Abstract:
India being a democratic and republic country, has witnessed the biggest indirect tax reform after much exploration, GST bill roll out on 1 April 2017. The concept of this reform is for a unified country-wide tax reform system. Enterprises particularly SMEs are caught in a state of instability. Several taxes such s excise, service tax etc., have been subsumed with a single tax structure. it is the responsibilities of both centre and state government to shoulder the important responsibility to cater the needs of the people and the nation as a whole. The main basis of income to the government is through levy of taxes. To meet the so called socio-economic needs and economic growth, taxes are considered as a main source of revenue for the government. As per Wikipedia “A tax is a mandatory financial charge or some other type of levy imposed upon tax payer by the government in order to fund various public expenditure” it is said that tax payment is mandatory, failure to pay such taxes will be punishable under the law. The Indian tax system is classified as direct and indirect tax. The indirect taxes are levied on purchase, sale, and manufacture of goods and provision of service. The indirect tax on goods and services increases its price, this can lead to inflationary trend. Contribution of indirect taxes to total tax revenue is more than 50% in India, therefore, indirect tax is considered as a major source of tax revenue for the government, which in turn is one of source for GDP growth. Though indirect tax is a major source of revenue, it had lot of hassles. To overcome the major issues of indirect tax system the government of India subsumed most of the indirect tax which in turn gave birth to the concept called Goods and Service Tax.

Abstract:
Small Scale Industries (SSI) consist entrepreneurs who all are engaged in production, manufacturing or service at micro level. Small industries have been playing a major role in India's economic and social development in the post-independence era. Small scale industries are fundamental to a developing economy with its effective, efficient, flexible and innovative entrepreneurial spirit. SSI units across the world have been approved on the basis of promoters of economic growth and indicative of promoting equitable development. SSI's contribution to the Indian economy in terms of job creation opportunities, reducing regional imbalances, promoting inter-regional linkages, increasing exports and promoting equal economic growth potential has been quite amazing. The sector ranges from traditional to high technology through over 6000 products, comprising over 36 million units across the country, employing over 80 million individuals. SSI helps in the growth of industrial development of the country. This paper attempts to discuss the role of small scale industries in developing the economy and explores various problems faced by it.

Abstract:
There is no dearth of arguments in favor of promoting small and medium-scale industries in the process of national economic development. In a classic textbook on small and medium industries in developing countries up to ten areas were listed in which these industries could contribute positively to national economic development. These areas included, for example, the development of entrepreneurs and managers, the formation of capital assets, the saving of capital, the creation of employment and the geographical spread of industrial development. Another study asserted that the promotion of small and medium industries was justified because they served two major development objectives: the social objectives of stimulation of indigenous entrepreneurship, transformation of traditional industry, and creation of employment; and the economic objectives of dispersal of industry, diversification of industrial structure and increased utilization of resources…

Abstract:
This study assessed the structural characteristics of industries and their influence in the decision to utilize strategic alliance by industries. A survey research design and a questionnaire survey of 309 industries were used in the study while percentages and tables were used to analyse the data and show results. Based on the structural characteristics of the surveyed industries, two types of industries were found in the study. These are small scale industries with 5 - 49 workers and medium scale industries with 50 - 199 workers. The result also indicated that 68% of the surveyed industries were small scale industries while 32% were medium scale industries. In area of strategic alliance decisions, the study discovered that strategic alliances were utilized by industries of all sizes. Consequently, this paper has shown that strategic alliance plays an essential role in the production activities of small-scale industries. The paper suggests that industrial policies of government should be targeted at encouraging the potentials of small and medium scale industries.

Abstract:
This study focuses on the problems and prospects of small scale industries in Kakuri, Kaduna south. The aim was achieved through the following specific objectives; identify the types of small scale industries, examine the problems of small scale industries and analyse the impact of small scale industries on the economic development of Kakuri industrial area. Data were collected through oral interviews and structural questionnaire administered to randomly sampled respondents. The study identified the major problems of small scale industries (SMIs) that hamper the growth of SMIs which includes; inadequate finance, shortage/ change in price of raw materials, poor infrastructures, etc. Based on the findings the study recommends that government should provide soft loans to small scale industries, adequate infrastructural facilities such as reliable power supply and roads. Government should also empower youth through training and financial assistance as a start-up capital.

Abstract:
Until the late 1960s, when the issue of perceived massive and rising unemployment came to the fore, the promotion of small and medium-scale industries had not become a major concern of development policy. Since then, because of the employment generation potential of small and medium-scale industries, more and more governments in the developing countries have adopted policies and measures for the promotion of these industries. In any developing country, most manufacturing activities take place in small and medium industries and these account for an overwhelming proportion of the manufacturing establishments in the country. Available data do not suggest that the importance of small and medium industries declines as the levels of development rise. In fact, since the mid-1970s, small and medium industries may have made a comeback in the developed countries, due to, among other things, the shortening of the product life cycle and the need for flexible responses to changes in currency exchange rates, product markets and technological development. This article attempts to describe the experience of Indonesia in the promotion of small and medium industries for development. In doing so, however, it first briefly examines the general features of small and medium-scale industries and the problems they face.

Abstract:
Abstract An Electro Static Precipitator is a filtration device that removes airborne particles like dust and ash from polluted air using principles of induced electric charges. While electrostatic precipitators are used in all major large scale industries, their use in small scale industries is limited. This is largely because small-scale manufacturers have the lack of awareness and the unavailability of equipment for pollution control in small scale industrial standards. This paper is intended to design and construct a scaled down and economized Electrostatic Precipitator which is controlled by a smoke detector circuit. This can be installed and utilized in small scale industries as an air pollution control unit. Design procedures of a scaled down precipitator chamber with a high voltage power supply and smoke detector circuit are presented in this article. These procedures are well illustrated in a stepwise manner and contain several statistical data and expressions required for the construction of the devices. A comparison of various topologies of various units of ESPs is made and the most appropriate selection for the scaled down model is proposed.

Abstract:
The future of the industrial development of this nation depends to a large extent on the growth and development of the potentials of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs). Small scale industries play a considerable role in the employment of manpower and productivity, distribution of income across the regions through increased investments and profits. In fact, they are termed ‘rural developing motors’. The objective of this study is to highlight the roles and constraints of small scale industries in the rural development of Edo state. The data collected were obtained through field observations, oral interviews and questionnaire administration. The data received were analysed using statistical techniques. Findings revealed that small scale industries have seriously impacted in the area of employment and household income generation. It also shows that there is lack of management skills, poor record keeping and weak access to financing.

Abstract:
A power operated rotary banana slicer suitable for small scale processing was designed and developed based on engineering properties of banana varieties, namely Nendran and Dwarf Cavendish. This banana slicer mainly consists of feeders for round slicing, cutter, power transmission mechanism, base support and frame. The power operated rotary slicer with three blade cutter that was operating at 360 rpm speed was developed to overcome drawbacks of existing hand or power operated rotary slicers and to meet the demand of small scale processing industries. This slicer has slicing efficiency of about a 93–94% with effective capacity of about 100 kg/h for both varieties. The mean thickness of cut for both varieties was about 2.00 ± 0.194 mm, whereas mean roundness was of 0.84 and 0.70 for Nendran and Dwarf Cavendish varieties respectively.
