Abstract The performed examinations concerning the process of filling the plaster ceramic moulds with aluminium alloys allowed to assess the influence of various methods of introducing the metal into the mould cavity on the macro- and microstructure of the obtained experimental castings. The comparison was performed for castings with graded wall thickness made either of EN AC-44000 alloy or of EN AC-46000 alloy, produced either by gravity casting, or by gravity casting with negative pressure generated around the mould (according to the Vacumetal technology), or by counter-gravity casting. In the present work, a 2-pole linear electromagnetic stirrer (LEMS) is developed to study the effect of stirring during solidification of aluminium alloys. The stirrer design entails the placement of a stack of coils around the mold to generate a primary motion that recirculates along the longitudinal direction. The stirrer is first tested and validated by measuring the electromagnetic forces on solid aluminum cylinders of different diameters as a function of excitation current. The alloy to be stirred and solidified is placed in a cylindrical graphite mould located in the annulus of the LEMS.

Aiming at exploiting the impact of filling rate and pressure difference on thin-wall product during filling stage of differential pressure vacuum casting (DPVC) process and based on Yeoh model, a finite element mathematical structure model of silicon rubber is proposed. Employing nonlinear Finite Element Method (FEM), the impact of soft moulds deformation on products dimensional precision during different pressure difference is studied. Finally, the experiment carried out on a sample machine verifies that the solution of established finite element mathematical structure model of silicon rubber

As a new fabrication technique based on rapid prototyping, vacuum casting process can be especially used in the stage of products development. In this paper, a self-designed and made silicone mould was used to study process of vacuum casting panel part. ProCAST software was adopted to analyze the melt flowing behavior and effects of processing parameters. The key vacuum casting parameters, such as mould temperature, melt temperature, degree of vacuum and coefficient of heat transfer, on the effects of the filling rate of polymer melt were emphasized to be numerical studied. Aluminum-Silicon alloys are sought in a large number of automotive and aerospace applications due to their low coefficient of thermal expansion and high wear resistance. The fine structure of Si precipitates is controlled by forced solid solution structure obtainable by rapidly solidification techniques [1, 2, 3]. Present study focuses on precipitation of silicon in Al88Si12 as a function of temperature by dilatometer analysis. Different structures out of equilibrium have been obtained after casting in sand, black-lead and steel mould and by melt spinning. The average value of the activation e

Al–Si alloys are among the most popular casting metals. Two-component aluminium alloys with silicon are not suitable for direct use after melting. Subject to their silicon content, Al Si alloys have a coarse-grained eutectic phase, and alloys with more than 13% Si content also feature large crystallites or β-phase needles. The β-phase is hard, but also fragile. Large crystallites are good planes of division, and they reduce the mechanical properties of alloys. In this study, the Al-9% Si alloy was refined with a sodium modifier. The modifier was added to the mould by the in-mould method. The mo

The carried out studies took the form of laboratory experiments using physical model, in which – using similarity criteria – the behaviour of interfacial boundary liquid steel-liquid slag has been simulated using water and silicon oils, differing in physicochemical properties.
