The article examines the assessments of German military specialists of the processes of the initial period of the Sino-Japanese War. The authors are based on previously little-known documents from the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, some of these documents are being put into circulation for the first time. This paper analyzes maps of Joseon published in Japan from the Meiji Restoration to the Sino-Japanese War, particularly focusing on those containing information about the Imjin War. After the Meiji Restoration, with the imminent invasion of Korea, Japanese interest in Joseon increased, and various publications on Joseon were issued. In this context, a number of maps were published that contained information about Toyotomi Hideyishi’s invasion of Korea, which was used as a historical justification for the “Conquest of Korea” debates (Seikanron).
