritize a networked enterprise in several ways. They should actively communicate with employees on internal digital platforms. To be absent on internal digital platforms is a significant missed opportunity by leaders to build organizational legitimacy. Further, leaders and communicators should actively promote networked communication among employees as much as possible. Finally, leaders and communicators should communicate, model and reward an innovation culture. Originality/value There are no known scholarly studies that accomplish the following: empirically examine a model of networked enterprises comprised of vertical and horizontal communication and an innovation culture; and make connections between leadership communication on digital platforms in networked enterprises with legitimacy judgments. The large sample of contemporary executives and managers bolsters the strength of the findings.

Abstract:
Purpose of the study: to identify the dynamics of internal professional mobility (level of motivation, pedagogical reflection, innovation orientation, style of educational communication) of teachers ‒ participants of the program to increase internal professional mobility. They belong to the “Transitional” generation, which appeared in the Soviet Union and the “Information” generation, which was established in the period of perestroika. Methodology: The subjects of the study are high school teachers, Russia. The comparative psychodiagnostic method was used before and after the training program. The purpose of data collection was to fill in the methodology forms. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, methods for determining the significance of differences in indicators. Main Findings: Before the program, teachers of the “Transition” generation expressed a desire to retrain and be active in innovation, and teachers of the “Information” generation expressed a desire to make suggestions. The motivation to avoid failure prevailed in the groups. Pedagogical reflection prevailed among teachers of the “Transitional” generation. After passing the program, teachers began to show motivation for achievement and teachers of the “Information” generation increased their pedagogical reflection. Applications of this study: The research can be useful in the field of methodological support for improving internal professional mobility of teachers. Teachers must constantly change to offer new and interesting projects for students that belong to another generation. Internal attitudes, values, motivation, innovative orientation, and communication style of the teacher affect the success of students and reduce the stress of teaching activities. Originality of this study: the study complements the idea of the influence of the factor ‒ generation ‒ on balancing the pedagogical activity of teachers, their readiness to change, and their high motivation to new projects. The professional mobility program increases their subjective well-being and harmonizes educational communication between teachers and students.

Abstract:
The article studies the origins and the world historical experience of corporate communications branch which with the growth and globalization of large business in the early XX century was separated into an independent public relations sphere of activity. The attempt has been made to generalize and to structure the acquired theoretical material dedicated to this topic. Based on the analysis of English-language scientific sources the corporate communications concept is characterized and its connection with other related areas including media activities is studied. The object of the study is considered through a historical prism as a set of management and communication approaches of business organizations aimed at effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders, harmonization of relations with society, management functions implementation, brand promotion, and business development in general. The influence of the most important historical events, certain companies, and individuals on the corporate communications evolution is traced. It is described how the historical realities affected the establishment of the studied concept, the peculiarities of its implementation, as well as transformations in the modern business and social and communication environment. It is proved that the corporate communications history largely coincides with the general chronology of public relations but at the same time has its clear line. The maturity, global nature, rich content, and practical significance of this activity for both business and society are demonstrated. One of the conclusions is that corporate communications integrate a number of applied management functions, covering the various communication roles, activities and tools due to a set of historical factors, and public relations is a macro-phenomenon under the auspices of which corporate communications have been formed and continue to develop.

Abstract:
Information technology has an enormous influence in many enterprises. Computers have not only become important devices that people rely on in their daily lives and work, but have also become essential tools for enterprises. More and more enterprises have shifted their focus to how to prevent outer forces from invading and stealing from networks. However, many enterprises have disregarded the significance of internal leaking, which also plays a vital role in information management. This research proposes an information security management approach that is based on context-aware role-based access control (RBAC) and communication monitoring technology, in order to achieve enterprise information security management. In this work, it is suggested that an enterprise may, first, use an organizational chart to list job roles and corresponding permissions. RBAC is a model that focuses on different work tasks and duties. Subsequently, the enterprise may define a security policy to enforce the context-aware RBAC model. Finally, the enterprise may use communication monitoring technology in order to implement information security management. The main contribution of this work is the potential it provides to both reduce information security incidents, such as internal information leakage, and allow for effective cost control of information systems.

Combining tiny sensors and wireless communication technology, wireless body area network (WBAN) is one of the most promising fields. Wearable and implantable sensors are utilized for collecting the physiological data to achieve continuously monitoring of people’s physical conditions. However, due to the openness of wireless environment and the significance and privacy of people’s physiological data, WBAN is vulnerable to various attacks; thus, strict security mechanisms are required to enable a secure WBAN. In this article, we mainly focus on a survey on the security issues in WBAN, including securing internal communication in WBAN and securing communication between WBAN and external users. For each part, we discuss and identify the security goals to be achieved. Meanwhile, relevant security solutions in existing research on WBAN are presented and their applicability is analyzed.

Abstract:
The article discusses the problem of expressing emotions in social networks as a special case of adapting the digital space to the needs of users. Emotions, representing an integral (mental and physiological) reaction of a personality to a phenomenon or event, are an integral part of everyday life, reflecting a person's attitude to objects of external and internal reality in the direct form of experiences. The digital environment, expanding its influence, presupposes significant changes in many aspects of communicative behavior, including the manifestation of emotions. The main question posed in the article is whether in the digital space the “natural” is absorbed by the “artificial” through a fundamental transformation of traditional forms of communication? The article presents the results of an empirical study carried out by a questionnaire survey among students in Moscow. The research goal is to study the possibilities, methods, feasibility and features of expressing emotions in social networks. The subject of the research is the forms, nature, features of emotionality manifestations in the digital space. The research hypothesis is as follows: despite the main characteristics of digital communications (speed, brevity, promptness of information, accessibility), emotions inherent in ordinary human communication also find expression and transmission channels; at the same time, the manifestation of emotions with an obviously necessary change in the form and tools does not lose its significance while communicating in social networks. The results of the research presented in the article show that the emotional component of communication does not lose its relevance in the digital space. The need for the expression of emotions by users was quickly recorded by the creators and developers of social networks, who proposed a number of symbolic expressions of emotions to fulfill the need that arose. By the analysis of methods and possibilities of expressing emotions during communications in social networks, the article concludes about the adaptive characteristics of the digital environment for usual and, at the same time, necessary for a person communication attributes.

Abstract:
Volunteering has taken on growing significance as a benefit to society and in initiatives to promote sustainability; it is therefore important to understand the factors driving its success. One increasingly studied variable with a positive effect on volunteer behavior and retention is organization identification. The antecedents influencing the organization identification variable, however, have not yet been explored in the volunteer literature. We address this gap by implementing a survey among volunteers at the OUR HOUSE Grief Support Center in Los Angeles and analyzing results via simple and multivariate linear regression analyses. Specifically, we investigate whether or not communication factors affect both organization identification and volunteer intention to continue. We find that specific communication factors, including a relationship with one’s supervisor, internal communication, and external social media postings significantly increase the level of organization identification and retention. Our findings are consistent with the theories of leader-member exchange and absorption capacity. Practitioners and nonprofits can improve the organizational environment of volunteers by optimizing these communication practices.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a virtual meeting point where people from al1 over the world can meet and talk. On context new strategies for creating shared systems of significance, and strategies for constructing an identity, have evolved. These strategies consist mostly of linguistic resources, since the access to visual or auditory features such as appearance or accent, which are significant identiwcreating factors in face-to-face interaction, is quite limited. In this paper, and following the theoretical framework of social constructivism, it is analyzed how chat participants may develop and sustain an identity in IRC chatrooms by using several linguistic and/or graphic resources on the web.«Internet Relay Chat» es un lugar de encuentro virtual donde personas de todas partes del mundo se pueden encontrar y hablar. Design/methodology/approach On the basis of a systematic literature review, 53 key articles from 2010 to 2015 were further analyzed. Findings The literature review illustrates the potentialities of big data for corporate communication, especially with regard to the field of marketing communication. It also reveals a dramatic lack of research in the fields of public relations and internal communication with respect to big data applications. Research limitations/implications The online databases used in this paper comprised of refereed scientific journals with the highest impact factor in the respective disciplines. Journals with a lower impact factor and books were not included in the search process for this thematic analysis. Practical implications This paper provides a conceptual framework that describes four phases of strategic big data usage in corporate communication. The results show how big data is able to highlight stakeholders’ insights so that more effective communication strategies can be created. Originality/value This paper brings together previously disparate streams of work in the fields of communication science, marketing, and information systems with respect to big data applications in corporate communication. It represents the first attempt to undertake a systematic and comprehensive interdisciplinary overview of this kind.

Abstract:
The work opens the thematic issue «Digitalization and Novus Ordo Seclorum: International Relations and Geopolitics in Digital». The purpose of the article is to determine the features of the most fundamental phenomenon rooted in the digital metamorphosis of political regimes, sovereignty and geopolitics - the algorithmicization of power. As the main methodological optics, the principles of discourse analysis of scientific literature (including the works of the thematic issue) and the techniques of scriptwriters are used. The work emphasizes that algorithms are becoming a carrier of «structural violence» (an invisible, but real threat of sanctions against those who disagree with the current rules of digital communication). The power of algorithms is revealed in the fact that they begin to determine to the citizen what is best for him and what is not, including in the political sphere. At the same time, the one who owns the management algorithms that build communication processes and determine the interface, communication functionality, he has algorithmic power. Such accompanying phenomena of the algorithmicization of power as sociotechnical reality, predictive analytics, network policy, political interface, filtering bubbles and affordances are considered. It has been determined that in the new socio-technical reality (the phygital world), algorithms occupy the most important place, since it is they that fasten the Social with the Technical. The conclusions emphasize that digital sovereignty presupposes several components - the regime has its own network policy (communication arenas) and a political interface (software serving these communication arenas). The theoretical significance of the article is seen in the author's thesis, according to which algorithms, being constituent elements of software, bring the policy of ensuring digital sovereignty closer to different technologies of political legitimation of the regime - internal and external, top-down and bottom-up. In addition, the paper proposes scenarios for the evolution of algorithmic power. In addition, the practical significance of the study is seen in the fact that the work proposes scenarios for the evolution of algorithmic power.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the implications of Information and Communication Technology on Tax administration in the growth and development of Nigeria’s economy. Three research questions and three hypothesis guided the study. The study was a descriptive survey design with a population of 180 respondents randomly sampled and selected among the staff of Federal Board of Internal Revenue and State Board of Internal Revenue in Delta State. A six point likert type of questionnaire was developed, validated and administered to the respondents through simple random sampling technique. The responses gathered were coded and analyzed using independent t-test statistics for data analysis. Three null hypothesis were formulated and tested at critical t-test value of 1.96 at 0.05 level of significance. Based on the findings that resulted from this study, it was concluded that the availabilities of ICT tools/facilities, the use of Information and Communication Technology, and the presence of ICT tax administrators will lead to better, effective and efficient running of the day-to-day tax related activities, filing of tax returns, tax processing and computations of tax payment liabilities. It was also recommended that Government should equip the nation’s tax offices and agencies with adequate ICT tools and facilities and also seminars and workshops should occasionally be organized to acquaint tax administrators and the relevant tax agencies on the practical use and applications of ICT tools and facilities in enhancing tax compliance.

Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the practice of sensemaking in organizational conflict. It found out that during conflict, the sensemaking process has an important role in influencing the progress of the conflict. A conflict that has been evolving for years is inclined to turn into a crisis. The roles of the organizational and societal culture are therefore very important in KKSH. They do not only determine the communication process of the organizations with its stakeholders, but it also proposes the resolution for the conflict. Methodology: This study was based on a qualitative case study, a one-year research project to examine the crisis com- munication of a family-based organization. In this study, a number of 14 in-depth- interview transcripts were analyzed by using the pattern matching. The unit analysis of this study only used one major instead of using many cases. Results: This study has the advantage in terms of descriptions of the sensemaking process in the crisis caused by an organizational conflict. The findings of this study indicate the significance of cultural elements in the crisis communication caused by conflict among the organizational members. The use of local culture issue, therefore, fulfills the need for the crisis communication research based on the non-western approach. Implications: Therefore, the characteristics of the factors behind the conflict were investigated. Based on the study, it is highly recommended that in determining the solution of internal conflict, all the involved parties should understand the culture of KKSH. It is very important since the culture is already embedded in the attitude and behavior of all internal family members.

Abstract:
Prior research found that “1-in-X” ratios led to higher and less accurate subjective probability than “N-in-X*N” ratios or other formats, even though they featured the same mathematical information. It is unclear, however, whether the effect transfers into health decisions, and the practical significance of the effect is undetermined. Based on previous findings and risk communication theories, we hypothesized that the 1-in-X effect would occur and transfer into relevant decisions. We also tested whether age, gender, and education differences would moderate the 1-in-X effect on decision making. We conducted 3 well-powered experiments ( n = 1912) using a sample from the general adult UK population to test our hypotheses, estimated the effect, and excluded a possible methodological explanation for such a transfer. In hypothetical scenarios, participants decided whether to travel to Kenya given the chance of contracting malaria (experiment 1) and whether to take recommended steroids given the side effects (experiments 2 and 3). Across the experiments, we replicated a small to medium 1-in-X effect on the perceived probability (Hedge’s g = −0.36; 95% confidence interval [CI], −0.47 to −0.24; z = −6.18; P < 0.001) and found a small effect on subsequent decisions (odds ratio = 1.32; 95% CI, 1.10−1.59; z = 2.99; P = 0.003). The perceived probability fully mediated the effect of the ratio format on decision. Age, gender, and education did not moderate the 1-in-X effect on decision. We argue that a high prevalence of 1-in-X ratios in medical communication makes these small changes clinically relevant. Therefore, to communicate information accurately, 1-in-X ratios should not be used or at least used cautiously in medical communication.

Abstract:
The article reveals the main provisions of the concept of speech influence and describes its theoretical model, which was developed by well-known psycholinguist of the 20th century A.A. Leontiev. The main ideas of this concept are explicated within the scope of the problem of speech communication and conditioned by this verbal act processes of speaking of the communicator (speaker) and listening of the recipient (s). The speech influence is considered by the researcher of this problem at the level of the internal and external stages of the communicative-speech processes generation of the speaker and the recipient. That is why A.A. Leontiev pays great attention in this concept to the analysis of such psycholinguistic phenomena as: «value», «sense», «semantic field of the recipient», «sign», «internal speech», «internal programming», «act of speaking» etc. The article reveals the following aspects: a) established by A.A. Leontiev evolution of the forms of communication and its psychological and semiotic mediation; b) separated by him stages of the historical formation of the activity of communication, in particular its final stage – the speech effect, which becomes a professional activity, motivated «from inside the self»; c) distinguished by the researcher notions of «speech» and «speech activity», d) defined by him the notion of «communication» and its varieties, e) associated with orientation – the criterion of speech communication – speech effect, which is characterized as one of the aspects of psychological content of communication, g) identified by three parameters phenomenon of the sign and applied in its interpretation two methods of scientific analysis important for a deep understanding of speech influence used, through the processes of understanding (the transition from a sign to the thought) and through the objectification of the subjective communicative intention (the transition from a thought to the sign) and other important provisions of the proposed concept. The content of this manuscript also describes the psycholinguistic model of speech effect, which, according to the author, has statuses or psychological actions, or appears as an independent activity with its own motive, has a feedback, acts in various forms of interference with consciousness and subconscious of the personality, etc.; the ways of achieving changes in the recipient’s existing values under the influence of the content of communicator’s speech are represented; the three-layer psycholinguistic structure of the speech influence is substantiated. In the debating section of the article, it is suggested to consider the scientific work of A.A. Leontiev concerning the speech influence as a psycholinguistic theory, by taking into account its theoretical and practical significance for modern science and communicative practice.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between birth order and marital communication patterns in conflict resolution among women in Nakuru West Constituency, Nakuru County, Kenya. The research adopted an eclectic theoretical approach using attachment and standpoint theories to address the aspects of the study. The research utilized the survey research design. The study targeted a population of 152,257 women from which a sample of 384 respondents was drawn by stratified random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to collect primary data, while secondary data was obtained from on-line County records. The researcher applied descriptive (finding and tabulating the mean, standard deviation, internal reliability scores and cross-tabulation) and inferential statistic on the quantitative data collected. To test the set parameters the researcher calculated some series of equations like Chi Square and Karl Pearson Correlation to test the assumed prediction of birth order. Statistical Package for Social Sciences - SPSS version 22.0 was used to analyze collected data. The study yielded 85.4 per cent response rate. All posited hypothesis were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study indicated that there was a strong positive relationship between Birth-order and marital communication patterns in conflict resolution among women that is significant at 5 per cent levels of significance. Therefore, the researcher accepted the alternative hypothesis stating that Birth-order has a statistical significant relationship to marital communication patterns in conflict resolution among women in Nakuru West Constituency, Nakuru County, Kenya. The researcher recommends that adequate parenting should be given when raising children so as to raise responsible individuals who can be responsible and considerable partners in the future. Parents should be fair when distributing responsibilities and offering opportunities to their children irrespective of their birth order.

Abstract:
The exploration of pragmatic competence has been endowed with theoretical and empirical significance for half a century, yet a common framework is still under investigation from different perspectives. First, this article conducts a critical review of the investigation of pragmatic competence in communicative ability theory, the function-discourse model, the componential and meaning-driven model, and the relevance-theoretic model. Based on the merits and demerits of these proposals and their relation with Chomsky’s dichotomy of grammatical and pragmatic competences, an integrated model of pragmatic competence (IMPC) is reformulated for thought and communication, focusing on the interactions among various organism-internal submodules under the current minimalist framework and their interactions with outside sociocultural factors. Finally, a comparison is made between the integrated proposal and the theory and models.

Abstract:
This paper explores the process of constitutional dialogue through the consideration of anarea of case law—separation of powers—where the U. S. Supreme Court issued significant decisions in the 1980s and where there was much discussion among the Court's attentive listeners about the significance of the legal changes represented in the Court's opinions. The implications of the separation of powers cases were not well understood by “the interpretive community.” Many observers believed that the Court was prepared to dismantle the administrative state, abandoning its long-standing precedent supporting independent regulatory agencies. This outcome did not occur. Using internal memoranda, briefs, court opinions, and other public documents, I explore the manner in which this institutional communication took place and the factors that interfered with the ability of the Court to express clearly its intent and its audience to understand that intent.

Abstract:
Purpose – This study reports on a survey of experienced emergency management personnel in Australia and New Zealand to identify the influence of organisational features in perceived emergency management performance. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the influence of organisational features in emergency response performance and to discuss how this knowledge can be used to enhance the response capacity of emergency services organisations. Design/methodology/approach – Based on a review of the literature, a conceptual theoretical model for organisational performance is first developed based on four organisational features found to be previously important in emergency management organisation. These are, adaptability, leadership, stability (mission and direction) and stakeholder communication. An organisational survey was distributed to all 25 fire and emergency services agencies in Australia and New Zealand which included indicators of these elements. Responses were received from experienced emergency management personnel from fire and emergency services agencies. The sample was stratified into the three main organisational types, namely, established, expanding and extending organisations. Findings – The findings reveal that the predictive significance of organisational features in emergency response performance vary among established, expanding and extending organisations. The predictive significance of stability, adaptability and leadership for perceived success is strong in all organisational types. It is interesting to note that the predictive significance of communication with external stakeholders is low in all organisation types. This indicates the preference of emergency services agencies to look internally within their own operations than externally to build relationships with different specialism. Originality/value – The theoretical model in this study makes a first attempt to understand the role of organisational features in emergency response performance of organisations in Australia and New Zealand. This work contributes to theorizing emergency operations by highlighting how organisations need to manage two orientations simultaneously: their own internal as well as external orientations, together with their processes for managing both mission and direction and the need for change and flexibility.

Abstract:
Nowadays, with the continuous integration of production network and business network, more and more Industrial Internet of Things and Internal Office Network have been interconnected and evolved into a large-scale enterprise-level intraindustry network. Terminal devices are the basic units of internal network. Accurate identification of the type of device corresponding to the IP address and detailed description of the communication behavior of the device are of great significance for conducting network security risk assessment, hidden danger investigation, and threat warning. Traditional cyberspace surveying and mapping techniques take the form of active measurement, but they cannot be transplanted to large-scale intranet. Resources or specific targets in internal networks are often protected by firewalls, VPNs, gateways, and other technologies, so they are difficult to analyze and determine by active measurement. In this paper, a passive measurement method is proposed to identify and characterize devices in the network through real traffic data. Firstly, a new graph structure mining method is used to determine the server-like devices and host-like devices; then, the NAT-like devices are determined by quantitative analysis of traffic; finally, by qualitative analysis of the NAT-like device traffic, it is determined whether there are server-like devices behind the NAT-like device. This method will prove to be useful in identifying all kinds of devices in network data traffic, detecting unauthorized NAT-like devices and whether there are server-like devices behind the NAT-like devices.

Abstract:
In the research of the past decade, Russian sociologists are increasingly turning to communication theories in the discourse of constructing social reality and actualizing the meanings of the modern socio-cultural environment. According to the author, one of the most promising, although not devoid of internal contradictions, is the “Theory of coordinated control of meaning” by W.B. Peirce and V.E. Kronen. Appearing in American science in the second quarter of the twentieth century as a philosophical project, it quickly became the methodological basis for many empirical experiments. The purpose of this study is to present the management perspectives of this theory in the context of Public Dialogue as a project implemented in the late 90’s of the XX century in Cupertino (California). The corresponding range of tasks is also outlined here, namely, to show how ontological theory becomes the basis for building a social technology for managing interaction processes in the urban environment and what management resources were used to achieve the final goal of the project. In the conclusions, the significance of communication as a primary social process is formulated, which determines the expansion of six concepts as the basis of the “grammar” of the theory of coordinated meaning management.

Abstract:
The British Miners’ Strike of 1984–1985 represents one of the most pivotal periods in British industrial relations. The significance of media stance towards the miners remains a controversial issue today, as attested by recent publications looking back at the strike (Williams, 2009a, 2014). Here, authors including miners, journalists and other commentators argue that media coverage of the strike followed a consistently anti-trade union agenda in which the media sought to destabilise the strike. An internal British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) report, only recently made public, shows that the BBC themselves had concerns over possible imbalances in their coverage of the so-called ‘Battle of Orgreave’ (Harcup, 2014). Despite the weight attached to media coverage in this context, however, surprisingly little research has been conducted from a discourse-analytical perspective to show systematically and empirically how such an agenda may have been manifested across media texts. In this article, drawing on Cognitive Linguistic Critical Discourse Studies (CL-CDS), I show how one particular metaphorical framing of the strike, which construed the strike as a war between the State and the National Union of Miners, persisted through the year-long period and consider the potential ideological functions of this framing in media strategies of (de)legitimation. I show how this metaphor featured in linguistic, visual and multimodal forms of media representation.

Abstract:
Introduction The Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ) is a questionnaire designed to assess the auditory experience and quantify hearing disabilities in realistic communication situations, with particular attention to binaural hearing. Objective To determine the test-retest reliability of the SSQ in Brazilian Portuguese. Method A total of 35 individuals with mean age of 61 years and mean education of 7 years were interviewed. The mean auditory threshold was 44.29 dBNA in the best ear and 58.04 dBNA in the worst ear. The SSQ in Portuguese was applied at two time points, test and retest. An interval of 7 to 20 days between interviews was established. The level of significance adopted was 0.05, or 5%. Results The analysis revealed a high Cronbach α coefficient for the three domains and for the general component of the scale, demonstrating good internal consistency between the items. In addition, a significant strong correlation was detected between test and retest of the SSQ on the analysis by domain and for the general component of the scale. A significant moderate-to-strong correlation between test and retest by question was found, except for question 2 of Part I. Conclusion The test-retest reliability indicators showed good stability of the Portuguese version of the SSQ, indicating that the scale is suitable for use in the hearing-impaired population in Brazil.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: The Indiana CTSI is investigating innovative approaches to integrate resources that will enrich scientific investigators. Our goals are to enhance the availability and communication among CTSI resources, for example internal funding, and to expand existing mentorship. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Developed a reviewer database that serves to streamline reviewer identification, decrease reviewer fatigue, and promote collaboration among disciplines. We started with a pool of NIH-funded investigators from across the Indiana CTSI core institutions and merged this list with previous CTSI reviewers and internal funding awardees. To expand this list, names and expertise from new faculty hires were added. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Though this tool is relatively new, we have already observed an increase in junior faculty awareness and engagement with the CTSI. This database allows for increased opportunities of junior faculty to serve as reviewers and to refine grant writing skills and provides a platform for networking and collaborating across disciplines. It also allows for increased integration of programs with a shared reviewer database and promotes grant review standardization. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPACT: Our database utilization seeks to decrease the time for junior faculty to obtain their first extramural grant, to enhance promotion and tenure packages, strengthen integration among CTSI programs, increase interactions between clinical and basic science investigators, and promote team science.

Abstract:
Corporate Governance (CG) has become a paramount issue due to its greater significance of practicing accuracy, maintaining accountability, establishing effective internal control and regulating organizations for achieving organizational goals. The study is conducted to explore the relationship between corporate governance and firm performance with considering the role of board and audit committee. The multiple liner regression analysis is used as the underlying statistical test on the dependent variables, ROA, ROE and TQ to test the association between the independent variables (board size, board independence, size of audit committee and audit committee composition) with firm performance. Homogeneous purposive sampling has been used. The sample size of the study is 81 listed companies in DSE. The results of the study signify that board independence ratio and audit committee is statistically significant and has positive impact on ROA and TQ. But it is not statistically significant in the case of firm performance indicator ROE in this study. In addition to, Board size is not statistically significant and has negative correlation with firm performance due to group dynamics, communication gaps and indecisiveness of larger groups.

Abstract:
This theoretical research specifically emphasizes personal resilience phenomenon. Children’s social activity is something that draws its significance from themselves; they must have a well-developed sense of personality and a clear understanding of their own role (their personal responsibility) in their closest social environment. A mentee (a child from an orphanage) needs to shape his/her own personal identification; as a person, he/she should be able to count on his/her own developed resources such as resilience, and internal personal position towards the choice of lifetime values. The article is a reflection on an approach to understanding the meaning of the personal growth conditions including the ways of structuring the teaching process that provides for the personal growth; a detailed model of interactions between eight structural components of an educational system as a social demand (state component), a targeted resilience buildup (projection component), a mentee (a child) (organization component), an educator preparedness (knowledge component), scientific and teaching information (constructive component), educational means of communication (communicative component), a tool of assessment (assessment and reflective component), and a follow-up educational system (prognostic component).

Abstract:
ABSTRACT IMPACT: Results will inform the design of health information technologies that assess and improve clinicians’ interpersonal communication supporting co-management of care across health institutions. OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Poor communication and co-management of comorbidities during the referral process increase physician workload, patient burden, and safety risks. In this preliminary study, our objective was to understand how consultants’ notes support physician collaboration within and across health care institutions. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: We reviewed medical records. Accessing the Indiana Network for Patient Care database, consultation notes were randomly selected from four specialties: cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, rheumatology, and oncology. These specialties were identified, in advance, as challenging in interprofessional communication. The notes reviewed were associated with in-person consultations at a medical network in the Midwest from 2016 to 2019, including internal and cross-institutional (i.e., external) referrals. The Quality of Consult Assessment tool was adapted to assess note quality and co-management facilitation. Two researchers reviewed all records independently. A consensus meeting was then held to discuss and resolve discrepancies. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Medical records of ten patients with comorbidities were reviewed. The mean age was 67 (SD= 12 years); one patient was a child. All consultation notes contained clinical recommendations. Seventy percent of notes referred to explicit consultant responsibilities. Conversely, only one contained explicit responsibilities for referrers. Medical records denoted reliance on support staff to send messages among referrers, consultants, and patients via phone calls and facsimile. The use of fax machines to send medical records to referrers was more prominent after cross-institutional consultations. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF FINDINGS: Clinical documentation supported specialty referrals for transitions of care rather than co-management of care. Accessing medical records across institutions contributed to a lack of clinical context, and workflow inefficiencies, when attempting to co-manage clinical care.

Abstract:
AbstractObjective:This study sought to better understand the patient s perspective of the experience of recovery from cancer that appeared to defy medical prognoses. Methods:Fourteen cases of medically verified exceptional outcomes were identified. A qualitative approach, employing long narrative interviews was used. Data was analyzed using a cross case thematic analytic approach. Results:The major overarching theme was connections, both internal and external. Internal included connections with God or a higher power and with oneself. The external connections, the focus of this paper, included 1) personal connections with friends and family, 2) connections with the medical system: the physician, nurses and other staff, and 3) connections with other patients. They described the nature of these relationships and the importance of frequent contact with family and friends as providing significant emotional and instrumental support. They expressed confidence in receiving care from a reputable clinic, and with very little probing illustrated the importance of the relationship with their providers. They articulated the significance of the compassionate qualities of the physician and identified communication attributes of their physician that were important in establishing this connection. These attributes were demeanor, availability, honesty, sensitivity in the decision making process. They provided examples of positive connections with nurses and other staff as well as with other patients through their illness process.Significance of results:The importance of connections in these illness narratives was richly illustrated. These issues often are overlooked in clinical settings; yet they are of crucial importance to the health and well-being of the patients.

Abstract:
For constructive communication, it is important not only to know and take into account the individual characteristics of students and one’s own, but also to have methods of constructing optimal strategies of pedagogical influences. To do this, future teacher of foreign languages must focus on the formation of self and students' communicative qualities, the ability to adequately assess interpersonal relationships. The specificity of pedagogical activity determines the special significance of socio-professional qualities that contribute to interpersonal and role interaction of teachers and students. These include reflexivity, flexibility, empathy, communication, ability to cooperate, emotional curiosity. Pedagogical reflection is the use of all characteristics (thinking, aimed at understanding and comprehension of their own forms and prerequisites; substantive consideration of knowledge, critical analysis of its content and methods of cognition; self-knowledge, revealing the internal structure and specifics of the spiritual world), which allows teachers to see their work from the position of another person. Pedagogical reflection determines the teacher's attitude to oneself as a subject of professional activity. The ability to contrast, compare self-awareness with the assessments of other participants in the interaction helps the teacher to understand how one is perceived and evaluated by other people – students, colleagues, parents. The formation of a culture of professional and pedagogical communication involves the meaningful assimilation of the norms of the future teacher of foreign languages with students, parents, colleagues. Guided by these norms, the teacher adjusts one’s emotional perceptions, will, personal manifestations of character. The culture of communication of the future teacher of pedagogy presupposes the emergence of a dialogue in which each participants’ expression is meaningful to all. During dialogic communication, the subject moves not only from the outside to the inside, i.e. internalization, but also from the inside to the outside, thus creating equality of interlocutors. This understanding of pedagogical communication is based on a respectful attitude to the student as an equal participant in the dialogue with the teacher, the subject of communication. Constructive communication with students largely depends on how emotionally the teacher perceives what is there behind on the available facts. The main thing is to understand the state of the student, their mood and adjust oneself to the perception of emotions. It is necessary to be able to let the student know that adults see, hear, understand them. The main product of communication on the basis of such a skill is understanding that includes the ability to predict the logic of actions and behavior according to a certain position, the ability to accept messages, highlighting the main and secondary facts, arguments. The ability of an individual to empathize (the level of its formation may be different) is characterized by such parameters as the peculiarities of its directivity, breadth, stability, effectiveness of manifestations.
