Abstract:
Hybrid vehicles are now more common in response to increasing global warming. The hybridization of energy sources and energy storage units enables improving the sustainability, reliability, and robustness of power systems. To reach the objective of zero emissions, a proton exchange membrane hydrogen fuel-cell was utilized as an energy source. The aim of this research was to create an accurate optimal sizing procedure for determining the nominal rating of the necessary sources. We modeled the fuel cell and the battery pack using data from real experimental results to create the generic database. Then, we added data on the mission profile, system constraints, and the minimization target function. The mission profile was then analyzed by the sizing algorithm to determine optional minimum and maximum fuel cell ratings. Analyzing the optional solutions using the vehicle real time energy management system controller resulted in a set of solutions for each available rated fuel cell, and the optimal compatible battery in the revealed band successfully accomplished the route of the driving cycle within the system limitations. Finally, the Pareto curve represented the optimal finding of the sizing procedure. Ultimately, in contrast to previous works that utilize gross manufacturer data in the sizing procedure, the main research contribution and novelty of this research is the very accurate sizing results, which draw on real experimental-based fuel-cell and battery sizing models. Moreover, the actual vehicle real time energy management system controllers were used in the sizing procedure.

Abstract:
Several types of sensors capable of detecting fumes are commercially available. A well-established procedure for sizing particles suspended in liquid solvent is called Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and is based on assessing the diffusion coefficient of the particles from the fluctuations of the scattered light recorded in the scattered light intensity time series. This work highlights the difficulties encountered in an attempt to use DLS for sizing particles suspended in air and the particular, narrow experimental conditions chosen in designing and setting such a DLS experiment. The experimental setup was tested on combustion gases and the results of the preliminary experiment are presented in detail. The results stand as a proof of concept for using DLS in sizing particle in gases and in designing a sensor for fumes detection that can indicate the average size of the particles over an extended range.

Abstract:
Hybridization of sources is spreading worldwide by utilizing renewable sources and storage units as standard parts of every grid. The conjunction of energy source and storage type open the door to reshaping the sustainability and robustness of the mains while improving system parameters such as efficiency and fuel consumption. The solution fits existing networks as well as new ones. The study proposes the creation of an accurate optimal sizing procedure for setting the required rating of each type of source. The first step is to model the storage and energy sources by using real experimental results for creating the generic database. Then, data on the mission profile, system constraints, and the minimization target function are inserted. The mission profile is then analyzed to determine the minimum and maximum energy source rating. Next, the real time energy management system controller is used to find the set of solutions for each available energy source and the optimal compatible storage in the revealed band to fulfil the mission task. A Pareto-curve is then plotted to present the optimal findings of the sizing procedure. Ultimately, the main research contribution is the far more accurate sizing results. A case study shows that relying on the standard method leads to noncompliance of sizing constraints, while the proposed procedure leads to fulfilling the mission successfully. First, by utilizing experimentally based energy and a storage unit. Second, by using the same real time energy management system controller in the sizing procedure.

Abstract:
The main objective of this chapter is to deal with a single item lot sizing problem with fuzzy parameters, which is called the fuzzy single item lot sizing problem (F-SILSP). Since F-SILSP does not meet the crisp deterministic assumption, it cannot be solved by traditional mathematical programming. In this chapter, the possibility approach is chosen to convert the fuzzy model to be an equivalent crisp single item lot sizing problem (EC-SILSP). The equivalent crisp model from this transformation procedure is in the form of mixed integer linear programming (MILP). It can be solved by traditional solver to find an optimal solution for each pre-specified possibility level. A numerical example with both trapezoidal and triangular fuzzy parameters is illustrated to demonstrate that an equivalent crisp model can be used. In addition, the equivalent crisp model is employed in inventory planning in a case study of inventory planning for bituminous coal with trapezoidal fuzzy demand and triangular fuzzy unit price in a power plant of an example petrochemical company (Supreme Petro, India).

Abstract:
Constructed wetlands are recognized as viable potential technology for reducing pollution load and improving quality of water and wastewater. The use of river diversion wetlands is gaining place for improving quality of river and stream water. However, the design criterion for this category of wetlands has not been fully established, and there is a need to optimize existing approach to enhance operational performance. This chapter presents a step-by-step approach for the design of a typical river diversion constructed wetland intended to remove some pollutants and improve river water quality. The approach focused mainly on water quality objective and outlined simple criteria, guidelines, and model equations for the design procedure of a new river diversion constructed wetland. The design of constructed wetlands is generally an iterative process based on empirical equations. Thus, this approach combines simple equations and procedure for estimating the amount of river water to be diverted for treatment so as to assist the designer in sizing the wetland system. The novel approach presented may be useful to wetland experts as some of the procedures presented are not popular in wetland studies. However, this may improve existing river diversion wetlands’ design and development.

Abstract:
The problem of determining the optimal selling price and lot size for an inventory system with non-instantaneous deteriorating item is considered in this chapter. In order to provide general framework, the pricing and lot sizing problem is modeled assuming a general price and time dependent demand function. The model allows for backlogging of demand which is characterized by decreasing function of waiting time. As the problem involves revenue and costs, a natural objective function for the model is profit per period. First, the sub problem in which price is fixed is solved to determine the optimal inventory policy. To broaden the problem, a procedure is developed for obtaining the optimal selling price and order size. To investigate the characteristics of the proposed model, numerical illustrations are presented.

Abstract:
JGA, the acronym for Java Genetic Algorithm, is a computational object-oriented framework for rapid development of evolutionary algorithms for solving complex optimization problems. This chapter describes the JGA framework and illustrates its use on the dynamic inventory lot-sizing problem. Using this problem as benchmark, JGA is compared against three other tools, namely, GAlib, an open C++ implementation; GADS, a commercial MatlabÒ toolbox; and PROC GA, a commercial (yet experimental) SASÒ procedure. JGA has proved to be a flexible and extensible object-oriented framework for the fast development of single (and multi-objective) genetic algorithms by providing a collection of ready-to-use modules (Java classes) that comprise the nucleus of any genetic algorithm. Furthermore, JGA has also been designed to be embedded in larger applications that solve complex business problems.

Abstract:
A procedure for the automated sizing of spatial servo mechanisms is presented. The design performance is measured by means of a work task moving a payload from one point to another within a certain time. The design variables are composed of continuous and discrete parameters with the latter associated with the servo motor and planetary gears making up the servo drive. The costs are identified as the main objective for minimization whereas a number of side constraints related to accuracy, fatigue, vibrations and thermal conditions are presented and formulated mathematically. The two-level design procedure generates design from a motor and gear database that a subsequently subjected to minimization with a view to eliminate any constraint violations. The least costly of the feasible design are considered the optimal.
