Abstract The role of neutrophils as key players in the regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses is increasingly being recognized. We report that human neutrophils establish a network with both natural killer (NK) cells and 6-sulfo LacNAc+ dendritic cells (slanDCs), which ultimately serves to up-regulate NK-derived interferonγ (IFNγ). This network involves direct reciprocal interactions and positive amplification loops mediated by cell-derived cytokines. Accordingly, we show that after lipopolysaccharide + interleukin-2 (IL-2) or IL-15/IL-18 stimulation, neutrophils directly interact

The pathogenesis of the pruritus associated with chronic kidney disease-(CKD-aP) is not completely understood. Endocrine, metabolic, neuropathic, and inflammatory disorders were suspected to be the origin of CKD-aP. Based on the hypothesis which suggests that deregulated systemic inflammation may play a crucial role in CKD-a, we investigated the potential relation of an inflammatory monocyte subset (slanDCs) with CKD-aP. Itch questionnaire, visual analogue scale (VAS)-scoring, and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DQLI) were applied for the characterization of itch sensation. VAS-scoring was re-

Abstract Abstract 3720 Background: Dendritic cells (DCs) are professional antigen-presenting cells which display an extraordinary capacity to induce, sustain and regulate T cell responses. Recently, 6-sulfo LacNAc+ (slan) DCs (formerly termed M-DC8+ DCs) have been described as a major subpopulation of proinflammatory human blood DCs which are principal producers of tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-12. In addition, it has been demonstrated that slanDCs efficiently induce antigen-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells and direct the polarization of naïve CD4+ T lymphocytes into Th1 cells. In

Abstract Donor dendritic cells (DCs) play a pivotal role in the induction of immunity and tolerance after peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT). Treatment of healthy donors with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) increases the numbers of tolerogenic DCs and T cells among mobilized blood leukocytes in the graft. SlanDCs (6-sulfo LacNAc+ DCs), a major source of IL-12 and TNF-α in blood, have not been studied in this respect. Here, we demonstrate that slanDCs (14.9 × 106/L to 64.0 × 106/L) are efficiently mobilized by G-CSF and retain their capacity to produce IL-12 and TN

Slander and sedition represented pervasive and dangerous forces in the early modern period. Accordingly, they were subject to laws governing language and methods of censorship and repression. Academic interest in Elizabethan slander and sedition has long been divided into studies which focus on the power relations which underpin slanderous literary texts, the ways in which institutions of authority defined and sought to suppress transgressive material, or the role which slander played in the religious invective which blossomed during the late sixteenth century. Abstract:
Slang’s future is interwoven with our new connected, digitized world. ‘The future of slang’ asks if we are, any longer, able safely to talk of ‘slang’ as a discrete language group, or are the varieties of non-standard language to become subject to the promotion of niche interests, in this case forms of speech, that the digital world encourages? It also considers whether the nature and content of slang, or slangs, will change. The increasing volume of ‘girl talk’ on social media, for example, flouts many of slang’s male conventions. Of slang’s continuing existence, there is no doubt, but the question that remains is what, now, makes up ‘slang’?
