This paper revolves around the idea of the infra-thin, a concept coined by Duchamp, which describes paradoxes and/or phenomena that are not easily defined with words but instead sensed. The infra-thin is illustrated throughout the paper by discussions revolving around scars, bruises, birthmarks, dust, fog, lint, and other similar "things" that are, in some definition of the term, objects. The afore listed entities are used as examples: 1. This thesis focuses on the design, development, and exploratory analysis of a human sleep data repository. We have successfully collected comprehensive data for 1,046 sleep disorder patients and created a Terabyte-scale database system to handle it. The data for each patient was collected from the patient's medical records, and from the patient's allnight sleep study (for a total of about 0.6 Gigabytes per patient). Data collected from the patient's medical record contain more than 70 attributes, including demographic data, smoking, drinking, and exercise habits, depression and daytime sleepin

Abstract:
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a common disorder involving repeated cessations of breathing due to airway collapse, causing disruption of sleep cycles. The condition is under-diagnosed and the side effects are many and varied. Currently, the ‘gold standard’ diagnostic tool for OSA is a polysomnogram (PSG) which is carried out overnight in a hospital using multiple sensors. A PSG is expensive to set-up, run and analyse, and some subjects experience different sleep patterns due to the artificial conditions of the sleep laboratory. The aim of this thesis was to find a parsimonious and easy-to-
