Abstract:
The objective of this study is to analyse the influence of a multinational corporation (MNC) on the productive network of the host territory and the proliferation of entrepreneurs. In particular, an attempt has been made to analyse the influence on the exporting activities of local SMEs – both suppliers and non-suppliers. The study has shown that strategic integrated suppliers show greater exporting tendencies than those that are not considered to be strategic suppliers for an MNC. Similarly, those companies whose founder and/or part of the executive team have worked previously in a multinational corporation show greater levels of export activity compared with those founded by local entrepreneurs.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to address the factors associated with a propensity for halal entrepreneurship among small and medium enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs. Design/methodology/approach Data were gathered from SMEs in Malaysia by conducting a survey with 209 respondents. Data were analyzed with the partial least squares technique. Findings Results indicated that halal entrepreneurship, intrinsic motivation, effort to seek out opportunity, perceived desirability, peer influence, perceived feasibility and perceived governmental support significantly affected halalpreneurial propensity among SME entrepreneurs. On the other hand, the effects of creativity and innovation, honesty and integrity, risk taking attitude, relative advantage and family supports on halalpreneurial propensity were not supported. Practical implications Through identification of the motivational factors to be recognized as a halapreneurs, policyholders in Malaysia would be able to successfully promote halal entrepreneurship in this country. In this regard, policymakers can adjust their tactics and strategies in a way which encourage halal entrepreneurship among SME entrepreneurs. Originality/value This study aimed to serve as an initial step in understanding the cognitive process of SME managers in embarking on halal business.

Abstract:
Business transfers are linked to both the beginning and the end of entrepreneurial processes. A person can become an entrepreneur by acquiring an existing business instead of starting one, and exit from entrepreneurship can occur through selling the business. Business transfers are gradually becoming more common among small businesses, largely due to entrepreneurs’ aging, and thus deserve attention from entrepreneurship scholars. In particular, the issue of why and how business transfer negotiations fail without achieving a transfer has received little research attention. The purpose of this paper is to explore this phenomenon from potential buyers’ and sellers’ perspectives. The findings are based on a sample of 156 responses. The results suggest that the problems occurring in unfinished business transfers are quite numerous and the gaps between the views of the two negotiating parties are wider than in cases where business transfer negotiations are concluded successfully, indicating that the initial negotiation positions can be crucial. This research proposes some key elements to consider when planning an exit by business transfer and highlight the importance of unfinished small business transfers as an essential element of a dynamic business transfer market; a substantial proportion of the potential buyers and sellers are satisfied with the outcome even though the transfer did not occur.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the conditions of entrepreneurship in transition and post-conflict societies, using Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H) as a case study. There are many features of this country which make it an interesting case such. It was once a part of Yugoslavia and had a socialist regime. Post-socialism, B&H turned to creating and maintaining a market-based economy, making it a transition country. Lastly, the transition process has been disturbed and delayed due to the war that began in 1992. Design/methodology/approach – The author chose a single case study research design to present a unique case and to give in-depth analysis. The author has used the method of data triangulation to increase reliability and credibility of the case study research. Findings – The case study's findings reveal that three types of conditions influence entrepreneurship in B&H: socio-political, economic and legal. The paper has several implications; more specifically, inter alia, it has helped understand complexity of transitional environments and the implications of the same on entrepreneurship development. Originality/value – The paper adds to the existing literature on factors affecting entrepreneurial activity within a post-conflict context by simplifying categorization into three broad categories. By doing so, the paper emphasizes particular areas obstructing the development of the enterprise sector in B&H.

Abstract:
This study was carried out to establish the possibility of enhancing SME sustainability in Kampala, Uganda through boosting key internal drivers of entity performance (records management, internal communication, family influences, and online presence). Using conclusive, cross-sectional, and case study research designs supported by the philosophical underpinnings of critical realism and positivism epistemology, data was collected from 278 SMEs using semi-structured questionnaires. Using SEM analysis, it was revealed that all the key drivers have a positive significant statistical effects of the sustainability of SMEs (records management [S.E = 0.3; p = 0.000], internal communication [S.E = 0.229; p = 0.017], family influences [S.E = 0.162; p = 0.041], and online presence [S.E = 0.321; p = 0.000]). It was therefore recommended that key internal success factors identified need to be considered in the management and operations of SMEs in Kampala. This is aimed at guaranteeing the sustainability of SMEs and the boosting of the private sector.

Abstract:
This research uses social exchange theory to explore direct and contingent relationships between a firm's degree of entrepreneurship and its resource contributions to the strategic network in which it operates. The empirical study is based on two strategic multi-partner SME networks in which all 54 firms participated. The results show a higher level of entrepreneurship to be associated with a higher degree of resource contributions to other firms in the strategic SME network, regardless of firm size. However, higher resource contributions to the strategic SME network entity were only supplied when the entrepreneurial firm was large. Suggestions for further research are developed in detail.

Abstract:
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are key to economic growth, and yet comparatively little research has examined the relationship between the level of societal trust and the motivations and opportunities of entrepreneurs starting new SMEs. The author tests the impact of trust on new firm formation using the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) survey data for 2001–2003. Trust is found to be significant for starting SMEs that pursue Schumpeterian opportunities. Trust is also significant for overall levels of entrepreneurship and for opportunity entrepreneurs in developing countries. These findings add nuance to previous literature suggesting that trust is significant for all forms of entrepreneurial activity.

Abstract:
A vital component for sustainable economic development is the entrepreneurship regardless of the social, geopolitical, and economic situations. However, it is an intimidating challenge to develop and maintain productive small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This article investigates the role of entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) and institutional environment in entrepreneurial orientation and the development of a successful entrepreneurship-based SME. It integrates the institutional climate, self-efficacy, and theory of planned behavior to address the abovementioned challenge in the context of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This study adopts an instrument to collect data from Saudi SME owners and employs SPSS Amos to analyze the proposed moderated mediation model. The outcomes of this study identify the contribution of ESE and institutional environment in the productiveness of an effective entrepreneurship-based SME.

Abstract:
Entrepreneurship and development of entrepreneurship have been the focus of all economies, but more so of emerging economies. However, there are many barriers including social and cultural aspects in entrepreneurship development. This has resulted in entrepreneurship's mono-dimensional look. Yet, in reality, a person who deals with the creation of the neo-ideas has social and cultural aspects like family characteristics, customs, community, the rate of participation in society that can aid or be a detriment in becoming successful entrepreneurs leading to sustainable entrepreneurship development. Hence, adopting a qualitative exploratory approach using semi-structured in-depth interviews of 30 SME owner-managers of Namibia, the aim of this study is to understand the role of social and cultural facets for sustainable entrepreneurship development. Findings show that social factors in entrepreneurship emerged and grabs the benefits of new concepts to make progress where social justice has raised barriers, and the cultural factors influence entrepreneurs and social behaviors of practice.

Abstract:
This study aims to verify of the relationship between Entrepreneurship Orientation and Market Orientation to Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Performance, using the Resource Based View (RBV) theory approach. The research object used was SME entrepreneurs in DKI Jakarta. This research uses a quantitative research design. The data used in this research consists of primary data and collected through Google Forms, which are distributed online. The amount of data collected was 190 samples. The collected data will be analyzed using SEM-PLS Version 3.3.2. Statistical analysis test the outer and inner models. The results obtained indicate that Entrepreneurship Orientation plays a role in SME Performance, and Market Orientation does not affect SME Performance. The implication of this research shows that the Resource Based View theory is right to explain the relationship between Entrepreneurial Orientation and SME Performance because SME performance will be better if it has Entrepreneurial Orientation.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the antecedents of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) internationalization for a small set of Mexican ICT entrepreneurial firms, connected with subsectoral positions in a smile-shaped curve. Such antecedents constitute exploratory patterns related to simplified internationalization characteristics in terms of market choice, founder background and aspatial affiliations, providing a complementary technique to identify elements that shape SME internationalization in Latin America. Design/methodology/approach A value-added “smiling” curve is sketched according to North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) industry classification, mapping a non-probabilistic purposive sample of Mexican SMEs. The csQCA has been applied to the sample based on secondary data. Mexico’s ICT export behavior is also analyzed. Findings Internationalized SMEs in the sample tend to group in patterns that approach higher value-added positions in the “smiling” curve, exemplifying a type of non-geographic clustering. Particular groups seem to precede market selection (North America vs Latin America). The founder’s background does not determine internationalization choices. The sample included counterexamples (new entrants, limited cases involving research and development activities), which when analyzed suggest relevant literature validations. Originality/value This research contextualizes sectoral SME internationalization from a Latin American perspective, identifying simple patterns around particular ICT subsectors. It focuses on a type of international entrepreneurship that becomes exceptional in developing regions: technology-oriented. csQCA is presented as a preliminary (exploratory) technique to draw alternative theoretical frameworks for SME internationalization, specifically, market selection and aspatial cluster behavior around value-added chains, leading to new theoretical perspectives in SME internationalization.

Abstract:
This study investigates the barriers to growth of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Kosova. It is based on a SME survey conducted by Riinvest Institute at the end of 2002 which identified critical business environment barriers perceived by entrepreneurs such as legal environment, administrative burden, external financing, tax burden and unfair competition. First, based on this SME survey, the econometric model is constructed in order to test empirically the validity of Gibrat's Law. Then, in order to identify and measure the impact of current reported business environment barriers on SME growth, the Gibrat's Law is augmented with other business environment variables. The econometric results suggest that firms' growth is negatively linked to firms' size and age, suggesting that Gibrat's Law does not hold for growing SMEs in Kosova. Also, the growth of the SMEs is reduced by the presence of the business environmental barriers such as tax burden, unfair competition and inadequate financing. Econometric results raise important issues and policy implications for the development of the SME sector in Kosova.

This article is the second of two dedicated to the nature and scope of university–industry interaction in Australia. The first article, published in the October 1999 issue of Industry and Higher Education, was concerned with overall strategies, policies and instruments facilitating innovation and technology-based entrepreneurship, especially through the development of science and technology parks (STPs). STPs continue to remain the focus of this article as it is based on the findings of the same study mission to Australia that informed the first article. However, specific attention is given here to the features of particular university or science park based entrepreneurial activities, especially as they serve to promote innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises located on the STPs. While the descriptive scope of the article is general in nature, the objective is to examine individual schemes and projects that have been developed to foster better university–industry interaction, and SME growth and development, especially entrepreneurial good practice.

Abstract:
Entrepreneurship is one of the driving forces behind the development of the national economy. The effect of entrepreneurship in the economic dimension is a business entity, most often a small or medium enterprise. The SME sector plays a significant role in every national economy. Traditionally, people perceived entrepreneurship as a factor measured by the earned profit. Increasing it was the primary goal of enterprises operating on the market. The operating conditions and competitiveness level have meant that enterprises beside economic goals also pursue social and environmental goals. Entrepreneurship is perceived as a determinant of social and ecological development, thus referred to as sustainable entrepreneurship. This article aims to identify and evaluate attitudes towards sustainable entrepreneurship among Polish enterprises. We compare the obtained results with their self-assessment and distinguish different approaches to business activity. The cluster analysis of survey results shows that the Polish SME sector can be divided into five separate groups characterized by a different approach and level of implementation of sustainable development. We also concluded that the Polish enterprises are more focused on social than environmental aspects.

Abstract:
The article provides a retrospective analysis of the development of entrepreneurship in Russia from the 9th century to 2020. 4 periods in the development of small and medium-sized businesses in Russia are highlighted and the characteristics of each of the periods are given. At the first stage, the development of entrepreneurship was facilitated by the formation of cities, which became a trade center. In the 9th century, the trade route "from the Varangians to the Greeks" was actively used. The study showed that the state has always had a strong influence on the development of entrepreneurship. The most difficult in the development of Russian entrepreneurship is the Soviet period, after which the revival of small and medium-sized enterprises began with the support of the state. Attention is paid to modern legislation governing the financial and economic activities of SMEs. A retrospective analysis of government programs to support SMEs from 1994 to 2020 was carried out. The program of state support, which has been in effect since 2016, "Strategy for the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030" is considered in more detail. In Russia, 95% of private enterprises are microbusiness. The SME Strategy 2030 proposes a classification of SMEs into 2 groups: mass SMEs and hightech ones. Attention is paid to target indicators of SME development for each of the groups until 2030. By 2030, the turnover of SMEs should increase by 240% compared to 2014, the share of SME exports in the total volume of Russian exports should increase to 12%, the number of high-performance jobs in small and mediumsized businesses should increase, etc.

Abstract:
This study presents an exploratory investigation of SME entrepreneurs in Vietnam to understand the relationship between their motivation for entrepreneurship, the Entrepreneurial Orientation and their firm's perceived performance. A survey of 306 Vietnamese entrepreneurs was conducted in face-to-face interviews. LISREL path analysis was used to test the hypotheses related to a conceptual model. The findings of this research show that SME owners in Vietnam are more motivated by challenge and achievement than the necessity for a career and economic security. The motivation of Vietnamese entrepreneurs is positively correlated to the Entrepreneurial Orientation. Vietnamese SME owners emphasize a short-term approach based on Net Profit rather than Business Growth. The findings indicate the development of an emerging entrepreneurial culture in Vietnam similar to that of other entrepreneurial countries.

Objective - Despite extensive research on Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) and innovation and performance, there are still limited resources on how these areas benefit Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). There are various financial aids and support services that are provided to SMEs. Despite this, SMEs still tend to perform quite low. This paper aims to identify the link between EO and SME performance using innovation as a mediator. Methodology/Technique – To achieve this objective, a quantitative approach is used. Questionnaires are collected from 285 SMEs in Peninsular Malaysia. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis is applied to test the hypotheses on the direct and indirect relationships between EO and SME performance through innovation. Finding - The findings of this study show that only two aspects of EO (innovativeness and proactiveness) have significant relationships with SME performance. Interestingly, all dimensions of EO have a direct impact on innovation. Further, innovation has a direct effect on SME performance and is a significant mediator between EO and SME performance. Novelty - These findings indicate that EO is a strong predictor of Innovation and SME performance. The discussion provided in this paper strengthens the body of knowledge on Entrepreneurship and acts as a benchmark for future studies on EO, Innovation and SME Performance. Type of Paper: Empirical. Abstract:
The socio-economic space of small and medium-sized entrepreneurship plays a significant role in its development. It is the awareness and understanding of this space as a systemrelated aggregate dynamic space of the state, entrepreneurial ecosystems and society based on building and transforming the relations of these subjects in the business economy and culture to modify the design of state regulation of SME at the stage of the digital economy formation, since it is the transformation itself entrepreneurial ecosystems and societies is a signal for activation of «bottom-up» policy. At the same time, the «top-down» policy implemented by the government in relation to the transformation of the architecture of the socio-economic space of SME should meet the requirements of effective development of the state. The balance of these two policies and can form an effective SME. That’s why conceptual approaches to the transformation of SME socio-economic space should be based on the construction of a clear algorithm for the formation of state policy in relation to small and medium-sized entrepreneurship, taking intoaccount the views of stakeholders and the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and society.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to assess the role of small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) as a catalyst to all things good in great economies; however, sadly, Nigeria has been unable to unlock SME development and the many benefits. The paper’s examination revolves around SMEs and entrepreneurial development, employment generation, government policies and financial aid and its availability. With the intention of establishing the relevance of government role in creating vibrant economies via thriving SMEs and its ripple effect on employment generation. Design/methodology/approach The study adopts a survey design, using a questionnaire for data gathering and percentile, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM) for data analysis. Findings The study established a significant direct relationship between entrepreneurship development and infrastructure development and employment generation. Also, there was a significant direct relationship between government policies and infrastructure development. However, surprisingly, there was an insignificant relationship between government policy and financial aid and accessibility. Practical implications The government’s role in SMEs’ survival and entrepreneurship development is invaluable. The government must live up to their bidding and create an enabling environment to promote SME and entrepreneurship growth. Only this will transform the economy and minimize unemployment to its barest minimum. Originality/value The study’s research model is an interesting contribution to the body of work in SME and entrepreneurship development. The study is also an original attempt at having a good representation of the South-Western part of Nigeria, as research in high impact journals is usually domiciled in one state.

Abstract:
This research accords with a detailed overview of management in general regarding SME growth development in Kosovo. So, it deals with the main factors such as the main components of management and its impact on the success and development, the techniques, and the approaches to assess the SME economic system and their development. There is no unique model which explains the managing or manager's experience and firm growth in the complexion of management theories. We have also pointed out the life cycle phases of firms that are not constructed on economic theory but have received considerable attention from managerial theories of enterprises. So, chronologically was analyzed SME development in general, given that Kosovo has a liberal trade regime characterized by simplicity and neutrality of business or SME registration. In our data analysis, we applied Cronbach's alpha for reliability analysis and linear regression. The findings of the paper show that two main topics are management experience and the growth of the sector where they operate has a significant impact. The revision opens a challenge besides wide-ranging debate taking place entrepreneurship and supervision skills in Kosovo. However, this examination has to do with evidence in Kosovo and cannot be generalized to all countries. This investigation is one of the rare researches in this field in Kosovo, which deals with the topic of SME development. This treatment approach should be used by applying dynamic approaches as well as other factors.

Abstract:
Development of small and medium enterprises (SME) represents primary goal of every modern economy. It is complex challenge which includes great number of directly concerned parties in every sector of the state and economy. SME stimulate private ownership and entrepreneurship. Their characteristic is that they are flexible and can easily adjust to changes in supply and demand on the market. At the same time they open possibilities for increase of employment, promote diversification of economical activities, support sustainable growth and give significant contribution to export, trade and increase the competitiveness of the entire economy. Importance of SME for economy is undisputable. All research show that globally, more than 90% of all business activities are realized by SME. SMEs employ two thirds of total labor of European Union. Approaching to European Union presumes harmonization of the systematic environment and improvement of the climate of entrepreneurship, private initiative, development of SME. This determination has strongpoint in current world processes that prefer the development of SME, utilizing their profit efficiency and established advantages relating to the adaptability of small business to dynamic changes in economy. Problem of Human resources management is very sensitive issue in SMEs. Namely, in big companies there are entire teams of agencies or consultants are hired for selection and education of new employees, whereas in SMEs this work is done by owner or manager. Therefore, in this paper several facts were pointed out which need to be considered in selection of new employees, since every mistake in this activity can cause far-reaching consequences on functioning of SME.

Abstract:
This research tests a model including direct and indirect effects of CEO's personal traits (i.e., tolerance for ambiguity and self-efficacy) on entrepreneurial behavior for firms in a specific context, namely strategic SME networks. Findings indicate no direct relationship between personal traits and entrepreneurial behavior on the firm level but reports positive relationship between CEO's traits and levels of inter-firm networking with other strategic SME network participants. Inter-firm networking, in turn, is positively related to entrepreneurial behavior on the firm level. Our results thus indicate that personal traits of the CEO can be important to study in order to understand small firm behavior and performance. The absence of direct links may hide interesting indirect and mediating influences. Based on this, we argue that it is important for future research in the entrepreneurship domain to consider inclusion of context-specific action-based factors that may link CEO traits to entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
The article considers the conceptual foundations of the functioning of institutions for support and promotion of the development of small and medium businesses. The author defines the significance of such institutions, and the value of their product, that is, the services for small and medium entrepreneurship (SME), which allows a better understanding of the main functional and applied role and purpose of these entities. Given the lack of trust from the population of Ukraine for government agencies and organizations, the presence of a number of problems in the SME support system, and especially the inadequate legislative regulation of the status and definition the functions of the main performers of SME development policy, the article notes that this area needs a qualitative institutional change. The study uses the methods of analysis and synthesis, comparison, generalization, and induction and tests the methodology of Canvas Business Model strategic planning of the activities of SME support entities. Guided by the principle of functionalism, the author conventionally groups the SME support institutions are conditionally grouped into five main types: business support funds, business centers, business incubators, business innovation centers, and business associations. For each type of SME support institution, the main functional purpose and, accordingly, the main type of operational activity are specified. There are proposals that allow understanding the essence, the functional and applied role and the mission of individual elements of the SME support infrastructure. In practical terms, they can be used in state purpose-oriented programs to promote the development of small and medium businesses in order to qualitatively improve the final product for SME. The author develops a model of the activity for a typical SME promotion entity, which is applicable, can be adapted to specific conditions and is flexible over time. Strategic planning of the entity’s activities based on the methodology of Canvas Business Model allows defining both the value of the product (services for SME), as well as the general value of the entity’s activities, which is extremely important in the SME support system. It is emphasized that each institution of the SME promotion infrastructure performs an important social function. The key values recommended following for SME support institutions are trust, partnership, and righteousness.

Abstract:
Summary This article is an attempt to propose a CSR evaluation and CSR reporting model in small and medium-sized enterprises. Special attention was given to trends which reveal the need for CSR development in practice with particular emphasis on efficiency - understood in two aspects: first one related to social welfare and sustainable development and the second one as a competitive advantage. The new approach is based on a flexible tool for the evaluation and reporting of CSR, which also acts as a reference model for improvement of responsible entrepreneurship. An evaluation model, ESG risks catalog for manufacturing companies and a tool for monitoring and reporting of ESG risks were developed. Further work will include refinement of the method of evaluation model, including reporting tools and ESG risks catalogs for other sectors.
