Abstract:
This master's thesis describes suggestion of an application designed for marketing research utilizing development environment of Ericsson company using services IMS and SIP. The essay examines the options offered by programming languages Java, PHP, of the database system MySQL, language XML and SIP messages. A creation of a server - client pair of applications used for marketing research was the main focus of this paper was. These applications can be used for distribution of questionnaires and their subsequent collection by the server, which allows for an output of statistics based on the acquired data. It is not necessary to work with all the applications, it is possible to filter based on one or more categories and only have the selected questionnaires sent. The questionnaire results will be shown in a form of straightforward table in the server’s console window. The XML language has been selected for the storing the questionnaires. All technologies and methods used are described within the essay. An integral part of the module is also the creation of a database of questions, which has been created in the PHP programming language. MySQL has been used as a database server. The application output is an XML file, which can be used as an input for an IMS server. The results of this thesis are demonstrated using screenshots taken during the application testing.

I ett IMS-nät (IP Multimedia Subsystem) finns Applikations Servrar (AS) som tillhandahåller tjänster, dessa AS är ofta SIP-servrar (Session Initation Protocol).

Målet för det här examensarbetet var att finna den SIP-server som är mest lämpad att använda när man ska lägga till en tjänst i ett IMS-nät.

Först gjordes en undersökning av tillgängliga SIP AS och ett tiotal hittades. Några av dem valdes ut för att jämföras och utredas mer noggrant. Inledningsvis inspekterades deras dokumentation, sedan analyserades proceduren att installera AS och att lägga till en tjänst på dem. Till sist lades tjänsten till i ett IMS-nät.

Eftersom varken deras fördelar eller nackdelar utmärkte sig på ett sådant sett att någon av dem sammantaget var bättre än den andra, kunde tyvärr inte någon av dem pekas ut som den mest lämpade.


In an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network there are Application Servers (ASs) which host and execute services. These are often SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) servers. The goal for this thesis was to evaluate a selection of open source SIP ASs to see which one was most suited for IMS service development.

Ten different SIP ASs was found in an initial search. They were briefly reviewed and some of them were chosen as candidates for further investigation.

The documentation of the chosen servers were thoroughly explored and evaluated; as was the installation process and how to deploy a service to them.

Finally the servers were installed and a service was implemented and deployed to an IMS network.

Unfortunately, I could not point out one of the ASs to be more suited than another for deploying an IMS service on. This was because they had different pros and cons and none of them were distinguishing in a way that made them superior to the other.

Abstract:
L’IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) constitue l’architecture clé de contrôle pour les réseaux de nouvelle génération (NGN : Next Generation Network). IMS offre aux opérateurs réseaux la possibilité d'étendre leurs services, en intégrant la voix et des communications multimédia et de les livrer dans de nouveaux environnements avec de nouveaux objectifs. Sa sécurité totale mais à moindre coût est donc primordiale, principalement l’authentification. En IMS l’authentification est divisée en deux phases, une au niveau du domaine PS (Packet-Switch) avec le protocole 3GPP-AKA, et l’autre au niveau IMS en utilisant le protocole IMS-AKA. Dans notre première contribution, nous proposons un nouveau protocole d’authentification plus sécurisé que celui utilisé en IMS (IMS-AKA) et plus performant en termes d’utilisation de la bande passante et de temps de traitement. Notre méthode d’analyse repose sur la quantification de la signalisation induite par l’authentification IMS. La quantification est effectuée à l’aide d’expérimentations réelles. Sur la base des résultats obtenues, nous pouvons confirmer que notre protocole (1) peut économiser au moins 21,5% du trafic SIP/Cx par rapport à l’IMS-AKA, (2) permet de réduire la consommation de la bande passante de 27% par rapport à l’IMS-AKA, (3) résiste aux attaques atteignant la confidentialité et l’intégrité des données lors d’un enregistrement IMS (validé par AVISPA). Dans notre seconde contribution, nous avons présenté un nouveau modèle, nommé virtual walled-garden, de fourniture de services centré sur l'utilisateur en IMS. Ce modèle de fourniture de service permet d'offrir plus de liberté d'utiliser les services de tout fournisseur de contenu en fonction des besoins et préférences des utilisateurs. De cette manière les trois parties (utilisateur, fournisseurs de services et opérateur IMS) sont satisfaites. Les utilisateurs auront accès à un plus large éventail de services soutenus par l'IMS, les fournisseurs de services peuvent mettre en œuvre un large éventail de services IMS/SIP sans aucun investissement sur la mise en œuvre d'un réseau de cœur IMS ou de sa maintenance. Quant aux opérateurs cette façon de faire constitue une nouvelle forme de partenariat d'affaires avec les fournisseurs de services. Le modèle virtual walled-garden se base sur une fédération d'identité multi niveaux pour prendre en considération plusieurs niveaux de sécurité selon la criticité des applications sollicitées.

Abstract:
In the first part of my master's thesis the network architecture of IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is presented. The database of subscribers HSS (Home Subscriber Server) and SLF (Subscription Locator Function), as well as a SIP CSCF servers (Call Session Control Functions) process a SIP signalization and an AS application server performing services, etc. I focus on the registration of subscribers in the IMS network with a list of transmitted messages and description of each interface that is used in this network. The most important interfaces, which I described here, are Gm, Mw, Cx, Dx and Sh. Then I focused on security in IMS problems, which are divided into categories of access security and network security. After that is the implementation of IMS network in an open source Open IMS Core System considered under the Linux operating system. Here is the problem description from the actual system installation, through the configuration of all necessary elements of the network to the communication party itself. The communication analysis in the initial registration process and in subsequent communications is described. Finally I created laboratory exercises with a focus on the Open IMS Core System, where students learn about architecture and principle of networks based on IMS technology operation, with individual elements necessary for the operation of the network and their configuration. Students also test simple captured traffic analysis.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with an introduction of new functionalities in communication via IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) at the beginning. There are described functions of each part and introduced protocols which are used by this system. Thesis presents the method of positioning with Global Positioning System (GPS) together with methods for the distance measuring of two points on the Earth. Services provided by IMS are developed in Service Development Studio which is shortly mentioned too. The developed service is divided into two parts: a client side part and a server side part, which is formed like a servlet. This program component, which is running on server is mentioned at the end of teoretical part. The procedure of service creating, setup and functions are in description of the created service, which provides informations based on geographical coordinates to user, is described after the teoretical part.

Abstract:
This thesis describes basic principles of IP Multimedia Subsystem, known as the IMS, and shows the possibility for design applications using IMS. Firstly, a generic architecture IMS as layer model divided into four logic layer with definition the interfaces and the main entities is described. The IMS is based on SIP and IP protocols. Then is the architecture of SIP with the main entities explained. Structure of packet, request and response method in the part of SIP is also described. After that, three network services, namely presence services, instant messaging services and push over cellular services are presented. For each services the figuration of their architecture and the basic definition of their main entities are shown. Moreover, the graphical diagrams of SIP signalization are depicted for these services. In the next chapter, the self implementation of services was designed, namely presence services and services for speech transmission with next secondary function as sending email with registration information of user. The project was designed as client - server application in the development studio SDS Ericsson 4.1. The client application was simulated as java application and also as an application for Symbian emulator. The process of client registration was performed with the help of ICP platform. Finally, the diagram of analysis communication client - server is displayed with the captured packets explanation by the help of network analyzer WireShark. The video files, which were specially created for this thesis showing presentations for presence services and sending email. The most important results are summarized in the end of this article.

This thesis describes protocols used in IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks. Freely available implementations of IMS system are described. The main goal is to describe design and implementation of a tool for analyzing communication between users and IMS system. The tool seeks and decodes signaling messages. These messages are analyzed for information about sessions which are necessary for session monitoring and accounting. Final gathered information are exported in a form of extended NetFlow/IPFIX records. We used open-source Open IMS Core implementation for building IMS network and creating test data. As endpoints we used another open-source application for Android OS called IMSDroid.

Since the introduction of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in 2002, a lot of research has been conducted aimed at designing and implementing IMS capable clients and network elements. Though considerable work has been done in the development of IMS clients, there is no single, free and open source IMS client that provides researchers with all the required functionality needed to test the applications they are developing. For example, several open and closed source SIP/IMS clients are used within the Rhodes University Conver- gence Research Group (RUCRG) to test applications under development, as a result of the fact that the various SIP/IMS clients support different subsets of SIP/IMS features. The lack of a single client and the subsequent use of various clients comes with several problems. Researchers have to know how to deploy, configure, use and at times adapt the various clients to suit their needs. This can be very time consuming and, in fact, contradicts the IMS philosophy (the IMS was proposed to support rapid service creation). This thesis outlines the development of a Java-based, IMS compliant client called RUCRG IMS client, that uses the JAIN SIP Applet Phone (JSAP) as its foundation. JSAP, which originally offered only basic voice calling and instant messaging (IM) capabilities, was modified to be IMS compliant and support video calls, IM and presence using XML Configuration Access Protocol (XCAP).

The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is still under development and not widely adopted in the market. Some companies are reluctant to deploy IMS and some telecommunications vendors believe that IMS will not achieve a desirable market share. The purpose of this thesis work is to give a boost to this technology (i.e., to accelerate its market growth) by providing the community (both developers and operators who might adopt this technology) with an evaluation of the Ericsson Java Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) called Mobile Java Communication Framework (MJCF) APIs. Developers with or even without knowledge of the IMS architecture and signaling should be able to use these interfaces in order to develop applications on top of IMS. A client-server application is designed and implemented to facilitate this evaluation and to serve as an example for others. The motivation behind this application is the every day needs of the people who search for discounts while they are shopping. Users set up their profile by specifying their preference concerning discounts for specific products; while shop owners publish discounts. When a user is near a store which offers interesting discounts (i.e., discounts that match their profile) new notifications will be sent to his/her mobile device. This application exploits the MJCF APIs and uses several of its basic functions; specifically subscriptions, messages, notifications, and publications are some of the messages that can be utilized through these interfaces.</p> Throughout the application development, bugs were found in the APIs and corrections were suggested for the documentation. Measurements were made in order to evaluate the memory utilization and delay associated with these APIs. It was observed that the delays added by the APIs are somewhat high and may negatively affect the experience of users. However memory utilization seamed to be low for client applications and quite high for the server side given the resources of today's services and cellular phones.
Systemet IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) är under utveckling och är inte vida etablerat än. Nogra företag tvekar inför etablering av IMS och nogra telekomföretag anser att IMS inte kommer uppnå önskad marknadsandel. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att ge denna teknologi en skjuts framåt (d.v.s. att öka marknadstillväxten) genom att tillhandahålla den gemenskap av både utvecklare och operatörer som kan tänka sig ta in denna teknologi, med en utvärdering of Ericsson’s Java Applications Programming Interfaces (APIs) kallade MJCF API. Utvecklare med eller t.o.m. utan kunskap om arkitekturen och signalleringen hos IMS ska kunna använda dessa gränssnitt till att utveckla tjänster på IMS. En klient-server applikation är designade och implementerad för att möjliggöra denna utvärdering och för att agera exempel för andra. Motiveringen bakom denna applikation är det vardagliga behovet hos människor som söker efter rabatter/erbjudanden när de handlar. Användare sätter upp sin profil genom att specificera sina önskemål angående erbjudanden för specifika produkter medan butiksinnehavare publicerar sina erbjudanaden. När en användare är nära en butik som erbjuder någonting interessant (d.v.s. produkter som matchar använadarens profil), så kommer nya notifikationer att anlända till hans/hennes mobil. Denna applikation uttnyttjar MJCF APIet och använder ett flertal av dess basala funktioner; speciellt gällande prenumerationer, meddelanden, notifieringar och publiceringar är några av de meddelanden som möjliggörs genom dessa gränssnitt.</p> Genom applikationsutvecklingen så blev flera buggar i APIerna upptäckta och förbättringar till dokumentationen föreslogs. Mätningar gjordes för att utvärdera minnesåtgången och fördröjningar associerade med dessa APIer. Det observerades att API fördröjningar är något höga och kan påverka användarupplevelsen negativt. Däremot verkade minnesåtgången vara låg på klientsidan och hög på serversidan, givet de resurser dagens tjänster och mobila telefoner förfogar över.

Abstract:
This paper presents a description of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture and IMS services. IMS is a standardized next-generation networking architectural framework providing advanced services on mobile and fixed networks. The first chapter describes four-layer IMS architecture and also mentions supported services. The second chapter deals with IMS protocols and primarily focuses on the SIP signaling protocol. UDP, RTP and TLS protocols are also included in this chapter. The third chapter is dedicated to practical part of this paper. A VoIP Java application has been created based on the findings gained throughout the thesis. The main part of the created application consists of client-side application, database MySQL and Servlet application for communication between database and client-side application. The whole system was created using SDS Sony Ericsson 4.1. FD1. An OpenIC lite client has been tested during development on our system and results were compared with created client-side application. A web application based on PHP, MySQL and ActionScript then handles administration and monitoring of customers using voice services.

Submitted work describes IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) and focuses on services offered by this technology. In the theoretical part of the thesis is a detailed description of the IMS architecture, in the terms of its components and interfaces. Also a SIP protocol is described as the main signalling protocol, which represents the basis of the IMS architecture and RTP protocol that allows the transmission of multimedia data in real-time. Further, there are provided services that the IMS system brings. The practical part of the work describes the design and implementation of services within the IMS. It is a client-server service. Server part of the system is implemented as a SIP Servlet application. It has access to the MySQL database, which stores records of multimedia files. Client registered in the IMS network can communicate with the SIP servlet sending a request for information on such files. Following this communication, the client can play the file in his online ICP application, or download it into his PC and then play. To play and view multimedia fines is used JMF. The service is implemented in a development environment SDS Ericsson 4.1, which allows simulation of the IMS network.

This master’s thesis is focused on the network architecture of IMS (Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem) and development an application for IMS. IMS architecture is the convergence of fixed and mobile networks. IMS enables rapid deployment of new multimedia services. In the first chapter is showed and described architecture IMS in four layers and block model of architecture IMS. Next chapter is focused to protocols, which are used in IMS. One of the most important protocols in network IMS is SIP. This protocol is analyzed in details. For development IMS platform application was used Ericsson SDS (Service Development Studio) in version 4.1. In SDS were created applications type of client and servlet. In this master’s thesis is also used development environment NetBeans. In NetBeans was created application for management of captured images. In the same development environment was developed application that shows the contents of a database. Last chapter is devoted to analyze individual parts of communication between client and servlet, and when client uses http to download image file.

Abstract:

The trends in todays tele- and datacommunication market point toward using IP for all sorts of service delivery ranging from voice calls to TV. The next natural step in this evolution is to provide the same set of services to the end users independent of the access technology and device used. The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is an IP based telecommunications platform which targets this and lets the operators develop new services once which can then be used on many different devices.

This thesis examines the integration of IPTV and IMS. Can IMS be used to deliver TV services and can the IPTV set-top-boxes of today be used as clients in IMS? Since this is a new and previously unexamined area an explorative approach is taken. The aim is to identify how such an integration could be performed and the possible problems which have to be solved. To assist in this exploration a TV-push service based on IMS technology is constructed.

Based on the experiences from this service a general architecture for IPTV in IMS is suggested.

A number of problems crucial to solve for a successful integration are identified and possible solutions to these are discussed.

Abstract:
This master’s thesis deals with architecture of the IMS network and analysis of the affects when loading the network. Architecture of IMS is a network of new generation. It convergates fixed and mobile networks and it enables quick installation of new multimedia services. The first chapter is focused on the description of the IMS architecture, its components and their function. The next chapter is devoted to the main protocols in the IMS system. It is mainly about signalization protocol SIP. The third chapter focuses on the queueing theory. For simulation of the IMS network, Open IMS Core enviroment was chosen, described in the fourth chapter. Next chapter is dedicated to the IMS Bench SIPp tool used for generating and testing the SIP protocol with focus on the IMS. The final chapter dedicates to the realization of an IMS network. The begining of this chapter deals with the description of individual conections generated by the IMS Bench SIPp tool. In the next part load tests focused on the created IMS network are created and analyzed in detail. The end of the chapter describes the implementation of the real finished call between devices and the Android operating system.

This master’s thesis deals description of the IMS (Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem) and shows the possibility for design applications that using services this system. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on a detailed description of the IMS architecture, its key components and the SIP protocol that is main signaling protocol in the IMS. The practical part of the work describes the design, implementation and test of the system for reservation of tickets to cinema in the IMS. The project was created as client-server application in the development studio SDS Ericsson 4.1 FD1 with built-in IMS simulator. The client application is designed for mobile devices with support of the J2ME platform. The server part of the system is realized as SIP Servlet with access to the MySQL database. In the database are saves records about registered users, offered tickets and successful reservation. For easy work over MySQL database of the system for reservation of tickets was created the application for its administration in the Java programming language (Java SE 6). With the assistance of this application, the operators of system can add and erase the records about films, time projection and disburse tickets on the basis of knowledge of reservation ID. In the end of the work is realized SIP signaling analysis of the client registration to IMS and communication between the client application and the SIP Servlet.

Abstract:
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling protocol for IP-based media services that will be the de facto standard for future media-over-IP services. Since SIP User Agents (UAs) support a limited number of service types (usually one or two), we assume that the future user will need to operate several UAs simultaneously. These UAs will constitute the user's personal service network. In this thesis, we investigate architectures for policy-based management of this network so that it can be used in an efficient manner. To achieve this, we propose a new SIP entity, called the SIP Service Manager (SSM), which lies in the core of the management system. Finally, we evaluate our proposal by implementing one version of the SIP Service Manager.

Då SIP User Agents (UAs) stöder ett begränsat antal typer av tjänster (oftast en eller två), antar vi att framtida användare kommer att behöva använda sig av flera UAs samtidigt. Dessa UAs utgör en användares personliga tjänstenätverk. I denna rapport, undersöker vi arkitekturer för policybaserad hantering (management) av detta nätverk, så att det kan användas effektivt. För att uppnå detta, föreslår vi en ny SIP-enhet, kallad SIP Service Manager (SSM), som är placerad i kärnan av hanteringssystemet. Slutligen utvärderar vi vår föreslagna lösning genom att implementera en version av en SIP Service Manager.

The master thesis is focused on control procedures in EPS-IMS networks. Firstly the thesis describes systems IMS and EPS. The second part of thesis includes the theory of control procedures in EPS such as cell acquisition, random access procedure, identification of subscriber, authentication of subscriber, security procedures, tracking area procedure, default bearer creation, implementation of CSFB procedure and detach procedure. Processes related to subsystem IMS such as registration to IMS, bearer creation for IMS signalling and voice service VoLTE are the next part of thesis. The next main topic is the VoLTE implementation problematic and VoLTE cooperation with diverse terminals. There is also explained the principle of Circuit Switched Fallback for realization voice services in EPS without VoLTE service. All procedures mentioned above except of procedures which are related to IMS were captured and analyzed using software Wireshark and QualiPoc. The final part of the thesis is lab task creation based of the analyzed messages.

With the standardization of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), the telecommunications scene becomes more and more converged and in the future we will most likely access our services from all kinds of devices and link them together. One important future access method that has so far been left out of the standardization is television. There is a need for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) to work together with IMS and this thesis focuses on one aspect of that convergence, namely charging.

The problem explored in this thesis is if there is an efficient way of charging for IPTV services while taking advantage of the IMS charging functionality and this is done for two aspects of the problem. First, the possiblilty of an efficient Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling schema is investigated and then a good charging Application Programming Interface (API) to be used when developing applications is investigated. The findings of these two investigations are then tested and improved during the implementation of a demo application.

This thesis delivers specifications for a signaling schema that enables a Set-Top Box (STB) to pass charging information to an IMS network via INFO requests inside a special charging session. The schema is small and extendable to ensure that it can be modified further on if necessary. The thesis also delivers an encapsulating and intuitive charging API to be used by developers who want to charge for their services.

A arquitetura IP Multimedia Subsystem, proposta pelo consórcio 3rd Generation Partnership Project como base para o suporte à convergência entre telefonia móvel e a Internet, define uma série de elementos arquiteturais, entre os quais, o componente Call Session Control Function e o protocolo Session Initiation Protocol. Session Initiation Protocol é um protocolo da camada de aplicação utilizado para estabelecer, modificar e terminar sessões multimídia entre dispositivos. Em redes baseadas na arquitetura IP Multimedia Subsystem, o Session Initiation Protocol é o responsável pela comunicação entre dispositivos e a rede, e entre os componentes responsáveis pelo gerenciamento de sessão. Nos últimos anos, estudos detectaram degradação de desempenho em redes baseadas na arquitetura IP Multimedia Subsystem em função das características centralizadas do Session Initiation Protocol e dos componentes de gerenciamento de sessão. Este trabalho apresenta uma arquitetura distribuída para redes baseadas em IP Multimedia Subsystem, tendo como fundamento o paradigma de computação paralela baseado em espaço de tuplas onde os servidores são organizados em uma rede P2P, com objetivo de prover uma infraestrutura escalável e tolerante a falhas. A validação da arquitetura em termos de desempenho e escalabilidade se deu através de modelagem formal e simulação com Redes de Petri Coloridas.
The IP Multimedia Subsystem architecture, proposed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project consortium as basis to support the convergence between mobile networks and the Internet, defines a set of architectural elements, among them, the Call Session Control Function and the Session Initiation Protocol. The Session Initiation Protocol is an application layer protocol used to establish, modify and terminate sessions between devices. On the IP multimedia subsystem based network, the Session Initiation Protocol play a key role on the communication between devices and the network, and between session management components. In the last years, studies have detected a performance bottleneck on IP multimedia subsystem networks due to centralized characteristic of the Session Initiation Protocol and in Session Control components. This work shows a distributed architecture for IP Multimedia Subsystem networks based on the tuple space paradigm, and the servers structured in a P2P network, aiming to achieve a scalable and fault-tolerant infrastructure. The validation of the architecture on the performance and scalability took place through the Coloured Petri Net formal modeling and simulation.

Internet Protocol multimedia subsystem (IMS) is an architecture for services such as voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in IP based communication systems. IMS is standardized by the 3GPP standardization forum, and was first released in 2002. Since then IMS has not had the wide adoption by operators as first anticipated. As 3G already supported voice and video, the operators could not justify the expense of IMS. The current emergence of the fourth generation mobile communication system named Long Term Evolution (LTE) has, however, increased the need for knowledge of IMS and of creating services for it. LTE networks are IP only networks that provide low latency. In order to use LTE for making phone calls, VoIP technologies are needed. IMS is the architecture intended to be used for Voice over LTE (VoLTE). The need for tools for education within IMS was seen in 2006 by Enea Experts in Linköping, Sweden. The author of this thesis designed an IMS for educational purposes, but the project was never fully completed. This thesis will reexamine the design decisions previously made by the author. The requirements stated by the customer remain: that an IMS with basic signaling and logging should be easy to install, maintain, and evolve at a low cost. A literature study of IMS and VoLTE is presented to contribute with knowledge in these areas. The previous design and implementation made by the author is presented and analyzed. The third-party software that the previous implementation was based on is reexamined. Existing open source components are analyzed in order to identify how they can be used to solve the problem and to identify what remains to be developed in order to fulfill the requirements. New design suggestions, presented in today´s context, are proposed and verified using analytical reasoning and experiments. The outcome of the final work is new verified design decisions for the customer to use when implementing a new IMS for educational purposes. The thesis should also provide useful insights which instructors and students can use to teach and learn more about IMS.

IMS standardi¬seras av standardiseringsforumet 3GPP och första utgåvan släpptes år 2002. IMS fick dock inte det breda genomslag bland operatörer som förväntats. Eftersom 3G redan hade stöd för tal och video kunde operatörerna inte se skäl till ytterligare utgifter för IMS. Den fjärde generationens mobila kommunikationssystem, Long Term Evolution (LTE) är helt IP-baserat och ger lägre fördröjningar i nätet. För att kunna ringa telefonsamtal via LTE krävs VoIP-teknik. IMS är en arkitektur avsedd för att användas för Voice over LTE (VoLTE). Den nuvarande utvecklingen av LTE har därför ökat behovet av kunskap om IMS och av utveckling av IMS-tjänster. Enea Experts i Linköping insåg behovet av verktyg för utbildning inom IMS år 2006. Författaren av det här examensarbetet designade därför ett IMS för utbildningssyfte. Projektet slutfördes dock aldrig. Syftet med examensarbetet är att ompröva de tidigare designbesluten. Kundens krav kvarstår: att ett IMS med grundläggande signalering och loggning bör vara enkelt att installera, enkelt att underhålla och möjligt att utveckla till en låg kostnad. Arbetet innehåller en litteraturstudie av IMS och VoLTE för att ge en inblick i dessa områden. Den tidigare designen och implementationen presenteras och analyseras. Tredjeparts mjukvara, som den tidigare implementationen baserades på, omprövas. Befintliga programvaror med öppen källkod analyseras i syfte att kartlägga hur de kan användas för att lösa uppgiften, samt att identifiera vad som återstår att utveckla för att uppfylla kraven. Nya beslut kring design presenteras och besluten verifieras med experiment och analytiskt resonemang. Resultatet av detta examensarbete innefattar nya verifierade beslut kring design som kunden kan använda vid utveckling av ett nytt IMS för utbildningssyfte. Arbetet erbjuder också värdefulla insikter som instruktörer och elever kan använda för att undervisa samt för att lära sig mer om IMS.

Market research reports by In-Stat, Gartner, and the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) reveal a growing worldwide demand for Voice over IP (VoIP) and smartphones. This trend is expected to continue over the coming years and there is wide scope for mobile VoIP solutions. Nevertheless, with this growth in VoIP adoption come challenges related with quality of service and security. Most consumer VoIP solution, even in PCs, analog telephony adapters, and home gateways, do not yet support media encryption and other forms of security. VoIP applications based on mobile platforms are even further behind in adopting media security due to a (mis-)perception of more limited resources. This thesis explores the alternatives and feasibility of achieving VoIP security for mobile devices in the realm of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

Avec l’omniprésence au quotidien du numérique et de l’informatique, de plus en plus d’utilisateurs souhaitent avoir accès à Internet et à leurs applications via n’importe quel périphérique, de n’importe où et n’importe quand. Les appareils domestiques intelligents se développant, les besoins d’échanger des données au domicile même se font de plus en plus sentir. C’est dans ce contexte, celui des services à domicile avec besoin d’interconnexion que se situe notre étude. Ce type de service est qualifié de Home Service (HS) alors que le réseau à domicile est nommé Home Network (HN). La problématique pour les opérateurs est alors de concevoir des architectures appropriées à l’interconnexion des HN de manière sécurisée tout en permettant un déploiement facile et à grande échelle. Dans la première étape, nous considérons la livraison de services sécurisés à travers un réseau de nouvelle génération (NGN) : IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). IMS étant l’architecture de référence pour son caractère réseau NGN des opérateurs, diverses architectures peuvent être développées comme support aux HS. Nous avons choisi d'analyser et de mettre en place une architecture P2P centralisée et de le comparer à l’architecture de référence. Plusieurs mécanismes d'authentification sont mis en place autour du P2P centralisé afin de sécuriser la prestation de services. La modélisation et l’évaluation de notre proposition ont permis d’identifier sa relation à l’IMS mais aussi des problèmes inhérents aux solutions centralisées : la protection des données personnelles, l’impact de la taille sur réseau sur les performances, l’existence d’un point de faiblesse unique face aux attaques et la congestion au niveau du serveur centralisé. Par conséquent, nous nous sommes tournés vers les solutions distribuées pour résoudre ces problèmes. Dans la deuxième étape, nous considérons l’architecture P2P non-structurée, qualifiée de pur P2P. La cryptographie basée sur l'identité (IBC) est ajoutée au P2P pur afin d’authentifier les utilisateurs et de protéger leurs communications. Pour chacune des solutions une analyse du coût de signalisation est effectuée révélant une faiblesse en ce qui concerne l’étape de recherche. Dans un déploiement à grande échelle, le coût de cette phase est trop élevé. Aussi, nous examinons le P2P structuré basé sur les Dynamic Hash Tables, une autre solution distribuée. Cette architecture est étudiée par l'IETF en tant qu’une des dernières générations de P2P: REsource LOcation And Discovery (RELOAD) Base Protocol. Nous proposons son utilisation dans le cadre des HSs. Comme preuve du concept, cette solution a été implantée et déployée sur un petit réseau en utilisant TLS/SSL comme mécanisme de sécurité. Cette plateforme nous a permis d’étudier les délais et les coûts de cette solution. With digital life enhancement, more users would like to get seamless Internet and information with any devices, at any time and from anywhere. More and more home devices need to exchange data or to control other devices. The type of services is labelled Home Service (HS) and it is deployed though a Home Network (HN). Some users need to use their HS outside their HN, some others need to interconnect other HN. Operators have to provide suitable network architectures to ensure this interconnection and to provide at the same time, scalability, remote access, easy deployment and security. Here is the topic of our work. In the fist step, we consider a practical illustration around the Next-Generation Network (NGN) and the secured services. It is the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) approach for the management of services that is generally supported by the NGN network operators. However, various network operator architectures can be developed to support these services. An alternative way is the P2P architectures. We choose to analyze and implement a centralized P2P and we compare it with the IMS solution. Several authentication mechanisms are introduced to secure the centralized P2P. An evaluation of these architectures is conducted. Since the previous solutions present some issues due to their centralized feature, we consider distributed solutions in a second step. The non-structured P2P, called pure P2P, can also support HS. Identity Based Crytography (IBC) is added to these architectures in order to offer authentication and protection to user communications. The different solutions are compared through their signaling and transmission cost. The study shows that searching step in this architecture is really costly, facing a scalability problem. Thus, we propose to use a structured P2P (called Dynamic Hash Table) for delivering HS between HN. This type of architecture is studied by IETF with the REsource Location And Discovery (RELOAD) Base Protocol. This solution is implanted and deployed here to be a proof of the concept. This test-bed enables the study of delay and security overhead in a real system. Eventually, the presented solutions are recaptured in order to see their advantages/ disadvantages. In addition, we introduce other perspectives in terms of HSs and network interconnection

As redes de telecomunicações têm vindo a sofrer constantes evoluções desde a sua criação. Em 2012 o surgimento da tecnologia WebRTC veio revolucionar as telecomunicações. WebRTC é uma tecnologia que permite comunicações de áudio e vídeo entre browsers sem necessitar da instalação de qualquer plugin. O presente trabalho propõe-se a estudar, criar e testar uma solução que permita interoperabilidade da tecnologia WebRTC com as redes legadas. Esta dissertação foi desenvolvida no âmbito de um projeto Europeu chamado Wonder. O principal objetivo deste projeto é construir uma framework que facilite o desenvolvimento de aplicações WebRTC, dando um enfoque especial a interoperabilidade entre os diferentes domínios de aplicações. Neste documento é descrito todo o funcionamento da API Wonder e apresentadas as suas principais componentes sendo apresentado a componente principal que irá permitir a interoperabilade com as redes legadas (IMS e PSTN). São ainda descritos todos os testes realizados de forma a comprovar o correto funcionamento da solução, bem como as componentes utilizadas nos testes. Para além dos testes funcionais foram ainda realizados testes de qualidade, para identificar a qualidade de áudio/vídeo na transmissão. Os resultados dos testes realizados demonstraram total interoperabilidade entre os diferentes domínios estudados e as redes IMS e PSTN, mas quanto a qualidade de áudio/vídeo notou-se alguns problemas devido às interferências da rede. O resultado final deste trabalho é a construção e demonstração de toda uma API que permita a intercomunicação entre os diferentes domínios e as redes legadas.
The telecommunication networks have been growing since their creation. In 2012, the WebRTC technology appeared and revolutionized the telecommunications environment. This is a technology that allows audio and video communications between browsers without installing additional plugins. With this project is proposed to study the WebRTC technology, and create a solution that, with this technology, that can be able to interoperate with legacy networks. This work was developed within a European project called Wonder. The main goal of this project is to build a framework which makes the development of WebRTC applications easier, with a view of making the interoperability, between different domains, possible. In this documento is described all the Wonder functionalities and is presented all their components and the main component that allows the interoperability between legacy networks. It is described the tests that were made to prove that the solution and all the components are working correctly. Beyond these tests, were done tests to identify the quality of audio and video transmission. The results of this tests prove, that the solution is totally functional and allows to have interoperability between different domains, in the quality tests was noticed that exist some problems because of network interferences. The final result of this work, is to build an API that allows interoperability between different domains and legacy networks.

Dispositifs et USN portables intelligents émergent rapidement en offrant de nombreux services fiables facilitant la vie des gens. Ces petits terminaux et terminaux très utiles besoin d'un substrat de communication globale pour fournir un service complet de l'utilisateur final global. En 2010, ITU -T a fourni les exigences pour supporter des applications et services USN dans le Next Generation Network (NGN) de l'environnement d'exploiter les avantages du réseau de base. L'un des principaux marchés prometteurs pour l'application et les services USN est la e- santé. Il fournit le suivi des patients en continu et permet une grande amélioration dans les services médicaux. D'autre part, des Véhicules Ad-hoc NETwork (VANET) est une technologie émergente qui permet une communication intelligente entre les véhicules mobiles. Intégrer VANET avec USN a un grand potentiel pour améliorer la sécurité routière et la fluidité du trafic. La plupart des applications VANET sont appliqués en temps réel et ils sont sensibles à retarder, en particulier ceux liés à la sécurité et à la santé. Ubiquités Sensor Network (USN) is a conceptual network built over existing physical networks. It makes use of sensed data and provides knowledge services to anyone, anywhere and at anytime, and where the information is generated by using context awareness. Smart wearable devices and USNs are emerging rapidly providing many reliable services facilitating people life. Those very useful small end terminals and devices require a global communication substrate to provide a comprehensive global end user service. In 2010, the ITU-T provided the requirements to support USN applications and services in the Next Génération Network (NGN) environment to exploit the advantages of the core network. One of the main promising markets for the USN application and services is the e-Health. It provides continuous patients’ monitoring and enables a great improvement in medical services. On the other hand, Vehicular Ad-Hoc NETwork (VANET) is an emerging technology, which provides intelligent communication between mobile vehicles. Integrating VANET with USN has a great potential to improve road safety and traffic efficiency. Most VANET applications are applied in real time and they are sensitive to delay, especially those related to safety and health. In this work, we propose to use IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) as a service controller sub-layer in the USN environment providing a global substrate for a comprehensive end-to-end service. Moreover, we propose to integrate VANETs with USN for more rich applications and facilities, which will ease the life of humans. We started studying the challenges on the road to achieve this goal

Les réseaux mobiles ont un modèle en couches, avec: (1) un réseau d'accès IP offrant une connectivité IP aux utilisateurs; (2) une couche de contrôle de service, l'IMS; (3) une couche d'interaction pour le contrôle des politiques réseau, le PCC. Ce modèle, centralisé et hiérarchique, serait à l'origine de problèmes de passage à l'échelle et de qualité de service en cas d'explosion du volume de trafic de données à transporter. Dans cette thèse, un nouveau modèle pour les réseaux mobiles du futur est proposé: Ultra Flat Architecture (UFA). UFA utilise l'IMS pour le contrôle de tout type d'applications. UFA est dite plate car elle réduit le nombre de types de nœuds réseau à 2 principalement: (1) une Gateway UFA regroupant à la fois l'ensemble des fonctionnalités du réseau d'accès IP, de l'IMS et du PCC; (2) le terminal. Après la conception de l'architecture, nous avons spécifié et évalué trois procédures réseau principales pour UFA : l'enregistrement/authentification, l'établissement de service et la mobilité. Nous avons optimisé les deux premières procédures par rapport aux procédures standardisées de l'IMS. Par exemple, la procédure d'établissement de service présente un délai réduit et permet une configuration du service ou de la couche de transport selon les ressources disponibles dans le réseau. Nous avons développé une procédure de mobilité pour UFA, se basant sur le transfert, d'une Gateway UFA à une autre, des contextes de toutes les couches OSI liés au terminal, et sur la détermination proactive par la Gateway UFA des paramètres de toutes les couches du terminal. Tous les résultats obtenus montrent le grand intérêt d'UFA et des architectures plates plus généralement.

Néanmoins, cette coexistence quotidienne ne signifie pas qu’ils seront en mesure d’être pleinement inter-opérationnels. Nous pensons alors que le roaming concernera différents réseaux d’accès gérés par différentes entités : des opérateurs de réseaux cellulaires, des fournisseurs d’accès Internet (FAI) et certaines organisations ou individus. Notre travail de recherche s’articule ainsi autour d’un scénario de roaming hétérogène, concernant les réseaux d’accès sans fil gérés par différents opérateurs. Notre objectif principal est de fournir une architecture de roaming qui permet l’interopérabilité des réseaux hétérogènes dans le cadre d’un environnement multi-opérateurs, et ce sans grands changements dans les architectures sans fil actuelles. L’un des objectifs de la nouvelle génération des réseaux sans fil NGWNs (Next GenerationWireless Networks) est la possibilité de transférer de manière transparente les services entre les réseaux sans fil de différentes technologies d’accès. L’objectif est de tirer partie de la popularité et des hauts débits des UWNs (UnlicensedWireless Networks) afin d’améliorer les services mobiles. Bien qu’il existe déjà des solutions qui tentent de répondre à la problématique de la mobilité de service, la plupart d’entre elles sont basées sur l’hypothèse que les opérateurs mobiles sont également propriétaires des réseaux WiFi / WiMAX. La réalité est que, en dépit du fait que les opérateurs mobiles investissent énormément dans le déploiement de leurs propres UWNs, de nombreux UWNs indépendants peuvent être utilisés comme des extensions de ces réseaux mobiles
In a future, existing wireless access technologies such as WiFi (Wireless Fidelity), WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) will coexist on daily basis. Nevertheless, this daily coexistence does not imply that they will be able to fully interoperate. Thus, my research work focuses on a specific roaming scenario which is formed by heterogeneous wireless access networks managed by different operators. Our main objective is to provide a seamless (for the mobile user) roaming architecture to enable network interoperability under a heterogeneous multi-operator wireless environment, all this without major changes in current wireless architectures. In this regard, we also aim at reducing the roaming signaling exchange caused by the authentication and authorization mechanisms in the network registration and session initiation process while providing robust network security. The results obtained through computer simulation indicated that the use of our approach reduces significantly the network registration and session initiation delay, hence outperforming the traditional Roaming-SIP method. We also confirmed that the wireless delay introduced by the VN increases considerably when increasing the traffic congestion level in the Visiting Networks. Thus, from the simulations results we can state that by reducing the signaling message exchange, and maintaining acceptable congestion levels in the wireless network, hence reducing the wireless transmission delay, we can improved the overall de-lay in both network registration and session initiaition process

The master’s thesis describes IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) in terms of IMS core ele- ments (functional description, different implementation, signaling etc.) Communication protocols SIP and DIAMETER, together with SNMP protocol, which is used for collecting data are briefly described in this thesis.Thesis is also describing various IMS projects to- gether with Open IMS project, for whom was this surveillance system designed. Next part deals with architecture design of surveillance system along with management options implemented in surveillance system for users and administrators. The main part of master’s thesis deals with the description of the surveillance system for the experimental school Open IMS network and describes the remote configuration of core elements and monitoring of network traffic, together with the monitoring servers performance. The most of the data in the designed surveillance system are processed into graphs, which are regularly updated. The final part of master’s thesis describes the configuration and implementation of monitoring tools MRTG and NfSen that were used in created web based surveillance system.

IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is the next generation of telecommunication systems. The system is based on an IP network and uses technologies from the Internet. The IMS system is designed to evolve from a telephone system into a general information and communication system. It is meant to include television, Video on Demand (VoD), interactive services etc, etc. It is designed to simplify the implementation of newservices in telecom networks. This report investigates security aspects of VoD services when merging an IP Television (IPTV) system with IMS. The investigation covers security functions in IMS, transitionsolutions for authentication of the Set-Top-Box (STB) in IMS, and identifies problems inthe integration of IPTV and IMS. The report concludes that IMS has good solid Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) functions that will provide security and billing functionality. One problemis found in the media control between the STB and the streaming server. This interface lacked specification at the time of investigation, and some problems have been identified. These problems have to be solved before a system can be brought into service and beregarded as secure.

Dans le nouveau paysage de convergence multiservices de l'approche NGN/IMS et en considérant les besoins de l'utilisateur NGN qui est mobile dans un environnement très hétérogène, nous avons proposé des adaptations informationnelles, architecturales et organisationnelles. Ces adaptations permettent de surveiller la mobilité inter et intra réseaux et de garantir la continuité de la QoS de bout en bout dans un environnement mono et multi provider(s). En effet, nous avons constaté que les bases de connaissances des profils des utilisateurs manquaient d'informations de QoS. Notre première contribution est donc d'ordre informationnel. Des informations de QoS sont ajoutées à la base HSS afin de l'enrichir. Ce que nous y exprimons sous forme de " profil de QoSd ". Ces nouvelles informations renseignent directement sur les décisions à prendre en fonction du profil utilisateur (préférences de QoS et de tarification, bandwidth, localisation, etc. ). Ainsi cette nouvelle base de connaissances orientée QoS permettra les adaptations dynamiques et rendra, par conséquent, la session IMS plus efficace. Nous avons proposé une modélisation de ces informations de QoS relatives aux profils des utilisateurs et aux services IMS offerts en utilisant les classes CIM que nous appelons " Pattern d'information IMS orienté QoS ". Du point de vue architectural, nous avons été amenés à définir de nouveaux composants afin d'intercepter les nouvelles informations de QoS nécessaires pour gérer et garantir la QoS demandée lors d'une session IMS en temps réel. Cette deuxième contribution forme le sous système " Interworking QoS Management Subsystem : IQMS ". IQMS collecte les informations extraites des protocoles impliqués lors d'une session IMS mobile et gère la mobilité des utilisateurs (QoS handover et QoS interworking) et de la session. Notre troisième contribution consiste à proposer un sous-système organisationnel pour la gestion de la QoS supportant la personnalisation du service dans un environnement multi providers, où un utilisateur pourrait s'abonner à un ou plusieurs opérateurs selon des critères de QoS. In the new landscape of multi-service convergence of the NGN/IMS approach and considering the needs of the user of NGN, that is mobile in a very heterogeneous environment, we have proposed informational, architectural and organizational adaptations in order to monitor the inter network mobility of access and ensure the complete continuity of the QoS in such an environment. Indeed, we have noticed that the bases of the knowledge of the users' profiles lack decision-making information relative to a later analysis. Consequently, there is a need to raise the level of abstraction of the available information. Our first contribution is therefore informational. Decisional information are added to the HSS basis to enrich the knowledge base, which is expressed under the form of "profile of QoSd", where the new information inform directly the decisions to be taken according to the user's profile (preferences QoS and pricing, bandwidth, location. . . . ). Thus, this new knowledge basis will allow dynamic adaptations and will, therefore, make the IMS session more effective. We have, therefore, modeled QoS information relative to users' profiles and IMS offered services by using the CIM classes that we call "QoS Pattern of the IMS information". From the architectural point of view, we have simulated new components to intercept the useful lacking information to ensure the management of an IMS session in real time. Our second contribution consists in adding new components of constituent management IQMS: "Interworking QoS Management Subsystem", that collect the extracted information from the protocols at all levels in a mobile IMS session and will be able to manage the users' mobility (QoS handover and QoS interworking). Our third contribution is proposed organizational subsystem for QoS management in the multiple providers context when a user can to subscribe to one or several providers according to QoS criteria "Interworking QoS Management Subsystem multiple providers: IQMSmp"

For verification of the functionality of the system, two dissimilar clients are installed, and emulator WAN is applied for simulation of Internet. The product of the theses is the design of the laboratory exercise drafted in such a way that it can be solved by students less knowledgeable of the issues.

Com a ameaça imposta às operadoras por aplicações OTT como WhatsApp ou Skype, diversas iniciativas coordenadas pela GSMA foram criadas para tentar responder a este fenómeno. Paralelamente, com a evolução de tecnologias como HTML5 e WebRTC, novos serviços como o Twilio têm surgido, oferecendo APIs para o desenvolvimento de novas aplicações Web. No entanto, a integração destas tecnologias em tradicionais redes de telecomunicações não faz parte das actuais especificações. Sendo assim, o objectivo desta dissertação consiste na especificação e implementação de um protótipo baseado nestas tecnologias emergentes, integrado com uma rede IMS. Primeiramente, foi feito um estudo do estado de arte, definindo requisitos e casos de uso a serem explorados. De seguida, o desenho da solução foi feito e implementado, tendo sido criado uma plataforma que alia WebRTC e a OneAPI da GSMA (que define funcionalidades básicas para operadores), oferecendo interoperabilidade entre ambos os mundos. A solução é composta por um servidor aplicacional que expõe a API e gateway WebRTC, tendo sido testada e considerada adaptada às necessidades estabelecidas.
With the threat to operators by OTT applications such as Skype or WhatsApp, several initiatives coordinated by GSMA were created in an effort to respond to this phenomenon. In parallel, with the evolution of technologies such as HTML5 and WebRTC, new services such as Twilio are now available, offering APIs for web application development. However, the integration of these technologies and traditional telecommunication networks is not a part of the current standards. As such, the objective of this dissertation is the specification and implementation of a prototype based on these emerging technologies, integrated in an IMS network. First, a state-of-the-art analysis was made, defining requirements and use-cases to be explored. Secondly, the design and implementation of the solution was done, creating a platform that unites WebRTC and GSMA’s OneAPI (which exposes basic operator features), offering interoperability between both worlds. The solution is composed by an application server that exposes the API and a WebRTC gateway, having been successfully tested and adapted to the established needs.

Ubiquitous systems imagined by Mark Weiser are emerging thanks to the development of embedded systems and plug-n-play protocols like the Universal Plug aNd Play (UPnP), the Intelligent Grouping and Resource Sharing (IGRS), the Device Pro le for Web Services (DPWS) and Apple Bonjour. Such protocols follow the service oriented architecture (SOA) paradigm and allow an automatic device and service discovery in a home network. Once devices are connected to the local network, applications deployed for example on a smart phone, a PC or a home gateway, discover the plug-n-play devices and act as control points. The aim of such applications is to orchestrate the interactions between the devices such as lights, TVs and printers, and their corresponding hosted services to accomplish a specific human daily task like printing a document or dimming a light. Devices supporting a plug-n-play protocol announce their hosted services each in its own description format and data content. Even similar devices supporting the same services represent their capabilities in a different representation format and content. Such heterogeneity along with the protocols layers diversity, prevent applications to use any available equivalent device on the network to accomplish a specific task. For instance, a UPnP printing application cannot interacts with an available DPWS printer on the network to print a document. Designing applications to support multiple protocols is time consuming since developers must implement the interaction with each device pro le and its own data description. Additionally, the deployed application must use multiple protocols stacks to interact with the device. More over, application vendors and telecoms operators need to orchestrate devices through a common application layer, independently from the protocol layers and the device description. To accomplish interoperability between plug-n-play devices and applications, we propose a generic approach which consists in automatically generating proxies based on an ontology alignment. The alignment contains the correspondences between two equivalent devices descriptions. Such correspondences actually represent the proxy behaviour which is used to provide interoperability between an application and a plug and play device. For instance, the generated proxy will announce itself on the network as a UPnP standard printer and will control the DPWS printer. Consequently, the UPnP printing application will interact transparently with the generated proxy which adapts and transfers the invocations to the real DPWS printer. We implemented a prototype as a proof of concept that we evaluated on several real UPnP and DPWS equivalent devices

To provide voice communications in 4G mobile networks, the operators start to deploy the VoLTE (Voice over Long Term Evolution) solution. Based on the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem), VoLTE utilizes Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as the signaling protocol to establish the real-time video/voice communications. With the VoLTE deployment, there are more and more UEs (User Equipments) equipped with SIP/IMS software, and consequently the demands of IP addresses are significantly increased. Therefore, the IP address shortage problem is more and more important. Network Address Translation (NAT) is the practical solution and widely deployed to ease the IP address shortage problem. However the NAT devices blocks the incoming requests from Internet (i.e., public IP network), and do not translate the application-layer IP/port. These issues are referred to as the NAT traversal (NAT-T) problems. To solve the NAT-T problems, several famous solutions such as Session Traversal Utilities for NAT (STUN), Universal Plug-and-Play (UPnP), Traversal Using Relay NAT, Session Initiation Protocol-Application-Layer Gateway (SIP-ALG) and Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) have been proposed. Among these NAT-T solutions, the SIP-ALG solution is easily deployed and has been adopted by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications to provide the multimedia communications in the SIP/IMS networks. The SIP-ALG solution utilizes the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) proxy to translate the media sessions. However, the translation performed by the RTP proxy increases the transmission delay and the packet loss possibility to the media sessions. This thesis proposes an enhanced SIP-ALG (eSIP-ALG) solution to improve the throughput and delay by removing the additional IP/port translation from the RTP proxy.

3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has adopted Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to manage multimedia sessions in IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS). Most related work utilizes SIP to perform vertical handover between heterogeneous networks such as Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), and evaluates the performance of SIP and other mobility management protocols (e.g., Mobile IP). However, these articles do not consider secure access to IMS. Specifically, a multimedia service is not granted until a Security Association (SA) is established between the User Equipment (UE) and IMS. The SA includes parameters (e.g., encryption algorithm, integrity algorithm and security parameter index) and selectors (i.e., IP addresses, ports and the transport protocol). When a UMTS-WLAN dual-mode UE moves from UMTS to WLAN and vice versa, the UE obtains a new IP address from the new attached network. The SA should be re-established. We proposes to update the SA instead of re-establishment in order to reduce the IMS re-registration latency. In addition, the UE should perform the re-INVITE transaction if this UE has an ongoing session. However, the wireless bandwidth is limited resource and more signalling increases the handover latency. To improve the performance, this paper proposes that the UE transmits its Session Description Protocol (SDP) information to the Call Session Control Function (CSCF) in re-registration procedure, and then the CSCF represents the UE to perform re-INVITE transaction with the called party.

In this thesis, we evaluate SIP and IMS signaling flows such as registration, deregistration, INVITE transaction and MESSAGE transaction in various wireless and mobile network environments including 802.11b/g, GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), 3G and HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access). In addition, we also utilize the header compression mechanism defined in RFC 3261 and SigComp defined in RFC 3320 to reduce the signaling overhead of SIP and IMS message flows. Finally, we compare the session setup delay of the original SIP/IMS signaling with that of the compressed SIP/IMS signaling in order to identify the most appropriate way to reduce signaling overhead in the wireless and mobile environments.

Durante os últimos anos, o campo das telecomunicações tem sido alvo de enormes desenvolvimentos tecnológicos e comerciais. A inovação tecnológica, estimulada através do crescimento dos serviços de dados e multimédia, tem sido um factor importante para impulsionar esses mesmos desenvolvimentos. Esta inovação está a permitir reduzir custos e aumentar a capacidade das redes para que estas possam suportar novos serviços e aplicações. Uma das principais inovações consiste no surgimento do conceito de Rede de Nova Geração (RNG). Este é um conceito que foi introduzido para lidar com as mudanças no campo das telecomunicações e com uma série de aspectos, como a desregulamentação dos mercados, o aumento significativo do uso da Internet, etc. O IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) é uma arquitectura de redes de telecomunicações de nova geração, definida pelo 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), que procura introduzir uma solução para o dilema da convergência entre as redes tradicionais de telecomunicações (fixo e móvel) e as tecnologias emergentes como o Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) e os serviços de Internet. Esta arquitectura tem também um conjunto de requisitos de alto nível que devem ser tidos em conta como: baseada em Internet Protocol (IP), acesso independente, suporte para roaming, qualidade de serviço, múltiplos serviços e segurança. De salientar que estes requisitos pretendem realçar as vantagens na utilização desta arquitectura. Este relatório descreve o trabalho realizado pelo aluno Alejandro José da Fonte de Caires no desenvolvimento de um Comunicador Multimédia para RNGs. Devido aos factores citados anteriormente e tendo em conta que o IMS é actualmente a arquitectura procurada pelos operadores de telecomunicações para o fornecimento de serviços e aparenta ser um tema fundamental na estratégia futura dos mesmos, o Comunicador desenvolvido tem como objectivo ser utilizado numa arquitectura IMS. During the past years, the field of telecommunications has been the target of enormous technological and commercial developments. Technological innovation, stimulated by the growth of data services and multimedia, has been an important factor to boost these developments. This innovation is expected to reduce costs and increase network capacity to enable them to support new services and applications. One of the main innovations is the emergence of the concept of Next Generation Networking (NGN). This is a concept that has been introduced to deal with changes in telecommunications and a range of issues, including deregulation of markets, the increase of Internet usage, etc. IMS is an architecture of telecommunication networks of new generation, standardized by 3GPP, which seeks to introduce a solution to the dilemma of convergence between traditional telecommunications networks (fixed and mobile) and emerging technologies such as VoIP and Internet services. This architecture also has a set of high-level requirements that must be taken into account such as: IP-based, independent access, support for roaming, Quality of Service (QoS), multiple services and security. Be noted that these requirements aim to highlight the advantages in using this architecture. This report describes the work done by the student Alejandro José da Fonte de Caires in the development of a Multimedia Communicator for NGN. Due to the factors mentioned above and taking into account that the IMS architecture is currently sought by telecommunications operators to provide services and appears to be a key topic in their future strategy, this Communicator is intended to be used in an IMS architecture.

With the increase speed of the Internet in mobile devices, some companies saw an opportunity to develop successful applications, known as Over-The-Top applications. Some of these OTTs offer the same products as the telecommunications companies at a lower price, or even for free. This lead to two major problems: a decrease in revenue on the Telecommunications market, and a demand for faster access to the internet. A response to OTTs emerged from the Telecommunications world with the creation of the Rich Communications Services (RCS). This specification provides the user new ways to communicate and share content. It was also clear to the telecommunications industry that an improvement to the network was needed and the migration from Circuit Switch to all IP networks was essential. From this need, the 3GPP group created the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). This network architecture can deliver services and multimedia content using industry standards and provide compatibility across all operators and legacy networks. On this project, a new service is added to the IMS network, in order to deliver image and video advertisement to RCS clients.

Abstract:
Η παρούσα εργασία διαπραγματεύεται το Σύστημα Παρουσίας και Στιγμιαίου Μηνύματος (Presence and Instant Messaging System) πάνω σε αρχιτεκτονικά πλαίσια που στηρίζονται στο πρωτόκολλο SIP, π.χ. το IMS. Σκοπός μας είναι μέσω της εφαρμογής που υλοποιούμε, να μπορεί ένας χρήστης να απολαμβάνει την υπηρεσία παρουσίας με τη βοήθεια γραπτού κειμένου (text). Στο Κεφάλαιο 1, δίνεται μια εισαγωγή σχετικά με τις έννοιες αλλά και τις οντότητες που πλαισιώνουν το μηχανισμό αυτό. Εν συνεχεία, παραθέτουμε την αρχιτεκτονική του συστήματος, δηλαδή τη γραφική διεπαφή, με την οποία ο χρήστης αλληλεπιδρά. Στο Κεφάλαιο 3, ακολουθεί λεπτομερής περιγραφή της υλοποίησης και δίνονται επεξηγήσεις για συγκεκριμένα σημεία του κώδικα. Στο κεφάλαιο 4, δύο χρήστες τρέχουν παράλληλα την εφαρμογή και παρουσιάζεται το σύστημα μας τόσο από τη μεριά των χρηστών όσο και από τη μεριά του εξυπηρετητή. Στο Κεφάλαιο 5, γίνεται αναφορά σε πολύπλοκα σενάρια και δίνονται περιγραφικές λύσεις που μπορούν να αποτελέσουν βάση για τον αναγνώστη εκείνο που επιθυμεί να διευρύνει περισσότερο τους ορίζοντές του στο συγκεκριμένο αντικείμενο. Τέλος, στο παράρτημα βρίσκεται ο πηγαίος κώδικας καθώς επίσης και τα αρχεία που χρειάστηκε να τροποποιήσουμε προκειμένου ο εξυπηρετητής να μας προσφέρει την αντίστοιχη υπηρεσία.
This thesis discusses the "Presence and Instant Messaging System" on an architectural framework based on the protocol SIP, eg IMS. Our goal is to implement an application that a typical user can interract with. This application provides this service using written text (text). Chapter 1 is an introduction to the concepts and entities in the specific area. Subsequently, we present the architecture of the system, ie the graphical interface of our application. In Chapter 3, we give a detailed description of the implementation plus explanations on specific parts of the code. In Chapter 4, two users run simultaneously our implementation.In Chapter 5, we refer to complex scenarios and we give solutions for them.Finally, in the Annex we attach the source code as well as the files that we had to modify for the server in order to offer us this service.
