This practice-based project explores the photographic phenomenon of ‘moment beyond moment’, which refers to the combined representations of an existing image in an environment, together with the real-life situation at the moment the photograph is taken. Channeled spectropolarimetry is a novel method of measuring the spectral dependence of the polarization state of light. Amplitude modulation is employed to encode all four Stokes component spectra into a single optical power spectrum. The encoding is performed with a simple arrangement of two thick birefringent retarders and a linear analyzer. The research for this dissertation project began with the goal to construct a snapshot imaging spectropolarimeter forthe visible spectrum. Algorithms used in distributed systems for synchronization can often be hard to understand, and especially for beginners these concepts can be difficult to apprehend. Seeing an animation of these concepts could help to gain insight about how they work. The Snapshot algorithm (Chandy-Lamport) is one of these. But what is a good animation of an algorithm? What characteristics do an animation need to be considered as good? This thesis describes an analysis of those characteristics and a development of an animation software for the Snapshot algorithm using a game engine written in Erlang.

There are well-known anomalies permitted by snapshot isolation that can lead to violations of data consistency by interleaving transactions that would maintain consistency if run serially. Various metallurgical microstructures and their formation are studied in this thesis by using a laser beam to melt a variety of materials with different chemical compositions over a range of thermal cycles. The laser beam was used conventionally in a narrow gap multi-layer weld, used for welding large depths with filler wire additions, as well as a non-traditional simulated welding approach labelled here as the Snapshot method. <p>An investigation was initiated, targeting snapshot 3D image sensors, with the objective to match the speed and resolution of a scanning sheet-of-light system, without using a scanning motion.
