Abstract:
In the past few years, on-shell analytic methods have played a pivotal role in gauge theory calculations. Since the initial success of these methods in Standard Model physics, considerable activity has led to development and application in supersymmetric gauge theories. In particular, the maximally supersymmetric super Yang-Mills theory received much attention after the discovery of holographic dualities. Here, the spinor helicity formalism and on-shell superspace is described initially for four dimensions. The framework of general unitarity is shown to be a useful tool for calculating loop corrections of scattering amplitudes. Once the foundation is laid, application in three and six dimensions is explored. In six dimensions the case of interest is a theory with (1,1) supersymmetry which captures the dynamics of five-branes in string theory. In this setup the one-loop superamplitude with four and five external particles is calculated and checked for consistency. In three dimensions, the supersymmetric gauge theory that is supposed to describe the dynamics of M2-branes is considered. This particular theory is also related to M-theory via the holographic duality. The goal was to explore and determine the infra-red divergences of the theory. This was achieved by calculating the Sudakov form factor at two loops.

Abstract:
Supersymmetry is an important concept in modern high energy physics. It has found many applications in theoretical considerations of supersymmetric gauge theories as well as in phenomenological approaches to physics beyond the Standard Model. In this report we discuss some recent progress in supersymmetric eld theories in four and six dimensions. After introducing basic ideas and properties of supersymmetry we review the concept of scattering amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric theories in four dimensions before constructing a related framework in six dimensions. Here, the spinor helicity formalism and on-shell superspace were recently developed for six-dimensional gauge theories with (1,1) supersymmetry. We combine these two techniques with (generalised) unitarity, which is a powerful technique to calculate scattering amplitudes in any massless theory. As an application we calculate one-loop superamplitudes with four and ve external particles in the (1,1) theory and perform several consistency checks on our results. Within the area of phenomenological applications of supersymmetric gauge theories, we brie y review basic properties of supersymmetry breaking and gauge mediation in four dimensions. An important recent development has been the concept of theories with broken supersymmetry and metastable vacua. By using the advances of Seiberg duality, we examine a metastable N = 1 Macroscopic SO(N) SQCD model of Intriligator, Seiberg and Shih (ISS). We introduce various baryon and meson deformations, including multitrace operators. In this setup, direct fundamental messengers and the symmetric pseudomodulus messenger mediate supersymmetry breaking to a minimal supersymmetric Standard Model. We compute gaugino and sfermion masses and compare them for each deformation type. We also explore reducing the rank of the magnetic

Abstract:

Abstract:
This research investigates the impact of service characteristics on the importance of service quality dimensions across a wide range of service industries. In this research, six service industries are selected to represent the characteristics peculiar to services. The different importance weightings of service quality dimensions in these service industries are identified and a 16-dimension service quality approach is developed for the empirical analysis. This research identifies that importance is the most powerful and appropriate measurement to assess service quality in an industry level. Two phases of empirical research were conducted using a mixed methodology approach. Phase one -the quantitative study -uses 600 telephone interviews to investigate service quality importance from the customers' perspective. Phase two - the qualitative study - uses 12 in-depth personal interviews with managers from these industries to assess service providers' perceptions. Comparisons are made on service quality issues among the six service industries, among all service quality dimensions, between customers and service providers, and among consumers with different experience level with the service. From the quantitative phase, this research develops a service quality importance model to aid managers and academics in understanding customers' perceptions of service quality. The model is then verified in the qualitative phase. Findings indicate that both customers and service providers perceived each service industry has different weightings relating to service characteristics and service quality dimensions. However, perceptual differences between service providers and consumers were found in all service industries. In addition, the findings suggest that consumers' experience levels have no impact on consumers' service quality importance perception in some services industries, e.g. university and restaurant, and only have impact on a limited number of dimensions in other service industries. The concepts of core dimensions and peripheral dimensions are derived from the interviews with service providers in the qualitative phase. The peripheral dimensions are of particular importance for building competitive advantages.

Abstract:
Perturbative quantum field theory is our most developed framework to accurately analyse many physical phenomena. The standard tool is Feynman diagrams, but at one-loop the heat kernel is also a powerful technique. It is however difficult to go beyond perturbation theory, and symmetry is a key factor. In particular, conformal symmetry strongly restricts the correlators, and have been combined with the average null energy condition (ANEC) to derive the Hofman-Maldacena bounds on the anomaly coefficients in four dimensions. In this thesis we study different problems in perturbative quantum field theory. First, we study the Weyl anomaly for a non-conformal free scalar in a four-dimensional curved spacetime. We diagrammatically understand the definition of the anomaly without classical symmetry, and we precisely interpret the well-known heat kernel calculation. Then, we study higher-derivative gauge theories in six dimensions. These theories are the natural candidate to perturbatively construct non-unitary conformal theories. The calculation is done with the heat kernel method and we derive the general expression of the relevant coefficient, which was previously unknown. Supersymmetry or the addition of a Yang-Mills term are also considered. Finally, we initiate the study of the consequence of the ANEC on non-conformal field theories with the example of the self-interacting scalar in four dimensions. The energy flux of a state with a single field insertion is computed. Starting from the perturbative momentum-space Euclidean correlators, we construct the relevant Wightman function to evaluate the energy flux. The calculation is considerably complicated, but we recover the expected result, opening the possibility of studying more interesting states.

A context of increased demand for wellness tourism is attracting new players in the tourism industry. The concept of wellness tourism has emerged but hasn’t broken through yet: it is already defined and presented in the literature and there is a clear growing demand, however, it is not yet totally clear the players’ strategy, who are still searching how to refine their offerings. The purpose of the present study is to investigate how significant is wellness tourism to today’s consumer needs and how hotels can improve their strategies to better respond to those needs. The study was done with a qualitative case study approach using the Six Senses Hotels Resorts & Spas case and the primary data was collected through a survey and interviews, which were triangulated with secondary data from TripAdvisor. From the results obtained it is evident that, while the categories qualification during a traditional tourism experience and, concretely, a wellness experience can be similar, the prioritization and, itself, the categories value scale that emerge are distinct from each other. Therefore, it is not possible yet to outline the existence of a well-defined gap between wellness tourism concept and the traditional tourism notion. However, with the growing concern for health and the increasing stress levels, the demand for this type of tourism offerings has the tendency to increase. The contribution of this work to Six Senses and other related organizations will be a presentation of possible improvements for the strategy to be implemented, so that they can respond more effectively to consumer needs.

Abstract:
This paper scientometrically investigates concentration in economics between 1956 and 2016 using a large-scale data set. It is revealed that economics is highly concentrated along six dimensions: articles, journals, regions, institutions, authors, and paradigms. North America accounts for half of all published articles and three quarters of all citations, while the top twenty academic institutions reap a share of 42 percent of all citations. The top 100 authors alone receive a share of 15 percent. Five journals account for 27.7 percent of all citations and only 8 percent of all articles, and 3 percent of all citations may be attributed to heterodox schools of thought. The overall Gini coefficient for the distribution of citations among articles is 0.72. Generally, concentration is found to increase towards the top of the discipline and to be higher and more persistent on the level of citations than on the level of articles. Concentration has increased over the last few decades, with the strongest increases occurring already until the 1970s.

This thesis contains an introductory chapter on orbifolds. Besides rudimentary basics we discuss more advanced topics like discrete torsion and asymmetric orbifold groups. As examples we investigate torus compactifications and an asymmetric T^4/Z(3)^L x Z(3)^R orbifold. The following chapter explains the foundations of orientifolds, including open strings with Chan-Paton degrees of freedom. Chapters 4-7 present own research. In chapter 4 we quantize open strings with linear boundary conditions, as they show up in electro-magnetic fields. We quantize the zero- and momentum-modes for toroidal compactifications, too. As an application we calculate the commutator of the coordinate fields in the case of general constant Neveu-Schwarz U(1)-field strengths. Thereby we confirm previous results on non-commutativity of open string theories in Neveu-Schwarz backgrounds. Chapter 5 reviews the results of a former publication [1] on asymmetric orientifolds, supplemented by some recent insights in connection with the preceeding chapter. Chapter 6 is a summary of [2]. In this publication we investigated to what extend one can build phenomenologically interesting models from toroidal orientifolds. By turning on magnetic fluxes on D9-branes we induce chiral fermions. Most calculations are performed in an (equivalent) T-dual picture. Here the number of chiral fermions is given by the topological intersection number of D-branes. In orientifolds of toroidal compactifications one obtains either non-chiral or non-supersymmetric orientifold solutions. However both properties can be reconciled in orientifolds that are obtained from specific supersymmetric orbifold compactifications. In chapter 7 we present the "sigma Omega"-Orientifold on a T^6/Z(4) orbifold. As a very attractive example we investigate a supersymmetric U(4) x U(2)^3_L x U(2)^3_R model that is broken to an MSSM-like model by switching on suitable background fields in the low energy effective action. This chapter is based on our publication [3]. The thesis is supplemented by an appendix with formulas applied in the text, as well as proofs to two theorems that were used as well.

Abstract:
In the first part of this thesis, we discuss some aspects of the four-dimensional N = 2 superconformal index of theories of class S. We first consider a generalized index on S1 × S3/Zr, and prove S-duality in a particular fugacity slice. We then go on to study the (round) superconformal index in the presence of surface defects. We develop a systematic prescription to compute surface defects labeled by arbitrary irreducible representations of the gauge group and subject those defects to various tests in several different limits. Each of these limits is interesting in its own right, and we go on to explore them in some depth. In the second part of this thesis, we construct the gravity duals of large N supersymmetric gauge theories defined on squashed five-spheres with SU(3) × U(1) symmetry. The gravity duals are constructed in Euclidean Romans F(4) gauged supergravity in six- dimensions, and uplift to massive type IIA supergravity. We compute the partition function and Wilson loop in the large N limit of the gauge theory and compare them to their corresponding supergravity dual quantities. As expected from AdS/CFT, both sides agree perfectly. Based on these results, we conjecture a general formula for the partition function and Wilson loop on any five-sphere background, which for fixed gauge theory depends only on a certain supersymmetric Killing vector. We then go on to construct rigid supersymmetric gauge theories on more general Riemannian five-manifolds. We follow a holographic approach, realizing the manifold as the conformal boundary of the six-dimensional bulk supergravity solution. This leads to a systematic classification of five-dimensional supersymmetric backgrounds with gravity duals.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Thesis (MTech (Business Administration))--Peninsula Technikon, Cape Town, 2004
Organizational identification has been regarded as a new control strategy for modem organizations. High levels of organizational members' identification result in various benefits to organizational performance. Among organizational theorists there exists a strong school of thought, which sees organizational culture as the antecedent to organizational identification. Culture, and therefore also organizational culture, is a complex and integrative phenomenon which encompasses the values, assumptions, interactions and behaviours within a particular group. As point of departure, this research adopted Martin's (2000:26) argument that culture is best studied through the cultural artefacts, being the most visible manifestations also of deep-seated values and assumptions. Previous studies on organizational culture-related organizational behaviours have been conducted mostly in a Western-cultural context. It was hoped, by this research, to fill the theoretical gap by establishing a link between organizational culture and organizational identification in Chinese organizations. The relationship between organizational culture and organizational identification was investigated through a survey conducted in three Chinese organizations representing a cross section of industry. The six organizational cultural dimensions, as identified by Glaser, Zamanou, and Hacker (1987: 192-193), formed the basis for the survey instrument, the purpose of which was to establish if, and to what extent, organizational culture, IV as reflected in these dimensions in their positive manifestation, were seen as contributors to organizational identification on the part of employees. The data analysis and interpretation showed that Chinese employees viewed all six cultural dimensions as having a positive influential power on organizational identification. This could be accepted as proof that the theories that organizational culture enhances organizational identification (Kunda, 1992; Ray, 1994; Tompkins and Cheney, 1985; Trice and Beryer, 1993) can be applied both in the Westem-cultural context and Chinese-cultural context. By applying the Friedman and Wilcoxon signed-ranks tests it was established that, among the six cultural dimensions, 'Morale' and 'Supervision' were the most influential dimensions of culture according to the responses of Chinese employees; 'Information Flow', 'Teamwork' and 'Meetings' were the least influential dimensions. As indicated, the study was limited to a survey of employees as regards the six dimensions of organizational culture. Further research would be required in order to provide more concrete and extensive proof of the role played by organizational culture in nurturing employee identification and concomitant commitment.

Abstract:
This thesis is devoted to various aspects of electric-magnetic duality and its gravitational generalization, with an emphasis on the case of maximal supergravity. It is divided into three parts. In the first part, we review the symmetries of maximal supergravity in various dimensions, with a particular focus on the exceptional ``hidden" symmetries that appear upon toroidal dimensional reduction of eleven-dimensional supergravity. Two new results are obtained. First, we prove in detail that these hidden symmetries appear if and only if the Chern-Simons coupling of the eleven-dimensional theory takes the value predicted by supersymmetry. Second, we obtain a manifestly E7(7)-invariant formula for the entropy of non-extremal black holes in four-dimensional N = 8 supergravity. The second part of the thesis concerns the gaugings of extended supergravities in four dimensions. We first show that the embedding tensor formalism does not allow for deformations that cannot be reached by working with the usual Lagrangian in the duality frame picked by the embedding tensor. We then examine through BRST methods the deformations of a large class of non-minimally coupled scalars and abelian vector fields in four dimensions, of which ungauged supergravities offer a prime example. We prove that all local deformations of these models which modify the gauge transformations are of the usual Yang-Mills type, i.e. correspond to the gauging of some rigid symmetries of the undeformed theory. Combined with the first result, this shows that the embedding tensor formalism correctly captures the most general local deformations of these theories. In the third part, we construct self-contained action principles for several types of free fields in six dimensions, whose field strengths satisfy a self-duality condition. These fields are motivated by two considerations. First, their existence allows for a remarkable geometric interpretation of the electric-magnetic duality symmetries of vector fields and linearized gravity in four dimensions. Second, they appear in the spectrum of the chiral N = (4,0) and N = (3,1) ``exotic supergravities" in place of the usual metric. The free action and supersymmetry transformations for those theories are explicitly constructed. We also check that they reduce to linearized maximal supergravity in five dimensions, thus completing the picture of higher-dimensional parents of N = 8 supergravity, at least at the free level. Along the way, we also generalize previous works on linearized supergravity by other authors, in which the graviton and its dual appear on the same footing at the level of the action. We conclude with some open questions, perspectives for future work, and a series of technical appendices.

The purpose of this work is to show an expanse about Gherghetta-Shaposhnikov (GS) scenery through the introduction of a dimensionless parametric in the warped geometry in six dimensions, we suppose which our universe the way that we watch is stood for minkowsk’s 3-brane and the two other are additional dimensions and one of them is compact. In that new model, we are able to achieve the linear process about Einstein’s equation. In order to achieve a perturbation in the metric, so that we are able to locate the equation of motion, consequently finding the massless gravity model. Through these procedures, we have new results about the geometry and physics states in that new scenery. In that new scenery we order the gravity location in a 6-dimensinal geometry, in order to showing an instant where we can find the gravity location, then we get this type of location through an expansion of the GS’s model.

Bondy, Jessica Renee. "A Leisurely Experience (Sometimes): Understanding Sexual Experiences for Couples in a Committed Relationship." Thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10012/7439.

Abstract:
Sexual experiences are an important part of everyday life, yet little research has taken place to understand it’s implication in the leisure realm. As leisure scholars adopt a holistic view of the individual, one’s sexual experiences remain a critical element devoid of empirical research. The current study examined the linkages between leisure and sexual experiences for six couples in the life stage of early adulthood. Findings revealed that relationally, couples conceptualized sexual experiences as a means to express love. At an individual level, it was clear that leisurely dimensions including intrinsic motivation, perceived freedom, involvement, arousal, mastery and spontaneity were present in some sexual experiences. This research provides support that sexual experiences can be plotted on Neulinger’s (1981) Leisure Continuum highlighting the work-like and/or leisurely aspects of relational sexual experiences.

Abstract:
By formulating the six dimensional (0,2) superconformal field theory X[j] on a Riemann surface decorated with certain codimension two defects, a multitude of four dimensional N=2 supersymmetric field theories can be constructed. In this dissertation, various aspects of this construction are investigated in detail for j=A,D,E. This includes, in particular, an exposition of the various partial descriptions of the codimension two defects that become available under dimensional reductions and the relationships between them. Also investigated is a particular observable of this class of four dimensional theories, namely the partition function on the four sphere and its relationship to correlation functions in a class of two dimensional non-rational conformal field theories called Toda theories. It is pointed out that the scale factor that captures the Euler anomaly of the four dimensional theory has an interpretation in the two dimensional language, thereby adding one of the basic observables of the 4d theory to the 4d/2d dictionary.

Abstract:
In this dissertation, we investigatethe supersymmetric completion of curvature squared invariants in five and six dimensionsas well as the construction of off-shell Poincar´e supergravities and their matter couplings. We use superconformal calculus in fiveand six dimensions, which are an off- shell formalisms. In fivedimensions, there are twoinequivalentWeyl multiplets: the standard Weyl multiplet and the dilaton Weyl multiplet. The main difference betweenthese twoWeyl multiplets is thatthe dilaton Weyl multipletcontains a graviphoton in its field content whereas the standard Weyl multiplet does not.A supergravity theory based on the standard Weyl multiplet requires coupling to an external vector multiplet. In five dimensions,we construct two new formulations for 2-derivative off-shell Poincar´e supergravity theories and present the internally gauged models. We also construct supersymmetric completions of all curvature squared terms in five dimensional supergravity with eight supercharges.Adopting the dilaton Weyl multiplet, we construct a Weyl squared invariant, the supersymmetric combination of Gauss-Bonnet combination and the Ricci scalar squared invariant as well as all vector multiplets coupled curvature squared invariants. Since the minimal off-shell supersymmetric Riemann tensor squared invariant has been obtained before, both the minimal off-shell and the vector multiplets coupled curvature squared invariants in the dilation Weyl multiplet are complete. We also constructedan off-shell Ricci scalar squared invariant utilizing the standard Weyl multiplet. The supersymmetric Ricci scalar squared in the standard Weyl multiplet is coupled to n number of vector multiplets by construction, and it deforms the very special geometry. We found that in the supersymmetric AdS5 vacuum, the very special geometry defined on the moduli space is modified in a simple way. We study the vacuum solutions with AdS2 × S3 and AdS3 × S2 structures. We also analyze the spectrum around a maximally supersymmetric Minkowski5, and study the magnetic string and electric black hole. Finally, we generalize our procedure for the construction of an off-shell Ricci scalar squared invariant in five dimensions to N = (1, 0), D = 6 supergravity.

Therefore, multi-style Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) and Touch-Products are continuously developed in trend. The TFT-LCD (Thin film transistor Liquid Crystal display) of LCD structure is the main direction of development, which technic includes the semiconductor, liquid crystal chemistry and optical imaging and so on. It is high-responsible industries in production process, so there are still many rooms to be overcomed in manufacture technology. Thus, we attempt to improve the case of TFT-LCD high dimension tolerance issues, which caused the problems of client’s assembly costs, by the Six Sigma DMAIC quality improvement processes and methods. Abstract:
With the millions of students currently enrolled in higher education, a substantial opportunity arises for college personnel to impact the health and wellness of our future U.S. adult population. Most health scholars agree that wellness is a multidimensional construct. Despite disagreement regarding the optimal number of dimensions - ranging from three to twelve - there is a general consensus around the following: (1) physical, (2) social, (3) spiritual, (4) intellectual, (5) emotional, and (6) occupational. With regard to these six dimensions of wellness, the purpose of this study was to conduct a naturalistic inquiry among graduating health education majors to evaluate which particular dimension of wellness was most influenced or impacted, by their college life experience. Participants were recruited via email and in-class-visits. Of the 173 students who were eligible to participate in this study at the time of recruitment, 58 indicated interest and a final sample size of 30 students were interviewed. When determining which specific dimension of wellness was most impacted or influenced by the college life experience, two narratives of an unplanned pregnancy and alcoholism immediately came to mind. However, when trying to compile all 30 narratives to identify which dimension was most impacted, collectively, I concluded that all dimensions were impacted, and, due to the dimensions' interconnectedness, no one particular dimension could be singled out as most impacted. The six dimensions of wellness interact continually and synergistically. For example, the need for stress management and stress reduction is linked mostly obviously with emotional wellness; however, should one practice yoga for stress relief, he/she is impacting their physical, social, and spiritual health as well. Segmenting students' narratives about their college life experiences into discrete domains represented a challenge - one that reflects how activities that support wellness cannot easily be segmented into discrete domains, either.

In response to the increase in leisure and health demands from consumers of resort hotels, this study aims to better understand the influences of multi-dimensions of the wellness service on the perceived value and behavioral intentions of customers for resort hotels. This study used the purposive sampling method, with consumers who had experience of staying in domestic or foreign resort hotels within the last year as the subjects. A total of 312 valid samples were collected. To verify the hypothesis, results were analyzed with descriptive statistical analysis, reliability and validity analysis, factor analysis, and regression analysis. The results show that the dimensions of personnel service, relaxation, health promotion treatments, the experience of unique tourism resources, and wellness rooms had a positive impact on the consumers' perceptions of value concerning the resort hotels; personnel service, relaxation, health promotion treatments, and wellness rooms had a positive impact on the consumers' behavioral intentions; and the perceived value had a positive impact on their behavioral intentions. Hopefully, the results may serve as a reference for the hotel industry in the fields of service design and market segmentation.

Marx, Anna Aletta. "Development of the positive coping behavioural inventory : a positive psychological approach." Thesis, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/22247.

Full text
Abstract:
The general aim of this research was to determine the theoretical elements of positive coping behaviour and operationalise these into a reliable and valid measurement scale, the Positive Coping Behaviour Inventory (PCBI). Positive coping behaviour was conceptualised in the context of employee wellness in the contemporary world of work. The literature review guided the development of a theoretical model comprising four constructs denoting positive coping behaviour: cognitive, affective, conative and social coping behaviour. Scale development protocols were followed in generating items for each dimension. The empirical study (research scale development) employed a non-probability, purposive sampling technique. The empirical study targeted the total population of N = 525 employees working in Omnia. The Omnia Group comprises a balanced and diversified range of complementary chemical service businesses with a broad geographic spread. The sample was diverse in terms of age, gender and race, overall mood description and general health. The respondents were purposefully selected based on the requirement that respondents had to be working and aged between 19 and 65 years. The empirical research provided evidence of the factorial (multidimensional) validity, unidimensionality, internal consistency reliability and structural and intra-test construct validity of the PCBI. Construct equivalence of the PCBI across age, gender and race groups was also confirmed. The statistical analyses provided evidence of the PCBI being anchored in a strong theoretical foundation with the scale having the potential to provide researchers and practitioners with a reliable instrument to measure the positive coping behaviour of adult workers. Furthermore, the PCBI contributes to the field of positive psychology and industrial and organisational psychology in terms of better understanding of the behavioural dimensions that constitute positive coping behaviour. As a valid theoretical framework, the PCBI dimensions provide useful information on measuring individuals’ positive coping behaviour in a holistic manner by focusing on a broad spectrum of positive psychological constructs in terms of cognitive, affective, conative and social behavioural elements
