Full textWithin the past 40 years the continuous scaling of planar MOSFETs was key to shrink the devices and to improve their performance. Techniques like mechanical stressing, rapid thermal annealing and in-situ doped epitaxial growing as well as novel materials, such as high-k-gate-oxide in combination with titanium nitride as metal-gate, has been introduced. However, short-channel-effects and increased scattering of electrical proper-ties significantly complicate the scaling of planar transistors. Thus, the planar MOSFETs gradually reached their limits of functionality with the current 28 nm technology node. For that reason, this work focuses on integration of multi-gate transistors based on a 22 nm technology, which show an improved gate control and allow a continuous scaling. Furthermore, the requirements of a stable and cost-efficient process as decisive condition for mass fabrication were always taken into account. The simulations of the tri-gate transistors present the first step toward a multi-gate technology. The process sequence differs from the planar one solely by a fin formation and offers the possibility of a hybrid 22 nm process. Also, the impact of crystal orientation, mechanical stress and superposition of electrical fields on the efficiency of multi-gate structures were analyzed for the tri-gate transistors. In a second step transistors with fully depleted channel regions were studied. Due to low channel doping they are showing a volume inversion, a higher carrier mobility and a lower sensitivity to random doping fluctuations, which are essential criteria for powerful multi-gate transistors. Reviewed structure variants include planar ultra-thin-body-SOI-MOSFETs, classic FinFETs with a tall, narrow fins and vertical nanowire transistors. Then advantages and disadvantages of the considered transistor structures have been observed for a medium to long term industrial use. For this purpose, an analysis of statistical fluctuations and the scaling-down to 14 nm technology was carried out. A summary of all results and an outlook to the transfer of concepts into mass fabrication complete this work

Full textOppgaven tar for seg hvordan det er mulig å lage et cluster basert på Derby som støtter et høyt volum av lesetransaksjoner. Skriving er ikke i fokus ytelsesmessig, men er mulig gjennom Derbys støtte for XA. Det faktum at XA er et verktøy for å gjennomføre 2-fase commit, ikke replisering, gjør at skriving kun er mulig for administrator. Hovedsakelig grunnet manglende sekvensering av transaksjoner, samt mangel på automatisk opprydning etter feilede transaksjoner. Testing viser at skaleringsgraden for et slikt system er på 100%. Det er ingen sammenkobling mellom servernoder, og dermed ingen øvre grense for antall noder. Det at det ikke er noen sammenkobling mellom servernoder gjør at disse kan spres geografisk. Sammen med en fail-over mekanisme i klienten kan dette systemet oppnå høy tilgjengelighet ved lesing.

Full textFör att överleva i dagens mycket konkurrensutsatta och snabbt föränderliga miljö måste stora företag ständigt utveckla sig själva och deras värdeerbjudande. Ett vanligt sätt att hantera detta är att etablera innovationsavdelningar med ansvar att hantera företagets innovativa erbjudanden. Trots detta är det utmanande att generera en inverkan från dessa nya affärsinitiativ där flera osäkerhetsfaktorer härrör från den fas där initiativen skalas, som i teori och praktik benämns som skalningsfasen. Utmaningarna inom denna fas har också uppmärksammats av Deloitte Sverige som har upplevt en ökad av efterfrågan av stöd inom ramen för skalning av innovation. Skalningsfasen anses vara det största hindret för nya affärsinitiativ på grund av dess oförutsägbarhet. Det identifieras därmed som ett besvärligt och strategiskt utmanande område inom företagsinnovation i behov av ytterligare efterforskning. Syftet med denna avhandling var följaktligen att undersöka och redogöra för de bakomliggande svårigheterna som orsakar att skalningen brister samt vilka framgångsfaktorer som kan förhindra att det sker. Praktiska branschinsikter och erfarenheter har samlats in genom semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer med sju stora företag. Samtliga sju företag intervjuades individuellt vid två separata tillfällen och resultaten från den första intervjuomgången konstruerade två forskningsfrågor som vägledde avhandlingen; (1) Vilka är de viktigaste principerna som bör tillämpas för att skapa de bästa förutsättningarna för stora företag genom hela skalningsprocessen? och (2) Hur kan indikatorer användas under hela skalningsprocessen för att validera dess framsteg? Resultaten från båda intervjuomgångarna kombinerades med litteraturstudierna och tillsammans indikerade de fem svårigheter och korrelerande framgångsfaktorer för stora företags skalning av nya affärsinitiativ. Svårigheterna och framgångsfaktorerna delades i sin tur upp i två framträdande teman. Det första temat inkluderar det förberedande arbetet i processen som leder fram till ett beslut om skalning, kallat; förutsättningar för skalning. Det andra temat täcker hur företag kan validera initiativets framsteg under skalning, kallat; validering av skalningsframsteg. För att intuitivt kommunicera svårigheterna, framgångsfaktorerna och motsvarande rekommendationerna presenteras de i form av ramverket: Corporate Innovation Scaling -Difficulties and Success Factors. Innehållet i ramverket syftar till att stödja ivinnovationsavdelningarna genom hela deras innovationsprocess och i slutändan hjälpa till att skala nya affärsinitiativ.

Resultatet har blivit att enkomplett fungerande prototyp på en mätenhet med lovande egenskaper kunnat tas fram.

Full textThe present work deals with the simulation and the prediction of the effective material behavior of the high performance composite textile reinforced concrete (TRC) subjected to tension. Based on a hierarchical material model within a multi scale approach the load bearing mechanisms of TRC are modeled on three structural scales. Therewith, the mechanical parameters characterizing the composite material can be deduced indirectly by experimentally determined force displacement relations obtained from roving pullout tests. These parameters cannot be obtained by contemporary measuring techniques directly. A micro-meso-macro-prediction model (MMM-PM) for TRC is developed, predicting the macroscopic material behavior by means of simulations of the microscopic and the mesoscopic material behavior. The basis is the qualitative and quantitative identification of the bond properties of the roving-matrix system. The partial impregnation of the rovings and the corresponding varying bond qualities are identified to characterize the bond behavior of rovings in a fine-grained concrete matrix. The huge variety of roving cross-sections is approximated by superellipses on the meso scale. The macroscopic behavior of TRC subjected to tension including multiple cracking of the matrix material is correctly predicted on the basis of the micro- and meso-mechanical models. The calibration and verification of the MMM-PM is performed by simulations of roving pullout tests, whereas a first validation is carried out by a comparison of the numerical predictions with the experimental data from tensile tests. The MMM-PM for TRC is applied to tensile tests of structural members made of TRC. Furthermore, a steel-reinforced concrete plate strengthened by a TRC layer is accurately simulated yielding the macroscopic deflection of the plate, the mesoscopic stress state of the roving and the microscopic stresses of the filaments

Full textThis work includes experimental and theoretical investigations of second-harmonic generation (SHG) at metallic nanoparticles. SHG means that a nanoparticle that is excited at the frequency omega emits radiation at the frequency 2*omega. SHG does not only occur in materials with noncentrosymmetric structure, but also on metal surfaces. Hence, SHG can be combined well with plasmonic field enhancement at metallic nanoantennae. SHG is investigated experimentally at different nanostructures such as triangle-like, rod-like and especially cone-like nanoparticles. With their sharp tips these structures show a much stronger SHG signal than spherical nanoparticles. Especially the cones are interesting: Excited with a focused radially polarized beam, for different cone sizes and in different surrounding media either the signal from the tip or the signal from the bottom edge dominates. The measurement results from the cones are underpinned by theoretical investigations. In these calculations the plasmonic field enhancements and the resulting SHG are modeled for a cone with different parameters. The single-cone results are also compared with the cases of a spherical or rod-shaped particle. A further subject of the theoretical investigations is the superposition of the SHG radiation from a number of emitting nanoparticles to a field maximum. For that, a circular arrangement of 8 nanorods or nanocones is excited by a radially polarized beam. The superposition of the second-harmonic radiation fields yields a field maximum in the space between the emitters. A tilt of the exciting beam can move this focus in space. The latter item is of special interest concerning localised photochemical reactions induced by the second-harmonic light from nanoparticles. In the near field of these nanoantennae, a strong localisation of the reaction on regions smaller than 100 nm would be possible by using chemical substances being transparent at omega, but photoreactive at 2*omega. With photoresists and polymer matrices, experiments are carried out to investigate whether SHG light can trigger such reactions at all, or if these photochemical reactions are triggered predominantly by direct two-photon absorption of the exciting light. The results show that the two-photon absorption is the dominant process. Yet, through two-photon absorption in the near field of particles, the localisation of the reaction is still similar

Full textAim: To investigate if absence of goals for sedation affect the level of sedation and to map out the depth of sedation, assessed according to the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS-scale) on intubated patients at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Norrlands Universitetssjukhus (NUS). Background: The importance of adequate sedation is something that has been raised to awareness the last years and the trend within intensive care has gone from extensive use of sedatives with neuromuscular blocking agents to a more lightly sedative strategy. Over-sedation leads to different kinds of complications such as prolonged mechanical ventilation and hospital stay and also increases mortality rates. Under-sedation increases the risk for stress and pain. An adequate level of sedation is defined as when the patient is calm and comfortable yet easy to arouse from sleep. To obtain the appropriate level of sedation, and thereby avoiding the negative effects of both over- and under-sedation, sedation scales are an important tool. Design: Data was collected using medical records. A quantitative approach with retrospective design was performed. Method: From january 1st to june 30th 2015 a totalt of 422 patients were admitted to the ICU, NUS. After auditing the medical reccords according to the inclusion- and exklusionkriterias 46 patients were included in the study. The medical records were audited regarding sedation goals and sedation scores according to the RASS scale. All collected patients’ characteristics, RASS goals and levels were typed in to the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 23,0). Results: The 46 patients in the study were sedated and intubated a totalt of 216 days. Sedation goals were absent 47% of those days. An absence of sedation goals did not affect the depth of sedation, there were no significant difference between patients with and without sedation goals. In totalt 1048 sedation scores as measured by the RASS scale were collected with the purpose of maping out the sedation depth. The mean for each patient per every 24 hours were calculated and compiled. The sedation scores were lower than -3 the first four days, thereafter the scores changed towards a less heavy sedation. Conclusion: By identifying underlying factors for pain and anxiety, the ICU nurse can reduce the many negative consequences of inadequate sedation. It was a positive finding that the depth of sedation changed over time towards a, according to previous studies, more appropriate level of sedation. The results indicate that there is a need for further studies to investigate what affect the levels of sedation and to assess how appropriate patients are sedated. It would be of interest to examine this on a larger group of patients and for a longer period of time.

Full textPain is a subjective experience. People tolerate and handle pain in different ways; the individual experiences are not compatible by themselves. The responsibility of the nurse is to treat and prevent states of pain. The VAS-scale is an evaluative scale of pain, which presents important knowledge of how the patient experiences pain, hence helps the nurse in the daily pursuit of patients well-being. The aim of this qualitative interview-study is to shed light upon the attitude of the nurses regarding this evaluative scale, and the usage thereof. Eleven nurses, all employed at a hospital in the South of Sweden, participated in the study. The result was processed and analysed with means of a manifest content analysis, where two main categories and seven subcategories were created. The results were sorted under the two main categories: (a) nurses attitude toward the VAS-scale, and (b) nurses application of the VAS-scale. The results present both positive and negative aspects of the VAS-scale. The scale is not considered to sufficiently cover a complete evaluation of the pain, but is in need of complementary observations and physiological examinations to receive a complete picture of the pain experience of the patient. The instrument is regarded to have flaws but also to be the best available tool at present.

Full textIn 1997 began a unique project, the ABIS study (All Babies in Southeast Sweden) at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Linköping (Linköping University). Of all babies born during the period 1 October 1997-1 October 1999 in the counties Blekinge, Småland, Öland and Östergötland have about 17 000 been followed-up at regular intervals over the years: at birth, after one-year, after 2-3 years, after 5-6 years and after eight years. Children/families have for each moment in the study submitted biological samples and responded to questionnaires. The questionnaires contain questions of varying types; this paper takes into account the socio-demographic variables and the variables that were used to "measure" stress with the parents and to some extent with the children. Through the years the number of participants declined sharply from 16 051 filling out the first questionnaire to 4030 at the eight-year follow-up. With this essay we will investigate if the nonresponse group has specific characteristics and if the cause of the nonresponse can be explained. As a basis we work with the data recorded by the questionnaires, with starting point at the birth in which all who responded are assumed to be the population and then the ones who leave the study into the next follow-ups constitute the nonresponse group. In order to tackle the problem, multidimensional scaling, cluster analysis, and logistic regression have been used. None of the methods however made it possible distinguish observations in two different groups that correspond with the groups of respondents and dropouts. Therefore, we cannot describe or explain the nonresponse from the variables that have been chosen, i.e. socio-demographic and stress variables.

Full textIn designing software applications, a chosen structure can often accentuate desired properties. To choose the correct architecture, one must often do considerations and sometimes even compromises, about the intended characteristics of the application. In that stage it is often well motivated to have a clear picture about which attributes the application shall possess. Over time, one of the most important attributes is scalability. The knowledge about the scalability of different architectures could play a crucial part in the design phase, determining how an application is scaled in the future. In recent years Microservice Architecture has been a popular way of building software and its high scalability is said to be a contributing factor. This work has the purpose of examine the scalability of microservice architecture relative to the monolithic architecture and how this quality attribute is affected after a transformation is done from a monolith to a microservice system. This work is based on an existing module from an open source E-commerce platform. The module was first transformed into a working microservice, then both architectures was horizontally scaled. Using suitable tools such as Docker, the result of this work shows that horizontal scalability exists in a high degree within the microservice architecture and continues being high there after. Scaling of microservices can be done with higher precision of what are to be changed. This stands in relation to the monolithic approach where scaling is limited to the performance of the environment where the software application is running. The transformation to a microservice architecture resulted in an increase of scalability. The scaling method was more fined-grained and isolated to the selected module. In contrast, individual horizontal scaling of the monolithic module was required to be done virtually with background processes. This concluded in an indirect scaling of the whole structure of the monolith. Besides horizontal scalability, the evaluation is focused on the system quality attributes of simplicity, autonomy and modularity.

Full textAmputation is the partial or entire removal of a body extremity or other part of a body. Many functions of mobility are deficient after leg amputation. Main goal of the thesis is to assess responsiveness of the Barthel index, Locomotor capability index – 5 and Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale for patients after leg amputation. The tasks of the thesis are, first, to evaluate condition of the patients after femoral amputation applying the Barthel index, Locomotor capability index – 5 and Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale before and after 2nd and 3rd stages of rehabilitation; second, calculate correlation between the functional condition and balance confidence assessment scales; third, evaluate responsiveness of the functional condition and balance confidence assessment scales. Research methods. The research was conducted at the Valakupiu Rehabilitation Center. The sampling of the research included 19 patients after femoral amputation (mean age 70, range 51 – 79, 15 men and 4 women) during their prosthetic rehabilitation. The Barthel index, Locomotor capability index – 5 and Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale were assessed in the research. Responsiveness of the scales was evaluated and correlation between them has been calculated. Microsoft Excel XP and software package STATISTICA 6.0 were used for data analysis. psykologi. Sambandet mellan dem har varit oklart delvis pga
otydlighet och oenighet gällande impulsivitetsbegreppet. På senare tid
har nya teoretiska modeller av impulsivitet som ett mångfasetterat
konstrukt utvecklats. Syftet med denna studie var dels att undersöka
psykometriska egenskaper hos en svensk översättning av UPPSskalan,
dels att undersöka sambandet mellan upplevd kontroll och
impulsivitet med hjälp av den nya UPPS-modellen. Datainsamling
genomfördes med självskattningsskalor. Deltagare var dels studenter
(n=66) och dels rättpsykiatriska/frivårdsklienter (n=12). Resultaten
visade ett signifikant, medelstort och delvis komplext samband mellan
upplevelser av kontroll och impulsiviteter. Gällande UPPS-modellen
gav resultat från faktoranalysen stöd för den förväntade underliggande
strukturen. I ljuset av tidigare forskning fanns en delvis överraskande
skillnad mellan student- och patientgrupper på två av fyra delskalor.
