This paper overviews the study of skewΘ-λ-constacyclic codes over finite fields and finite commutative chain rings. The structure of skewΘ-λ-constacyclic codes and their duals are provided. Among other results, we also consider the Euclidean and Hermitian dual codes of skewΘ-cyclic and skewΘ-negacyclic codes over finite chain rings in general and overFpm+uFpmin particular. Moreover, general decoding procedure for decoding skew BCH codes with designed distance and an algorithm for decoding skew BCH codes are discussed.

GC skew is a phenomenon observed in many bacterial genomes, wherein the two replication strands of the same chromosome contain different proportions of guanine and cytosine nucleotides. Here we demonstrate that this phenomenon, which was first discovered in the mid-1990s, can be used today as an analysis tool for the 15,000+ complete bacterial genomes in NCBI’s Refseq library. In order to analyze all 15,000+ genomes, we introduce a new method, SkewIT (Skew Index Test), that calculates a single metric representing the degree of GC skew for a genome. Using this metric, we demonstrate how GC skew

Data from some research fields tend to exhibit a positive skew. For example, in experimental psychology, reaction times (RTs) are characterised as being positively skewed. However, it is not unlikely that RTs can take a normal or, even, a negative shape. While the Ex-Gaussian distribution is suitable to model positively skewed data, it cannot cope with negatively skewed data. This manuscript proposes a distribution that can deal with both negative and positive skews: the exponential-centred skew-normal (ECSN) distribution. We incorporate this behavior under a novel Bayesian approach for dynamic modeling of proportionate age–specific fertility rates via skewed processes. The model assumes a skew–normal distribution for the age at the moment of childbirth, while allowing the location and the skewness parameters to evolve in time via Gaussian processes priors. Posterior inference is performed via Monte Carlo methods, leveraging results on unified skew–normal distributions. The proposed approach is illustrated

In particular occasional unidirectional transients will give a non-zero skew and kurtosis, and a normalized bispectrum with significant structure. These methods appear to have value for the detection of the type of corrosion occurring from electrochemical noise data, although further work is needed to clarify their significance. Abstract:
This report provides two sets of equations for estimating peak discharge quantiles at annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs) of 0.50, 0.20, 0.10, 0.04, 0.02, 0.01, 0.005, and 0.002 (recurrence intervals of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, and 500 years, respectively) for watersheds in Illinois based on annual maximum peak discharge data from 117 watersheds in and near northeastern Illinois. One set of equations was developed through a temporal analysis with a two-step least squares-quantile regression technique that measures the average effect of changes in the urbanization of the watersheds used i

Abstract:
Many pipelines utilize system chromatographs at delivery locations. The energy content of the gas delivered can have a significant time skew from the chromatograph. Therefore, the energy content of the gas at a delivery point may differ significantly from its associated system chromatograph. On lean burn engines with tight emission controls, changes in the energy content of the fuel gas can significantly alter the amount of air required to maintain emissions compliance. A reliable, low cost, and fast responding energy meter is desired for both scenarios described. Four Energy Meters are evalua

Abstract:
Statistical distributions of urban noise levels are influenced by many complex phenomena, including spatial and temporal variations in the source level, multisource mixtures, propagation losses, and random fading from multipath reflections. This article provides a broad perspective on the varying impacts of these phenomena. Distributions incorporating random fading and averaging (e.g., gamma and noncentral Erlang) tend to be negatively skewed on logarithmic (decibel) axes but can be positively skewed if the fading process is strongly modulated by source power variations (e.g., compound gamma).
