A recent study [1] has discussed the accuracy of the nodal elastic stresses of zero thickness interface elements when fictitious elastic parameters (often called penalty stiffness factors) are used. These stresses, commonly used to calculate the triggering conditions of the opening of the interface simulating a discrete crack in quasi-brittle materials, are affected by non-negligible errors if the in- terfaces are embedded in unstructured/irregular meshes. A procedure to avoid these errors has been proposed for homogeneous materials [1] and bi-material interfaces [2]. Accurate nodal stresses a

This paper sheds light into the effect of the periodic pattern of bricks and mortar joints on the load-carrying capacity of the interface between fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites and masonry. Two simplified cohesive material laws are proposed for the FRP-mortar and FRP-brick interfaces, which allow for the computation in closed form of a finite effective bond length Leff of the interfaces. The aforementioned simplified interfacial laws are employed to compute the load response of the FRP-masonry interface, and to obtain the interfacial shear stress, the FRP axial strain, and the slip

The role of the geometry of prefractal interfaces in Laplacian transport is analyzed through its "harmonic geometrical spectrum." This spectrum summarizes the properties of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator associated with these geometries. Numerical analysis shows that very few eigenmodes contribute significantly to the macroscopic response of the system. The hierarchical spatial frequencies of these particular modes correspond to the characteristic length scales of the interface. From this result, a simplified analytical model of the response of self-similar interfaces is developed. This mod
