ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Die Siraiki-Bewegung in Pakistan Der Artikel beschreibt die Entstehung der nationalen Bewegung der Volksgruppe der Siraiki im südlichen pakistanischen Pandschab. Das Gebiet ist wirtschaftlich unterentwickelt, und seine politischen Fuhrer fühlen sich kulturell und wirtschaftlich benachteiligt. Seit den 60er Jahren dient ihnen die Sprache Siraiki als Symbol zur Mobilisierung der offentlichen Meinung gegen diese als ungerecht empfundene Lage. Viele von ihnen meinen, daft die Einrichtung einer selbstandigen Siraiki-Provinz ihnen Gerechtigkeit bringen könnte. Wahrend intellektuelle Siraiki die Unterschiede zwischen dem Siraiki und dem Pandschabi betonen, bezeichnen die Pandschabi sie als Dialekt ihrer Sprache und die Siraiki-Bewegung als eine Verschwörung zur Schwächung des Pandschab. Da die Pandschabi die Mehrheit der herrschenden Elite des Landes stellen, kann man die Siraiki-Bewegung als ein Beispiel für einen Machtkampf zwischen Protoelite und Elite infolge ungerechter wirtschaftlicher Entwicklung betrachten. RESUMO La sirajka movado en Pakistano La artikolo priskribas la estigon de la etna-nacia movado de la sirajkoj en la suda pakistana Panĝabio. La regiono estas ekonomie subevoluinta, kaj ĝiaj politikaj gvidantoj opinias esti kulture kaj ekonomie malavantaĝe traktataj. De la 1960-aj jaroj ili uzas la sirajkan lingvon kiel simbolon por direkti la publikan opinion kontraŭ tiu situacio sentata maljusta. Multaj el ili kredas, ke la starigo de memstara provinco Sirajkio povus forigi la maljustecon. Dum la sirajkaj intelektuloj emfazas la diferencojn inter la sirajka kaj la pangaba lingvoj, la pangaboj konsideras gin dialekto de la pangaba kaj la sirajkan movadon konspiro por malfortigo de Pangabio. Car la plejmulto de la elito de la lando estas pangaboj, oni povas konsideri la sirajkan movadon kazo de potencolukto inter protoelito kaj elito sekve de maljusta ekonomia evoluigo.

Abstract:

This study investigates the attitudes and preferences of advanced learners of the Siraiki language towards Siraiki dictionaries available in Pakistan. Descriptive in nature, the study is quantitative approach and has employed survey questionnaire as tool of data collection. The main objectives of the study are: a) to identify the attitudes of advanced learners of the Siraiki language towards using a dictionary for learning a language, b) to identify the types of dictionaries that advanced learners of the Siraiki language prefer most and c) to identify the preferences of advanced learners of the Siraiki language towards their dictionaries and to identify their hurdles and problems towards dictionary use. The subjects of this study comprised 230 advanced learners of Siraiki (138 male and 92 female) from 18 to 24 years of age. The number of respondents at graduate level was 212 and 18 at masters’ level respectively. The subjects of the study were selected through purposive sampling technique. This study reported that 58 out of 230 respondents owned dictionaries. Majority of the respondents reported that dictionary use was a time-consuming task. Siraiki dictionaries were found deficient in organizing lexemes in canonical form, provision of collocations and definitions. Most of the respondents used dictionaries for meaning, followed by pronunciation, spelling, grammar, examples and notes on usage notes respectively. All the students were willing on getting training on dictionary use.

Abstract:

This paper applies textual analysis and an ethnographic approach to explore the role of women within the Siraiki cultural and literary domain. The debate about Siraiki as an ethno linguistic identity is a postcolonial development in Pakistan. Siraiki language speakers identify themselves being distinct from any other ethnic group in Pakistan. Based on this claim they resist the hegemonic control of Punjabi-Mohajir over their resources, area and disregard towards their literary and cultural tradition. The demand for a new Siraiki province within the federation of Pakistan by bifurcating Punjab is an outcome of this lack of political recognition. We contend that due to social taboos and patriarchal pressures, these women are experiencing suppression that results in limited visibility within mainstream literary circles. The lack of both appreciation and mentorship for their creative outputs has resulted in the dearth of literature produced by Siraiki women writers. The objective of this study is to indicate how this oppression can result in an enactment of power through creative writing. In order to substantiate our argument, we rely on selected works by Iqbal Bano, Shabnam Awan and Mussarat Kalanchvi. Abstract:

The history of class conflict in Siraiki Waseeb is as old as the Indus Valley Civilization. The history of Indus Valley is interpreted as a conflict of invading nations. The Siraiki Waseeb can be called the center of the valley. The class system of the Siraiki Waseeb is influenced by the arrival of various nations. The ancient Australoid tribes, the Dravidians and the Aryans had a profound effect on the civilization here. This division is wrapped not only in economic but also in the social cloak of religion. Along with the division of rich and poor, the system of division between pure and impure, masters and slaves, feudal, landlord and ‘kammi’ has sustained itself parallel to the caste system. The roots of the class system are still embedded in the Waseeb. These class factors have been analyzed in the article under discussion.

Abstract:

The focus of the present research was to find out the Role of Siraiki Language in Teaching/Learning English Language at graduation Level. By this study the researcher attempted to expose the intentions for which the students and instructors make use of Siraiki in their English language classroom inside and outside activities and in the same way, to show the actions and the situations in which they select for not using their L1. To explore a clear comprehension of the current subject matter, the research targeted on the 577 students and the 156 teachers. Data was collected through questionnaires. The data was examined through SPSS (statistical package for social sciences) 23 version. Data were inspected using descriptive analysis, Analysis of variance (ANOVA), T-Test and Cronbach's alpha. The findings of the present study showed that the students and the teachers indicated highly positive perceptions concerning the use of Siraiki language in EFL classroom.

Abstract:

This paper aims to examine the notions of politeness in the context of the most repeated strategies of request that the Pakistani undergraduate English language learners (ELLs) articulate in multilingual classrooms. Guided by the qualitative research design, sixty ELLs comprising two different ethnic groups (Siraiki-speaking and Pashto-speaking) served as the participants. Selected through purposive sampling from a university in Pakistan, the data are collected through discourse completion tasks, role plays, and focus group discussion. Analyzed according to the taxonomy of cross-cultural speech acts realization patterns for requests, the findings of the study reveal that Pakistani ELLs used conventionally indirect requests commonly than supplementary strategies, which were executed through certain traits of politeness. To furnish ELLs with pragmatic competence, this study suggests a few key strategies needed for both in terms of pedagogical practice in Pakistani multilingual classrooms.

Abstract:

Massively parallel sequencing following hybridisation enrichment provides new opportunities to obtain genetic data for various types of forensic testing and has proven successful on modern as well as degraded and ancient DNA. A customisable forensic intelligence panel that targeted 124 SNP markers (67 ancestry informative markers, 23 phenotype markers from the HIrisplex panel, and 35 Y-chromosome SNPs) was used to examine biogeographic ancestry, phenotype and sex and Y-lineage in samples from different ethnic populations of Pakistan including Pothwari, Gilgit, Baloach, Pathan, Kashmiri and Siraiki. Targeted sequencing and computational data analysis pipeline allowed filtering of variants across the targeted loci. Study samples showed an admixture between East Asian and European ancestry. Eye colour was predicted accurately based on the highest p-value giving overall prediction accuracy of 92.8%. Predictions were consistent with reported hair colour for all samples, using the combined highest p-value approach and step-wise model incorporating probability thresholds for light or dark shade. Y-SNPs were successfully recovered only from male samples which indicates the ability of this method to identify biological sex and allow inference of Y-haplogroup. Our results demonstrate practicality of using hybridisation enrichment and MPS to aid in human intelligence gathering and will open many insights into forensic research in South Asia.

Abstract:

English as a medium of instruction and communication is becoming a central pedagogy in various countries in the world. In Pakistan, most of the advanced academic institutions use English as their medium of instruction, however students and teachers have been observed communicating in their first languages, especially Urdu, in the classrooms. This study was conducted at the Institute of Communication and Cultural Studies, University of Management and Technology, to examine the factors that limit students and teachers from communicating in English. Qualitative research methods were employed to find the factors affecting the use of English in English-only classrooms. A total of 130 participants were included in this study. Among them, 68 participants were engaged in student questionnaires. The participants were students of four native languages (Urdu, Punjabi, Siraiki and Pushto) with different level of English language proficiency. Required literature search was performed using key databases and journals, related to applied linguistics, English language and education. Our results demonstrated that most of the students like to communicate in English and be a part of the English-only environment, however they acknowledged some key factors that prevented them from speaking English in the classrooms. Fundamental factors included linguistics, individual, social, psychological and institutional which were largely based upon their beliefs, assumptions, needs and desires. This study may provide insights to the policymakers to work on issues related to communications and medium of instructions in Pakistan. It may also help teachers and educators to understand the underlying factors that compel students to speak their first languages instead of English.

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to explore the number system in Thali, a variety of Punjabi spoken by natives of Thal desert. There are three number categories singular, dual, and plural but all modern Indo Aryan languages have only singular and plural (Bashir & Kazmi, 2012, p. 119). It is one of the indigenous languages of Pakistan from the Lahnda group as described by Grierson (1819) in his benchmark book Linguistic Survey of India. Layyah is one of the prominent areas of Thal regions. The native speakers of Thali use this sub dialect of Saraiki in their household and professional life. The linguistic boundaries of the present Siraiki belt have changed under different linguistic variational rules as described by Labov (1963), Trudgal (2004), Eckert (2002) and Meryhoff (2008). There are many differences between Thali and Saraiki, on phonological, morphological and orthographical levels. Husain (2017) has pointed out linguistic differences between Saraiki and Lahnda and Thali is one of the popular languages of Lahnda spoken in different parts of Thal regions. According to the local language activists, Thali has been greatly influenced by Saraiki and Punjabi. The lexicon of Thali is composed for 20% of Punjabi, 45% of Saraiki, and 5% of loan words particularly English. Another particularity is that Perso-Arabic characters are used to write Thali. The most distinguishing characteristics of Thali are its parts of speech, word order, case marking, verb conjugation and, finally, usage of grammatical categories in terms of number, person, tense, voice and gender. In this perspective, number marking is the area to focus on noun morphology and exclusively on the recognition of number system in Thali nouns. The analysis of linguistic systems including grammar, lexicon, and phonology provide sound justifications of number marking systems in languages of the world (Chohan & García, 2019).

Abstract:

Anti-aging has always been a popular topic, and there are many claims about the existence of factors that can slow, stop, or even reverse the aging process. Siraitia grosuenorii, a local fruit in china, has been used for the treatment of gastritis, sore throats, and whooping cough in traditional Chinese medicine. The individuals who took the juice of Siraitia grosuenorii regularly had increased longevity in the Guangxi Province, which is located in the Southern part of China. In this paper, we fed mice with Siraitia grosuenorii for 10 months to identify the role of Siraitia grosuenorii in anti-aging and to investigate its corresponding mechanism. The results showed that mice fed with Siraitia grosuenorii displayed a slower aging process. The extension of the aging process was due to the enhanced function of HSCs. FACS analysis showed that the number of LSKs, LT-HSCs, ST-HSCs and MPPs from Siraitia grosuenorii mice was decreased. In vitro, a clonigenic assay showed that LT-HSCs from Siraitia grosuenorii mice increased the ability of self-renewal. Moreover, Siraitia grosuenorii mice maintained the quiescence of LSKs, decreased the level of ROS and reduced the amount of senescence associated β-gal positive cells. Furthermore, Siraitia grosuenorii mice decreased the expression of senescence-associated proteins. Siraitia grosuenorii maintained quiescence, decreased senescence and enhanced the function of HSCs, slowing the aging process of mice.

Abstract:

Postoperative sore throat (POST) is one of the common complications after endotracheal intubation under general anesthesia. This work attempted to design and screen out the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compounds containing Lonicera japonica Thunb., Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat., and Siraitia grosvenorii (Swingle) C. Jeffrey ex A. M. Lu et Z. Y. Zhang, and further explored its antibacterial effect on POST. The antibacterial activities of Lonicera japonica, Chrysanthemum morifolium, and Siraitia grosvenorii on Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) UA159 was measured. Lonicera japonica (40 mg/mL), Chrysanthemum morifolium (10 mg/mL), and Siraitia grosvenorii (10 mg/mL) effectively inhibited the growth of S. mutans. Then, 5 different TCM compounds were designed using the U5 (53) uniform design experimentation method. TCM compound C3 (50 mg/mL Lonicera japonica, 10 mg/mL Chrysanthemum morifolium, and 15 mg/mL Siraitia grosvenorii) significantly promoted the inhibition zone and inhibited the biofilm formation of S. mutans. In addition, TCM compound C3 exerted great antibacterial effects on S. mutans and had the least effect on cell viability of primary human pharyngeal epithelial cells. In conclusion, this work demonstrated that TCM compound containing Lonicera japonica, Chrysanthemum morifolium, and Siraitia grosvenorii inhibited the growth of S. mutans. Thus, this study provides a theoretical basis for screening out the optimal compatibility of effective components in TCM mouthwash for relieving POST.

Abstract:

Artikel ini menjelaskan pengaruh lingkungan sosial terhadap hasil belajar siswa di kelas III SD Negeri 038095 Barisan Sirait kecamatan Siempat Nempu Hilir kabupaten Dairi tahun pembelajaran 2021/2022. Penelitian dalam artikel ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analitik. Populasi penelitian melibatkan 31 siswa kelas III SD Negeri 038095 Barisan Sirait kecamatan Siempat Nempu Hilir kabupaten Dairi. Pengambilan sampel dengan mengunakan purposive sample. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil pengujian korelasi dapat dilihat pada nilai koefesien korelasi sebesar 0,991 artinya (0,991) > (0,355) maka diterima. Maka terdapat pengaruh yang sangat kuat antara lingkungan sosial terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas III SD Negeri 038095 Barisan Sirait kecamatan Siempat Nempu Hilir kabupaten Dairi. Dapat juga dilihat dari hasil pengujian uji-t dimana thitung 40,768 ≥ ttabel 2,045sehingga menyatakan bahwa diterima. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh yang signifikan dari lingkungan sosial terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada kelas III SD Negeri 038095 Barisan Sirait kecamatan Siempat Nempu Hilir kabupaten Dairi tahun pembelajaran 2021/2022.

Abstract:

The conditions of cascade extraction and isolation of some active constituents from Siraitia grosvenorii were optimized. The active constituents were extracted by ultrasonic extraction and isolated by chromatography; the obtained active constituents were determined by HPLC and/or spectrophotometry etc. The yields of the active constituents were as follows, mogroside 3.97% (purity 91.84%), polyphenol 3.45%, free polysaccharide 12.53%, free oligosaccharide 11.96%, combined polysaccharide 2.29%, combined oligosaccharide 2.88%, amino acids 6.54% and alkaloid 7.06%. This extraction process could be used as a guideline for the multi-utilization of Siraitia grosvenorii.

Günümüz küresel dünyasında işletmeler pazarda tutunabilmek ve rekabet güçlerini artırmak için kaynaklarını verimli şekilde kullanmak zorundadırlar. Kaynakların verimli kullanılması ile birim maliyetler düşmekte, böylelikle işletmelerin rekabet güçleri artmaktadır. İmalat sektöründe faaliyet gösteren bir işletme için montaj hatlarında görevlerin dengesiz dağılımı, işletme kaynaklarının verimsiz kullanılmasına neden olmaktadır. Bu nedenle montaj hattı dengeleme çalışmaları kaynakların verimli kullanılması açısından önem kazanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada beyaz eşya üreten bir işletmenin montaj hattı ele alınmıştır. İşletmede montaj bandının mevcut durumu incelendiğinde iş yüklerinin dengesiz dağıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan çalışma ile görevlerin iş istasyonlarına dengeli bir şekilde dağıtılarak %30 olan denge kaybını azaltmak ve aynı zamanda montaj hattında çalışan 18 işçi sayısını da azaltarak verimliliğinin artırılması istenmektedir. Bu çalışmada montaj hattı dengeleme yöntemi olarak sezgisel yöntem olan Sıralı Pozisyon Ağırlıklı Metot ve Ters Sıralı Pozisyon Ağırlıklı Metot; analitik yöntem olan 0-1 Tamsayılı Programlama seçilmiştir. Bu yöntemler ile hat dengeleme çalışmaları sonucunda, denge kaybı %30’ dan %11’e ve montaj bandındaki 18 olan işçi sayısı 14’e düşürülmüştür. Sıralı Pozisyon Ağırlıklı Metot, Ters Sıralı Pozisyon Ağırlıklı Metot ve 0-1 Tamsayılı Programlama yöntemi ile dengelenen montaj hattı iş istasyonları sürelerine SPSS programında t Testi yapılmıştır ve bu test sonucu hat dengeleme 3 yöntemle de yapıldığında anlamlı bir fark olmayacağı sonucuna varılmıştır.

The conclusion in this study is (1) The management of incoming and outgoing mail has been managed electronically using SIRADI, (2) On the management of incoming mail, the letter is received centrally in the General Section of BUHK UNNES, (3) At the entry letter recording stage, there is still a work unit that requires an agenda book to record incoming mail, (4) At the stage of preparation of the concept of exit letter is done manually then the letter will be processed through SIRADI, (5) There are constraints such as network and human resources factor, there are still work units that do not digitize the letter i.e. by scanning and uploading mail files. Suggestions of this study are: (1) Need to improve the quality of the internet network to reduce network disturbances, thereby expediting the process of managing incoming and outgoing mail through SIRADI, (2) Need to have a unity of understanding between the staff at each work unit, (3) Writing in an agenda book or expedition book, so that when needed can look at the book to reduce input error.

Abstract:

The consumption of sweeteners, natural as well as synthetic sugars, is implicated in an array of modern-day health problems. Therefore, natural nonsugar sweeteners are of increasing interest. We identify here the biosynthetic pathway of the sweet triterpenoid glycoside mogroside V, which has a sweetening strength of 250 times that of sucrose and is derived from mature fruit of luo-han-guo (Siraitia grosvenorii, monk fruit). A whole-genome sequencing of Siraitia, leading to a preliminary draft of the genome, was combined with an extensive transcriptomic analysis of developing fruit. A functional expression survey of nearly 200 candidate genes identified the members of the five enzyme families responsible for the synthesis of mogroside V: squalene epoxidases, triterpenoid synthases, epoxide hydrolases, cytochrome P450s, and UDP-glucosyltransferases. Protein modeling and docking studies corroborated the experimentally proven functional enzyme activities and indicated the order of the metabolic steps in the pathway. A comparison of the genomic organization and expression patterns of these Siraitia genes with the orthologs of other Cucurbitaceae implicates a strikingly coordinated expression of the pathway in the evolution of this species-specific and valuable metabolic pathway. The genomic organization of the pathway genes, syntenously preserved among the Cucurbitaceae, indicates, on the other hand, that gene clustering cannot account for this novel secondary metabolic pathway.

The object of this research is taro that rich in nutrition, and camellia oil contains polyunsaturated fatty acids. In order to improve their utilization value, taro powder and camellia oil were added into cookies. Using low gluten flour as raw material, taro powder, camellia oil, soft sugar, egg liquid and Siraitia grosvenorii honey as auxiliary materials, the processing formula of taro camellia oil cookies was optimized by response surface methodology. Based on sensory evaluation standard and single factor experiment, Box-Behnken experiment design was carried out on the formula of taro camellia oil cookies. The results showed that low gluten flour 50.0 g, camellia oil 41.0 g, taro powder 35.2 g, egg liquid 35.0 g, soft sugar 18.0 g, Siraitia grosvenorii honey 3.1 g, heating temperature 150 °C, baking for 15 min, the sensory score of taro camellia oil cookies was the highest. Under this process, the prepared cookies have the best taste, and all the indexes meet the national standards of China. The cookies made with the experimental formula had intact appearance, crisp taste, clear lines, fine organization, aroma of taro, moderate sweetness, and unique flavour of taro and Siraitia grosvenorii. Optimized processing formula of taro camllia oil cookies will be of interest to other countries because of taro camellia oil cookies not only had rich nutrients and high nutritional value, but also met the needs of consumers and the market, and had a good market prospect.

Abstract:

Mechanical systems are subject to various vibrations and disturbances while working. To get rid of such effects certain control systems have been developed. Sequenced control is a technique that utilizes both PID control and input shaping. It uses input shaping to have the system reach the reference point quickly and without causing vibrations and then switches to PID control to allow the system to be protected against disturbances. Because sequenced control uses PID control and input shaping at optimum times it aims to make use of both of their advantages while negating their disadvantages. When done properly, it’s proven to produce better results than the hybrid control techniques which use both input shaping and PID control together. In this study, transfer function of a single link flexible manipulator has been put into a Simulink Model and it has been subjected to step input, zero vibration input shaping, PID control and sequenced control and the system outputs has been compared. Suggestions have been provided to further improve system performance.

A minor, sweet cucurbitane-glycoside, named iso-mogroside V (1), was isolated from Luo Han Guo ( Siraitia grosvenorii (Swingle) C. Jeffery) along with five previously reported mogrosides. The structure of iso-mogroside V, 3-[(4- O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl)oxy]-mogrol-24- O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)- O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)]β-D-glucopyranoside, was established on the basis of extensive 2D-NMR (COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC) and LC-MS analyses. The five known mogrosides were identified as mogroside V (2), 11-oxo-mogroside V (3), siamenoside I (4), mogrosides IVa (5) and IVe (6). Iso-mogroside V was determined to be approximately 500 times sweeter than 0.5% (w/v) sucrose.
