Despite global attention to worker rights violations experienced by temporary migrants, we lack a clear evidence base to understand the extent and nature of these abuses. This article presents findings from a pilot of a Migrant Worker Rights Database. This pilot measures rights abuses of former Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) entrants to Australia from 1996 to 2016. This visa was the key formal temporary visa into Australia over this period. This article examines the complexity of the debate around the temporary worker visa known as the H-1B program for highly skilled foreign nationals. Abstract:
There have been contradictory trends in migration policies in advanced countries since the 1990s: states have actively recruited desirable immigrants while they continued to deter and exclude unwanted migrants. The case of Japanese state not only represents this trend, but also shows a profoundly paradoxical case in the sense that it officially negated incorporation of “immigrants” consistently though it has built up multiple channels of transnational labor supply for their urgent needs. It is particularly so because Japan has maintained the divergent policies in the middle of well-known demog

Executive Summary This article examines the ability of immigrants to integrate and to become full Americans. Naturalization has long been recognized as a fundamental step in that process and one that contributes to the nation’s strength, cohesion, and well-being. To illustrate the continued salience of citizenship, the article compares selected characteristics of native-born citizens, naturalized citizens, legal noncitizens (most of them lawful permanent residents [LPRs]), and undocumented residents. It finds that the integration, success, and contributions of immigrants increase as they advan

The demographic crisis in Ukraine, marked by a sharp population decline accelerated by irreversible war-related losses, as well as mass emigration of Ukrainian citizens, may result in a labor shortage – particularly of highly skilled workers – which will hinder the country’s recovery and development. One way to overcome the labor shortage is to attract labor migrants from abroad. This will occur amid intense global competition for human resources, where Ukraine’s position as a destination country remains weak. The number of foreigners arriving in the country for employment has never been signi

Research Purpose: Chinese female immigrants, influenced by traditional Confucian familism, are often found to
