Insamlingen av data skedde i form av en webbaserad enkätundersökning med mätinstrumenten Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire, The Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire-2, The Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale och Goal Content for Exercise Questionnaire.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between motivation for exercise, satisfaction of psychological needs and how goal-setting plus a self-determinated motivation profile affect the exercise behavior. The participants were 1100 members (M = 45 years) of a weight-loss organization. Collection of the data was made through a web based questionnaire that included the instruments Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire, The Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire-2, The Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale and Goal Content for Exercise Questionnaire. The results showed that an identified and intrinsic regulated motivation profile along with internal goal-setting had a positive correlation with satisfaction of both the psychological needs and strenuous exercise behavior. Moreover the results showed that internal goals had a positive correlation with a self-determinated motivation profile. Development of an internal motivation profile with internal goal-setting can result in improved exercise behavior and well-being. Knowledge of these findings can improve the global health both on individual and group level.

Full textThe study's objective was to examine if (a) self-determined motivation mediates the relationship between a task-oriented motivational climate and well-being (b) self-determined motivation mediates the relationship between an ego-oriented motivational climate and well- being. The present study is a quantitative cross-sectional design which has taken part of an ongoing research project’s collected data (Ivarsson, et al., in press). The research project used a convenience sample to select the participants, where 731 child- and youth players aged between 10-18 (M=13.7, SD=1.8) participated. The both hypotheses were confirmed by the results that showed a significant indirect relation between a task-oriented motivational climate and well-being as well as between ego-oriented motivational climate and well-being through self-determined motivation. The mediation analysis showed that a task-oriented motivational climate was related to a higher degree of self-determined motivation, which was related to a higher degree of well-being. An ego-oriented motivational climate was related to a lower degree of motivational climate, which was related to a lower degree of well-being. The results illustrate the importance of creating a task-oriented motivational climate in child- and youth sport with the purpose to foster self-determined motivation which further on can increase the probability to experience well-being. Future research should develop intervention studies with the purpose of to a greater extent study causal relationship between the three variables.

Full textBackground: It is common for people to experience difficulty motivating themselves to make a change in behavior towards a healthier lifestyle. It is also common for people who have implemented a behavior change to fall back into their old habits within six months. Interventions that motivate and support people to long-term behavioral change are therefore of great importance in order to improve unhealthy living habits and thereby improve the health of the population. The digital service Hälsocoach online has been developed with the aim of supporting, coaching and motivating people who want to make a change in behavior towards a healthier lifestyle. Interventions that support the user ́s self-determination have shown to contribute to promotion of more long-term lifestyle changes. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to elucidate the clients ́ experience of motivational support for lifestyle change in the digital service Hälsocoach online from a self-determined perspective. Method: The study is of a qualitative method and is based on seven semi-structured interviews with clients who have used Hälsocoach online. The interviews were abductively analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Results: In the result, the parts of Hälsocoach online that the clients experienced had an impact on their motivation to make a lifestyle change are highlighted. The use of Hälsocoach online was in many cases seen as a positive support in strengthened motivation for behavior change, but even those parts of the service that were not experienced as strengthened for the motivation were highlighted by the clients. The analysis of the interviews resulted in five main categories: Sense of participation, Personalized coaching, Relationship with the health coach, Support in the environment and Communication factors. The results that emerged could be linked to the different parts of the self-determination theory, where a clear connection could be seen between satisfaction of the basic needs of autonomy, competence and relatedness and a successful lifestyle change. Conclusion: In many cases, the use of Hälsocoach online was seen as a positive support for strengthened motivation to perform a behavior change and could thus be seen as a useful digital service in health promotion work. The factors highlighted by clients as important for motivation for behavior change could be linked to the basic needs of self-determination theory. The study thus shows that health coaches, by strengthening the basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence and relatedness, can support the clients to an increased self-determination and thereby a stronger motivation for a successful and more long-term behavior change, which in turn can contribute to an improved lifestyle and health of the clients. The increased understanding of the various psychological needs in the motivation process can create the right conditions to being able to offer even more effective and better solutions for promoting healthy behaviors over time.

Full textThe purpose of the study at Swedish football academies was (1) to investigate the relationship between perceived talent development environment, self-determination and general well-being and (2) to study how perceived talent development environment and self-determination predicted general well-being. 117 male football players aged between 14-19 (M=16,61, Sd=1,05) took part of the study. The participants were all members of one out of five elite football academies, and they played either in "pojkallsvenskan" (N=60) or in "juniorallsven-skan" (N=57). Self-Determination Scale (SDS) was used to measure experience of self-determination, General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12) measured perceived general psy-chological health and Talent Development Environment Questionnaire (TDQE) measured how the player’s perceived the talent development environment. The results showed positive statistically significant relationships between the variables perceived talent development envi-ronment, self-determination and general well-being. The results also showed that perceived talent development environment and self-determination could explain 27,5% of the variation in players general well-being. The results were analyzed and discussed in relation to The Model of Effective Talent Development Environments and Self-Determination Theory in ad-dition to previous research. Keywords: Motivation, self-determination, Swedish football academies, Talent Development Environment, well-being.

Full textABSTRACT This thesis concerns itself with the question of how frontline personnel in the retail sector experience self-leadership. Among all the companies in the retail sector, a continuously increasing competitiveness inherently requires companies to find new ways by which to differentiate themselves from their competitors. Nowadays, the service aspect represents one of those ways as frontline personnel knowledge and customer service is argued to be crucial to ensuring customer satisfaction. Moreover, research has shown that the level of service stands in direct, positive correlation to business success. As part of the service aspect, self-leadership is often times used as a management tool implemented in order to create internal motivation as well as workplace wellbeing for company employees. Company management can, with the help of self-leadership tools, allow its personnel to make more independent decisions as such would still be based on and reflect the set company values. Hence, for such self-lead, independent decisions to reflect company values it is important that those values are an indirect reflection of the personnel’s own values. Also, if companies allow their frontline personnel to be involved in decision making processes and simultaneously communicate confidence in the personnel’s decision making capabilities and values, then overall service quality stands to be improved. In order to install a certain sense of confidence in sales roles and customer service capabilities amongst personnel, it is rather necessary for companies to train, continuously educate and motivate their personnel. Ultimately, in order for the self-leadership tool to be truly effective, both correlating values between the company and its personnel and the involvement of frontline personnel in decision making processes must exist simultaneously. However, self-leadership can be exemplified in a variety of ways depending on whether a company has a hierarchical or flat organization. Within a flat organization, for instance, self-leadership can be received and be implemented on a much greater scale. In order to verify and perhaps compliment these arguments, a qualitative method approach, implying interviews with five experts within the fields of self-leadership, communication, sales and retail as well as five respondents from the retail sector, was taken. Put differently, the interviews were performed in an attempt to gain a greater understanding of the meaning and importance of self-leadership within the retail sector. Consequently, this study seeks to provide a wider industry perspective. As a base for discussion, this thesis seeks to answer to the following three problem statements: 1) How do frontline personnel in the retail sector view self-leadership? 2) How is customer care affected by self-leadership? 3) What role does a company in the retail sector play in providing its personnel with the right conditions and tools to implement self-leadership? Finally, the purpose of this thesis is to identify to which degree self-leadership affects customer service in the retail industry. Therefore, a comparison between the information and expert opinions gathered from interviews and the existing theories of academic literature will serve as a base for further discussion. In the end, that information and those arguments will seek to identify both the similarities and differences between how frontline personnel experiences self-leadership and, in turn, to which extent personnel themselves feel they experience the variables of freedom and creativity within companies. This thesis’ conclusions can be summarized into three main points: • Frontline personnel are currently experience some self-leadership and wish for more. • Customer treatment is strongly influenced by self-leadership. • The companies in the retail sector has an important role in the provision of front staff capacity to exercise self-leadership

Full textSwedish high school students are moving less and less and 32% of boys and only 14% of girls reach WHO's recommended dose of 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Studies show that up to 80% of the day is spent sitting still, and today this is linked to many common diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes. This study has investigated the possibility, through product design, to increase the motivation for physical activity during sports.User-centered design and qualitative methods are used to compile empirical data into a unified picture of why high school students do not participate in sports and what is needed to create inner motivation in high school students. The study's theoretical framework also touched on sports medicine and, above all, social psychology within motivation theory and semantics. The study shows that it is of great importance that the students are given space to feel confident in their ability, belonging in the group to feel secure and to be able to decide for themselves their own development. The end concept is a training mat that is divided into eight different training zones. This enables individualized training, invites to collaborative exercises in the group and is level adapted. This study has internal relevance for product designers by contributing insight into how to integrate product design and ACD in pedagogy to increase internal motivation. The study has external relevance as the result can hopefully improve the health of individuals. Otherwise, the consequence may be increased mental and physical ill health in society. The product proposal and the knowledge contribution can thus contribute with insight into how product design can be used to increase students' self-esteem by raising awareness of the factors that can influence their own development towards a healthier life.
