Abstract:
Chaetopelma Ausserer 1871 and Nesiergus Simon 1903 are revised. Cratorrhagus Simon 1891 is considered a junior synonym of Chaetopelma. Cratorrhagus tetramerus (Simon 1873) and the female of Cratorrhagus concolor (Simon 1873) are conspecific with C. olivaceum (C. L. Koch 1841). Ischnocolus gracilis Ausserer 1871, Ischnocolus syriacus Ausserer 1871, Chaetopelma shabati Hassan 1950 and Ischnocolus jerusalemensis Smith 1990 are also treated here as junior synonyms of C. olivaceum. Chaetopelma adenense Simon 1890 is proposed as a junior synonym of Ischnocolus jickelii L. Koch 1875. Chaetopelma gardineri Hirst 1911 is transferred to Nesiergus. Hence, Chaetopelma comprises three valid species: C. olivaceum (C. L. Koch 1841); C. karlamani Vollmer 1997; C. concolor (Simon 1873) n. comb. from the Middle East and northeastern Africa. Nesiergus, which appears endemic to the Seychelles archipelago, now comprises three valid species: N. gardineri (Hirst 1911) n. comb.; N. halophilus Benoit 1978; N. insulanus Simon 1903.

The Philodromus pulchellus species-group is defined and diagnosed. Eleven species are included, described or redescribed, keyed and illustrated: P. afroglaucinus, sp. nov. from Algeria; P. bistigma Simon, 1870, P. glaucinus Simon, 1870, P. lamellipalpis, sp. nov. from Algeria; P. medius O. P.-Cambridge, 1872; P. pardalis, sp. nov. from northern Africa and the Iberian peninsula; P. pulchellus Lucas, 1846, P. punctigerus O. P.-Cambridge, 1908, P. ruficapillus Simon, 1885, P. simoni de Mello-Leitão, 1929, and P. wunderlichi, sp. nov. from the western Canary Islands. The validity of P. bistigma and P. medius is re-established (formerly in synonymy with P. pulchellus); neotype and lectotype, respectively are newly designated. The following new synonymies are proposed: P. torquatus O. P.- Cambridge, 1908 = P. pulchellus; P. salinarum Denis, 1939 = P. glaucinus; P. glaucinoides Wunderlich, 1987 = P. punctigerus; P. marionschmidti (Schmidt, 1990) = P. pulchellus. Philodromus albopictus Simon, 1875 and P. rubidus Simon, 1870 are considered nomina dubia. Determination of phylogenetic relationships within the group is difficult owing to continuous character variation, resulting in partially incongruent reconstructions using morphological and molecular data (partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I gene). Dispersal vicariance analysis provides support for a western Mediterranean origin of the group.

Abstract:
A survey of the members of the genus Clubiona Latreille, 1904 in the Maghreb is presented. The presence of Clubiona comta C. L. Koch, 1839, C. dinienis Simon, 1878, C. leucaspis Simon, 1932, C. phragmitis C. L. Koch 1843 and C. vegeta Simon, 1918 is confirmed. Clubiona pseudosimilis Mikhailov, 1990, from the eastern Mediterranean is new to Africa and Portugal. A specimen of C. neglecta O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1862, cited from Morocco in the past, was misidentified and appears to be C. pseudoneglecta Wunderlich, 1994. The species is new to Algeria and Spain. Two new synonyms are revealed: Clubiona baborensis Denis, 1937 from Algeria = C. diniensis Simon, 1878 N. Syn. and Clubiona venusta Pavesi, 1880 from Tunisia = Selamia reticulata (Simon, 1870) N. Syn. Clubiona mandibularis Lucas, 1846 is considered a Nomen dubium. The comta group is redefined and the “genevensis subgroup” is elevated to species group, including two subgroups. A key and illustrations to the species of the genevensis group are presented and all the species occurring in the Maghreb are illustrated.

The fauna of Udubidae and Zoropsidae of Sri Lanka is reviewed, the families are diagnosed and a distribution map is provided. The udubid genus Campostichomma Karsch, 1892 is diagnosed and redescribed, C. manicatum Karsch, 1892 is redescribed, and we propose three new species, based on females: C. harasbedda sp. nov., C. mudduk sp. nov. and C. alawala sp. nov. Abstract:
This thesis aims to make a significant contribution to our understanding of the history of biblical criticism in the seventeenth century. Its central objective is to put forward a new interpretation of the work of the Oratorian scholar Richard Simon. It does so by placing Simon's work, above all his Histoire critique du Vieux Testament (1678), in the context of the great increase in critical study of the text of the Bible that occurred after 1620. The problems and questions that confronted European scholars at this time were profound, as new manuscript discoveries combined with existing learned and polemical debates in such a way that scholars were forced reconsider their opinions on the history and text of the Old Testament. Rather than study these works solely in the discrete tradition of the history of scholarship, however, this thesis shows why they have to be considered in the context of the print culture that made their production possible, the confessional divisions that shaped and deepened the significance of their philological arguments, and the intellectual cooperation, exchange, and disagreement that determined how contemporaries understood them. The results of this research contribute to existing scholarship in several significant ways, of which four stand out for special emphasis. First, through extensive archival research it markedly revises our current understanding of the work of Jean Morin, Louis Cappel, Johannes Buxtorf II, and Richard Simon. Second, it shows that the history of biblical criticism must consider the work of Catholic scholars in the same level of detail as Protestant scholars. Third, it breaks the link between innovative philological and historical work and radical theological or political thought. Fourth, it calls into doubt the current consensus that seventeenth-century scholarly life is best understood through the concept of the international and inter-confessional 'Republic of Letters'.

Notre travail se compose de deux chapitres. Dans le premier, nous faisons la distinction entre la notion de causation, fait que quelqu'un ou quelque chose fait en sorte qu'un etat de choses se realise, et de causalite, specifiant que tout a une cause. Ensuite, nous rendons compte des travaux de kayne, zubizarreta ainsi que de l'hypothese de jackendoff en mettant en evidence leurs limites. Dans le deuxieme, nous presentons la thorie de la grammaire fonctionnelle de dik dont les composants syntaxique et semantique font partie du cadre de la pragmatique. En deuxieme lieu, nous demontrons, grace au test de la negation de l'effet, qu' une distinction s'impose entre les causatives et les structures apparentees telles que celles de requete et les permissives. En troisieme lieu, nous analysons la question de la formation des predicats causatids avant d'etudier les trois types des causatives et les questions ayant trait aux etats de chose de celles qui ont des predicats-input, a la causation directe indirecte et intentionnelle non-intentionnelle, au degre de controle de l'argument cause, et, enfin, aux regles des causatives. This work is divided into two chapters. In the first one, we establish a distinction between the notion of causation, the fact that some one or something brings it about that a state of affairs obtains, and tht of causality, specifying that everything has got a cause. Then, we account for the some tretments of causative structures within the contemporary linguistic theories. In the second chapter, we first present the theory of functional grammar of simon c. Dik. The syntactic and semantic components of this theory are part of the pragmatics framework. Thus functional grammar does not restraint the notion of grammar in isolated sentences, but is shows that thos sentences may take place in coherent context. Second, thanks to the effect detachment test, we show that it is necessary to establish a distinction between causatives and similar structures as requestives and permissives. Third, we analyse the question of causative predicates formation, before studying the three types of causatives. We end this chapter by studying the illocutionary force and the ordre of constituents. In the conclusion, we justify our choice of functional grammar

Cette thèse a pour objectif d’analyser le discours orientaliste de Saint-Simon et des saint-simoniens en s’appuyant sur les analyses de l’orientalisme moderne d’Edward W. Said. Celles-ci s’inscrivent en faux contre une forme de compréhension de l’Autre — saisi dans son extériorité — et contre la tendance « occidentale » à fixer l’identité et la nature de ce même Autre dans diverses catégories dont la source est puisée dans la propre culture des observateurs « critiques ». Dans un premier temps, afin de comprendre la problématique de Said, ce travail tente d’examiner les thèses de son Orientalisme tout en prenant en compte les limites de certaines de ses analyses souvent présupposées ; analyses que je cherche à confronter au discours de Saint-Simon et des saint-simoniens. Dans un deuxième temps, je me propose de lire Saint-Simon comme transition sociale en analysant de l’intérieur un discours qui s’inscrit dans une perspective européocentrique de l’histoire des civilisations. Finalement, cette recherche tente de l’analyser les discours des saint-simoniens sur l’Orient et leurs diverses représentations « orientales », inspirées par une foi indubitable dans le progrès de l’histoire et guidées par une certitude de pouvoir sceller la réconciliation de l’Orient et de l’Occident à partir de la propagation de la doctrine saint-simonienne. Les représentations des saint-simoniens sur l’Orient, même si elles ont leurs propres caractéristiques, différentes de celles du discours orientaliste dominant de l’époque, se révèlent inscrites dans les mêmes limites de la vision expansionniste de l’occident au détriment de l’Orient : européocentrisme, absence d’accès à la société orientale, légitimité de l’occupation, etc. Ce travail se propose de montrer que le discours saint-simonien sur l’Orient se rapporte davantage aux saint-simoniens eux-mêmes — c’est-à-dire, à leur doctrine, à leur vision et à leur désir — qu’à la réalité des Orientaux. Dans la plupart des cas, pour les saint-simoniens, les Orientaux sont l’objet de leur entreprise, mais non leur partenaire
The objective of this study is to analyze the orientalist discourse of Saint Simon and the Saint-Simonians on the base of the analyzes of the modern orientalism by Edward W. Said that criticize the understanding of the Other whiche, based on the notion of exteriority, tends to fix the identity and the nature of the Other in various categories formed in his own culture. Firstly, in order to understand the problematic of Said, this study tries to examine the discussions of the Orientalism and their limits whose analyzes are assumed, in this work, to contribute to better understand the discourse of the saint-simoniens. In the second part of this work, it is important to regard the ideas of Saint-Simon as that of social transition and to examine his discourse which is part of a eurocentric perspective on the history of civilizations. Finally, the study tries to analyze the discourse of the Saint-Simonians about the Orient, which consists of various representations inspired by their belief in the progress of the history and in the reconciliation of the Orient and the Occident by their Saint-Simonian doctrine. These representations show the same part of the limits of the expansionist vision of the Orient as the orientalism of the period even though they have their own characteristics that are different from those of the dominant orientalist discourse of the period: eurocentrism, lack of access to the oriental society, legitimacy of the occupancy etc. This work intends to show that discourse of the saint-simoniens on the Orient is related more to themselves than the Orientals considering that the Orient is generally excluded from their discourse on the Orient

AbstractIn this chapter, I extend Shannon’s linear model of communication into a model in which communication is differentiated both vertically and horizontally (Simon, 1973). Following Weaver (1949), three layers are distinguished operating in relation to one another: (i) at level A, the events are sequenced historically along the arrow of time, generating Shannon-type information (that is, uncertainty); (ii) the incursion of meanings at level B is referential to (iii) horizons of meaning spanned by codes in the communication at level C. In other words, relations at level A are first distinguished from correlations among patterns of relations and non-relations at level B. The correlations span a vector space on top of the network of relations. Relations are positioned in this vector space and can then be provided with meaning. Different positions provide other perspectives and horizons of meaning. Perspectives can overlap, for example, in Triple-Helix relations. Overlapping perspectives can generate redundancies—that is, new options—as a result of synergies.

Adam Easton, a monk of Norwich cathedral priory and a doctor of theology of Oxford University, accompanied Simon Langham to the papal Curia in 1369 after Langham had been elevated to the cardinalate. Easton remained at the Curia and in 1378 witnessed the turbulent election of Urban VI in Rome, which led to the Great Schism of the western Church. In 1379 Easton’s testimony concerning the circumstances of this election was solicited twice. Following his promotion to the cardinalate by Urban in 1381, Easton became involved in a conspiracy involving five other cardinals against the pope. He was the only cardinal to survive and to be reinstated. These two episodes form the main subjects of the chapter. An appendix prints Easton’s first testimony along with marginal comments deriving from adherents of Urban’s rival as pope, Clement VII of Avignon, that seek to undermine it. The text illustrates the nature of contemporary debate concerning the validity of the election of Urban VI and the legitimacy of the respective claimants to the papacy.

John P. Wolfe of the University of Michigan devised (Organic Lett. 2010, 12, 1268) conditions for the diastereocontrolled cyclization of 9 to 10. Abstract:
Venezuela is a country with a great deal of water sources, as a consequence of its location in the Amazon Basin. In spite of this, about 1.6 million inhabitants are dispersed in remote regions throughout the nation, where water distribution is problematic due to the lack of this resource. Since 2007, The Institute of Energy of the Simon Bolivar University has been focused on the development of a 25 liters per day single stage solar Multi-effect Humidification (MEH) desalination plant using a flat plate solar collector. Once the construction of the prototype plant was completed, the characterization of its different components was performed. The one related to the solar collector unit was done on a testing rig designed and constructed according to the ANSI/ASHRAE 93-2003 standard requirements. In order to optimize the operation of this equipment is necessary to maximize the exergetic change of the working fluid across the solar collector, to achieve this objective a numerical simulation using a predictive algorithm and an available yearlong meteorological data was performed. The prediction algorithm was validated against experimental data obtained from the characterization tests. The numerical results obtained were in good agreement with previous related researches. It was found that the best way to operate the solar collector in remote areas and ensure the maximum exergetic gain of the working fluid was to maintain a fix mass flow rate of 0.006 kg/s (0.36 LPM). This corresponds with the climate conditions at Simon Bolivar University and an admission temperature of 54°C, which is the design value of the desalination plant.

Based on Silicon on Insulator (SOI) and Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) technology, a single-crystal silicon piezoresistive strain gage was fabricated and constituted by silicon substrate, a thin SiO2 layer by Separation by Implantation of Oxygen (SIMOX), an optimized boron ion implantation doping layer photo lithographed to discrete piezoresistors, stress matching Si3N4 layer, and metallization scheme of Ti/Pt/Au as beam lead layer for connecting piezoresistors to be Wheatstone bridge configuration. A special buried SiO2 layer with the thickness of 367 nm was fabricated by the SIMOX technology, which replaced p-n junction to isolate the piezoresistors from the bulk silicon substrate, so this kind of single-crystal silicon strain gage can be used in many harsh fields under high temperature up to 350°C. By the single-crystal silicon strain gage packaged on the metallic circular flat diaphragm, and along with other thermal treatments and compensating methods, a high temperature pressure sensor has been developed with the pressure range of 0–120 MPa under high temperature above 200°C. The testing results show that the sensor has good static performances under 200°C and fine dynamic characteristics to meet the requirements of the modern industry, such as petroleum and chemistry, mobile industry, military industry, wind tunnels, materials processing.
