Honardoust, Dariush. "The role of small leucine-rich proteoglycans in non-scarring human oral mucosal wound healing." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/2836.

Abstract:
Small leucine-rich proteoglycans (SLRPs) decorin, biglycan, fibromodulin and lumican are extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules that regulate collagen fibrilogenesis, cell functions and activity of transforming growth factor-P (TGF-ß). Thus, SLRPs may play critical roles in wound healing. In contrast to dermal wounds, gingival wounds regenerate with minimal scaring. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in this processes are not known. The aim of this study was to analyze the abundance of SLRPs, TGF-ß and Endo180, the major collagen endocytosis receptor in fibroblasts, in norma

Osteomodulin (OMD) and Proline/arginine-rich and Leucine-rich Repeat protein (PRELP) belong to the small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycan (SLRP) family and as extracellular matrix components have the ability to influence various cellular functions, including cell growth, migration and proliferation, while their mutation or aberrant expression can cause developmental disorders and cancer. This thesis extends previous work in further understanding the roles of OMD and PRELP in cancer and also during mouse development. In the current project OMD and PRELP are overexpressed in a bladder cancer cel

Abstract:

Abstract:
There has been a longstanding research interest in understanding the exact mechanisms underlying the correct development of the eye, with the goal of treating eye disease and blindness. While there have been enormous advances in the field of regenerative medicine, there is still some way to go before these advances can be translated into clinical applications. Very little is currently known about the regulatory mechanisms controlling the very early stages of eye development. While the genes, which regulate eye field development have been well characterised, their induction and mechanism of act

Abstract:
博士
國立臺灣大學
解剖學暨生物細胞學研究所
98
Keratocan and lumican, belong to the family of small leucine-rich proteoglycans (SLRPs), are the main extracellular matrix proteins of the corneal stroma. Both play a pivotal role in maintaining corneal transparency and function during development. The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is an ideal vertebrate animal model to be applied to characterize and molecular analysis the keratocan and lumican genes. At first, we isolated and characterized the zebrafish keratocan (zKera) gene. Human keratocan sequence was used to search zebrafish homologues. The zKera full-leng
