Abstract:
VE is frequently seen as a luxury management tool with a high implementation threshold which potential adopters may find intimidating. How to implement VE in the face of various objective conditions and resource situations is a critical issue for increasing the breadth and depth of VE implementation. The paper develops an innovative Office VES (OF-VES) for use by public agencies suffering from insufficient financial, human or technical resources. OF-VES can be used by smaller public administration departments to successfully reduce the threshold for resource-poor public administrations to implement VES, thus promoting the application of VE.

Abstract:
It has been a long while since skin surfaces and skin lesions have been examined by dermoscopy. However examining the hair and the scalp was done again recently and gained attention and slight popularity by the practical tool, namely trichoscopy, which can be called in a simplified way as a dermoscopy of the hair and the scalp. Trichoscopy is a great tool to examine and asses an active scalp disease and hair and other signs can be specific for some scalp and hair diseases. These signs include yellow dots, dystrophic hairs, cadaverized (black dots), white dots and exclamation mark hairs. Trichoscopy magnifies hair shafts at higher resolution to enable detailed examinations with measurements that a naked eye cannot distinguish nor see. Trichoscope is considered recently the newest frontier for the diagnosis of hair and scalp disease. Aim of this paper. The aim of this paper is to simplify and sum up the main trichoscopic readings and findings of hair and scalp disorders that are commonly encountered at clinic dermatology settings.

Abstract:
In this paper two-way orthogonal-diagonal double-layer space grids structure is assumed as equivalent sandwich plate, and has been analyzed by the non-traditional theory of plate with three generalized displacements, in which shearing deformation is considered. Based upon the split rigidity method, static analysis and natural vibration analysis of two-way orthogonal-diagonal double-layer space grids structure has been studied and the simplified formulas are given out. The comparison with the results of equivalent sandwich plate method shows that as a more simplified method, split rigidity method is as accurate as equivalent sandwich plate method.

We analyzed the rectangular slab with four sides supported, respectively elastic and plastic methods of calculation the slab. Generally considered l2/l1≤2 calculated as the two-way slab, 2< l2/l1<3 should be calculated as the two -way slab, however l2/l1≥3 calculated as one-way slab, consider these provisions is not reasonable, analysis shows, if using elastic or plasticity theory analysis, l2/l1 <3, or l2/l1 <4 as the two-way slab. Otherwise, it is one-way slab. Reasonable distinction between one-way slab and two-way slab are meaningful, not only simplifies the calculation, but also makes the design economical, safe and reliable.

Full text
Abstract:
We propose a unidimensional two-way continuous-variable quantum key distribution protocol with coherent states, where the sender modulates a single quadrature of the coherent states rather than both quadratures to simplify the structure of a two-way system. Security analysis is performed with a general attack strategy, known as two-mode attack, which helps to reduce limitations in the analysis. The performance of the protocol under all accessible two-mode attacks at fixed distance is illustrated. Further, two typical two-mode attack strategies are obtained from it, which are one-mode attack strategy and optimal two-mode attack strategy. Between them, the one-mode attack is the simplest form of the two-mode attack, while the optimal two-mode attack is the most complicated one. Simulations show that though the system is simplified, the performance of the two-way protocol with unidimensional modulation is still comparable to that of the counterpart with Gaussian modulation even against the optimal two-mode attack when Eve’s ability is maximized. Thus, the proposed protocol simplifies the two-way system while guaranteeing its performance to a certain extent. Especially in a practical system with short transmission distance and high excess noise, the protocol has a good application prospect.

Abstract:
The method of calculating the bearing capacity of rolling bearings is described in the ISO 281 standard. The calculation procedure for roller thrust bearings presented there, depending on the value of the nominal bearing angle, requires the selection of one of two formulas. Then, using the table, one reads the value of the factor depending on the geometry of the bearing components. To facilitate and speed up calculations (and perhaps also increase their accuracy), this article proposes a formula that is adapted to numerical applications, replaces linear interpolation with a proper non-linear function and allows calculations to be made for a specific value of the nominal bearing angle, but not within the range of 15°. The difference between the values calculated according to the proposed formula and the value calculated according to ISO 281 is, on average, around 3%.

Abstract:
We present a simplified treatment of templates used to summarize the topological properties of chaotic attractors bounded by a genus-1 torus. The reduction is based on determinism and flow continuity, which impose tight relations between torsions of each branch, rotations between pairs of branches and the order in which they join at the branch line. This way, the number of integer parameters necessary to characterize a template can be reduced. Apart from the purely theoretical interest, the new treatment simplifies the procedure for template determination starting from a time series, with a consequential save in computation time.

Abstract:
This study is devoted to radio wave propagation modeling in the urban environment. Special attention has been paid to the features of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. For the first time, the three-dimensional bidirectional parabolic equation (PE) method has been applied to the specified problem. Buildings and other obstacles are modeled by impenetrable (perfectly electric conducting) cuboids. A harmonic radiation source with an arbitrary direction pattern may be modeled. Numerical simulation is performed for various propagation scenarios. A comparison with the ray-tracing (RT) method is given. The results of the numerical simulation prove the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method. Some recommendations for deploying VANETs are obtained based on the numerical results.

Abstract:
Transducers constitute a fundamental extension of automata. The class of regular word functions has recently emerged as an important class of word-to-word functions, characterized by means of (functional, or unambiguous, or deterministic) two-way transducers, copyless streaming string transducers, and MSO-definable graph transformations. A fundamental result in language theory is Kleene’s Theorem, relating finite state automata and regular expressions. Recently, a set of regular function expressions has been introduced and used to prove a similar result for regular word functions, by showing its equivalence with copyless streaming string transducers. In this paper, we propose a direct, simplified and effective translation from unambiguous two-way transducers to regular function expressions extending the Brzozowski and McCluskey algorithm. In addition, our approach allows us to derive a subset of regular function expressions characterizing the (strict) subclass of functional sweeping transducers.

Full text
Abstract:
The conventional Kirchhoff integral, based on the two‐way wave equation, states how the acoustic pressure at a point A inside a closed surface S can be calculated when the acoustic wave field is known on S. In its general form, the integrand consists of two terms: one term contains the gradient of a Green’s function and the acoustic pressure; the other term contains a Green’s function and the gradient of the acoustic pressure. The integrand can be simplified by choosing reflecting boundary conditions for the two‐way Green’s functions in such a way that either the first term or the second term vanishes on S. This conventional approach to deriving Rayleigh‐type integrals has practical value only for media with small contrasts, so that the two‐way Green’s functions do not contain significant multiple reflections. We present a modified approach for simplifying the integrand of the Kirchhoff integral by choosing absorbing boundary conditions for the one‐way Green’s functions. The resulting Rayleigh‐type integrals are the theoretical basis for true amplitude one‐way wave‐field extrapolation techniques in inhomogeneous media with significant contrasts.

Abstract:
One-way clutches have been proposed for vehicle alternators. The clutch can play an important role in reducing vibrations of the vehicle engine accessory system, but the severe vibrations of the clutch subsystem limit its stability and durability. This paper investigates the nonlinear vibrations of a one-way clutch between the accessory pulley and the alternator shaft. The one-way clutch is modelled as a discontinuous stiffness system, and the simplified model is analyzed using discontinuous transform to determine the periodic, primary resonance and the sub and super harmonic resonance solutions. The typical system model is numerically solved and the spectrum and phase plots are characterized. The results give a big picture of and insights into the nonlinear vibration features of one-way clutch system. A relevant US patent is pending.

Abstract:
PurposeThe paper aims to question the post‐rational observations and traditional constructions of strategy in terms of what they achieve and what they fail to achieve, and seeks to reconstruct strategy as a multi‐dimensional, dynamic concept.Design/methodology/approachFor this purpose, the study uses and interrelates the dualities between continuity principle and discontinuity principle, knowledge and imagination, opportunity exploitation and opportunity exploration, and conformist innovation and deviant innovation. The paper makes explicit, through the notion of performance paradox, the context for the framework that results from the mutual relation of these four dualities.FindingsThe paper finds that failure to understand these dualities and their interrelatedness will ensure that strategy will remain largely an illusive, unexplained and rhetorical concept. It demonstrates that the greatest benefit of understanding these dualities and their interrelatedness is that it can show how organisations should be by illuminating who they might be.Research limitations/implicationsThe paper identifies opportunities for innovation, research and reflection by establishing the need for balancing the seemingly conflicting opposites of these interrelated dualities and ways in which they can be located on their strengths.Practical implicationsThe paper suggests that the understanding that emerges from the treatment of strategy as a multi‐dimensional, dynamic construct, allows organisations to align the corporate, business and functional dimensions more effectively in making progress and receiving more in terms of the results they want to achieve.Originality/valueThe paper introduces a radical shift in thinking, arguing for a move away from simplified, unbalanced, static constructions of strategy that focus on one‐dimensionality, asymmetry and post‐rationalisation.

An untrusted relay system combined with a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) scheme is considered in one-way and two-way relaying transmission strategies. In the system, two source nodes can only communicate with each other via an untrusted energy harvesting relay node, which sends the message by using its harvested energy from the source nodes. Specifically, we classify the intermediate relay as an eavesdropper into two modes: active eavesdropper and nonactive eavesdropper, depending on whether it has sufficient energy of its own to transmit the message or not. Under a simplified three-node fading wiretap channel setup, the transmit power allocation and power splitting ratio are jointly optimized to minimize the outage probability in the delay-sensitive case and to maximize the average rate in the delay-insensitive case, subject to the average and peak total power constraints. Applying the dual-decomposition method, the optimization problem can be efficiently solved in the delay-sensitive scenario. Moreover, an iterative algorithm is proposed to derive the solution to maximize the average rate in the delay-insensitive scenario. Numerical results demonstrate the performance of system outage probability in the two modes versus different rates and how efficiently the secrecy rate is improved compared with traditional schemes.

Abstract. In this paper three-way double-layer space grids structure is assumed as equivalent sandwich plate, and has been analyzed by the non-traditional theory of plate with three generalized displacements, in which shearing deformation is considered. Based upon the split rigidity method, static analysis and natural vibration analysis of three-way double-layer space grids structure has been studied. The formulas for calculating internal forces, displacement as well as natural vibration frequency are given out. The comparison with finite element method and equivalent sandwich plate method shows that the formulas in this paper are not only simpler than other simplified methods but also of high accuracy.

Abstract:
In the last decade, the computing power of computers has significantly increased, which enabled very detailed and accurate numerical static non-linear analyses of reinforced concrete structures to be carried out using sophisticated commercial software. However, higher risk of errors, both in the calculation inputs and algorithm, is linked with the increased detail and accuracy of numerical modelling. For this reason, it is convenient to verify the results provided by sophisticated software using simplified analytical approaches. In order to provide a tool for quick and easy verification of results provided by sophisticated software, a novel web-based application employing simplified analytical methods has been developed by the authors of this paper. This web-based application is capable of quick and easy calculations of bending moments in reinforced concrete two-way slabs. For the calculation of bending moments, the Marcus Method is employed. This method introduces a correction coefficient to the Rankine-Grashoff Theory of Equal Deflections in order to account for the torsional restraints at the corners of the slab. These analytical methods are algorithmized and implemented using the JavaScript programming language. A graphical user interface for the input of data and for the interpretation of results is created using the HTML markup language. The novel web-based application is freely available and works on all common devices and operating systems. From the presented results, it is clear that the novel web-based application is quick, easily available, user-friendly, and intuitive. The web-based application can be used for the verification of the calculated bending moments during the design of a reinforced concrete two-way slab.

Abstract:
With the continuous development of indoor positioning technology, various indoor applications, such as indoor navigation and emergency rescue, have gradually received widespread attention. Indoor navigation and emergency rescue require access to a variety of indoor space information, such as accurate geometric information, rich semantic information and indoor spatial adjacency information; hence, a suitable 3D indoor model is needed. However, the available models, such as BIM and CityGML, mainly represent geometric and semantic information of indoor spaces, and rarely describe the topological adjacency relationship of interior spaces. To address the requirements of indoor navigation and emergency rescue, a simplified 3D indoor model is proposed in this research. The building components and indoor functional spaces of buildings are described in a simplified way. The geometric and semantic information are described based on CityGML, and the topological relationships of indoor adjacent spaces are represented by CityGML XLinks. While describing the indoor level of detail (LOD) of buildings in detail, the model simplifies building components and indoor spaces, which can preserve the characteristics of indoor spaces to the maximum extent and serve as a basis for indoor applications.

Abstract:
A general approach is proposed for modeling the structure of an r × s contingency table and for drawing marginal inferences about all parameters (e.g., interaction effects) in the model. The main approach is relevant whenever rs − r − s + 1≥5. The approach may also be used to check the adequacy of Rasch’s multiplicative Poisson model. In general, the posterior estimates of the cell probabilities compromise between the cell frequencies and the fitted values obtained under the reduced model in the spirit of Leonard (1975) . It is also possible to compute reasonable approximations to the full posterior densities of many parameters of interest, following Leonard (1982) and Tierney and Kadane (1984) . All prior parameters are evaluated with the assistance of the data via a hierarchical Bayes procedure, thus reducing the subjectivity involved in the analysis. An r × s cross classification of 5,648 Marine Corps clerical students by school and test grade is analyzed in detail, and the posterior densities of the 96 possible interactions are used to suggest a simplified structure partitioning and collapsing the table into a meaningful 3 × 2 table.

Abstract:
We present the 10-item Simplified System Usability Scale (SUS) for Cognitively Impaired and Older Adults, which we have used in several studies since 2016. The Simplified SUS is a revised version of the SUS, a brief, psychometrically valid, and widely used global measure of usability. To improve the ease of administration, the Simplified SUS rewords 9 of 10 SUS items and replaces the original SUS question about inconsistency with a question about confusion. The Simplified SUS retains the SUS's 10-item design, five-item agreement-based Likert scale, and alternating valence of positively worded odd items and negatively worded even items. Because of this, the Simplified SUS can be interpreted the same way as the traditional SUS. The Simplified SUS is an example of an off-the-shelf human factors method adapted for work with vulnerable populations and usable by practitioners or researchers without human factors training.

Abstract:
Dynamic analysis of large-scale flow networks is made difficult by the large system of differential-algebraic equations resulting from its modelling. To simplify analysis, the mathematical model must be sufficiently reduced in complexity. For self-similar tree networks, this reduction can be made using the network’s structure in way that can allow simple, analytical solutions. For very large, but finite, networks, analytical solutions are more difficult to obtain. In the infinite limit, however, analysis is sometimes greatly simplified. It is shown that approximating large finite networks as infinite not only simplifies the analysis, but also provides an excellent approximate solution.

Abstract:
We show with simplified numerical models, that for the kind of RBMK operated in Chernobyl: The core was unstable due to its large size and to its weak power counter-reaction coefficient, so that the power of the reactor was not easy to control even with an automatic system. Xenon oscillations could easily be activated. When there was xenon poisoning in the upper half of the core, the safety rods were designed in such a way that, at least initially, they were increasing (and not decreasing) the core reactivity. This reactivity increase has been sufficient to lead to a very high pressure increase in a significant amount of liquid water in the fuel channels thus inducing a strong propagating shock wave leading to a failure of half the pressure tubes at their junction with the drum separators. The depressurization phase (flash evaporation) following this failure has produced, after one second, a significant decrease of the water density in half the pressure tubes and then a strong reactivity accident due to the positive void effect reactivity coefficient. We evaluate the fission energy released by the accident

Frame-bent structure is usually used in the power plants, and in many cases the bent part of it is usually simplified as an articulated bar. To prove the rationality of this simplification, in this paper, two models of one frame-bent structure are built and let them experience earthquake waves from different directions by the mode-superposition response spectrum way, then the shear that each column bears can be calculated .Through the data we get ,the judgment about the rationality of the simplification way can be made
