This work focused on the application to growth studies of the assay for pyridinium crosslinks in urine. The study showed the existence of a nyctohermeral rhythm of crosslink excretion in children, with a peak during the night or early in the morning, and pointed out between-day fluctuations of excretion (17% for Pyd and 19% for Dpd). The study also showed that urinary crosslinks were significantly related to anthropometric estimates of skeletal mass and that such estimates should be used to account for size differences between individuals. Assessments of skeletal muscle functional capacity or bilateral muscular asymmetry often necessitate maximal contractile effort, which exacerbates muscle fatigue or injury. Tensiomyography (TMG) has been investigated in laboratory settings, as a means to assess muscle contractile function following fatigue; however observations have not been contextualised by concurrent physiological measures. TMG has more sparingly been applied in the field, with elite athletes. Introduction. Fetal short femur is defined by a femur length below the 5th percentile or -2 DS for the gestational age. The finding of a short femur represents a diagnostic dilemma for the various differential diagnosis. It may be associated with skeletal dysplasia, aneuploidies or genetic syndromes.
