Abstract:
We investigated the efficacy and safety of red (670 nm) subthreshold micropulse laser (SMPL) treatment for diabetic macular edema (DME) and compared the 1-year treatment outcomes of red and yellow (577 nm) SMPL for DME. A medical chart review was performed in 43 consecutive eyes of 35 patients who underwent red or yellow SMPL treatment for DME and were followed up for 12 months. There were 26 and 17 eyes in the yellow and red SMPL groups, respectively. The mean best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was maintained throughout the follow-up period of 12 months in the yellow and red SMPL groups (p =

Great progress has been made in estimating 3D human pose and shape from images and video by training neural networks to directly regress the parameters of parametric human models like SMPL. However, existing body models have simplified kinematic structures that do not correspond to the true joint locations and articulations in the human skeletal system, limiting their potential use in biomechanics. On the other hand, methods for estimating biomechanically accurate skeletal motion typically rely on complex motion capture systems and expensive optimization methods. What is needed is a parametric

High-order transverse-mode lasers have important potential application value in many fields. To address the current issue of the limited controllability of modes in high-order transverse-mode lasers, we have designed a self-matching photonic lantern (SMPL). The SMPL is formed by introducing a few-mode fiber into the input fiber array of the traditional photonic lantern. The parameters of the few-mode fiber match those of the tapered few-mode port of the SMPL; thus, it can transmit high-order modes in a closed loop. Gait recognition aims to identify a person based on his unique walking pattern. Compared with silhouettes and skeletons, skinned multi-person linear (SMPL) models can simultaneously provide human pose and shape information and are robust to viewpoint and clothing variances. To address this problem, we concentrate on SMPL representations and propose a novel SMPL-based method named GaitSG for gait recognition, which takes SMPL parameters in the grap

Abstract:
AbstractThe punching industry (PI) remains largely dependent on unsustainable resource use in its manufacturing process, consuming finite materials. Evolving market needs for increased environmental sustainability in the PI causes punching companies to reevaluate their existing manufacturing processes. Considering this trend, this research explores the prerequisites for transitioning to circular business models (CBMs), a subset of sustainable business models, by using smart sensor technology (SST) supporting a sustainable manufacturing process (SMP). Prior research has shown that using different sensors pertaining punching tools and machines is prevalent. Standard parts in the punching tool itself address these challenges of an imprecise set-up of the punching tool on the punching machine resulting in process improvements and efficiency enhancements. Yet, no similar data-driven punching tool concepts have been installed highlighting the novelty. To address this gap, this study examines how data can be gathered and successfully utilized to support SMP fostering CBMs in the PI based on data-driven punching tools. Mixed methods are applied in a practice oriented project, involving a Swiss-based manufacturer. The results demonstrate several key drivers supporting SMPs enabled by data-driven punching tools. Future research should involve a larger number of interviews and further field testing to increase maturing SST data-driven punching tools.

Abstract:
AbstractSymbolic Machine Learning Prover (SMLP) is a tool and a library for system exploration based on data samples obtained by simulating or executing the system on a number of input vectors. SMLP aims at exploring the system based on this data by taking a grey-box approach: SMLP uses symbolic reasoning for ML model exploration and optimization under verification and stability constraints, based on SMT, constraint, and neural network solvers. In addition, the model exploration is guided by probabilistic and statistical methods in a closed feedback loop with the system’s response. SMLP has been applied in industrial setting at Intel for analyzing and optimizing hardware designs at the analog level. SMLP is a general purpose tool and can be applied to any system that can be sampled and modeled by machine learning models.

Abstract:
AbstractSocial media platforms provide opportunities for users across the world to connect and communicate between them and engage into acts of social support and entertainment. Yet it can also bring negative consequences as it has been associated with poor mental health and life dissatisfaction. This underlines the importance of delivering social media literacy (SML) interventions that raise awareness of the dangers and threats that are hidden within. To this date, SML initiatives have shown their benefits towards the acquisition of SML skills through the forms of school interventions and mini-games. However, studies on promoting SML through social media platforms need to be also encouraged and innovative approaches to provide interactive scenarios with hands-on experiences need to be formulated. Hence, the project COURAGE introduces a new approach towards SML by proposing the integration of educational opportunities within a controlled social media platform. To provide students the opportunity to learn whilst they naturally explore social media we propose the integration of virtual learning companions. In this paper we report seven empirical approaches towards SML skills acquisition powered by virtual learning companions. The paper concludes with a discussion towards the benefits and limitations of using this type of SML interventions.

Abstract:
Structural stormwater management practices (SMPs) are designed and installed with the goal of reducing runoff and improving water quality through a variety of built (e.g., underground chamber and filter systems), nature-based and natural features (e.g., rain gardens, swales). In compliance with Section 402 of the US Clean Water Act (CWA), US Army Garrisons at West Point MS4 operators are required to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit or a New York State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES). These permits require development of stormwater management plans
