Full textThe main goal of the study was to examine the psychological factors of the connection between pain intensity and physical performance in rehabilitation patients. With this study had we explored changes in patients’ pain intensity and physical activity over time, evaluated their kinesiophobia level and pain coping strategies they were using in rehabilitation. Moreover we were trying to find out the relations among those variables. We had hypothesized there is a connection between pain intensity and physical performance in patients after hip replacement. Also we expected that pain coping strategies and kinesiophobia would interfere with pain intensity patients were experiencing and their physical activity in rehabilitation. The survey began after given permission to execute the research. The permission was given by administration of Vilnius Valakupiai rehabilitation center, Vilnius center of gerontology and rehabilitation, and sanatorium Pusyno kelias. The study was based on 41 patients in rehabilitation after hip replacement, comprising a total of 10 (24,4%) men and 31 (75,6%) women, age between 34–78 years (average age 62,9 years). Patients were investigated during their whole treatment period. Pain intensity and physical activity diaries were used to accomplish the research. The Coping Strategies Questionaire (Rosental, Keefe, 1983) and Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (Miller et al., 1991) were also applied in this investigation. As it was needed to evaluate the physical... [to full text]

Full textThe aim of research: to assess the association of pain catastrophizing and fear of movement with knee joint function after knee joint surgery during the second stage of rehabilitation. The tasks of research: 1. To assess the level of pain catastrophizing and fear of movement before and after rehabilitation. 2. To assess body function and activities limitations before and after rehabilitation. 3. To assess the association of pain catastrophizing with knee joint function recovery. 4. To assess the association of fear of movement with knee joint function recovery. 5. To assess physical therapists attitudes toward psychological factors assessment in physical therapist practise. The methods of the research: this research focuses on two studies. The aim of the first study – to assess the association of pain catastrophizing and fear of movement with knee joint function after knee joint surgery during the second stage of rehabilitation. The study involved 41 participants, 21 of them after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and 19 after meniscus surgery. Before and after rehabilitation participant‘s level of pain catastrophizing and fear of movement, pain intensity, range of motion, muscle strenght and subjective knee joint function were assessed. The aim of the second study – to assess physical therapists attitudes toward psychological factors assessment. The anonymous survey of physical therapists attitudes was conducted. The study involved 98 physical therapists, which are... [to full text]

Full textThe object: Different muscle electrical stimulation methods for knee joint range of motion, muscle strength and pain after anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery. The aim of the research: to determine the effectiveness of physical therapy and different muscles electrical stimulation methods for knee joint range of motion, muscle strength and pain after anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery. The task of the research: 1. To evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy and passive muscle electrical stimulation for knee joint range of motion, muscle strength and pain. 2. To evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy and active muscle electrical stimulation for knee joint range of motion, muscle strength and pain. 3. Compare the effectiveness of physical therapy and different muscle electrical stimulation methods for the range of motion of the knee joint, muscle strength and pain, between control and experimental groups. Hypothesis: we believe that physical therapy and active muscle electrical stimulation will increase thigh muscle strength, the range of motion of the knee and reduce pain in the knee while walking, compared with a passive muscle electrical stimulation in patients after anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery. Conclusions: 1. Patients who apply physical therapy and passive muscle electrical stimulation, statistically significantly increased (p<0,05) the flexion and extention of the knee, strenght of the muscles that bend...
