Abstract:

Projekti Uvale Scott i Haludova ponudile su dvije različita interpretacije urbaniteta turističkih kompleksa; prvi kroz koncept simulacije tradicijskih ambijenata, a drugi kroz simulakrum elemenata povijesnog grada.

Abstract:
Aesthetization, or aestheticization, has recently become a new key word in scholarly debates about culture and society, roughly concerned with the kind of phenomenon that pictorial turn describes. It is not that aesthetization, in its literal sense, is making the unaesthetic aesthetic, nor does it point to the sort of topics typical of an aestheticized human life as favored by some traditional Chinese intellectuals; rather it is about a transaesthetization. This process differs not just in the range and extent of aesthetization, but in its essence and nature: reality will no longer exist when it is transaesthetized and what is left is an aesthetic realm only; in other words, there will be no reality, but purely the hyperreal. Accordingly, transaesthetization can then often be associated with the concept of simulacrum, or the proliferation of images; it would thus result from the expansion of simulacra. However, there arises the problem that simulacrum is not identical with image. Assuming that the beauty of image consists in its rich connotations and its presentation at the level of form, it is doubtful that transaesthetization is configured merely by the simulacra. Why, and how could it be so?

Abstract:
Buttonscarves is a hijab fashion brand that targets Muslim women belonging to the middle and upper social classes. Through the Instagram account @buttonscarves, this hijab fashion producer attracted consumers’ attention by constructing narratives that shape distinct realities. This study delves into how the Buttonscarves’ narratives on the @buttonscarves create the reality of Muslim women and the headscarf. In analyzing this phenomenon, Baudrillard's concepts of Simulacra and Hyperreality serve as theoretical underpinnings. Employing a qualitative approach, this research adopts the Jean Baudrillard Semiotics Analysis method to analyze nine texts, encompassing videos and photos posted throughout 2022. The study's findings shed light on the Instagram account’s ability to engender a simulated reality of Muslim women wearing headscarves. Simulakra's narrative on Instagram @buttonscarves shows the hyperreality of Muslim women's values and the headscarf that can anesthetize Muslim women audiences. Consequently, the headscarf is no longer seen from its original values but becomes a pure simulacrum reality of the image created by Buttonscarves.

This paper examines how Gilles Deleuze critically transforms the theory of thought from representation to production, by way of finding thought’s genetic conditions, in his synthesis of time and ideal synthesis in Différence et répétition. I focus on Deleuze’s critique of subject, time, and identity, and on how he tries to establish a purely positive synthesis capable of producing the absolutely new. Lastly, I discuss Deleuze’s own image of thought that rises from his critique, as simulacrum.

Abstract:
This thesis is designed as a comprehensive analysis of the advertising discourse within some pre-set constrains. Specifically, the main area of interest is the realm of American print advertising after 1945. Within these limits, advertising is understood as a mode of language, the chief semantic unit of which is a form of Barthesian myth, a superstructure divorced from reality that supersedes de Saussure's semiotics of the sign. The bulk of this thesis is then a diachronic analysis of the development of these myths and their role as both mirrors and catalysts of a whole range of stereotypes, value hierarchies or fixed ideas firmly embedded within American collective consciousness. The primary materials for this analysis are then various specimen of the advertisements themselves, carefully selected because of their representativeness, influence or significance within the advertising realm. The main theoretical framework rests on Marx's understanding of the commodity as a certain type of fetish, Barthes's description of the structure and social function of the myth, Baudrillard's and Debord's theories on such notions as the society of spectacle, the reign of simulacra and hyperreality, Benjamin's understanding of the uniqueness of representation and its aura and finally McLuhan's detailed accounts of...

Abstract:
In this thesis I aim to apply some late Wittgenstein's thoughts and ideas (mainly those of language-game) to media studies. For argumentation sake, both mediated communication as whole and various parts of mediated communication are perceived as self-aligning language- games. These are forms of communication wielded only by implicit rules which are determinated by usage of relevant signs. The key ideology here is that of pragmatism. Meaning of words and other signs is also determined by their usage in relevant language- game (e. g. article in paper, certain kind of TV show, etc.). This notion of various forms of mediated communication leads to a belief that they posses only a very limited ability to outreach their context (of a genre and to more extent mediated communication as a whole). This theory is compatible with Jean Beaudrillard's concept of simulacra. These are symbols without meaning based in reality. Instead they form a (hyper)reality of their own. What both scholars tech us is that symbols can be properly understood only within their context. Mediated communication according to my application of Wittgenstein has always a single meaning that is determined by "the way the communication go". I also consider few objections to this "totalitarian" conception, most importantly Umberto Eco's...

Abstract:
The thesis deals with the theory of simulation and simulacra by French representative of postmodernism Jean Baudrillard. It focuses on way how Baudrillard thematises gradual extinction of signs connected with their representational function and the emergence of hyperreality which contains simulation. The attention is also focused on concept of reality, virtuality, simulation and illusion. The thesis includes Paul Virilio's thoughts and also Manuel Castells'. The basic framework of research is completed by a theory of fictional worlds. The second part of thesis includes an analysis of how this issue is reflected in present film production via analysis of content of the films The Matrix (Wachowski, 1999) and Mulholland Drive (Lynch, 2001). The analysis reflects different interpretation of illusive/virtual space and its relation to reality. The aim of thesis is to analyse the selected concepts which describe an emergence and interaction of simulation focusing on contemporary society which is connected with modern technology and also to point at reflection of conceptions mentioned in the films. The goal of thesis is also to explore the films, compare them and show the way how they contain the theme of reality, simulation and illusion and how much is the content of these films connected with the action...

Abstract:
The book Postproduction: Culture as Screenplay, written by French aesthetician Nicolas Bourriaud is going to be initial text for my diploma thesis. Bourriaud claims, that contemporary art is mostly made by the principle of assemblage; art works are made by reinterpretation, reproducing or by new exhibiting of artefacts or forms of past. The assumption of the original concept in artworks of contemporary artists - semionauts (travelers in the worlds of signs) has been allready completely ineffective. Through the example of hyperrealistic paintings, which has lately reappeared in portfolios of international and czech artists, I will try to show whether its revilal is based on the emergence of new medias, that even more than in the seventies simulate reality or whether they deal with the concept of postpostprodution - the artists lend only formal, in this case, hyperrealistic, signs. This diploma thesis will be completed by the case study of paintings of czech hyperrealist painter Jan Mikulka.

Abstract:
Digital technology will be the most influential technologies of the future for learning purpose. The internet always offers another new possibility to the learning method that we have been exposed as a traditional method. These kinds of technology make a closer gap between reality and simulacra and will change our perspective of learning-life and the way we live it. The empirical study on the reality in the world of online learning has pointed the existences of the reality of its own. Current rationalization in the literatures insufficiently identifies the development of the gap between reality and simulacra as well as the impact to the audiences. The identification of the reality and simulacra in this particular media will bring the understanding of the usage and its implication. Keywords: Internet; e-learning; education; reality; simulacra.

This dissertation focuses on the problematic of the use of specific virtual representational methods and their influence on the construction of the new visuality. The aim of this dissertation is to show how computer simulations and visualizations used in medical imaging change the way of our apprehension of the world. Nowadays, within academic circles we witness both optimistic and sceptic theories concerning the effects of integration of computer technology and human apprehension. In this work we would like to answer the question about the type of knowledge we gain through virtual visualizations and we would like to prove that virtual simulations don't necessarily have to be a threat but, on the contrary, by developing visual imagination they can support new, creative apprehension of reality. Abstract:
This thesis offers a model for the underlying architecture of the narrative reality in science-fiction works by Philip K. Dick, arguing that Dick's fictional worlds are grounded in the pervasive metamorphosis - the overarching perception of the shifting - of the narrative fabric operating under the conditions of non-rationality and non-reality. The hyphenated coinages conveniently stand for the paradigms of the reality and mental configurations in PKD subverting the seemingly natural dichotomizing oppositions and hierarchies of the real/unreal and the rational/irrational. Bringing in Gilles Deleuze's ontology of difference, this thesis explains the non-rationality and non-reality of Dick's worlds in Deleuzian terms as, firstly, inducing the perception of fictional reality as realizing the innate potential of being by the perpetual becoming of being in multiplicity and, secondly, engendering - in the vein of Deleuzian simulacra - the impossibility of apprehending and categorizing fictional reality unequivocally. The thesis considers and evaluates the underlying assumptions and claims common to various approaches to the subject of reality in PKD's fictions in order to provide the essential context for the following development of the theoretical basis for non-rationality and non-reality shifting....

Abstract:
ENGLISH SUMMARY The main objective of this thesis was to provide a complex perspective on the mutual relationship of gender and media in the age of post-modernity with a special attention to the stereotypical gender portrayal presented to us by the contemporary Czech advertising discourse. We chose to demonstrate this problematics through the methods of semiotic analysis on the analytical sample of 5 advertisements (consisting of selected TV commercials) representing various aspects of stereotypical gender images appearing in the today's Czech advertising contents. We then subjected these selected advertisements to the analytical methods in pursuit of finding the answers to the questions related to the media image of men, women and our society that the stereotypical gender depictions contained in these advertisements help to construct. Although many of these advertisements appear to be openly sexist or even misogynic on the first sight, using the mechanisms of semiotic analysis we came to a rather opposite conclusion proposing the analyzed contents are rather pro-feminine tending toward an extensive masculine critique. This result, however, is based mainly on the mechanisms of oppositional reading of the subjected texts. On the other hand, it is presumable that the "average media consumer" not having access...
