An immaculate square-nosed acanthurid fish of the genus Naso, previously misidentified as N. tuberosus, is described as a new species, N. mcdadei. The species is widespread, but appears uncommon, being known from only 10 specimens and five underwater photographs. It is described from specimens from tropical eastern and western Australia, southern Indonesia, Mauritius, and Natal, South Africa. Its occurrence is confirmed from off western Sumatra, the Maldives, Chagos Archipelago and southern Taiwan by photographs. It differs from N. tuberosus (Lacèpede, 1801) and N. tonganus (Valenciennes, 1835

Abstract Introduction: The pituitary gland controls several mechanisms as metabolism, growth, and reproduction, in response to hypothalamic stimuli. The adequate temporal/ spatial expression of transcription factors is mandatory for a normal pituitary development. PROP1 transcription factor is widely known as a key pituitary regulator. The Ames mice is a model of congenital hypopituitarism due to a pathogenic variant in the Prop1 gene, leading to growth retardation, infertility, and hypothyroidism. Aim: To characterize the peripheral levels of pituitary hormones and correlate with gonadal hist

Abstract BACKGROUND Proper skull base reconstruction after endoscopic endonasal pituitary surgery is of great importance to decrease the rate of complications. OBJECTIVE To assess the safety and efficacy of reconstruction with materials other than fat graft and naso-septal flaps (NSF) to avoid their associated morbidities. METHODS The authors’ institutional database for patients who underwent endoscopic endonasal approach for pituitary adenoma was reviewed. Exclusion criteria included recurrence, postradiation therapy, and reconstruction by fat graft or NSF. They were divided into group A, whe

Abstract Objectives Low protein diet and essential amino acid deficient-diet have an impact on body weight and growth and different studies also showed an impact of lysine intake on bone metabolism. Lysine has been shown to promote the absorption of intestinal calcium and to participate in the collagen synthesis through its involvement in the reticulation process of the tropocollagen beams. The assembly of tropocollagen bundle into mature collagen fibers is essential for bone formation and remodeling (civitelli et al, 1992; Fini et al, 2001). Abstract Study question How to ensure a reliable and accurate detection of SARS-CoV–2 in seminal plasma and spermatozoa fractions of human sperm samples? Summary answer This RT-PCR assay showed high sensibility, repeatability and reproducibility for SARS-CoV–2 detection in seminal plasma and spermatozoa fractions, with a detection limit of 17 genomes/reaction. What is known already SARS-CoV–2 pandemic brings numerous concerns, such as the safety of gametes for patients undergoing assisted reproductive technologies, fertility preservation or sperm donation. Abstract Objectives The BCG vaccine, widely used in Brazil in new-borns, induces adjuvant protection for several diseases, including childhood virus infections. BCG activates monocytes and innate memory NK cells which are crucial for the antiviral immune response. Therefore, strategies to prevent COVID-19 in health workers (HW) should be carried out to prevent them becoming unwell so that they can continue to work during the pandemic. The hypothesis is that BCG will improve the innate immune response and prevent symptomatic infection or COVID-19 severity. The primary objective is to verify the
