Abstract:
The papers in this Special Issue of AjPP were submitted by keynote speakers who participated in the International Conference on Assimilate Transport and Partitioning (ICATP99) held at Newcastle Convention Centre, Newcastle, Australia during 1520 August, 1999. ICATP99 was co-convened by Tina Offler, The University of Newcastle and Michael Thorpe, HortResearch, New Zealand. It was the sixth in a series of International Conferences since 1974 and was attended by 220 delegates from 21 countries. ICATP99 opened with a pre-conference dinner at which an aboriginal elder and custodian of the Mimaga Wajaar (Mother Earth) culture, Uncle Bill Smith, warmly welcomed delegates to the Awabakal tribal lands of local indigenous ancestors with a message to freely share knowledge. This point was further developed in an afterdinner speech by Don Geiger (Dayton, USA), a founding member of this series. Delegates transformed these sentiments into effect throughout the scientific program, rendering ICATP99 a rewarding and valuable experience for all. The next conference will be convened in Germany during 2003.

Abstract:
Background: The outbreak of Covid-19 has led to a health emergency and economic crisis worldwide. Mortality in productive age further worsens the crisis, so it is important to understand reasons for death in productive age group. Objective: To identify predictors of mortality and to compare the intensity of rise in inflammatory markers of amongst young Covid-19 decedents in comparison with elder Covid-19 decedents. Method: Record based study of Covid-19 infected admitted patients was conducted in tertiary care hospital. Information of all (n=3131, 209 deceased and 2922 recovered patients) Covid-19 positive patient assessed . Their clinico epidemiological markers were compared between younger (18-45 years) decedents in comparision with elder decedents (>45 years). Mann–Whitney U-test and the Chi-square test for significance were used. Bivariate Multiple logistic regression was used to identify predictors in younger and elder decedents. Results: Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in Covid-19 infected patients was 2.4% and 9.7% amongst younger and elder group respectively. (OR 8.83 : 95% CI 5.9-13.2; p < 0.001). Biomarkers were raised and similar in both groups except Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) was significantly higher in elder decedent while LDH was significantly higher in younger decedents. Conclusions: Males had higher CFR than females after 45 years of age, which was due to co-morbidity. Reaching late to the health care facility and high LDH were predictors in younger decedent, while male gender, co morbidities and high NLR were more important predictors in elder group.

Abstract:
Changing emigration and co-residence patterns in the post-Soviet period have left many elderly Russians living alone or without caretakers in close proximity. In addition, Russia's transition from state socialism to neoliberal capitalism has encouraged private welfare groups, often funded and staffed by foreigners, to assume increased responsibility for providing social security to elderly people. Consequently, notions of compassion are undergoing transformation in Russia, and the types of people who provide care are also changing dramatically as caregivers are more likely to be strangers, and especially foreigners, rather than family members. This article examines social security arrangements among Russia's elderly, with particular emphasis on the emergence of transnational caregiving relationships, and how these caregiving arrangements differ from global care networks reported elsewhere.

Abstract:
Characterizing the types of elder abuse and identifying the characteristics of perpetrators are critically important. This study examined the types of elder abuse reported to the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) resource line. Calls were coded with regard to whether abuse was reported, types of abuse alleged, whether multiple abuse subtypes occurred, and who perpetrated the alleged abuse. Of the 1,939 calls, 818 (42.2%) alleged abuse, with financial abuse being the most commonly reported (449 calls, 54.9%). A subset of calls identified multiple abuse types (188, 23.0%) and multiple abusers (149, 18.2%). Physical abuse was most likely to co-occur with another abuse type (61/93 calls, 65.6%). Family members were the most commonly identified perpetrators (309 calls, 46.8%). This study reports the characteristics of elder abuse from a unique source of frontline data, the NCEA resource line. Findings point to the importance of supportive resources for elder abuse victims and loved ones.

This type of research is qualitative research. Data was collected by observation, interview, and exploratory documentation search for past documents and do track changes of Banua Sulu' shape. Variables of research consist of zone layout, spatial layout, facade, structure/material of structures, and ornaments. The data analysis technique used was descriptive qualitative analysis, which analyzed every variable descriptive and interpret the meaning of any changes that occurred, four-flow of activities, namely the selection of data, presentation of data, analysis, and conclusion. The results showed that there has been a significant change in shape, especially in terms of the use of structural materials. It is used when they did renovation and the most changing physical form elements was the roof (Botting langi) mainly coppo' or overwrite timpa’ laja', which was originally duplex, has turned into a three-tiered, roof material was also changed from the roof of sago palm leaves into tin roof. In the main shape of the house (Ale bola), main floor and walls were almost entirely replaced, resulting in a loss of identity in the form of wall ornaments, the number of poles also increased from 36 to 43 pieces, and the additional rooms caused by the need for space to accommodate the occupants, who has transformed into a modern society. Abstract:
Basalt outcrops in Curlew Valley consist of vii several flow remnants and eruptive centers situated along the valley margins. Basalt is also found in association with salic rocks that erupted in the central portion of The basalts are of probable Pliocene age and the valley. were erupted during a period of active extensional tectonics. Since their emplacement, and downfaulted. the basalts have been extensively eroded The present morphology reflects the erosional and depositional processes of prehistoric Lake Bonneville. Twelve samples were analyzed chemically for major oxides, trace elements, and rare-earth elements. The basalts form a hypersthene normative series ranging from olivine tholeiite to tholeiite. Based on chemical data, the basalts form three distinct groups. Comparison of the major oxides shows two of the groups forming a differentiation sequence separate from the third group. Trace element and rare-earth element data indicate that the three chemical groups are related to a common source but that two batches of magma probably emanated from this source. Pyrolite, spinel lherzolite, and garnet lherzolite were evaluated as hypothetical mantle materials from which a parent magma might be derived through partial melting. Based on rare-earth element profiles, garnet lherzolite appears to be the most likely source material for deriving the basalts. The trace element and rare-earth element data do not show any anomalies that would suggest contamination from crustal material. Comparison of chemical data shows that the Curlew Valley basalts are genetically similar to basalts from the Kelton and Rozel Point-Black Mountain areas, southwest and southeast of the study area, respectively. The Curlew Valley basalts are chemically similar to olivine tholeiites from the Snake River Plain and Blackfoot Reservoir areas in Idaho, but they do not show much similarity to basalts near Snowville, Utah, northeast of the study area. The Curlew Valley basalts are generally more iron rich and less alkalic than other basaltic rocks from the eastern Basin and Range Province.

Voit, R. L. "Petrology and Mineralogy of Tertiary(?) Volcanic Rocks West and Southwest of Kelton (Box Elder Co.), Utah." DigitalCommons@USU, 1985. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/6676.

Full text
Abstract:
The Kelton, Utah, area has numerous, isolated basaltic outcrops of probable Tertiary age mostly in the form of cuestas with steep faces displaying columnar joints. One ash-flow tuff is located in the southeastern part of the study area. Basaltic fragments in the tuff indicate that pyroclastic activity was preceded by extrusion of basalt. Effects of Lake Bonneville on the basaltic outcrops include wavecut terraces, scarps, and other wave-built forms in low lying areas. Massive carbonate deposits formed at levels of former shorelines of Lake Bonneville. Tertiary and Quaternary deposits cover the low- lying areas between basaltic flows, and consist of materials primarily derived from the Raft River Mountains to the northwest. The study area lies in a transitional zone between the Great Basin and the Snake River Plain to the north where the crustal thickness increases from 25 to 30 km. The basaltic lavas range from aphanitic to hypocrystalline with su bophitic, intergranular, and pilotaxitic textures. Glass shards, axiolites, and pumice fragments are present in the ash-flow tuffs. Petrographic, mineralogic, and chemical studies were completed on selected samples of both basaltic and pyroclastic rocks to determine genetic relationships. Tholeiitic basalt, BV81-24, is distinguished from other basalts in the area by the presence of three pyroxenes in the groundmass and distinctive chemistry: high Si02, Al203, and Mg0; and low Ti02 and total iron. The remaining basaltic rocks may be related to a common parent, BV81-11, by a process of crystal fractionation. The parental magma, in turn, may be derived by partial melting of a hypothetical mantle material, such as pyrolite or garnet peridotite. The intrusion of basaltic magma into the crust is thought to cause partial melting of crustal material, generating magma of rhyolitic composition. Violent extrusion of rhyolitic magma has produced ash-flow tuffs, represented by BV81-17 and BV81-18. Thus these basalts and ashflow tuffs are considered to be members of a bimodal suite as is common in the Basin and Range Province.

Johnson, Matthew. "When Ye Are Assembled Together: Congregational Patterns and Worship Practices of the Early Latter-day Saints 1829-1846." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2013. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/3627.

Full text
Abstract:
The worship experience in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is inextricably linked to the ward or branch. This thesis examines the development of the Latter-day Saint congregation at the church centers from 1829 to 1846: Palmyra and Fayette, New York; Harmony, Pennsylvania; Kirtland, Ohio; Independence, Liberty and Far West in Missouri; and Nauvoo, Illinois. This work not only documents the creation and development of congregations, but also gives attention to the other important elements developed during the early years that are still associated with modern Latter-day Saint wards: meeting and worship patterns, physical locations where meetings took place, and leadership of local branches and wards. More on parameters and purpose is spelled out in Chapter 1.Each of the next three chapters deals with a time period and place, tracking all four of the elements of emphasis through an era. Chapter 2 briefly discusses meetings and groups before the official organization of the Church, and then continues on to consider the developments made in the three areas considered as Church centers: Fayette and Palmyra in New York and Harmony, Pennsylvania. The bulk of Chapter 2, however, deals with Kirtland, Ohio, which was headquarters for the Church for much of the 1830s.The three counties in Missouri that held the highest concentration of Saints-Jackson, Clay and Caldwell-are the area of study for Chapter 3. Eventually driven not only from all of these counties but also the state of Missouri, the Saints moved on to Illinois, the subject of Chapter 4. Quincy, Illinois was briefly considered the Church center until the purchase of the land that became Nauvoo. The final chapter synthesizes each of the four topics: congregational organization, meeting patterns, local leadership, and meeting places. Consequently, it is a brief overview of what advancements were made across all years and places studied in each area of focus.

Adam, Simon. "Elder Care in an Emergency Department: How does Disparity in Practice Come to be?" Thesis, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1807/26545.

Full text
Abstract:
Elderly patients in the Emergency Department (ED) receive a different level of care than younger patients. The ED disproportionately deploys resources to serve the needs of the younger patient population, a decision that appears to be mediated by the acuity of the patient’s condition as defined by the institution. This study will seek to examine the institutional work processes by which this disparity in care is created. By looking at the needs of the elderly as ED patients and based on what they identify as important to them, this ethnographic study will examine the work organization of the nurses, physicians, and administrators in the ED. The goal of the research is, through the examination of the organization of work and the texts that mediate it, to explain the ruling relations through which elderly patients are subjugated as patients in the ED.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this chapter we explore how collaborative meanings can be made as teachers and young children (six-year-olds) engage together in reading wordless picturebooks. The activity of talking about these visual texts was a central part of the DIALLS project as children joined together not only to make meaning from them, but also use them as stimuli for deeper philosophical thinking about themes around living together and social responsibility. The discussions gave children the opportunity to engage in ‘genuine dialogue’ (Buber in Between man and man, trans. R.G. Smith. Routledge, London, 1947), as they co-constructed meaning from the narratives and as they then related the themes within them to their own lives, values and identities.

Abstract:
This paper presents a method to balance aerodynamic loading by optimizing the combined efficiencies of co-axial compressors and turbines for engine preliminary design. Relationships between the aerodynamic and dimensional parameters for co-axial compressors and turbines were set up by nonlinear equations. And the boundary conditions of the equations are thermodynamic parameters and Smith Charts of compressors and turbines. The process of the method includes the initial value guess, reference point determination and aerodynamic optimization. The first step solves approximate stage numbers for co-axial compressors and turbines, and other initial values used in the second step. In the second step, an appropriate solution of the equations determines a reference point on the Smith Chart. The first step is required for a better convergence in the second step due to the nature of the Newton-Raphson solver. In the third step, the combined efficiencies of co-axial compressors and turbines are optimized under the specified constraints. An optimizing tool was developed based on the proposed method. An example of a core engine was analyzed by using this tool. The results showed the reliability and high fidelity of the method.
