Abstract:
The relevance of research is caused by the increase of the number of photovoltaic power plants in the Republic of Belarus and, accordingly, the need to solve problems of diagnostics of photovoltaic modules. A new Simulink model of a photovoltaic module focused on using the standard SimPowerSystems library of power supply system elements (a part of the MatLab/Simulink) is proposed. The model allows altering solar irradiation values for each solar cell of the module. The use of the model also makes it possible to obtain calculated values of voltages and currents at the photovoltic module output. In addition, the model provides the simulation of individual solar cells shading in the module. The developed Simulink model operates on the base of a well-known exponential dependence describing the volt-ampere characteristic of a photovoltaic module, and also takes into account the real circuit of the module with bypass diodes. The series resistance of the photovoltaic module is calculated by the subtraction between its experimental and theoretical volt-ampere characteristics for conditions that are close to normal. The Simulink model of the SF-P672300 module contains 72 nonlinear elements implemented on the basis of controlled current sources and connected in series. The model solved the problems of the algorithm stability for calculating algebraic cycles by introducing constraint the current and the voltage parameters. Experimental studies for the fully illuminated and partially shaded SF-P672300 module have demonstrated that the maximum relative error of the developed Simulink model does not exceed 15 %. Experimental and theoretical current-voltage characteristics of the SF-P672300 module under full illumination and partial shading are presented. The presented Simulink model may be used both at the design stage and at the operation stage of photovoltaic power plants in order to simulate and analyze the factors that affect the operation of them.

Abstract:
A new Simulink model of a photovoltaic cell has been proposed. The model is focused on the use of a standard SimPowerSystems library with power engineering elements from the MatLab/Simulink software package. The model allows altering the values of solar irradiance, photovoltaic cell temperature and load resistance. The results of the model application are the calculated values of voltages and currents at the photovoltaic cell output. The Simulink model that has been developed implements the known dependence of the photovoltaic cell volt-ampere characteristic by using both standard MatLab/Simulink blocks and special electric SimPowerSystems library blocks. The model is characterized by the fact that the series and parallel resistance of the photovoltaic cell are made in the form of resistors from the SimPowerSystems library. The main calculation algorithm is implemented programmatically by using the “C” programming language. To increase the algorithm stability to algebraic cycles the restrictions parameters are introduced. A new technique of calculating the photovoltaic cell model parameters based on experimental data has been proposed. The technique includes the preparation of a system of equations with experimental values of the photovoltaic cell voltages and currents. Experimental tests have been carried out for the photovoltaic module OSP XTP 250 under different solar irradiance values. The tests showed that the relative error of the Simulink model that has been developed does not exceed 12 %. The Simulink model makes it possible to build photovoltaic modules and then to build schemes of photovoltaic power plants as a part of power supply systems. Due to the latter it is possible to simulate the electricity consumers’ work, weather conditions, and the presence of shadows or pollution on the surface of photovoltaic modules. Also, one can carry out a simulation of increasing failures in power plant photovoltaic modules, e.g. simulating of modules efficiency reducing because of their degradation, or simulating of modules series resistance increasing because of the photovoltaic cell internal contacts deterioration. The Simulink model that has been developed can be used both at the design stage and at the stage of photoelectric power plants operation.

Abstract:
The paper describes the elements of the developed MATLAB Simulink library for building the models of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless sensor networks to simulate the communication between BLE devices in the presence of interference and channel noise. Various parameters can be configured for the devices including their 2D positions to take into account the distances between them for calculating the attenuation coefficients of the transmitted signals. Two simulation examples are provided, one of which demonstrates the data exchange between one master device and one slave at high data packet transmission rate (2 kHz), while the other example shows the data exchange between one master and multiple slaves simultaneously, in which case the data packet transmission rate can be no larger than 133 Hz.

Abstract:
This paper presents a simple mathematical and Simulink model of a two-phase hybrid stepper motor, where ignoring the permeance space harmonics of the hybrid stepper motor is regarded as the main physical assumption in this article. Moreover, the dq transformation method is adopted as the main mathematical approach for the derivation of the proposed model, where simple voltages, currents, and torque equations are obtained and used to build the proposed Simulink and circuit model of the stepper motor. The validity and the effectiveness of the proposed model are examined by comparing its results with the results collected from the Simulink model in the library of Matlab. The obtained simulation results showed that the proposed model achieved a high simplicity and high accuracy when compared with conventional models.

Abstract:
In terms of master’s thesis HAM-Tools library designed for MATLAB/Simulink was modified for the use in simulations of houses in the Czech Republic. Modified library and its parts were described in detail and tested by the simulation of the one-zone and two-zones models of the house. The simulations of models with same parameters were also realized in program TRNSYS. The corresponding results achieved in mentioned simulation tools were compared to each other. The one-zone model created by using HAM-Tools library is tested by the simulation of ventilating, heating, cooling, and sources of moisture. A demonstration of the practical use of the simulation is carried out in the thesis, namely by examining the influence of the insulation thickness on the thermal performance of the house (resp. its heat loss) on real atmospheric conditions. Among others, available resources of meteorological data are mentioned and compared to each other. The function for processing of the meteorological data to a file compatible with the HAM-Tools library was created. It was also created a material data file containing commonly used materials of building structures in the Czech Republic and their parameters.

Abstract:
Simulink Block Library for LEGO NXT Abstract Dominik Škoda July 30, 2014 The goal of this work is to create a support for the LEGO NXT platform in Simulink development environment. Such support of the target platform already exists, but it suffers from several disadvantages. At first it is provided exclusively for Windows operating systems, and the implementation is closed, therefor neither extensible nor customizable. The main premise of this project is the support of Linux operating systems. The project is also opened to ensure the extensibility and customizability. The model-driven development of systems for the LEGO NXT platform using this project comprises the model testing in a simulation and code generation in Simulink environment by using its standard tools, and deployment of completed programs to target devices. The systems generated with the help of this project are categorized as real-time systems.

DICKINSON, ANDREW WILLIAM LAIRD. "SimITK: Visual Programming of the ITK Image Processing Library within Simulink." Thesis, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1974/6717.

Full text
Abstract:
The Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK) is a long-established image processing library used for image analysis, visualisation, and image-guided surgery applications. ITK is a collection of C++ classes that can potentially pose usability problems for users without appropriate C++ programming experience. In order to remove the programming complexities and facilitate rapid prototyping, an implementation of ITK within a higher-level visual programming environment is presented: SimITK. ITK functionalities are automatically wrapped into "blocks" within the visual programming environment of MATLAB, Simulink, where these blocks can be connected to form workflows: visual schematics that closely represent the structure of a C++ program. The heavily C++ templated nature of ITK does not facilitate direct interaction between Simulink and ITK; an intermediary is required to convert respective datatypes and allow intercommunication. As such, a SimITK "Virtual Block" has been developed that serves as a wrapper around the ITK class responsible for resolving the datatypes used by ITK to native types used by Simulink. Part of this challenge surrounds the automated capturing and storage of the pertinent class information (name, inputs/outputs, acceptable datatypes, and allowed dimensionalities) that needs to be reflected within the final block representation. The WrapITK package, included with ITK, serves to generate initial class representations as complex eXtended Markup Language (XML) files that are consolidated and refined to organise the information into an easily accessible structure when extracting during wrapping. Once refined, the data are transferred into custom-written SimITK-templates - one template for each required filetype - through a series of custom-keyword substitutions that replace special keywords with appropriately retrieved XML information and/or programming code. The primary result from the SimITK wrapping procedure is the generation of multiple Simulink Block libraries. From these libraries, blocks are selected and interconnected to demonstrate case study examples: a 3D segmentation workflow using cranial-CT data and a 3D MRI-to-CT registration workflow. Suggestions for future development are included as well as several appendices containing a list of classes, code comparisons between ITK C++ and SimITK workflow, installation documentation (both user and developer), as well as example file templates used to integrate ITK within Simulink.<br>Thesis (Master, Computing) -- Queen's University, 2011-09-13 16:48:53.906

Abstract:
Fuzzy control of the speed of electric drives is an alternative in the field of the control system. Modeling and simulation of electric drive control systems based on fuzzy logic is an important step in design and development. This chapter provides a complete means of modeling and simulation of fuzzy control systems for DC motors, induction motors, and permanent magnet synchronous motors, made in the Matlab/Simulink program environment, useful for performing complex analyzes. The functioning of the programs is demonstrated by an example of characteristics obtained practically, with a functioning regime often encountered in practice.

Abstract:
Investigation of passive steering concepts using MATLAB SIMULINK for their application in a modified Tram 2000 The rail vehicle industry is one of the most traditional and thus also rather conservative industries in mechanical engineering. Nevertheless, alongside innovative topics such as the advancing autonomisation or the establishment of hydrogen fuel cell technologies, there are also concepts for the active guidance of rail vehicles. As a young, up-and-coming startup, we at Traila are developing just such an active steering concept (Traila Active Steering), which, in addition to noise emissions, above all reduces wear in the rail-wheel contact. In our current project phase, we have taken over a tram type T2000 in cooperation with the Zurich Transport Authority (VBZ), with which we can now provide prototypical functional proof of our technology. Within the framework of safety-relevant investigations, passive control concepts as well as active control concepts were examined for the selfdeveloped, actively controlled bogie. In this presentation, different kinematics for passive control are investigated with regard to their adaptation for the Tram 2000, using a specially developed rail-wheel library in MATLAB SIMULINK. In addition to the dynamic investigations on the model, the presentation focuses in particular on an assessment of passive safety with the help of the tools available in MATLAB SIMULINK. It is shown how, based on hydraulic, mechanical, control and external libraries, a domain-spanning multi-physical model is built up as a virtual twin of the T2000, in particular of our modifications, and processed for use in a HIL test bench.

Abstract:
A new Simulink library, called GasTurboLib, containing blocks specialized for gas turbine modelling has been developed. Different engine configurations can be generated using GasTurboLib components and these models can be used for steady state and transient performance analysis. This paper describes the newly developed generic gas turbine simulation tool and presents experiences with modelling and simulation of single and twin shaft gas turbine engines. This library enables 0-D modelling, which is the simplest level of modelling but the most widely used in industry. This component-based modelling environment can be used to simulate start-up sequence, load change, control system design, power-system stability studies and real-time modelling. Traditionally, control method improvements are developed and validated through engine testing. The goal was to develop a functional engine model, which can be started, operated and shut down by a governor model, for the purposes of development of control methods and protection algorithms, thus providing considerable cost savings, as well as enabling better project progress through independence from the availability of test beds. It has been demonstrated that rapid model generation and reusability of components along with user-friendly graphical user interface make this simulation environment a valuable tool for gas turbine system performance analysis.

An Input Linearized Powertrain Model for the Optimal Control of Hybrid Electric Vehicles. SAE International, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.4271/2022-01-0741.

Full text
Abstract:
Models of hybrid powertrains are used to establish the best combination of conventional engine power and electric motor power for the current driving situation. The model is characteristic for having two control inputs and one output constraint: the total torque should be equal to the torque requested by the driver. To eliminate the constraint, several alternative formulations are used, considering engine power or motor power or even the ratio between them as a single control input. From this input and the constraint, both power levels can be deduced. There are different popular choices for this one control input. This paper presents a novel model based on an input linearizing transformation. It is demonstrably superior to alternative model forms, in that the core dynamics of the model (battery state of energy) are linear, and the non-linearities of the model are pushed into the inputs and outputs in a Wiener/Hammerstein form. The output non-linearities can be approximated using a quadratic model, which creates a problem in the linear-quadratic framework. This facilitates the direct application of linear control approaches such as LQR control, predictive control, or Model Predictive Control (MPC). The paper demonstrates the approach using the ELectrified Vehicle library for sImulation and Optimization (ELVIO). It is an open-source MATLAB/Simulink library designed for the quick and easy simulation and optimization of different powertrain and drivetrain architectures. It follows a modelling methodology that combines backward-facing and forward-facing signal path, which means that no driver model is required. The results show that the approximated solution provides a performance that is very close to the solution of the original problem except for extreme parts of the operating range (in which case the solution tends to be driven by constraints anyway).
